7-Way Molded Trailer Wire Connector, 6' Long - H20044

Average Customer Rating:  4.7 out of 5 stars   (351 Customer Reviews)

The parts arrived and ready for me to replace the plug and wiring on my horse trailer. It’s a big help to get items ready to install.

by:

though I'm disappointed with the shipping choice with USPS. etrailer was easy to deal with throughout locating this package. I will order products from your company in the future and choose a better shipping method. Thanks for all your help in this matter.

by:

Great service from Etrailer. PO said Saturday arrival - arrived Thursday! Wish it came with a color code instruction but I’ll replace one wire at a time, color for color. Should be easy enough.

by:

Nice part, I'm sure anyone would be happy with this harness!

by:

Good strong connector. Built well and installed easily.

by:

Only gave 4 stars because it was a bit confusing. I have a lot of auto wiring experience; from car stereos, amplifiers and all manner of accessories. All of the info on etrailer indicated that the color coding didn't match up. So I went into it disregarding the standard color coding, when in fact it was just as it should be.

by:

Good thick rubber and plug works perfec tly.

by:

Incredibly fast - 1 1/2 days.

by:

Good heavy duty. Perfect replacement.

by:

This is not the first pigtail that I have found that was wired incorrectly.

When you match all the colors up...like yellow to yellow ( left turn) in the box and brown to brown (running light)

The lights don't work correctly....colors have to be mismatched...in order for the ligh/ to preform correctly.
Yellow =left turn....Green = right turn.....Brown = running lights.....White = GND

the pigtail is a nice piece...but 2 of the wires are shaped for standard 7 pin round.in the molded end

This trailer connector does indeed use a different color code for its wires. It is specifically mentioned on the product page. The connector would wire up as follows- White wire is Ground, Red wire is Left TurnBrake lamp, Brown wire is Right TurnBrake lamp, Green is Taillights, Blue is Trailer Brakes, Black is 12-Volt power from battery and Yellow is an auxiliary circuit, frequently used for the reverse lamps.

Guts truck receptacle tightly old one didn’t. Easy to indtall

by:

I just received this and am looking forward to getting it installed and my trailer wired up. This looks like a quality product.

by:

AWESOME AS ALWAYS!!!!!

by:

Worked great

by:

Soft and flexible cable sheathing. works well for my application to replace an old corroded plug connector

Matthew

Still works well, even sitting in the weather it works as intended. It is not used very often but still exposed to the elements.

by:

The color coded wires did not match the standard for which went where. I first assumed it matched and installed accordingly. Only ground (white) and electric break control (blue) were correct. Brown, yellow, and green were all wrong. I believe black and red were also switched, although those seem to be less standardized. Then I checked it for continuity with multimeter and reconnected, crossing colors as necessary. Also, outside sheathing immediately separated from molded plug during first use. This appears to be very nice, heavy construction, but in reality it is a big disappointment.

There are two different accepted wire color code conventions for a 7-way trailer connector, which is why we provide a chart see above showing the wire color codes applicable for this trailer connector.

by:

Used this product to extend the trailer's factory cable due to the new tow vehicle's receptacle was farther from the camper tongue. After one year, it is still working well.
All wire colors were correct.

Bill G.

4/13/2020

Still working well!

by:

The color coding of the wiring in relation to their position was all incorrect to what is recognized as standard. Since the plug is molded there is no way to switch positions of the wires. I had to use a continuity tester to determine what was what. The trailer brake circuit was the only one that was correct

There is more than one accepted color coding for a 7-way trailer connector, which is why we list the color code on the product description that shows which function each wire color carries. Heres a link to our Trailer Wiring help article that you might find helpful.

FAST & EFFICIENT AS ALWAYS

by:

I felt the product was good, but the cord was not long enough. When I ordered it, the one I wanted had a longer cord, but was not available. I was in a bind so I took the shorter one. It works great, but it is not long enough for my needs. If I have to turn the trailer sharp the cord will pop out of the plug, due to the shortness of the cord. Good product.

Mike M.

2/8/2018

I sold the trailer. The cord was still not long enough.

by:

Quality product at a reasonable price. Worked great- used a "weather pack" connector for a nice sealed connection to the rest of the trailer wiring. Just be sure to carefully check the wire colors (as many noted in the reviews)- they are not standard!

Aaron N.

10/2/2017

After a year, product is still like new- weather exposure hasnt caused any issues at all!

by:

Very nice quality product. It's nice to have a molded plug, and this fits the bill nicely. Length is adequate as well. Couple this with one of the trailer junction boxes (another excellent product) and you'll have a clean and professional installation.

Georgem

11/1/2017

All good. Havent used the trailer much tho.

by:

I installed this plug on a trailer and it works fine.

by:

Products were all as described and good quality. The only problem was packaging. The insulation on the wires on one of the brake assemblies was cut requiring splicing. Not a big deal but did require additional time and effort since they were cut where going through back plate. Wish I had purchased two conductor brake wire. Would have made job easier. But that was my mistake.

Russell H.

4/15/2016

No problems, everything working as it should.

by:

Rewired my trailer using this harness about a year ago & haven't had any wiring issues since .

  • How To Wire In The Hopkins 7-Way Molded Trailer Wire Connector
I've attached a wiring diagram for the 7-Way Molded Trailer Wire Connector # H20044, however there is no guide available to tell us the wire color functions on the trailer so you'll have to test each wire in order to determine its function. If your current plug is still functioning then I recommend connecting to your vehicle and going through each function and testing the wires for power with a circuit tester # PTW2993 at the junction box of the trailer. Having replaced quite a few 7-pole...

  • Parts Needed to Install Electric Brakes On a Tandem Axle Trailer With 3,500 Torque Axles Salt Water
With your trailer being in an environment where it is exposed to both salt water and fresh water I would highly recommend going with a disc brake setup. There are much fewer components on the brakes to become damaged from the elements with disc brakes. You will need 4 of the DeeMaxx Disc Brake Assemblies # DE89YR with a Hydrastar Electric-Hydraulic Actuator w/ Line Kit # CAR-HBA16-2. You will most likely need a Adapter Module # HBA-CAM for your factory brake controller but be sure to check...

The Dexter Electric Trailer Brake Kit # 23-26-27 is the correct kit for your Dexter 3,500lb torsion axle studs. This includes both the left and right hand side brakes for one axle. It does not include a hub. I do recommend looking at the Dexter Nev-R-Adjust Electric Trailer Brake Kit # 23-468-469 instead as the brakes adjust while you drive saving you on having to adjust the breaks as they wear. This also maintains a more constant brake feel with less adjustment required on the vehicle...

  • Changing Trailer 4-Way Wiring to 7-Way Wiring for Extra Function and Compatible Connector to Truck
To switch your boat trailer from a 4-way to a 7-way connector, I recommend using the 7-Way Molded Trailer Wire Connector, 6' Long # H20044 along with heat shrink butt connectors # DW05744-5. You will ground the white wire to your trailer frame using # 44-5310A and then connect the running lights, right turn/stop, left turn/stop, and reverse light. To the reverse light (yellow wire on # H20044) you will connect # 16-1-1 wire sold by the foot to lead to your trailer reverse lights that...

You can run your trailer connector like part # H20044 to the junction box and use the terminals in the box to run the wiring to the trailer. For 7-way jacketed wire I recommend part # DW04914-1. This is sold by the foot. The junction box will also make it easier to install and use a breakaway kit like part # HM20001. This kit includes a charger and a weather-resistant...

We can definitely get you all the parts needed to add brakes to your trailer, but it is going to be an extensive list since there currently isn't anything on the axle. I did include an article regarding just this kind of situation, but lets get started. First things first, you will need something for brakes to mount onto. This will be done by having the Brake Mounting Flange # 4-34 welded onto the axle. This will need to be done by an experienced welded as the spacing and placement has...

If you are referring to the 12 volt pin that is located in the 1 o'clock position on the 7-way trailer connector then there should be 12 volt power feeding from the vehicle to the trailer on that pin.
