7-Way Molded Trailer Wire Connector, 6' Long - H20044

I just received this and am looking forward to getting it installed and my trailer wired up. This looks like a quality product.

by:

This is not the first pigtail that I have found that was wired incorrectly.

When you match all the colors up...like yellow to yellow ( left turn) in the box and brown to brown (running light)

The lights don't work correctly....colors have to be mismatched...in order for the ligh/ to preform correctly.
Yellow =left turn....Green = right turn.....Brown = running lights.....White = GND

the pigtail is a nice piece...but 2 of the wires are shaped for standard 7 pin round.in the molded end

This trailer connector does indeed use a different color code for its wires. It is specifically mentioned on the product page. The connector would wire up as follows- White wire is Ground, Red wire is Left TurnBrake lamp, Brown wire is Right TurnBrake lamp, Green is Taillights, Blue is Trailer Brakes, Black is 12-Volt power from battery and Yellow is an auxiliary circuit, frequently used for the reverse lamps.

Soft and flexible cable sheathing. works well for my application to replace an old corroded plug connector

Still works well, even sitting in the weather it works as intended. It is not used very often but still exposed to the elements.

FAST & EFFICIENT AS ALWAYS

by:

I installed this plug on a trailer and it works fine.

by:

The color coded wires did not match the standard for which went where. I first assumed it matched and installed accordingly. Only ground (white) and electric break control (blue) were correct. Brown, yellow, and green were all wrong. I believe black and red were also switched, although those seem to be less standardized. Then I checked it for continuity with multimeter and reconnected, crossing colors as necessary. Also, outside sheathing immediately separated from molded plug during first use. This appears to be very nice, heavy construction, but in reality it is a big disappointment.

There are two different accepted wire color code conventions for a 7-way trailer connector, which is why we provide a chart see above showing the wire color codes applicable for this trailer connector.

Worked out great till a couple months ago when someone didn’t pay attention and the plug pulled out and got dragged so I will be ordering another.

by:

Nice wire, appreciate the different wire gauges for the wire that will carry more power.

by:

Item was as described. Very fast deliv ery.

by:

Great product, helpful staff at entaile d.

by:

I ordered this trailer wirefor my rv.it was well made and easy to install.

by:

Product was delivered quickly and installed easily. Lights are on and working

by:

Products were all as described and good quality. The only problem was packaging. The insulation on the wires on one of the brake assemblies was cut requiring splicing. Not a big deal but did require additional time and effort since they were cut where going through back plate. Wish I had purchased two conductor brake wire. Would have made job easier. But that was my mistake.

No problems, everything working as it should.

by:

Used this product to extend the trailer's factory cable due to the new tow vehicle's receptacle was farther from the camper tongue. After one year, it is still working well.
All wire colors were correct.

Still working well!

by:

Quality product at a reasonable price. Worked great- used a "weather pack" connector for a nice sealed connection to the rest of the trailer wiring. Just be sure to carefully check the wire colors (as many noted in the reviews)- they are not standard!

Aaron N.

10/2/2017

After a year, product is still like new- weather exposure hasnt caused any issues at all!

by:

The color coding of the wiring in relation to their position was all incorrect to what is recognized as standard. Since the plug is molded there is no way to switch positions of the wires. I had to use a continuity tester to determine what was what. The trailer brake circuit was the only one that was correct

There is more than one accepted color coding for a 7-way trailer connector, which is why we list the color code on the product description that shows which function each wire color carries. Heres a link to our Trailer Wiring help article that you might find helpful.

by:

Very nice quality product. It's nice to have a molded plug, and this fits the bill nicely. Length is adequate as well. Couple this with one of the trailer junction boxes (another excellent product) and you'll have a clean and professional installation.

All good. Havent used the trailer much tho.

by:

Quality product. I’ve rewired several trailers using this product. I’d recommend it to anyone needing to build or rewire a trailer.

by:

I felt the product was good, but the cord was not long enough. When I ordered it, the one I wanted had a longer cord, but was not available. I was in a bind so I took the shorter one. It works great, but it is not long enough for my needs. If I have to turn the trailer sharp the cord will pop out of the plug, due to the shortness of the cord. Good product.

I sold the trailer. The cord was still not long enough.

My drum brakes locked up on me because it is a boat trailer and gets submerged in water. I hate drum brakes, due how many part are inside and can rust up. I am the 3rd owner of my 1998 boat trailer and it was hard to figure out what I needed to fix it. I contacted etrailer and they were super helpful, super informative and super easy to work with. I told them what I had, and what I wanted to do., and they put a package together for me and that was them. Everything was super east to install because it is all bolt on. I did have to do some cutting and grinding on my old tongue because the master was welded on. That was the only difficult part. My new setup is amazing and the disk brakes and new master make it feel like my boat is not even there. All in all, I am 110% satisfied and will definitely be a returning customer for any trailer needs. Thank you etrailer for making everything super easy.

by:

Love the product. It has worked well for my cattle trailer.

by:

The products were ordered on Sunday night late, delivered by Wednesday. Converting drum surge brakes to disc, electric over hydraulic on a boat trailer for 26ft Sea Ray boat. I had everything including Titan brake actuator, 4 kodiac rotor and caliper conversion kits with bearings, and new lines installed by Thursday evening. Installation was straight forward, everything fit perfectly. One of the calipers was malfunctioning (not releasing). I called customer service and I had a new one within two days, it's now installed and working great!! Great product! Awesome service!!

The 7 way worked great and was a perfect match for my 2018 Ram 3500. I had to rewire substandard wiring and remove all the guillotine connectors on my 2017 GD Reflection 337RLS brake system. How they let this off the assembly line is beyond me. Intermittent truck alarms (check trailer) and brakes all the way from Mexico to WA...not fun. GD used 14 and 16 gauge wire with scotchlock connectors from the pin-box to the magnets...even had scotchlock splices inside the underbelly where you cant easily get too. Anyway I have 10 gauge marine tinned copper from the pin-box to the axles and circle connectors in waterproof boxes at the axles and legitimate crimped butt connectors with heat shrink (the good marine kind). I also bonded a 4awg ground to the frame at the pin-box and at the axles. What a disgrace that GD let this out of the factory. Anyway, Ive been very very happy with all the folks at etrailer...they care. See you on the road...Jim & Christine.

  • Recommended 7-Way Trailer Wiring Extension for Travel Trailer to Reach Bumper Plug on 1994 Chevy C/K
It sounds like you are looking for a way to extend your trailer's 7-way plug so it can reach the plug at the bumper of your truck. To do this you will want Hopkins part # H20044. You will want to wire this 6 foot long connection to your travel trailer by function, I have included a chart of the usual trailer wiring and functions to this page for you to reference. I have linked the above mentioned product to this page for your viewing and purchasing convenience.

  • Can a Winch be Ran Off of the 7-Way Power Wire # H20044
In theory yes you could connect the power and ground wires from your winch to the 7-Way Molded Trailer Wire Connector # H20044 to draw power from the battery in your tow vehicle. The problem is that the distance from the battery to the winch may not provide enough power to run your winch depending on how big it is and how much of a load you have on it. The best thing is to have an additional battery to run the winch only.

  • Why is There 12 Volts on the Black Wire for my Trailer Connector
If you are referring to the 12 volt pin that is located in the 1 o'clock position on the 7-way trailer connector then there should be 12 volt power feeding from the vehicle to the trailer on that pin. This means that if you test the 12 volt wire (usually black) before it enters and exits the controller, there should be 12 volts on either side assuming the 12 volt wire on the trailer is ran to a battery for maintenance changing purposes. Attaching two 12 volt power wires together will not...

  • What Does Yellow Wire of 7-Way Molded Trailer Wire Connector H20044 Wire To
The yellow wire of the 7-way harness part # H20044 that you referenced goes to the center pin of the 7-way which is an aux circuit that is typically used for reverse lights if present on the trailer. Normally the red wire on a 7-way (RV standard colors) is for the left turn circuit so if you have a red wire I'd not think this would be the correct wire to connect the yellow if the 7-way to. Most likely you'd need to connect it to a yellow wire on your 7-way or to a purple wire. That said,...

  • Could Male 7-Way be Wired to Front of 2014 Honda CR-V for Charging Battery When Flat Towing
We have a 7-way with a 6 foot long harness part # H20044 that you could use to wire up like you mentioned. We don't have a more specific way to install a male 7-way on the front of a vehicle though so this would be your best option. The white and black wires of this have the heaviest gauge wire at 10 gauge so that would be the best to use for running to the battery.

  • How to Determine Wire Function for Replacing Trailer 5-Way with H20044 7-Way
What you will need to do is verify the colors of the wire on your trailer. In some cases trailer manufacturers will use the standard wire colors to wire everything up, but there's no guarantee that's the case. Especially if someone else messed with the wiring at some point and didn't have all of the colors available. Trace each of the wires to be sure. It sounds like your white is ground, your wires bundled with brown are running lights but the rest can go a few ways that we have seen....

  • Can a 7-Way Blade Connector Be Used For Only The Trailer Brake ConnectionsNo Lights?
Yes, you can use a 7-way for only the 2 circuits if that is all that is required. The 7-Pole Round Connector # H20044 has a 12 gauge blue wire that is the output for the brakes. The 10 gauge white wire is the ground wire for the 7-way connector. It is important that your trailer brakes are connected to these circuits to work properly in a 7-way female connector. The 2 wires coming from the trailer brakes are not labeled as positive and negative terminals so unless one of the wires is...

The most common trailer connector that carries the reverse light circuit is the 7-way. This is a very common connector style. Also the flat 5-way carries this signal as well.
