Installed a Hensley Hitch on my travel trailer and needed to extend the connector due to the setup. Superior quality. Wired directly to the junction box and junked the old pigtail.

by:

I liked the Product at first but 1 day short of a year later the cord outer jacket has separated from the plug itself rendering it completely exposed to the elements. Cord does not have a 1 yr warranty. I will not be reordering this cord. Hopkins is always my go to for trailer wiring components but no longer will be for 7 way pigtails. Cord has never been abused in any way and only gets light use.

by:

Just what I needed for my new truck to plug in cabover camper. Did not want to pay to have it done and was pretty easy to install myself. Saved a few bucks!

by:

Ordered this a year ago for a home made trailer I built. It has worked flawlessly with no problems. I will not hesitate to buy this product again. Thanks etrailer

by:

Great option for a trailer connector. Used it to upgrade my older slide in camper. Flexible yet sturdy.

by:

I love etrailer order stuff and good service fast del. thank you

by:

Only issue I had was one of length. I drop my plugs down the stem, and run them back along the gooseneck. This usually means that I use a 15-20' connector. I mis ordered this one, and "made due" the build quality is superior with molded and strain protected wiring in the connector

by:

The wire works as expected, bu BEWARE, the wire colors are not standard. etrailer should attach a notice with the shipment. The brown wire goes to green, the green wire to brown, the red to yellow, and the yellow to the backup light (purple).
I wish I'd realized that BEFORE I installed it and trimmed the wires inside my wiring block!!

Fortunately, because I don't have a backup light on the trailer, I could move all wires left by one post, so that the wire lengths still worked. Otherwise, it would have caused real problems.

Sam B~~Thanks for your comments. There are two standards in the industry for 7 Blade cables. The standard that this product is wired to is the RV standard. The second standard for the 7 Blade cables is newer than the first but is becoming more popular. We do manufacture 7 Blade cables to both of these wire color standards.

Wasn’t wired correctly and cut off the female end and used another connection to make it work properly

When wiring the Hopkins connector you will want to make sure that you are wiring for function and not solely basing it on color. Be sure to utilize the chart on the product description page for the functions and colors of the harness.

As always the products from etrailer.com arive quickly and are excellent products. I always go to etrailer first knowing I will get the best product and at the best price. The Hopkins 7-way trailer wire connector is top notch. The rubber is pliable and the fitting itself is of top quality. Thanks again for the great and timely service. ,Wayne

My 7 wire connector works as well today as the first day. Excellent quality as always from etrailer.com

Perfect for rewiring a 26 year old utility trailer

by:

the center prong sticks out a little not allowing it plug in all the way on one of my trucks

by:

Well built and works very well highly r ecommended

i did a complete rewire and added brakes to frt axle and after towing quite a few thousand miles to catch fish i would do it again

by:

Quality product. Nice heavy gauge wire for the power, ground, and electric brake circuits. The only complaint I have is the unique (non standard) color coding of the individual wires. This would be so much simpler if they used industry standard color coding on the conductors in the cable.

I purchased a female ( TRAILER SIDE) wiring harness and a wiring connector box for connecting the trailer body wiring and trailer plug. This combination works perfectly with my 8 TON goose neck trailer an one ton dual wheel truck. I use Hopkins wiring connectors and accessories on all my farm equipment. and have been very satisfied with them.

by:

Quality heavy duty cable and connector

by:

Not my first order from etrailer and definitely not my last. My only complaint would be in the packing of small or fragile items loosely in a box with heavier items. One of the trailer light mounts was broken when it got here. No other issues though.

I used this product to update/repair the rather shabby OEM wiring harness. It worked perfectly. I love etrailer!

Still working perfectly

by:

Just got it. Ordered several times from etrailer. Never once had any problems. Just exactly what I wanted.

by:

good turn around an arrival time packaged well definitely will use again

by:

I haven't found any other that get down like earlier, No trouble no pain yall come through period. Good looking on every purchase

by:

This was exactly the product we wanted and it arrived exactly when you said it would. Thank you very much. We will be using this on a fifth wheel homemade trailer.

It worked great. Thanks.

by:

All products that I have ordered have been excellent quality and shipment was prompt.

by:

Both the 11' trailer connector and the Junction box were exactly the items that my project needed. They were used to rewire a gooseneck horse trailer.

by:

the wire colors do not match brown was for left turn signal the only two wires that are right are the white and blue so if you purchase this product make sure you
check it first before you wire it in or you will cut it off and rewire it

There is more than one accepted wire color code convention for a 7-way trailer connector, which is why we list the wire color code in the product description above.

  • Does The Black Wire On My Hopkins 7-Way Power My Running Lights
The Hopkins 7-Way Molded Trailer Wire Connector - 11' Long, part # HM20048 is for a 12v circuit. This is the accessory circuit. Oftentimes it is used to charge a trailer's battery. The green wire on this connector is what powers the running lights. I have included a weblink to our section on wiring and a frequently asked questions link to 7-way connector wiring below.

  • What Does Black Wire In Hopkins 7-Way Molded Connector HM20048 Do?
The black wire on the Hopkins 7-Way Molded Trailer Wire Connector - 11' Long # HM20048 you were looking at is for the 12v power circuit that typically gets used to trickle charge an on-board battery, or for powering an electric trailer jack. If you do not have any accessories on your trailer that use the 12v power from the tow vehicle you can just leave the wire taped up or in the junction box un-used. I included a video of the # HM20048 for you to take a look at.

  • What Would Cause Constant Power To Electric Brakes
I would first recommend checking to see if the breakaway pin is still intact. If the pin has not been pulled, you will want to begin by checking the trailer connectors for dirt or corrosion on both the inside and outside. Once the breakaway pin and trailer connectors are checked, you will need to start tracing the wires back from the trailer connector while checking for breaks or frays. I would agree with your suspicious that you have a short somewhere on the 12v wire on the trailer's...

  • Does Black Wire on 7-Way Go To 12V Power
Typically the black wire on a trailer 7-Way like the Hopkins # HM20048 is for 12V power. It will run from the positive battery terminal on your tow vehicle back to your trailer battery or whatever you're needing to power (like interior lights). With that being said there are a few things I want to clarify before you start making connections; you'll need to charge your tow vehicle battery with an alternator - not the trailer battery (that seemed like what you're doing with how you worded...

  • Why Would 7-Way Unplug While Towing with a 2015 Chevy Silverado 1500
Are you sure you don't have a long enough trailer wiring harness? We haven't had any issues with 7-ways pulling out of the # HM40975 that is the same connector as what you have on your 2015 Chevy Silverado. That makes me think you just may have too short of a harness. Plus, we don't offer a 7-way that will fit the opening on your vehicle that opens up instead of down. For an 11 foot 7-way plug and lead you would want the part # HM20048.

Typically, you want between 16" and 24" of wire to extend past the trailer tongue but it really depends on your particular vehicle and the location of the trailer plug on your vehicle. You want enough wire so that there is not tension on sharp turns, but you don't want too much slack as this could lead to the wires dragging on the ground. What most people use to allow the 12 volt charge wire from being hot all the time and only when the key or the vehicle is on is an isolation solenoid part # PK5231201 on the charge wire. You basically run the center pin to a keyed power source and then run one side of the solenoid to the 7-way and the other to the wiring of the truck.
