Video Transcript for Complete Breakdown of the Hopkins Heavy-Duty, Coiled Trailer Connector Adapter

Today we're going to review part number HM47085. This is the Hopkins heavy duty flex coil 7-way to 6-way round trailer connector adapter. This is a heavy duty coil and cable adapter which is compatible with the 7-way RV blade trailer socket that's on your vehicle and it will adapt it to work with your 6-way round connector that's on your trailer. One thing I do want to mention that any time you have a 6-way round of the center pin, on a 6-way round can be wired one of two ways, either as 12 volt power or electric brake output. This adapter happens to be wired as the center pin as an electric brake output so you just want to be aware of that and it is market on each connector, it says center pin is for electric brake so it does let you know that. This is a heavy duty coiled cable, it has a nice weather proof jacketing. The 7-way has a nice finger pulls on it which makes it easy to install and remove.

On the 6-way round what's nice, has a dust cover to protect it when you're not using it and even has this little wire clip that when you do use it and plug in your 6-way you can push this down and that will help hold the connection together so it doesn't pull apart. They do use tin plated terminals on both of the connectors for corrosion resistance. This coiled cable when it's fully stretched goes to about 3 feet in length and again this is for a 7-way RV blade on your vehicle to a 6-way round connector. Again this adapter will work on trailers where that center pin is used for the electric brake signal. That should do it for the review of part number HM 47085, the Hopkins heavy duty flex coil 7-way to 6-way round trailer connector adapter. .

Received my order today. I emailed earlier in the week that I didn’t receive and their response was awesome!! They replied within 4 hours with a detailed response. Would definetely recommend them for any future purchases

by:

This is a very high quality item.

by:

mis-advertised as a 7 pin connector. actually is a 6 pin to 7 pin in that there is no center pin on the large connector.

The function of the center pin on the 7-Way connector is the Reverse Light Signal. A 6-Pin connector doesnt carry a Reverse Light Signal, so including the center pin on the 7-Way on this adapter would only be for show.

  • 7-Way Blade Style to 6-Way Round Trailer Connector Adapter
The magnetic tow lights # SPL30B-6 only have stop, tail, and turn signal functions so the 12 volt circuit and brake output circuit won't even be used. So basically it does not matter if the center pin on the adapter is brakes or power. Also, the 6-Way on the tow lights can be opened up so you can change around the wire configuration if needed. Extension # HM47083 is an excellent choice as is # HM47085. I have linked a video review of the latter.

  • Replacement Leaf Springs For A 2018 Coachmen Apex Nano Camper Trailer
The springs that you currently have are a bit odd and we would not offer a direct replacement. Though it is less economical I recommend switching over to the Timbren Axle-Less Suspension # ASR5200S01. This system has 2 independent units that will eliminate the need for a thru axle while also increasing the ground clearance. This system has a weight capacity of 5,200 pounds. The axle spindle needs an Inner Bearing # 25580 and an Outer Bearing # 14125A. The Dexter Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly...

If you are just needing to connect the 7-Way on your tow vehicle to the 6-Way on your trailer, I recommend using the Hopkins 7-Way to 6-Pole Adapter # HM47085 or # HM47083. These two adapters differ only in what the center pin is used for. If the center pin on your trailer side connector is for the electric brake signal, you will use # HM47085. If the center pin on the trailer connector is for 12-volt power, you will instead use # HM47083. One end of the adapter will plug into the 7-Way...

Instead you will need the Pollak Trailer Connector Adapter - 7-Blade Plug to 7-Pole Round Pin - Nylon # PK12727 which will plug into the 7-way connector you have installed on your 2018 Subaru Outback and then allow you to plug the 7-way round connector on your...

As long as the circuit is active on your RV and you have the correct circuit on the 6-way of your towed vehicle ran to the positive post of your vehicle battery this will work well for you.

  • Troubleshooting Trailer Brakes That Lock Up
If your trailer has electric drum brakes then a few things could cause them to lock up when they should not be applying at all. There could be a short somewhere in the wiring that is causing 12V power to reach the brake magnets. Bad corrosion inside a connector could cause two circuits to become bridged together. You could also have an issue with your breakaway system that is sending power to the brakes, such as a bad breakaway switch. Another possible cause is use of a wiring adapter...
