The 5-way flat connector is found on most newer boat trailers that have hydraulic brakes. The fifth wire in this model ties into the reverse lights on your vehicle so that a signal can be sent to your hydraulic brake actuator to disengage whenever the tow vehicle is put into reverse. To use this function, your actuator must have an electric reverse lockout with solenoid.

The 5-way design will also work with small utility trailers that have electric brakes. For this type of application, the fifth wire will need to be wired to correspond with your in-cab, electric brake controller.

The product arrived in a timely manner and undamaged. I have not used this 5 pole adapter yet, but the 4 pole adapter I previously bought from etrailer years ago is still working great. I have no reason to doubt that this adapter will function equally well. I appreciate the good products and customer service from Etrailer.

by:

I needed the extra wire to run for multi-led lights mounted underneath the steps at the rear of my trailer, when in reverse trailering. This connector seems heavier-duty compared to many on the market and so far is still working well after a year or more. As with most products from etrailer, I haven't been let down yet.

Here's a real special GOTCHA moment I had recently; My trailer jack stand, which I had purchased from my well-known and popular local trailer company to replace my original had rusted to pieces. I needed a replacement quickly and trusted I'd get a decent product and price as had been the norm over many years. Anyway, I purchased the new jack and wheel and brought them home to install myself. Upon taking the jack out of the bag it came in, I noticed a sticker from etrailer, yea. Before installing I went online, saw that my jack was less than half the cost I'd just paid, and realized I should have purchased the jack when I had originally shopped online at the start of this replacement process.

I could have returned my over-priced items but decided I didn't have the time due to procrastination. I decided they could keep their extra profit on this purchase but I won't get fooled again and my local shop has lost my trust.

by:

I bought this to replace the 5 pin connector on my boat trailer after an electrical short melted the connector.

Connection is solid to the 7 to 5 pin adapter. Protective cover is nice to have as the boat trailer spends its time sitting outside.

Only complaint I had was one of the pigtails was a non-traditional color so visually it looks off when wired up to traditional trailer wiring. Can't recall which was off as I no longer own the trailer.

by:

this item was inexpensive and did the job for which it was ordered perfectly. It was used to connect to a 5 pin wire coming from my RV in place of the typical exposed bulky receptacle found on the front of many towed cars. This was installed under the hood of my car and could be flipped out to connect to the RV coiled pigtail. The fifth wire, which is typically used for back up was instead used to provide power to keep the battery charged when connected to the RV with the RV engine running. This has proven to be sturdy and after a year of use has continued to perform as virtually new. The small whole in the sides allows me to connect the two plugs and use a "wire paperclip" to assure they wont unplug due to an excessive tug when towing. buy again and recommend YES.

by:

etrailer.com was great. The plug arrived as expected and packaged well. It is well made and appears it will last for many years. The only thing is I wish the wires and the protective sleeve was longer. I would have liked to spliced it back where it entered the trailer but ended up using butt connectors with shrink wrap that show in the middle of my wiring. Had to use the old rubber tube protector half way and the new mesh protector on the plug the other half with butt connectors between two types of cover. I covered those with black tape, not very pretty but works well.

by:

Solid product, great service!
It was
a little confusing, du to my trailer had 7 wires and the current plug had 6 wires. I phoned a friend.. LOL

by:

Good quality for the price. Product photos are a perfect representation of what to expect. Connector is a single, solid molded plastic piece.

by:

I just got my order in on Monday the delivery was a fast turn around. I am in the the process of converting my boat trailer lights to all submersible LED lights. The five flat wires are clearly marked which will make splicing a snap. I am converting from a four flat plug to a five as I also am installing reverse LED back up lights on my trailer. The five flat to a seven round adapter allowed me to do that. The quality of the product on a scale of 1-10 in my opinion is a 10. The 7 round to five flat adapter is also a 10 in my opinion. Very happy customer thanks etrailer I will continue to do business with you again.

by:

Worked as intended. Stress relief off the plug is a plus as well as the dust cap. Used it to power an LED light bar from the trailer circuit. Light bar is temporarily mounted on the swim deck of my boat when towing.

by:

Being a new boat owner I was quickly overwhelmed by what I didn't know. Re-wiring, re-lighting my trailer was my first project. etrailer has a wide range of products, but most important to me, was their added product information and instructional information which helped me make the right selections to get this done. Add to that is their very competitive prices. etrailer will be my go to source for my future trailer needs.

by:

Hitch fit great. Installed it myself. Wiring was plug and play. Was a little difficult to get to the wires behind the panels. I do recommend this hitch.

by:

The trailer pigtail ordering process was quick and easy, delivery was fast and the product was very high quality. Good experience all the way through.

Working out well! Harness carries all the electricity it needs to!

by:

Pretty straight forward product. Not sure how much I care about the 'ergonomic design', but the nylon sleeve and heat shrink saved me the trouble.
Good price, and fast shipping.
You can't go wrong with etrailer. I have bought many items from them, had an issue with one, and their customer service was excellent. They replaced it immediately. This is the first place I go to for trailer parts, and they have some other cool products they sell as well.

by:

All the products I purchase from etrailer (most recently trailer bearing grease and five pin trailer plugs) are always high quality and do the job they are designed to do. The prices are reasonable also.

by:

Great product for a fair price...looking for a 50mm hitch ball but was not a stock item so etrailer ordered it from the manufacturing co. Ashley is great to work with...if she doesn't have an answer for a question she will find someone who does. Highly reccomend this vender.

by:

I re-wired my boat trailer and up-dated my lights with these things.. great products worked better than I thought !

by:

Good quality! Easy to install! Ordering and shipping was easy and very quick!

by:

Great quality product! Used this on my disc brake upgrade to my boat trailer. Needed the 5th pin for the backup lockout on the coupler. Works like a charm!

by:

Exactly what I ordered and timely shipped. I love the tutorial videos really made trailer wiring easy to understand......I will definetly use etrailer again.

by:

Just what was needed to connect my new motorcycle trailer. Local trailer store didn't carry the one connector. Can always count on etrailer to have what I need.

by:

Great quality, good materials, good wire gauge, covers built in. Just all around nice.

Thumbs up!

by:

These are the best! I can not tell you how many connections I have replaced over the years until I got these. They are strong and the wires are protected so they do not break at the connection point. The wrapping is so much better than tape or other forms of protection. I have changed all my connections on both vehicle and trailer with these units. I am very happy with the product.

by:

Both the wiring harness and the customer service was excellent! Can't get any better ??

We have a coiled 7-way to 5-way like with the part # C57271 for a 60 inch long setup. We don't have a 5-way to 5-way though so you'd have to cut off the 7-way and wire in a new 5-way like with the # HM47910.

I am not aware of any Titan Surge Brake Actuators having an available manual lockout for them. It is possible to convert some of the Titan Zinc-Plated Brake Actuator # T2477600 to an electric lockout. Actually, you don't have to change anything. The 4-way connectors on your trailers fits into the 5-way on the vehicle except you'll have an extra pin not being used. Since it's the trailers that are missing a pin that means you don't need that function, which is likely a reverse light circuit. Since you won't be using the blue brake output wire or the black 12V power wire you can simply tape them off. However, you will still need to attach the ground wire.
