Video Transcript for Hopkins Wiring - Trailer Connectors - HM48915 Review

Today were reviewing part number HM48915 from Hopkins. This is a vehicle wiring converter with a 4-pole end for your trailer. What this does is it converts the 3-wire system in your vehicle into a 2-wire system for your trailer. Heres your 4-pole end and it does come with a dust cap to protect it when its not being used. On the back of the converter is an explanation. Its embossed right into the plastic back.

Its an explanation of exactly which wire controls which function so you dont have any guessing. All you have to do is match up these wires with the wires in your vehicle. The wiring itself is 60 inches long. And there you have it for part number HM48915 from Hopkins, the vehicle wiring converter with a 4-pole end for your trailer. .

this is better than CURT converter

This device was no help in connecting my five wire trailer to my four wire goldwing. I ended up having to use a number of diodes in the trailer wiring to make everything work properly. My trailer had red LEDs that were used for Brake, Turn & stop and I had to get the brake and turn function to share the same lead on the light fixture.

The wiring converter worked exactly as designed and was simple to install.

Well this is the second one I bought go bad so I just added extra lights and changed trailer plug from 4 to 6 round plug. One failed after using and the other one never worked from the start. All that would work were tail lights.

Products came on time and exceeded my expectations. I've placed 3 orders with them over the last 6 weeks and have been thrilled. Highly recommend them. While free freight would be a nice adder I did find that they used the US Post Office for under 3 bucks on one of my orders whereas others would have charged around 15 bucks for UPS for the same items to be shipped. I really liked that!!!

I used the Hopkins 3 to 2 converter to make a 6-pin round to 4-flat connector for my Winnebago View motorhome. While there are 6-4 plugs available to do this, they do not work on the Winnebago View (no brake lights). This adaptor works great.

Still working great after a year on my 07 Winnebago View.

Etrailer has been a life saver for our business! We repair trailers and install truck accessories and have found etrailer to sell name brand parts at much cheaper prices. Melissa A is absolutely the BEST!!

Had problem with "toad" lights. Called etrailer and eventually talked with "Bill" a technicial. Together we decided the problem was probably the "converter" on the RV. Order new converter which was shipped that dat. Received and installed on Monday 11/30/2020 and sure enough PROBLEM SOLVED!

Products were exactly what I ordered. Described perfectly & shipped fast with tracking.

I have an older foreign car and tow constantly. This has worked very well. This little converter gets me from the odd multi prong euro plug to a standard trailer plug. Very easy.

Perfect solution: towing vehicle separate brake and turn signal lights, towed vehicle lights combined.

Always good parts and service at etrail er

The wire harness worked great. The help and support I received from etrailor was excellent.

Great product, this outlasted the 2 curt units I had on the same escape.

As expected, great product

Excellent product, would definitely purchase again

I think you guys are awesome especially when A real person answers the phone so I can get quick results in my purchase thank you very much I will order from you guys again thank you

Easy to install if you know how to splice new wires into the existing wiring on your vehicle and have connectors (not included) to do it.

Could have bought at a local auto store at a cheaper cost. Took a week to get to me. Buy service was good.

Product delivered as ordered and on time. Have yet to install it so I don't have an actual product rating to share.

Everything worked great!! Customer service was great!

The item i ordered was exactly was i needed. It arrived faster than i expected.

Exelent service
and speedy delivery

  • Can Hopkins Trailer Wiring Harness HM48915 be Used on a Honda Goldwing with Separate Brake Lights
You can use the Hopkins trailer wiring converter, # HM48915, to converter the 5-wire harness on the Goldwing to a 4-way used by your trailer. On the harness the red wire is for brake lights and would connect to the blue wire on your motorcycle wiring. All the other wires, green, yellow, brown, and white, will attach color for color to the motorcycle harness.

  • Will Hopkins Wiring Converter # HM48915 Work on 2000 Plymouth Neon Towing Trailer With LED Lights
The Hopkins Vehicle Wiring Converter, part # HM48915, is used for a vehicle that will have a 3-wire system, which means it would have separate stop and turn signals, to plug into a trailer with a 2-wire system, which has the stop and turn signal combined. Your 2000 Plymouth Neon will have a 2-wire system, so the # HM48915 converter is not needed. To get a 4-way on your Neon you can use the Draw-Tite Wiring Hardwire Kit, part # 18252. Using the included circuit tester these wires will tap...

  • Installation of 4-Pole Wiring Harness on 1998 Ford F-150
On the 1988 Ford F-150 the brake and turn signal lights are already converted, so a converter is not required. For your F-150 vehicle, instead of the Hopkins Vehicle Wiring Converter, part # HM48915 I would recommend the T-1 connector part # 118316. I will provide you a link below to the installation instructions for the T-1 connector as well as an installation video. The T-1 plugs inline into the connector that is usually located on the left side frame rail. The existing wiring harness...

  • No Right Turn Signal Using HM48915 Wired to A Motorcycle
First, It is a good idea to double check the ground from the Hopkins Converter part # HM48915. Make sure it is grounded to a clean bare metal surface. If your ground connection is good, check that you are getting power to the right turn wire from the motorcycle's before the converter. if you are not getting power from the wire at the motorcycle, check the wire for any damage or frayed wiring. If you find you are not getting power from the right turn wire on the motorcycle, then those...

  • Trailer Wiring Harness Recommendation for a 2011 Ford Escape
Technically you could use Hopkins trailer wiring harness # HM48915 on your 2011 Ford Escape. But since your 2011 Ford Escape uses a combined wiring system (brake lights and turn signals on the same bulbs) you would ground the red wire with the white wire. Brown is for running lights, yellow is left turn/brake lights, green is right turn/brake lights, and white is ground. Using this harness means you would have to splice into the vehicle wiring. For a much easier installation I recommend...

  • Recommended Trailer Wiring Harness/Tailllight Converter for 2007 Toyota FJ Cruiser
Your FJ cruiser uses a separate bulb for turn signals, instead of the less sophisticated wiring system used on most trailers where one circuit carries both the turn signal and brake lamp. In order for the trailer connector to work correctly, you'll need a taillight converter. The Hopkins # HM48915 you'd looked at would work, but there are easier to install (albeit more expensive) plug and play options like # 118405 which plug inline at the connection between the vehicle taillight harness...

  • Solution for Trailer Wiring of 2007 Toyota Corolla Where Left Turn Signal Stopped Working
If power is going into the converter box but none is coming out of it that would indicate that the convert is bad and need to be replaced. Since we don't have just the boxes by themselves available you'd want the new kit with part # 55542 which is the entire kit.

  • Do I Need a Trailer Taillight Converter for a 2003 Chevy S-10
The plug and play trailer wiring harness options we offer for a 2003 Chevrolet S-10 are all non-powered meaning they will pull power from the vehicle's taillights. This is perfectly fine for smaller trailers that don't use as many lights. I recommend the T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness part # 118359.

  • Adding a Trailer Wiring Harness to a 2000 Harley Davidson
We do have some wiring harnesses that you can use on your 2000 Harley Davidson but they are not T-connectors, they are all hardwire. A harness like # 119147KIT would work for you. The green wire taps into the right turn signal, yellow for left turn signal, red for brake lights, and brown for running lights. This unit will also need to be connected to the bike battery and what this does is actually power the trailer lights to help isolate the bike wiring from the trailer wiring for additional...

  • 4-Pole Wiring for my 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee
Yes, you can use the Hopkins Vehicle Wiring Converter with 4-Pole End, item number HM48915, to wire your Jeep for a 4-way trailer connection. Keep in mind that this unit will need to be hard wired into the vehicles taillight circuits and that it only supplies 2.1 amps per function so the trailer can only have lights at the rear and no extra lighting. You will need to use a circuit tester, item # 40376, if you need one, to find the correct wiring to splice the connector to. An easier option...

  • Trailer Wiring Kit # HM48915 Troubleshooting for Use a 2006 Dodge Ram 2500
It sounds like you have a short either in the way you are wiring up the Hopkins Vehicle Wiring Converter, part # HM48915, or your trailer has a wiring issue that shorts out the entire circuitry of the # HM48915 and causes all of the tail light functions of your trailer to not work. First thing I would check is that the way you wired in the # HM48915 to your tow vehicle. First thing I would do is wire the red wire from the # HM48915 to the wire that has voltage when the brake pedal is...

  • Troubleshooting Trailer Wiring and Short In Trailer Plug
In order to determine the specific problem you will need to purchase a circuit tester if you do not have one - the very handy Cordless Circuit Tester # PTW2979 would be my strong recommendation due to how easy it is to use - and test the connector on your vehicle after disconnecting it from your trailer. Check the wiring going into your harness from your tail lights to see if those wires are carrying the correct signals, if not then the issue is with the vehicle wiring. If the signals...

  • Converter Needed to Activate Separate Brake Light of Trailer Wiring that is Separate
Well the part # HM48915 that you referenced is not designed to provide a separate brake light out from the rest of the wiring so if the separate brake lights you mentioned are not activating it's because of that. What you would need is to install the part # RM-732 on the trailer side of your wiring and the red wire would be what you would need to run your separate brake light to.

If you want you can replace just the 4-Way end on the harness that you have with # HM48190. If you want to replace the whole harness I recommend going with a powered option such as # 119190KIT which will get the power for the trailer lights directly from the battery instead of drawing it through the tail light wiring.
