The plastic plugs don’t hold up very well in the bed of the truck to plug in the 5th wheel trailer in nothing can beat the metal ones

by:

like the flush mount and compact of socket, and preferred the metal case over plastic one.

by:

Going to rewire my pickup truck trailer circuit , this is last piece I needed. This is high quality plug for my r v . Thanks

by:

High quality that should last a long time! My only complaint was that the pin that orients the inner part was hard to get in place.

by:

Bought this after the cover on my plastic one broke in half so it would not hold the plug in. (It was -20° though). Solids well made piece, nothing here will break at -20°. Etrailer was the only place I could find one that is all metal. Placed the order and had it in hand in 3 days. Never let down by Etrailer.

After 1 year its holding up great. No signs of rust either, Minnesota loves salting the h*ll out of the roads in the winter. I did give the inside contacts a good coat of dielectric grease And they are looking god too. Great product.

by:

good product made of steel not plastic, made in tiawan ,better than china, would like one made in USA. maybe etrailer can find more parts made in USA i would be willing to pay more.its time to take back our country, the USA.

Thanks for the feedback, happy to hear you are pleased with your vehicle connection. If you need the trailer plug, that is available as Part # PK12702. It is linked above as a related part.

by:

Product is much better than the plastic version. The receptacle has a very strong spring on the lid and a hook to lock the trailer plug into it.
The plug is galvanized and not stainless how ever, so it will corrode and rust in the Wisconsin rust belt eventually. After 1 year how ever it is fine.
I bought the metal version for out custom work trucks that I build for our company. The protective lids on the plastic ones were getting broken. The metal plug is more durable and has solved that issue.

by:

Very heavy duty connector, metal body, brass terminals, metal locking pin. We use them for construction work all day long. They will take the abuse the workers put them through.

by:

I am very grateful to etrailer for always providing excellent service. Orders are received in a timely and accurate fashion. The quality of their products is superb. All items ordered function as described with no malfunctions. The trailer and vehicle wiring connectors I have ordered were a great replacement for old existing equipment that was constantly failing.
Very professional company. Very high quality products. I look forward to continued business with them.

by:

Easy to install and works great. Can always rely on etrailer for great parts, fast shipping, and the best price around.

Everything seems to be working well.

by:

Still very happy with this unit I sold that truck But remove the trailer plug from It & reinstalled it on my replacement truck & still use it,
this was worth the effort.

by:

Heavy duty metal not plastic

by:

As advertised and great customer service. Highly recommended. A++++

by:

After being unhappy with plastic connectors I picked one of these up and it seems to fix all my problems with covers breaking off.

by:

Good quality product. MUCH BETTER THAN THE BLACK PLASTIC VERSION of this item.
I mounted this under the back bumper of my SUV so that it is inconspicuous from view.

by:

JENA D i've used these plug ins for my shear that attaches to my skid loader. Were in the iron and steel business, my wife irons and i steel. I've used these plug ins for about 19 years now and have had real good luck with them.YOU got the order right and they arrived on time who do i talk to about getting YOU a raise. Thanks again Donnie

by:

Good quality, excellent product.
The
only thing they missed IMHO is to put a rubber gasket to the cap.

by:

Everything arrived as expected and all fit perfectly!! This is not my first purchase from etrailer, and as before, shipping was timely and all components were as they advertised them to be. I will not hesitate to order again when I need something they offer.

by:

Used in mixed fleet applications. Reliable quality with easy installation. Metal construction seems to provide more service life.

by:

In use for 6 months now. So far so good!

by:

great product super durable can't go by the colors on the back of the connector though

by:

Works great, Very easy to install. The rubber plug in the back is the only difficult part to deal with. I Place a dab of silicone around it to make a better water proof fit.

by:

After having to replace numerous plastic sockets over the years I have finally found a robust alternative. Sturdy and well made. Not the cheap articles found in most places. Installed and used already they are not as bulky looking as the cheaper models so they don't protrude out but hug to the bumper. The salesman was very helpful and professional. Answering questions I posed to him.
Will purchase from them again.

by:

Great product that is still in great shape despite riding underneath my off road vehicle on some seriously tough trails throughout the 4 Corners.

by:

This looks pretty good, again I haven't had a chance to install it yet, but I'm sure it'll work fine. Maybe I'll report back once I have it installed and working.

Worked perfectly! The one on our 23 year old rig was looking a bit worn so it made sense to replace it as this was our first attempt at towing. Again, good quality and so far its still working!

  • Troubleshooting Trailer Running and Brake Lights Not Working After Installing New Running Lights
Brake lights and running lights are not powered via the same wire. Since you're having multiple circuits have issues I'd double check that your hooked up the main ground on the frame, and that no grounds were removed. If grounds check out you'll have a wire coming from each running light that gets attached to the running light circuit on your trailer connector. Some lights ground through the mounting hardware so if your lights don't have a ground wire make sure you attached them to clean...

  • No Power To Left Stop/Turn Signal Pin On Trailer Connector
If the left hand stop/turn signal pin on your trailer connector does not have power then this will be caused by either a blown fuse, faulty converter box, and or wire short. I am not sure which side you are referring to (trailer or vehicle) but the easiest place to start will be the vehicle side and then work your way to the trailer. The fuse locations for the trailer wiring (if factory) will be listed in your owner's manual or on the underside of the fuse box lid.

  • Are the Pins of a 7-Way Trailer Socket Supposed to be Bent
If the pins of your current 7-way are bent down and do not look like the pins in the 7-way picture that I attached you would need to either bend them back so that they make contact again or replace the entire socket with something like the part # PK12703 that you referenced. Your bent posts are the reason your trailer wiring is working properly.

  • Troubleshooting Left Side Trailer Running Lights Not Working
If just the left side trailer running lights aren't working then the issue is almost certainly on the trailer side, as the running light circuit isn't side-specific on the tow vehicle end (if one side is working on the trailer you know you're getting appropriate power from the tow vehicle). So you can start at the trailer side connector and just visually inspect it for any corrosion or debris that might be built up inside the pins, cleaning out if needed. It could be something as simple...

  • Troubleshooting the 12 Volt Power Circuit on the 7-Way of a 2008 Chevy Silverado 2500
The first thing I would check once you have the connector wired up and the circuit appears to go dead would be for voltage on the wire before the connector. You said that the circuit appears to go dead once the connector is attached testing the wire of the circuit before the connector will allow you to determine if the problem is in the connector or on the circuit. If there is voltage on the circuit before the connector but not at the 1:00 position of the 7-way then you know that the...

  • Troubleshooting Brake Controller that Stopped working with Brake Pedal on Chevy Silverado
The problem is the red wire of your brake controller. It isn't connected to a circuit that sees 12 volts of power when the brakes are applied. Since your truck is a 2009 Chevy Silverado this would mean that the problem is most likely a blown third brake light (CHMSL) fuse. An easy way to test this theory is to check to see if your third brake light is working. If it's not the fuse is the problem.

  • Troubleshooting Trailer Lights that Dont Work When Headlights are On
The problem you are having is a classic ground issue. If the ground wire to the trailer frame or the tail light grounds are not connected securely to clean, rust and paint free surfaces then when the headlights are turned on the extra amperage draw for the running lights will cause all sorts of lighting issues. I would start by removing the ground wire at the trailer coupler and cleaning up the connection point and re-securing it to the trailer frame. Next I would check the ground connection...

It sounds like you have the left turn/brake light circuit and the right turn/ brake light circuit wires touching each other so that when you put on either blinker it send current to both sides of your trailer wiring. I would recommend you inspect the wiring of your Pollak 7-Way # PK12703 and check to see if there is any exposed wires that are touching each other that could be causing the problem you are experiencing. • Troubleshooting Brake Controller in 2016 Chevy Silverado that Stopped Working
You have definitely narrowed the problem down to either the brake controller or the wiring on your 2016 Chevy Silverado. Have you tried using the manual override lever of the controller to see if that puts voltage on the output circuit? Typically when we see this issue it's third brake light fuse of the truck that is blown...especially on GM trucks. Try checking to see if the third brake light illuminates above the truck bed as that's the easiest way to tell if that's the problem. I attached...

The pin in the 1:00 position on your 7-way is fed by the auxiliary power circuit. The wire feeding that circuit runs to the engine compartment and terminates under the brake booster and master cylinder and will have a ring terminal on the end of it. The ring terminal will connect to the front power post on the fuse box under the hood. A 40 amp fuse will need to be installed in the location closest to the power post to activate the circuit. I have edited a photo for you showing the fuse...

  • Troubleshooting Running Lights Not Working on Trailer
You did not specify what vehicle you have but many will have a fuse specifically for those lights so if you take a look at your owner's manual it should specify which fuse you need to replace as well as its location. Additionally you may have an overload if your running lights are incandescent or there is a short that is causing the overdraw so you will want to check the maximum amps your harness can handle and make sure the lights aren't drawing more than that. • No Brake Lights and Turn Signal Power on the Trailer Wiring on a 2006 GMC Duramax
There would not be any additional fuses for the brake lights and turn signals for the trailer wiring on your 2006 GMC Sierra. There may be relays related to the tow package that could be bad if the fuses were blown. I would check your owners manual or your fuse boxes to look for any relays related to the tow package and replace them as well. I could not locate a copy of an owners manual for a 2006 GMC Sierra, so I do not have specific locations if they exist. Another possibility may be...

  • Cargo Lights on New Enclosed Trailer Blow Fuse
If the fuse only blows after you turn the lights on, then I'd be willing to bet that there is a short on one of the wires somewhere between the switch and the lights. Unfortunately the only way to check this is to trace all of the wires for the lights looking for any sections that are damaged, frayed, or pinched that could be touching a metal part of the trailer. When I see this on newer trailers, it is often times due to the wires rubbing against a sharp metal edge of the sub-frame that...

There can be a very small amount of power on the brake output circuit of a 7-Way (5:00 position) which would be the brake controller checking for a trailer, but there should not be 12 volts of power. That indicates a short of some kind or a problem with the brake controller. Since your brakes are locked up currently all you need to do is swap those two circuits and the wiring should be correct. What that means is swap the circuit in the 2:00 and center position. That will fix your problem. We see this issue pretty regularly and the solution is always just swapping the two circuits....

Does the controller stop sending output after 30 seconds or so?
