Video Transcript for What to Know About the RoadMaster 6-Wire Connectors

Today we're going to take a look at the Roadmaster 6 Wire Trailer and Vehicle End Connectors. Now, these parts will let you create your own cord or replace the damage ends on your Roadmaster 6 wire straight and flexi-coil electrical cords with these 6 pole male and female connectors. Now, one connector, this one right here, will wire to your tow vehicle, has the nice finger pull design to it that will help you to insert it into the socket or remove it from the connector. The other connector, right here, will wire to the vehicle that's being towed. It includes this nice spring-loaded cap that will cover the connector when you pull out the plug, to keep it protected from the elements. Also, on the back, you notice you can pop off this rubber boot and it gives you where your connection points are, so you just wire to these connection points, actually first, you've got to run your wire through here, bring it out, make your connections and then, just slide this up and that will cover it. On your other connector, what you'll want to do is loosen this screw right here, this little Phillips head screw, and this will pop out with your connection points.

Loosen this screw, run your wire through here, make your connection points. Push the connector back in. Put the screw in to attach it down and then tighten this screw and it will hold the wire cord in place so it doesn't pull on there. When you go to connect it then, you just open up your cap, take your connector, push it right in, oop, turn it the other way, and when you push it in, it will plug right in and then, if you notice, there's a little tab right here. That will hold that connector to keep it from being pulled out, and then to remove it, just lift up on the cap and you'll be able to pull, it's a tight connection, pull it right out, just like that. That should do it for the review on the Roadmaster 6 Wire Trailer and Vehicle End Connectors..

Installed a Blue Ox Base Plate kit on a 2015 Cadillac SRX. The base plate arrived promptly and was well packaged considering its weight. Watched the videos etrailer provides and used them as a step by step video guide. The videos were a big help. Installation is not too difficult if you're mechanically inclined. Had someone help with the installation but one person can perform the installation. I think the base plate is well engineered and everything fit as it should. Love the fact the installation is so well hidden. We have about 400 miles on the installation and have had no issues. Thanks to etrailer for a great price, great service, and great product support.

I didn't use the male end, it's in the tool box for later use. I used the female end on the front of my Jeep GC for the light hook up to my motorhome. I used mounting bracket #118137 and wiring harness RM-154 to complete the wiring part of the set up. Everything installed nicely, and a year later is still working great.

Still working great, has never caused a problem.

All of the products I have purchased through etrailer have been of great value and their prices are very competitive with other suppliers, most are usually lower.

I set up my Ford Taurus to pull behind my Motorhome. I purchased all of the parts needed, from the baseplate, wiring kits, and all other miscellaneous parts. Besides saving me a lot of money on their initial cost, they came with detailed instructions so I could install them myself.

by:

I have used this product for a full year now, and 7,000 miles, mounted on the front of my towed vehicle behind the motor home. It was easy to install (had to build my own mounting bracket) and has functioned reliably. Filled the boot cover with silicone to keep moisture out. Perfect fit for my application.

Purchased this Heavy Duty 6 Wire Trailer LIght/Brake Connector for a 20,000lb equipment trailer and it works perfect. Any products I have bought from etrailer have always been of good quality.

by:

Etrailer has what you need in stock and ships it out quickly. This is the kind of service I like when working on a project that needs completed quickly to get back on the road. The 6 pin connector and 6 conductor cable that I ordered are quality items. The cable is very flexible and not stiff like the cheap stuff. A great addition to the trailer fix.

by:

Delivery was quick, and the product was just what I needed to finish wiring up my trailer. Thank you.

by:

I was surprised to find these connectors available at such a reasonable price, and doubly surprised at the excellent quality and workmanship of the received product. I fully expected to need soldering iron and crimp tools to assemble the connectors and cables. The solid screw-down (and weather protected) connection points were a very pleasant surprise.

by:

As advertised, only thing that would have been helpful is a wire diagram for a standard hook up. There is letters next to each terminal but had to ask Google for a bit of help. Other than that it's a great buy and super easy to install. I changed from a four plug to six at the front of my jeep tow bar.

  • Can 7-Way Molded Trailer Wire Connector Connect to Roadmaster 6-Way # RM-910030-6
Yes, the terminals of the RoadMaster 6-Way connector and socket part # RM-910030-6 are compatible with 10 gauge wire like what comes with the # H20046. The center pin of the 6-way is the 12 volt accessory circuit and the ground is the circuit in the 2:00 position as you look into the opening of the connector.

  • How to Connect a 6-Way from RV to Flat Tow 2009 Jeep Wrangler
As you can see in the attached diagram, a 6-way should have 12V power and the other function is usually a brake controller output. I recommend checking your fuses to determine if one has blown and that is causing the 12V not to show power; your RV's owner's manual should have the fuse locations for you to take a look at. If you do need to run a wire you can do so from your RV's battery by using the right amount of 10 gauge wire # 10-1-1 with Heat Shrink Butt Connectors # DW05745-10 and...

  • Recommendations for Trailer End 6-Way Round Pin Connector
Pollak 6-Pole, Round Pin, Plastic Trailer Wiring Socket w/ Rubber Boot - Vehicle End Item # PK12720 is the vehicle side 6-Way round connector. For the trailer side you would need Hopkins Endurance 6-Way Trailer Connector - Trailer End - Ergonomic Design - w/ Holder # HM48440. Or you could get one with wiring # 50-61-104. And a third option is to get the vehicle AND trailer ends together using # RM-910030-6. I have linked videos on all 3 parts for you.

  • Installation of Blue Ox Bulb and Socket Tail Light Kit on 2001 Honda CR-V
The wiring can be ran through the vehicle interior if you wish, but doing so will triple or quadruple the install time and complexity. I do not have specific instructions regarding how to do this, but generally speaking you would need to use an existing opening in the firewall (or drill one if there is not an existing opening). The wire would run behind the side kick plate, and under the door thresholds to the rear cargo area. From there, it would run behind the side trim panel in the cargo...

  • Diode Kit and 6-way Plug Without Coiled Adapter For Towed Vehicle
Yes, if you do not need the 7-way to 6-way coiled adapter cord you can purchase Diode Kit and wiring part # RM-152 and trailer side 6-way plug part # RM-910030-6. The Diode kit part # RM-152 comes with 4 diodes and 30 feet of 4-wire. It also comes with the connectors, zip ties, 1 ring terminal and plastic loom to wire the vehicle for lights while flat towing. I have attached an installation video of the diode kit in a 2005 Chevrolet Avalanche. The 6-way plug part # RM-910030-6 is...

  • Recommended Wiring for Trolling Motor and Battery for Kayak
For your trolling motor and battery, the RoadMaster 6-Wire Connectors - Trailer and Vehicle Ends # RM-910030-6 isn't the best option. Instead I recommend using the Dutton-Lainson Electrical Quick Connect for TW4000 Electric Winches # DL24086 and the # 10-2-1 wire sold by the foot. The Ring Terminal - 12-10 Gauge Wire - 3/8" Ring ID # DW05705-1 are great for the battery end. Putting the connections in the battery box is wise and will help.

  • Can Roadmaster RM-910030-6 6-Pin Be Used to Replace 4-Pole Trailer Connector
You could certainly do that if you wish, but if durability is what you're primarily concerned with, I'd use the # PK11609 die-cast socket along with the # RM-910030-8 plug, versus the plastic 6 pin plug provided with the # RM-910030-6 plug you'd looked at. The metal socket would withstand abuse better than the plastic socket. One thing to keep in mind, if you wire the vehicle and trailer this way, you'll have an issue if you ever try to to that trailer with another vehicle. You might...
