Video Transcript for A Closer Look at the Wesbar 4-Way Flat Trailer Wiring Harness

Speaker 1: Today we're gonna be taking a look at the Wesbar 4-Pole Flat Trailer Wiring Harness with 20' lead, part number 002220.Here's our wiring harness. At the end of it, we are gonna have a 4-pole flat trailer connector. What's nice about this wiring harness is the fact that the left and right are split, and we have two separate signals for our tail lights, so we're not gonna have to worry about splicing them across. We're also gonna have our ground wire. We're gonna have all the wires in the places that we need. Before we start our installation, I'm going to take a ring terminal, and I'll put it on my ground wire. That way we know that we're gonna have enough room when we go to put it in place.

Just crimp it down to make sure it's secure.Every trailer is a little bit different. We're gonna try to make our wiring as neat and as tidy as possible, so we're gonna go through the side of the frame right here by the tongue and start pulling all of our excess wire through. We want to leave ourselves enough room so that we can plug our trailer in, so I'm gonna take my ground, I'm gonna feed that with the ring terminal through the frame coming out on the other side. We're gonna be attaching it right here on top of the tongue.I'm just gonna take a self-tapping screw and a 5/16 nut driver and drill right into the frame. This will be plenty of wire to plug into our vehicle when we go to tow our trailer.

We're gonna continue to feed our wires down to the frame, start routing them towards the back where we're gonna be plugging our lights in.In our installation, we're gonna be using some wire loom to protect our wires and some loom clamps to secure our wires to the frame. How much you need is really gonna depends on how big your trailer is, and I always suggest getting more than you think you need, because it's better to have extra than not to have enough. If you're wanting to pick up some loom clamps, you can use part number A0500, and that's gonna be for an individual piece. If you need some loom, for this 3/8 diameter loom, you can use part number 39035, and that's gonna be for 10'.Everybody's gonna route it a little bit different. Each trailer's gonna be slightly different as well.

But our yellow and brown wire is gonna be on the driver or left side for our turn and taillight signal, and the green and brown wire is gonna go towards the right side or the passenger side for our right and taillight signals. I'm gonna go ahead and route my wires, and I'll show you how I got them there.I just routed my wires through the frame. Had some existing holes so I could put my wires through. Again, I just put some wire loom around, put some tape around it to help protect it, securing it with clamps along the way. Once I got back towards my axle here, I put a lot of different clamps in, that way I don't have to worry about it falling down and resting on the axle itself.

Then I just followed it back until I came to the back section of my trailer, and there was an existing tube that's gonna help protect my wire so I can get them over to the other side.My left side wires went through the frame to come to the back side. My right side wires went through this tube and out the other side. They came out over here. Now we're gonna bet getting ready to mount up some lights and wire everything up.Here I have one of the lights I'm gonna be using. Yours may look different, but the theory is gonna be the same. You're gonna mount your light up, and you're gonna take your brown and green wires for your signals, and on your light you should have possibly a brown colored wire, which is gonna be your taillight signal, the green wire, which is gonna be your brake and right turn signal, and then the white wire's gonna go to your chassis for the ground. That's where we're gonna use all the wires from our wiring.I'm gonna take a couple of heat shrink butt connectors. I'm gonna put them on the end of our wires. On the other end of our butt connector, I'm just gonna find the corresponding wire, brown to brown, and crimp it into place. And finally, green to green. I just want to mention if you are using an open flame such as a torch or a lighter, you need to be extra careful not to char the connector or the wire itself. With this side done, we're gonna go and repeat the same process on the other side. The only difference is gonna be our green wire is gonna be a yellow wire. If you want to, you can take some electrical tape, some wire look, or whatever you may have to wrap around the wires to keep them nice and protected.I have my tester hooked up to my trailer to simulate a car hooked up to it so we can check the lights and all the functions. If I turn my taillights on, we can see that they're working properly. Over here on the left side, we can see that the brake or blinker is working properly as well. On the right side, we can see that the taillight is working as well, and also the blinker and brake light. Now with all of our wires ran and routed, we still have the option to put some protective coating or even just electrical tape on this end of the wire to protect it a little bit, but that'll finish up this portion of our wiring. And that'll finish up your look at the Wesbar 4-Pole Flat Trailer Wiring Harness with 20' lead, part number 002220.

Just what I needed for a boat trailer rewire. It would be nice if two more brown wires were added to take care of the yellow tongue lights/running lights that are partway along the trailer. I will splice in.

No issues. All is working fine.

I'm extremely satisfied with the wesbar 4way flat trailer wiring harness I purchased from etrailers.com. It was very easy to install with no problems. As long as you connect the wires correctly (example) white wire to white wire brown wire to brown wire you won't have any problems. If I ever need another one I'll know who to order it from etrailer.com.

1 year ago, I ordered a wiring harness for my trailer, It worked out perfect.
I would recommend "etrailer" to everyone.

by:

As always on time delivery and quality products!

I have purchased many products from e-trailer and have always found they worked like they said they would. The last order I received was a seven too four flat plug for a trailer lights. Anna the person I talked too helped me find just what I needed.

by:

The harness has everything I needed to replace the old, spliced up, wires everywhere harness to a more manageable, easy to protect harness. The length was good for wrapping around tie down areas so the harness would not sag below the trailer chassis. Using waterproof crimp connectors to the tail lights finished the rewire.

I ordered the wiring package for my 2001 Toyota Tundra truck. It had never been wired for a trailer. I was afraid to use my trailer at night for "no lights" so I decided to wire the truck so that my trailer would have lights at night. I have never done anything like this before! I watched a video on how to wire the truck and followed the easy instructions included with the wiring package which was included with the product. I also ordered the reciprocal plug for my trailer. I could not believe how easy it was install this product in the truck and the trailer. After I finished, it took about an hour, it worked great the first time. I was really impressed with this product from etrailer! Thank you etrailer. You saved me a lot of money from buying this same product from Toyota and the labor also for installing this product!

by:

Wanted to replace my broken plug with something close to the original that was on my trailer to be sure all my lights worked correctly without having to do a lot of extra work and modifications. Found the exact plug on- line through you guys and it was a matter of cutting it to the right length I wanted and splicing them together. Everything worked perfectly. Oh yeah. The order to delivery time was excellent. Part actually got here sooner than was told. Great product and great company to work with.

I was looking for a 4 pin flat harness with 5 wires to replace an corroding harness on my trailer. I asked a question on Sunday and got a reply back the same day with an answer. Placed my order and got a shipping confirmation on that Monday (Memorial Day holiday no less. Have received the harness and it's exactly what I need.

by:

This harness was perfect for my double jetski trailer. Perfect length and well made. Also a bit thicker guage than most.(not that it's needed for LED's) would purchase again if I ever need it but I think with how I waterproofed the connections I'll have years before I need to think about it.

I'm so glad I don't have to spend an arm and a leg to rewire and get new taillights for my old utility trailer. Etrailer has low cost, but good quality parts that will make the job quick and easy to get my trailer operational again. They even have instructional videos to help with making repairs if you need them. Thank you so much, etrailer!

The installed product is working at 100!The perfect solution to my problem indeed! I do know that if this happens in the future my go to is this. Sidenote- start the fitment on the hitch end and not the trailer lights end for the proper length. The plugged end could be a lil longer but works on must of my trucks.

by:

Haven't put this in yet. But it looks of good quality for a fair price.
Go Etrailer!

  • Availability of 20 ft Long 4-Way Harness as Well as 2-Way Connector
We do have a 20 foot long 4-way plug and lead with the Wesbar part # 002220. We do sell 2-pin connectors like with the HM47965 which his 12 inch inches long. Normally you cut the harness in half and wire it to either side of where needed. The amp rating of 4-way wiring is typically between 10 and 15 amps.

On these items and on the 16-gauge bonded 4-pole wire # 16-4B-1 you referenced in your question the usual pin/function assignments are the same. These are as shown in the linked photo and in the article on trailer wiring that is included for you. The one pin that is not like the others will be the GROUND pin which...

Hey Stan, so the Wesbar 4-way part # 002220 doesn't have an amperage rating but the circuits are all on 18 gauge wire that is 20 inches long so nothing too crazy. Most likely 14 amps.

  • Is a Longer Version of Wesbar 002402 Trailer Wiring Harness Available
Would a 20 foot harness work for you? If so, Wesbar offers a 20 foot version as part # 002220. This is not a wishbone style harness. You'll need to run the harness down one side to the taillight and then daisy chain over to the opposing taillight. A wishbone style is also available as part # W002230. A wishbone style harness splits the running lamp circuit into two legs so you and run the left turn/brake lamp circuit and one running lamp circuit down the driver's side and the right turn/brake...

A 3-way trailer connector is extremely rare and they really do not make any sort of adapter that will allow you to use this trailer connector with a 7-way connector. The only option that I have for you would be to replace the 3-way trailer connector with a 4-way trailer wiring harness and then use a 4 to 7-way trailer connector adapter. It is required by law in most states that your trailer has turn, brake, and running lights therefore if your current trailer's lights do not have these...

  • What Wiring Harness Do You Recommend for My Small Trailer?
I did some research on your 1999 Floe Pro 100 Plus, and judging by the size of the trailer, you need the Wesbar 4-Way Flat Trailer Wiring Harness - 20' Long # 002220 or the longer 4-Way Wishbone Trailer Wiring Harness with 42" Ground Wire - 40' Long # A40W42B. With the 4-way flat, you will get turn signals, running lights, and brake lights. If you are looking for something other than a 4-way flat harness for your trailer, please feel free to respond with your needs.

  • Recommended Wiring Harness for a Salt Water Boat Trailer
For a salt water boat trailer, I recommend using the 35 Ft 4-Way Trailer Wiring Harness item # A35W42B. This 42' harness is trimmable and has two tail light wires that split at the harness. This is beneficial because the separate wires can run down each side of the trailer to tail lights without needing a jumper wire. You're also going to want to use the Primary Wire Heat-Shrinkable Tubing item # DW05452 to keep out the water when you're connecting to your lights.

To complete the installation you will only need a Ring Terminal # DW05702-1 and Butt Connectors, part # DW05744-5 for 5 or part # DW05744-10 for 10. Just simply splice in the lights that you have into the wiring. If you don't already have lights then you can use the Trailer Light Kit #...

Sounds like your 4-way has two wires ran for each pin. This can be wired to a 4-way that has a single wire for each pin. You would just have to run the pair of wires for each circuit to the single wire of the new 4-way. The part # 002220 that you referenced could work but it would be a bit long at 20 feet. You would just need to cut down the length of the wires.

It sounds like you're looking for an adapter like the Curt Trailer Connector Adapter - 4-Way to 7-Way RV and 4-Way Flat # C57672. The Curt adapter should be mounted to your vehicle. This will have both the 4-way and 7-way connection. Since it sounds like you don't need the 12V power or brake output you can leave the additional connections disconnected.
