Easily load and unload cargo and equipment into and out of your pickup truck bed with this heavy-duty, hitch-mounted crane. Hydraulic ability eliminates the need for wiring and provides smooth, controlled operation.

Hitch-Mounted Design

MaxxTow Hydraulic Crane

This crane conveniently slides into your 2-inch trailer hitch receiver, leaving your truck bed open so that you can easily load all of your cargo. The T-style base ensures that the crane sits off to the side of your truck so that you get absolute clearance for moving items into and out of your truck bed.

MaxxTow Hydraulic Crane Base

It is recommended that you use the crane with either a Class III or Class IV hitch to ensure that you do not exceed your hitch's maximum tongue weight capacity. That being said, this crane is designed to take up as little tongue weight as possible. The majority of the weight of your load is supported not by the hitch itself, but by the two integrated legs of the crane. These support legs sit beneath the hydraulic ram to provide a strong, sturdy base. Easily adjust the legs to match the height of your trailer hitch, and they will provide an excellent foundation for your application.

Easy Operation

MaxxTow Hydraulic Crane Operation

To work the crane, simply insert the included handle into the slot near the hydraulic ram. To raise the boom, just pump the handle. Once your load is at the intended height, manually pivot the upright post to move the item into your truck bed. Then slowly turn the release valve counterclockwise to drop the hydraulic pressure, thus lowering your load.

Three Boom Positions

MaxxTow Hydraulic Crane Boom Positions

Three different boom positions are available, ensuring proper leverage for any given load. Choose the position farthest out on the crane arm for wide or unwieldy cargo to make maneuvering it into your truck bed a snap. For heavier items, move the fulcrum point closer to the body of the crane. This change in leverage provides an increase in mechanical advantage to make hoisting heavy loads easy.

Simple, Compact Storage

MaxxTow Hydraulic Crane Breakdown and Storage

Storing the crane is simple. The entire thing breaks down for compact storage. Remove the boom by first dropping it to its lowest position. Then fold the boom up and lift it off of the base assembly. Remove the base from your hitch receiver and use the quick pins to release the legs. Fold the legs up, and use the integrated storage strap to tie everything together.

All in all looks like it's going to be a great little crane for pulling the engines in and out of our shop trucks. We will have to fabricate new outriggers for the 2WD Ford Ranger but fits great our full-sized trucks. Would like to see just a slightly deeper bag for the bearing protection, but I have a sewing machine.

Comments
Works like a champ. Have it on the back of a 1998 Chevy 4x4, lifts, swings and holds any engine we have asked it to. Light enough for easy installation and removal, folds up enough to tuck above the wheel wells of the bed.

Recieved my hoist today, it came complete and ahead of schedule. Then installed in about a hour. Very simple. Haven't lifted anything yet I will send a update when I use witch wont be long this hoist is going to be excellent to have to save lots of heavy lifting. Definately recommend. The only problem is the bearing protection bag was tore from shipping, sent a picture.pictures might not upload I'll try again.

This is "Exactly" what i've been needing. I was getting tired of straining myself loading heavy items into the back of my pickup and this hoist does a GREAT job. As i get older i find ways to work smarter, not harder and this does that job. This crane is very easy to set up and take down. i have included pictures of my first lifting job, my 5000 watt generator and it "used to be" a huge pain loading and unloading. NOT any longer. the crane boom swings easily even under load. i am VERY pleased with this Hitch Crane. Also, i don't think you could find any better Customer Service as etrailer provided either. VERY fast shipping and excellent contact and follow up. a BIG Thank YOU to eTrailer.

So, where to begin. I ordered the hitch mount crane to assist loads of 200 lbs. Plus. I paid and was informed that the item would be shipped that day. It was during the holidays so I expected it to arrive a week after it was ordered. It wasn't. I then called and found out it had not been shipped at all. Izzy then said she would get it out that day from the source. True to her word she did. 4 days later the package arrived. The next day I assembled the crane and when inserting the chain link into the receiver slot, I discovered it was not manufactured correctly. So I called and spoke to Suzanne. She asked me to send her pictures to show what was wrong. I did, she couldn't open them and emailed me back to ask for them again. So I sent her three emails so she could see the issue. She forwarded these to the manufacturer and sure enough they had assembled the arm upside down. So they said they would send another one and replace the original. I went to a local retailer, picked up 5 links of a rated chain with longer links, replaced the hook, and chain so that it would work, and called them to not send this 140 lb item again. All of their service people were solution oriented and helpful. We stopped the shipment and now we wait and watch what happens.

It works fine. I load large tool boxes, generators and fuel tanks with ease. Assembly takes time, but lifting large heavy items make it one of my most valuable tools. Thanks for asking and following up.

Fairly easy to assemble. Very easy to use. We are purchasing some stabilizing pads to put under the feet to keep it from sinking into the ground. We will use this for many things, but primarily firewood gathering.

Order form was easy to navigate. Communication was immediate from etrailer. Thank you George J. The crane is well designed and manufactured. It easily lifted my chipper on and off my truck. I would recommend reviewing rigging procedures to insure safe operation and to avoid damage to your item or your truck. I am very pleased with my purchase and highly recommend it. Thank you etrailer.

This crane does the trick for loading my Kawasaki Versys 300 into my truck bed. My bike is a little less than 400 lbs. I modified the hook to come out the very end, put straps on the cycle, jacked it up and rotated it into the truck. Back tire is in 6" from end of tailgate. Have doubts of it working for a heavier wider cycle, but works great for me. Can't beat the price !

Got this crane to load heavy stuff in back of f 350 4 x 4 pickup and in a utility trailer. box arrived pretty intact, some loose hardware floating around inside. Went together easily. My utility trailer is an off-road type so it sits high on 35" tires. As such the trailer hitch receiver is 24" off the ground. The legs do not adjust enough to fit on the trailer without some boards under them. The crane will fit fine in the receiver on the F 350 since it sits much lower. Tested it with a BIG portable generator and it works fine.

Comments
great, Used it out in the desert to load a huge rock for landscaping. Estimated weight is 500-650 lbs, at the limit of what my small backhoe could pick up! Since receiver on trailer is 24 high I made up some thick wooden blocks to put the legs down on.

Product was shipped right away, arrived in the time specified with all parts and no damage, so great experience with etrailer and will order from them again! As for the product (MaxxTow Hydraulic Pickup Truck Crane for 2" Hitches), it is sturdy (and heavy). No issues lifting a large oak stump that is easily 500 lbs. (Note on hitch height: mine is ~15” from the ground with no load. I had to use a car jack to remove and reinstall the Crain with the load in the bed due to drop in hitch height)

First I want to thank Chris W for her help in ordering and keeping me informed of the entire ordering and shipping process. Placed order on Monday and received it on Thursday. Box was big and heavy. I did not make a friend of the UPS delivery person. Box was banded. Thank goodness for that. Opened the box and made sure everything was in it as we were going to put it to work on Saturday. Nothing missing or damaged. Needed to move motors from their storage to another garage. Checked out the Long Ram Jack. I needed to add fluid so I purged all the fluid. The instructions stated never to mix different brands of oil together. Filled with new fresh fluid and purged the system of air. With the crane mounted we loaded the motor into the truck bed. We then put the crane in the bed and took off the leveling legs and place them in the bed. The other two items you can keep connected to the truck hitch. Just slide the horizontal base assembly in the T-shaped connector and insert the pin into the vertical hole that they provided. When you get to your destination you take out the pin slide it to the outside and mount the two legs and insert the crane in the vertical tube. At our destination just mounted the crane on the passenger side and lifted the motor out of the bed and placed it on the engine stand. Moving the second motor was as easy as moving the first motor. Overall things went well on its first use. I feel that I got value for the money that I spent. I did not look forward to lifting two motors in and out of the bed and putting them onto engine stands. This item fit the bill. No complaints on construction and the quality of the build that was received. Since the crane arm has limited reach think about your move so that you can better place your item in the bed. If you load on the driver side but at the destination you need to mount the crane on the passenger side you might not have the reach to hook up the item. For storage plan on this taking up some space. I took off the Long Ram Jack and stored it with the ram pointing up. The Boom and Post I stored with the Thrust Bearing pointed up. The other items found a home next to the Boom. Suggestion: Better cover material for the thrust bearing and shaft. Maybe a heavy-duty canvas bag would be better.

Got it put together this morning. Everything fit and looks good. Looks strong. Welds look good. Boom moves around easily. I set it up on an incline as you can see in the photo, just to get a look at it. I promise I will not use it on an incline. If I use the 750 or 1000 lb section, I will probably need to take tailgate off, which is smart to do anyway (probably would never lift that much anyway unless I really had to). Will be able to use the 500lb hole for most of the stuff I have for home projects and camping, even the garden tiller. And should store easily in my truck tool box. I would much rather have one of these than one that mounts in the bed and screws up the bed liner. Im pleased. Neighbors will probably be walking over to take a look at it. Maybe somebody else on the street will want one.

I received my truck crane today & it was a very heavy box, which the UPS driver was not to happy about ? My back won't let me lift heavy things as I get older & smarter so leverage is good right? I broke with tradition by assembling the crane on the vehicle. 1st I put the stabilizing feet together & mounted to the base then I put the receiver hitch arm on & mounted it to the vehicle & everything from that point on was just a matter of stacking the remaining parts until it was completed by loosely fitting the nuts & bolts & tightening them down after the assembly was right. Everything fit well though there were some metal burrs here & there left over from manufacturing, all easily removed with a screw driver & a hammer, the assembly was straight forward. I tested the crane out by picking up an engine using the 10,000# axle straps that I also bought from etrailer which I recommend as the flat D rings on the straps easily fit into the cranes chain hook. I like the fact that I can pick up the arm on the bottle jack so that I don't have to spend a lot of time hand pumping it all of the way up to take up the slack, so far I like it a lot & I can guarantee that E-trailer will sell a few more once my friends & family see it in action.

Great tool for getting fifth wheel hitch out of truck. It is a little a little short in that does not reach the pin box when in the truck but can use 2 x 4's to lever hitch out and slide to where can attach.

- MT70238
by:

Received my new crane yesterday and could not wait to assemble it, get it mounted to the truck, and test it out. I am thrilled. Assembly is straight forward and requires just simple hand tools. Using the receiver hitch keeps your bed clear and I think probably makes for a more stable mount. As soon as everything was assembled and double checked for safety, I did a dry (empty) run to make sure all was in order. Then I loaded my 250 lb generator into the truck and it was a breeze. I had been using ramps to load and unload the generator and it was tough and probably a little dangerous. I loaded my 250 lb generator with ease using the crane. It also breaks down quickly and easily for transport or storage. I've had it just one day but I am very happy with my purchase. I think it will make loading and unloading heavy items much quicker and safer.

You guys have a serious problem between the warehouse and final delivery. Ordered a 5er hitch last month and the base unit was lost, took an extra week to receive a replacement. On this crane shipment, the box was seriously compromised, most the staples were ripped open and the box was only held together by the shipping strap. I hope all the contents are there - will not be able to check until this weekend. Don't know if it's etrailer or UPS, but something is definitely wrong.

- MT70238
by:

I ordered this on a Sunday and received it on Thursdays: very fast shipping for something that weighs so much. Box had come open, so I was worried that there might be something missing. Everything was accounted for, but I would recommend that the box have shipping strapping. One of the leg brackets on the base assembly was bent, but i was able to bend it back. This is the only reason why I ididn't give it 5 stars. Now to the review: great product, very sturdy well built and between the included instructions and the etrailer video, I had no problem assembling. Worked great! I had a large length of green oak (with a nice piece of burl) in my truck bed that I was able to easily take out of the bed and lower to the floor. I am sure that I will be using it for a lot of other things in the future.

- MT70238
by:

Solidly built. Easy to assemble. However it did not reach as far into the truck bed as I’d hoped. Still I managed to remove a 350 lb Demco Highjacker Autoslide 5th wheel hitch without breaking my back.

Only used a couple times since purchase. But was sure glad I had it when needed it. Had an opportunity for a great deal on a generator welder (weighs 646 lbs) this crane made it possible to load in truck and then again to pick up and swing it onto its own trailer.

I like to camp with my wife. I load my Yeti cooler an the back of our camper for weight distribution, but when we get to the campground I want to put the cooler on the back of the truck so when we go to an adventure we have our cold drinks and food. My wife is petite, and the cooler at 200 plus pounds, well she is not much help in the lifting department. This will get the cooler off the back of the camper and lift it into the truck without having to dump all the cold ice and water. Also great lifting the generator too.

Absolutely marvelous piece of equipment. I can lift a 400lb generator all by myself including a large washing machine and swing them into the back of my pickup truck then unload them at my destination. Works extremely well! Worth every penny.

Lift was to short to place our fifth wheel hitch all of the way into the truck. My husband and son built an extension to it and it now works great. The product save us from injuring our backs and legs.

  • Will MaxxTow Hydraulic Pickup Truck Crane Work to Lift 5th Wheel Hitch Out of 2018 Ram 3500
The MaxxTow Hydraulic Pickup Truck Crane # MT70238 along with the Demco Bracket # DM6100 is a great option for lifting a 5th wheel hitch out of the bed of your 2018 Ram 3500 and it will work really well. Just keep in mind that the crane likely won't reach all the way to where the hitch is mounted to the rails so you will still need to manually move the hitch a bit in the bed to where the crane can grab it. I have attached a couple video demonstrations that you can check out as well.

The boom is 43 inches long and you'll be reaching from the side of your truck's tailgate. Whatever kind of crane you use the bracket # DM6100 would make a great addition to it. The bracket fits into the jaws of the hitch and then it would be hooked to the crane.

  • Left to Right Width Range of MaxxTow Crane # MT70238
Sounds like you are asking about a dimensional range of the MaxxTow Crane but I am not entirely sure what dimension you are looking for when you say the working distance from the hitch to the side of the trailer. Are you trying to determine if this sticks out far enough to the side of your trailer to determine if it would fit? Or possibly straight back from the rear of the trailer?

  • Will MaxxTow Hydraulic Pickup Truck Crane Work for Rooftop Tent
The MaxxTow Hydraulic Pickup Truck Crane # MT70238 referenced in your question has a height clearance of 84 inches from the bottom of the connector chain to the ground. When judging if this will give you enough clearance, you will also just want to take into account the height of your rooftop tent, as this length will be hanging down from the bottom of the connector chain on the crane. The boom length itself is 43 inches, which will be the amount it extends out from the base of the crane. Assuming...

  • Can the MaxxTow Hydraulic Pickup Truck Crane be Used with a 2017 Chevy Equinox
The combined weight of the MaxxTow Hydraulic Pickup Truck Crane for 2" Hitches - 1,000 lbs Item # MT70238 and the load it is carrying cannot exceed the tongue weight capacity of the trailer hitch on your 2017 Chevy Equinox. The crane itself weighs about 140 pounds but not all of that weight is on the hitch (since the crane has a couple of legs). To make the math easier we can say that the hitch is holding at least 1/3 of the total weight but probably a little more. The height of the...

  • Loading an 850 Pound Motorcycle Into Bed of Truck
We do not know of any customers that have used the Crane # MT70238 that you referenced to load a motorcycle in the bed of their truck. The crane is not specially designed to load something as tall as a motorcycle into a truck bed so you will need to connect at a low point like the seat. Because of how close the boom will need to be to the pivot point to hold the 1,000 pound capacity, I do not think you will have enough clearance for the likely width of your bike at the crane. Because of...

  • Could the MaxxTow Crane part # MT70238 Lift 55 Gallon Drum into Truck Bed
The MaxxTow Crane part # MT70238 has a max height it can lift of 84 inches from the ground to the bottom of the chain when fully lifted. If your drum would be successfully lifted to get in the bed of your truck at 84 inches from the ground and it weighs less than 1,000 lbs this crane should work well for you.

  • Lifting Height Max for MaxxTow Crane part # MT70238
The MaxxTow Crane part # MT70238 has a max height it can lift of 84 inches from the ground to the bottom of the chain when fully lifted.
