Securely transport your long cargo with the sturdy steel Big Bed load extender. It lets you safely and easily carry lumber, canoes, kayaks, ladders, and other loads that extend past the bed of your truck, SUV, or UTV.
The installation of the Big Bed is quick and easy. Just slide the load extender into your 2" trailer hitch receiver. A hitch pin and clip or a hitch lock (sold separately) is required to secure the Big Bed in your hitch. When it's not in use, the Big Bed can be folded so that it's easy to transport and store.
The Big Bed extends 4' from your trailer hitch receiver, giving you plenty of space to carry your lengthy cargo. It has an adjustable mast height of 16" - 9". This allows you to level the support bar with the bed of your truck. Three integrated tie-down points make it simple to secure your load.
You also have the option of converting the Big Bed load extender into a high-mount load bar with the included adapter. The adapter lets you lift the load extender so that it's level with the roof of your cab. This makes it easy to transport canoes, ladders, drywall, and other long items above your truck bed, and it frees up space in your truck bed for hauling other cargo.
The 2 sturdy steel arms easily install on the Big Bed load extender with the included hardware. The short arm has 3 mounting holes so that you can adjust the height of the Big Bed. Simply slide the load bar up or down along the upright post and use the included pin and clip to secure it in place at the desired height. The long arm slides into your trailer hitch receiver.

The sturdy Big Bed is used to carry loads that extend past the bed of your truck or UTV. Or the included adapter can be used to convert it to a high-mount load bar so you can haul cargo above your bed and level with the roof of your cab.The Erickson Big Bed Load Extender works great to transport my 16-foot canoe on top of my extended-cab Tacoma with cab-high camper shell — even on fairly extreme four-wheel-drive roads. I use a temporary, suction-cup-style cross bar on top of the truck cab. Then, with the load-extender at the back of the vehicle, the canoe is able to sit farther back, keeping it away from the windshield instead of sticking out over the hood and deep into the driver's field of vision (as it needed to do because of its curving shape) when carried directly on the shell and cab using foam pads. With the Extender, the canoe can clear the shell by several inches, enabling the shell's back window to fully open to access the bed. The Extender sits back far enough to also enable the tailgate to freely drop. Taller folks still need to duck under the very back of the canoe, but the warning flag minimizes head bumps. When loading the canoe, I use heavy duty Velcro straps to temporarily attach a longer cross bar to one side of the Extender's cross bar. This enables me to place one end of the canoe up on that extra length of bar while keeping the canoe a good 18 inches away from the vehicle. Then I go place the other end of the canoe and lift it up onto the cross bar on the cab. Finally, I return to the rear and slide the canoe over onto the Extender's cross bar and remove my temporary side-extension bar. This approach enables quick, easy, one-man loading of a heavy canoe without ever getting close to the vehicle or camper shell body. When taking the canoe out for closer, shorter trips with no meaningful load in the bed, I lower the Extender's cross bar and put the canoe (still upside down) in the bed, where it slants up and over the closed tailgate and rests on the extender's cross bar. I then tie down the open back window of the shell. I've also used the Load Extender to transport 16-foot lengths of lumber on top of the vehicle using the same cab rack. The product offers lots of flexibility.
I made some changes to it. I added stronger strap attachments, a pvc pipe roller for my canoe, and plan to add two anti rattle clamps, added a better strap.
Well packed, arrived with no damage and all parts included, despite the carrier having damaged the box. Incredibly easy to set up, and a breeze to use. Used it to haul home some 16' 2x8 from the lumber yard. Included flag has a robust hanger on it and the bungee loops were key to keeping the load secured. Wished I had purchased one sooner. Not an everyday item, but very handy when you need it.
Great design and well built! This is made of heavy-gauge steel and i do not foresee ever having to replace it. I bought the track with the adapter you use it as a high-load support for boats, but I will use it in both configurations. I would have given it 5 starts, but the adapter had no instructions, and the bolts had different sized heads than those included with the main body. V this meant I needed the wrenches to get the thing together.
Directions were not very helpful at all. I figured it out anyway but it took a while to figure it out. Rack is a little rickety but I knew that going in. A few straps from it to my truck and it’s much more stable

Still needs lots of extra support to keep it from violently thrashing about. Wish I had a way of stabilizing it at the hitch site
Looks well made (sorry it was not made in the USA though). Packaging was poor. The Extender box is not very big but was placed in a very large exterior box with little packing. Extender box seems to have been previously opened and the hardware bags were open too.

Thank you for letting us know. I have sent your information to our customer service team and they will be reaching out.
Great product, well worth the money !!! Unit is well made, sturdy and love that it can be used as a bed extender or a roof mount unit. It’s the main reason I bought it !!
I am pleased with this purchase. It is well designed, well made, and quite versatile. I recommend this product.
This thing is the bomb! Just installed on my 2022 Santa Cruz and it adjusted perfectly for the bed and roof heights as well as with the tailgate up. Fast shipping. Heavy construction and it packs up into a simple to store compact unit.
Bought two different items and they are both great fit like a glove no problem with either one

Just perfect hauling long lumber no problem.
Product is high quality and easy to assemble and install. We are using it in the upright mode to carry our paddle boards, resting one end on the rack and the other on the roof of my truck. Only negative comment I have is that the connecting piece does not fit snugly in the trailer hitch receiver so there is some wobble when driving around with the rack unloaded.

Glenn,Thank you for your review. For rattling or wobble issues with the load extender I would recommend a Blue Ox Hitch Receiver Immobilizer II for 2 inch hitches. Part BX88224. The immobilizer Stiffens and reinforces receiver to help eliminate rattle and sway. https:/www.etrailer.com/Hitch-Anti-Rattle/Blue-Ox/BX88224.html
For front of vehicle kayak support, receiver extension was out too far. Drilled another set of holes closer to 90 degree piece, and was able to slide the extender closer to the front bumper. Using ratchet straps, was able to rigidly support overhanging kayak.
I received the Erickson Big Bed Load Extender and Draw-Tite Front Mount quickly the people at etrailer kept me in the loop when there was a chance that the Front Mount may be late because the manufacturer had not sent stock. This did not become and issue but they called me ASAP when they knew they did not have stock. Nice Service!!!!!!!!!!!
I do have a suggestion when installing the Draw-Tite Hitch. The directions say to drill or cut a 1 1/4" access hole in the side of the frame rail to have access when installing the 1/2 in bolts and plate. This is not necessary in my 2006 Dodge 2500 truck. Make a 12" snake out of a piece of copper wire from some Romex. Make a loop in the end and after drilling the 1/2" lower mounting holes in the frame, snake the wire thru the 1/2" hole to the front of the frame rail. Attach the wire that is in the kit to the snake wire and pull it thru the front of the rail to the 1/2 in drilled holes.
This procedure makes the installation much easier, saves time and DYI'ers do not have special tools to drill such a large hole.
Hope this tip helps.
Very heavy, but well-designed.
Will suit my purpose fine. Directions though are specifically for the bed extender. Had to look at the pics on the web site to confirm my assembly

Use it periodically and works fine
Product arrived double boxed and undamaged. The conversion to roof support was in separate box minus the instructions. Notified etrailer about lack of instructions and they immediately emailed them to me. Thought about leaving it in the "trunk" of the Ridgeline but it is heavier and bigger than anticipated. Will need a couple of wrenches to put it together or switch between versions. Seems like a well made product. The support arms move smoothly. Will probably get an extra lock nut since they have a tendency to get lost at the most inopportune time.
I am very pleased with my recent purchase of the Erickson Big Bed Load Extender. I also am very pleased with the addition of the High Mount Load Bar assembly. The units are well engineered for a perfect fit on my Jeep GC, and are made of a super heavy powder coated steel material. The flexibility to use it in several ways was a major factor in my purchased. The units arrived in only 2 days and highly recommend these products!
At first I was skeptical about this piece of equipment. I went to the lumber yard to purchase some 2x6x16 pressure treated boards. The salesman looked confused because I have a Ford F-150 with a 6 foot bed. I told him that I have a new piece of equipment that I want to try out to carry the load. He looked in amazement as I connected the extension to my receiver, and proceeded to load the lumber. This piece of equipment allowed me to to carry longer pieces of lumber to the job site without the use of a larger vehicle. The sales staff were helpful in assisting me in selecting the correct extension and provided prompt delivery.
Used it just once so far, works just fi ne
This carrier is robust and I anticipate that it will work will on my 2019 tacoma pickup. It would be great if instructions came with the conversion kit to allow it to be a roof top level carrier. After reviewing the pictures on etrailer web site it was an easy job to assembly the unit.
Erickson Big Bed Load Extender solves the problem to carry long materials like metal or plastic pipes, wood or equipments that extend over the bed length on a pickup truck.
Heavy construction, easy to assembly and install.
I originally made a mistake. Thought I didn't receive the entire order. Called and talked to Noah. He was extremely courteous and very understanding. He apologized and promised to ship missing parts immediately. He even gave me his extension. later I realized I was wrong, the order was complete, my error! I called and left Noah an apology. I could not be happier with etrailer and Noah. Great company!!
I have used hitch extender numerous times to carry my kayak to the beach. It provides great support for my boat!
This bed extender works as advertised. I would highly recommend it to anyone that has an extended cab pickup with a short bed. This is great for hauling longer items around.
mostly eliminates the need for a trailer

Still just as handy and easy to use as the day I took it out of the box
