Rob: Hey, everybody. It's Rob here at etrailer.com. Today we're going to be taking a look at the Westin Custom Fit Truck Bed Mat on our 2020 Chevrolet Colorado. Now having a truck bed mat comes in handy for a few different things. You can see here, our truck already has a spray-in liner, which definitely helps protect the truck. But what people don't think about, once you put our gear back there, or even if we get in the bed of the truck, if you've ever been in a bed that has a spray-in liner, it becomes very stiff and almost like sandpaper once it's fully cured. So if you have really sensitive material that you put in your bed, it potentially can start sliding around, end up getting scratched.
Not to mention, if you end up climbing in your bed, it can definitely take a toll on your knees. That's where the mat is definitely going to help out with both of those situations. Our mat is made out of rubber. So it's definitely going to help protect our gear and the truck. So since it's rubber, it's going to have a nice texture to keep things from slipping around. But again, it's also going to be soft enough that it's not going to be scratching our knees or banging up any of the gear we have in our bed.Now they are going to come rolled up like this.
And once you get it out of the package, it may tend to kind of curl up a little bit. But I will let you know, once you get it in place, you put it in the sun for a little bit, the mat should really relax a lot and lay nice and flat on the bed of the truck. Now typically what I do is I like to lay the mat on the edge of the tailgate and you do want to make sure you find the correct end of the mat. Down here at the bottom, it'll say made in the USA. And you'll notice that the end where it kind of tapers in is rather short.
That's going to be the backside towards the tailgate. The other end is going to be a little bit longer and that's going to go towards the bulkhead or towards the cab.So I'm going to hop up in the bed of our truck. I'll grab the front end of it. Just kind of unroll it, bring it towards the front of my truck. And it is a little bit stiff, kind of hard to pull just because it is rubber, so it grabs really well.
We'll just slide it in place and just kind of walk out. You make all those little adjustments we need, so we can get our mat to lay nice and flat.So now that the mat's in there, you can see exactly how thick it is, and that's going to be five sixteenths of an inch thick and it is made out of rubber. Now five sixteenths doesn't sound like a whole lot, but once you get the mat in your hand, you really feel it. It's actually an extremely heavy-duty mat. I would feel extremely comfortable riding around, not even having to worry about wind catching it and it coming up, because it does weigh enough to keep it in the bed and not coming fluttering up in the wind.So the mat again is going to do a lot for us. We have the protection for our truck, with the spray-in bedliner, but now the mat is going to make sure that everything we put in the bed is protected. And honestly, like I said earlier, walking around on this mat really isn't that bad because that rubber gives you a nice little bit of cushion on your knees and on your legs. So we're not tearing them up on that spray-in liner. And the mat is going to be resistant to most automotive chemicals. And if it does need to be cleaned, we can either hop in our trucks, spray it down with a hose. Or if you really want to get a deep clean, we can pull it out, spray it down, scrub it down, let it dry, and put it back. Just a lot easier because you can remove it to get some of those larger pieces out rather than having to try to scrub the truck bed itself. Now our bed mat is custom made for our Colorado that has a five-foot bed. You can see it is going to go around the wheel wells and all the cutouts around the bed, so it fits really nicely. Just keep in mind that our bed mat does work with spray-in liners and bare beds, but you don't want to put the mat in a bed that has a plastic drop-in liner in it.On the other side of our mat, we are going to have this textured finish. That's going to help it stay in place and keep it from slipping around. So again, even if we're driving with the tailgate down or if we don't have anything in here, we're still not going to have to worry about it moving because all of those grips and the fact that the entire thing is made out of rubber, it's going to grip the bed of the floor really nice and keep it in place. But again, I'm Rob here at etrailer.com and that'll finish up your look at the Westin Custom Fit Truck Bed Mat on our 2020 Chevrolet Colorado..
