A Safe Ride is a Comfortable Ride

If you're looking for the best tie-downs for your camper, frame-mounted is the way to go. The frame is the most solid part of your entire vehicle, so it just makes sense to attach your camper to something that's not going to warp, bend, or twist. Even more importantly, the camper's center of gravity will sit lower and its weight will be spread across the entire bed. This avoids a top-heavy load perched on top of your bed rails that's liable to sway and get pushed around by crosswinds. The camper's not going to shift or slide around while you drive; it's going to stay put, and your truck is going to handle just like it does without a camper.

Quick Tip: If you have a plastic or spray-in bed liner, it's important that you use a rubber mat under the camper to eliminate any sliding or bouncing.

Don't Ruin Your Truck's Looks

Frame-mounted tie-downs are also a great pick for preserving your truck's good looks. The brackets install on the frame, tucked nearly flush with the underside of the vehicle. Remove the arms from the brackets when you're not hauling your camper, and the brackets will be barely visible.

Custom Fit, No-Drill Installation

Completely custom to your vehicle, the tie-downs attach to exisiting holes in your frame so that there's little to no drilling and no need for any modifications. Because they're custom, you'll want to use our in-house application guide to make sure you get the exact right model. The tie-downs you need might be different depending on what type of hitch or other accessories you have.

Securing Your Camper

TorkLift Tie Down Example

Once the tie-downs are installed, use a set of turnbuckles (sold separately) to secure the camper to the tie-downs. The shank on each arm has 2 pin holes so you can choose how far out they extend, that way the turnbuckles can reach the anchors on your camper without making contact with your truck. Tighten the turnbuckles to the correct level of tension (not too tight!).

where to put camper tie downs

Make sure the anchor points are offset from the tie-downs instead of lined up with them so that they will hold your camper from multiple angles. This is important for keeping your camper from shifting. Two holes in the attachment plate of the tie-downs let you find the best angle for you camper anchors.

Video Transcript for Review of TorkLift Truck Camper Tie Downs - Custom Frame Mounted Rear Camper Tie Downs - TL48GV

Hi everybody. Andy here with etrailer.com. Let's take a look at these TorkLift, custom frame mounted rear camper tie downs. Now these tie downs are gonna give you attachment points at the rear of the bed of your truck for securing a bed mounted camper. Turn buckles are required to attach your camper to these tie downs. And of course, those turn buckles are sold separately, but you can find 'em here at etrailer.com.

Now these have been designed to fit your 2019 to 2020 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra 1500, both with the eight foot bed without a board, or step underneath the truck bed. And with a factory installed hitch on custom fit parts, such as these tie downs, I do recommend taking advantage of our vehicle fit guide here at etrailer.com. Just input the year, make, and model of your vehicle and our fit guide will confirm if these will work for you or if we have something comparable that will work for you. If you're also looking for the front camper tie downs, you'll just go through the same process through our fit guide. I do wanna point out that these are not going to be compatible with trucks with plastic bedliners, just so you're aware of that upfront.

So the frame mounted design is going to ensure excellent handling because securing your camper to the base of your truck, instead of its bed, is going to better distribute weight to keep your setup from being too top heavy. These brackets are going to fit tight to the truck's frame, so there's not gonna be any loss of ground clearance. They will use preexisting holes in the frame. So there's gonna be the little to no drilling required to install these. And these steel tie down inserts are going to secure to these durable steel receiver brackets.

And the inserts can be easily removed from these frame mounted brackets with the included bale pins here that I have right here. And so when you remove these, it's gonna make these tie downs virtually undetectable when they're not in use. So let me just give you a brief demonstration of how easy this is going to be to remove. So I went ahead and removed our pin and then removed the insert. And so you can then just take these inserts and put 'em in the back of the cab of your truck when they're not in use.

So as you can see, you're really not gonna be able to see anything once you have those inserts removed. And if you notice here we have two holes here in these inserts. So if your camper is a little bit wider, you would use the first hole here on the insert to have the tie down point stick out a little bit farther. If your camper is a little bit narrower, you can move it into that second hole, which that's what the hole that I'm using here just to make sure this is all gonna fit on my table. So I'm gonna slide this back into place and match up my holes there and then just replace the pin and just secure it, just like that. And then that insert is going to be secure in that bracket. So these do feature a high impact powder coat finish. It's going to give you an extra layer of protection to the brackets and to the inserts. You're gonna receive everything that you see here on my table. And as you can see, I do kind of have these loosely put together where most of the hardware is going to go, just to kind of give you an idea of what this is going to look like. Instructions are also included to guide you through the installation process. These do have a lifetime warranty from TorkLift. And I think that's gonna wrap up our quick look today. I do hope that it was helpful for you. Again, my name is Andy. Thank you for joining me.
