Video Transcript for UWS Secure Lock Low Profile Truck Bed Toolbox Review

What's up everybody It's AJ with etrailer.com. Today, we're gonna be checking out this is UWS Secure Lock Crossover and Low Profile toolbox. It also has a BedRug insert on the inside. Let's check it out. We have room for a bunch of our cases with our tools already in there. It's nice that they're in there and we want it organized at least, not just sliding around in the bed.

This one is unique because it's got this BedRug at the bottom. I'll move this out of the way so you can see it. You got a BedRug here that has a hook and loop attachment so it can come out if you need to clean it. So that's gonna make it easier, you don't have to worry about it being stuck down there and being a pain to clean out if you need to do that. So it rips right outta there.

But I like it in there because it's also a sound dampening for the toolbox. A lot of complaints is if you just put loose tools in the bottom, you're driving around, you'll hear that rattling and movement. This makes it a little bit easier if I drop this in there. It's not as loud. This isn't metal, so it's not really the best example but like the screw drivers.

Those'll be far louder if I drop them on just a regular box. Now with the screwdrivers, put 'em back in place. It actually has the screwdriver organizer right here. So I like that aspect too, so you don't have to throw them in the bottom of the toolbox. And a nice thing about this is some of the toolboxes, the screwdriver holder is in the way of the gas strut.

So I like that the gas strut has its own section here. I don't have to worry about, when I close this lid, where the taller screwdrivers are or it could hit that and damage it. There's also a BedRug inserts on the sides of the toolbox. We just can't put ours in today because you'd have to cut it around where you put the hardware and the hardware's gonna be a J-hook that goes and connects underneath the bed rail and you have a washer and a nut up top to tighten that down. Really easy to install and holds it really well. I just wanna explain the low profile design. That means it's only gonna sit up about two inches from your bed rails. So it's not gonna get in the way of the back headrest whatsoever. It's underneath there. It's not gonna be in the way when you're looking in that back mirror. Another thing I mentioned in the beginning is that it's a crossover style, which that means it's gonna have a little bit of a gap at the bottom so you can still put longer loads in the back of your truck and use the truck bed. I really like that features, where it's not gonna be as deep as some of the other toolboxes. So it's not gonna fit as much tools, but I would rather be able to use the truck bed still if I needed to. Now let's open the box and check it out. First up, on the outside will be the secure lock latches. So it's a little bit different than normal ones where you just kind of pull on that metal piece to open it up. You're gonna actually turn the handle and they work in unison. You'll see if I turn this one, the one on the other side turns it the same time. And then you can lift up the lid. Now the lid's not gonna pop right up on its own. You'll have to get to about here and it'll go up. So maybe it's even further than that. So it doesn't fall right back down until you get it right there. It's gonna hold in place. Then a little bit past that, it'll pop up and go up on its own. So one more time just to get a better idea. About here, it's not going to click in there. Now, it'll hold itself up. And then from there it'll pop open. When I turn the handles up front, you'll see that the catches here move at the same time, like I said, and that rod in between them is what connects them and makes it work like that. I like that there's also a shield here in front of it, so just in case you're throwing heavy things in here, you're not gonna hit that rod and bend it or break it and cause it not to be able to use in the same way. Sometimes these tool boxes have trays in them and there's been complaints that the metal ones rattle a whole bunch. Well, luckily this one has a plastic tray that goes from either side of the toolbox, thanks Tom, and whatever side you need it on, you can slide it to. So we have just some drills and batteries up here that you might need anywhere. Easier to reach in because it's a little higher than the bottom of the box. So you can just reach in and grab it far easier. Take look at the lid of the box. We have these strikers here. I like that those are adjustable so you can loosen both of these and move them back and forth. That way it latches the first try every time like it did when it's brand new. Now this one's a little bit different just because you don't slam latch it. So you don't slam the lid so it latches in place. You have to turn the handles back over. But still if it's not catching just right, you can adjust that and I like that. Looking around the edge, you're gonna have this foam seal that's gonna help keep the elements out. The lid is also foam injected. So it's not just a hollow lid. So that's not only gonna insulate the box, but also help keep it structured. So if you we're to drop something heavier up on top, it wouldn't dent or cave in as easily because that foam's pushing it out. Something I wanna point out when closing it, is I like that it doesn't just stop at the top of the lid. So this isn't just closed here, you'll see there's a lip here that goes quite a bit down and it covers it up. So that way it's gonna be harder for the elements to go up and in. Looking inside the box, it's got 8.4 cubic feet of space, which that doesn't mean a whole lot to me but you can see how much we put in there. There's plenty of room for more tools. We didn't fill it to the brim. So you just won't be able to put any bigger buckets in there. But for the cases and stuff, plenty of room, have this whole area here to stack stuff up. Now with the lid closed, it's gonna be 70 inches across, 20 inches wide and then from our bed rail to the bottom of the box, it's gonna be a foot. I've worked with a few different of the brands of the toolboxes, but just to get an outside perspective, I asked my buddy Andy, who's been a carpenter over 10 years, and asked him what he looks for in these because I know he's had a few different boxes that went in the back of his truck. He says as long as the lid opens, is all he cares about, and the latches itself. He doesn't like the handles like this, he likes the weather guard approach where you can just elbow it, hit that button on the side and the lid pops open and then you can set your stuff in there. He says a lot of times, you've got you're hands full of stuff. So you need to hit that with your elbow so that you can just go drop it in. So that makes a lot of sense and that's something I might not have thought of on my own because for me, this just seems nice, that the handle operates and the lid pops up but this might be some issues here too. Just how maybe you got one hand full of stuff, lifting it to about here before the lid takes off might be a little bit of an issue for you. Overall, I think it's a great addition to your truck. Not only is it gonna help you keep your tools organized, locked up and safe, but it's a toolbox that doesn't take up your whole bed. It's a crossover style so that ladder fits right under there and you can still take anything you might need to throw and slide in there. And it being low profile, it's not gonna take up all that back view of the window. So it's not gonna be impeding any of that view. I think that does it. Thanks for hanging out and I hope this helps..
