Firestone Coil-Rite Air Spring Basics

Firestone Coil-Rite springs fit inside your existing front coil springs to maximize the effectiveness of your suspension system. The added cushion provided by the air springs allows your vehicle to better handle pushing a plow or hauling a heavy, front-mounted load such as a large grille. Hauling heavy loads can make the front of your vehicle sag and the rear end rise. This puts more strain on your front axle and reduces contact between your rear tires and the road, causing problems with braking, steering control and traction. By adding air springs to your front suspension, you can help to level your vehicle for more effective braking and handling under heavy loading or when you encounter adverse road conditions. The air springs also help to level your headlight beams and reduce wear on your tires.

Firestone Coil-Rite airline installation

Adjustable Air Pressure

The air pressure in your Coil-Rite springs can be adjusted manually, side to side, to compensate for off-center loads. A centered load improves the stability of your vehicle by reducing body roll. The air springs will also help to absorb road shock and soften contact between your axle and frame. This prevents bottoming out, thus improving ride comfort. Route the air line tubing for the springs to your vehicle's bumper to provide easy access to the manual inflation valves.

Firestone Coil-Rite air spring components

Air Spring Construction

Coil-Rite springs are constructed of durable, elastic polyurethane to ensure years of service. Single replacement springs (sold separately) are available for maintenance to an existing Coil-Rite kit.

Air Spring Installation

The Coil-Rite springs install inside your existing coil springs. The custom-fit springs attach to your vehicle's spring seats.

Just what I needed for my F250. Easy to install. I needed something to lift the front suspension while not towing or having a heavy load in the bed. Great price.

2012 Ford F-250 Super Duty

I have a small farm and to commute to the farm I drive about 200 interstate highway miles and 12 miles of bumpy dirt road with somewhat heavy equipment, my front shocks had to be replace twice a year and also right front off road tire on my F-250, after placement of the Firestone air ride helper(self doer, easy no more than an hour of work) my front new off road tires are wearing out like it should be, evenly (no bumps), no more expensive replacement of parts, and when it comes to handling on high speed interstate and city everyday commute, I'm very very satisfied. It also raised the front end of the truck about 1/2 inch, makes it look awesome. From my perspective on this product, no negatives remarks, for me all positive rating, highly recommended.

Reviewing products through etrailer is easy. etrailer sells top quality products at very affordable pricing. What you get at etrailer that you can't find at other companies is the BEST customer service you can find. I started using etrailer when I had an issue with another Firestone distributor. When I called Firestone direct to get the parts I needed that the other vendor would not sell to me (or even acknowledge my existence) Firestone referred me to etrailer as their #1 distributor. Not only did I get the parts shipped direct from the manufacturer, but they arrived in 3 days. I have placed more than one order and without fail have had the best service. Thank you etrailer !

Great upgrade for carrying weight in the back or towing a trailer. They are a bit tough to install. I found twisting the bag over in the middle and inserting it between the spring to the trick. Insert the top side on the passenger bag first. Insert the bottom side first on the driver side take care with the week ass tubing because if it folds over on itself in a coil, it will remain pinched which I can see will cause problems in the future. The tubing was better 20 years ago than what they give you today. One tube replacement over $30!! Ridiculous !! I like the right height adjustability and my truck feels more stable with a load of weight in the back of my truck advertised in the video shown below.

by:

After installation we are towing on the level and enjoying the ride. In an effort to maintain the minimum air pressure to each Coil-Rite Helper at all times, we installed individual air supplies to each Helper. We used our onboard Horn-Blaster air compressor to supply two air pressure regulators allowing us to easily change air pressure to each individual helper as desired. Each regulator employs a check-valve to maintain pressure to the Helpers in case of a compressor failure. We have marked each pressure gauge to the minimum pressure and another mark for our desired towing pressure.

These air bags for my Santa Fe work great. Little more work as we had to drop shocks and drill holes for the Air line, but that's the model of vehicle. Had an air bag leak from the fitting ( not sure if that is because of how the bag is designed or an install error but they shipped me a new air bag very quickly to replace it. Been a week now and no complaints. Make all the difference with sag when towing a boat or camper. Happy customer.

5 for the product, 1 for Etrailer and Firestone's service. As far as I know, this product continues to be packed with the instruction manual from a different model, which overstates the maximum PSI for this model by something like 50psi. The first one I purchased (that was filled below the max PSI that the instruction manual incorrectly stated) exploded while I was towing. It was terrifying. Both Etrailed and Firestone blew me off, refused to help, and said they could do nothing about the wrong manual being shipped with this product. Around a year later an Etrailer rep sent a satisfaction survey and eventually refunded me, but it was incredibly frustrating.
The airbags themselves work as intended and I bought a second pair now that I know to ignore the manual.

by:

This is the best addition I've ever made to a tow vehicle! I have a 2020 Ram eco-diesel and I pull a 2016 Rockwood 25' travel trailer. Combined weight is about 11,000 lbs. These air bags help the truck handle much more confidently. My wife noticed a difference on our last trip (2200 miles round trip). The half ton Ram does a great job, the bags eliminate the little bit of squat. The level combination makes towing a breeze. The only hang up is installation. They do not squeeze between the spring coils. I installed mine at home but it wasn't easy.

by:

The Firestone airbags are very well made and has quality feel. It was not very warm in MN when I installed them so I needed to use lubrication and a heat gun to warm the airbags from a distance so the airbags would be pliable. My gladiator has a Decked drawer system and rear steel bumper installed which caused the rear to squat more than the front. After installing these airbags and learning that I was fluent in “FRENCH” the rear of the truck was raised and squatting issues addressed. The drive was improved as well, less body roll around curves.

by:

Exactly what I needed, work great, Thank You etrailer.com!

by:

I installed this on a Toyota Land Cruiser to help with larger trailers I was pulling. The install was a little more complicated than expected probably because of the age of my vehicle (2001) but with a little creative adjustments the work was done in about 3 hours.

I chose to run both sides on one inflator. After install I inflated them to recommended pressure and the truck rode just as it had with no bags. When I put a trailer on (6500) I inflated bags to about 25 pounds and the truck leveled out and the ride was wonderful.

I got another pair for my son and I am installing them on my new truck when they have a set for my model year

Out of ten

Install 6
Ride 9
Instructions 7
Included parts 8 (I had to get a tee junction to combine sides)

by:

So I will start with the good, good quality and well built. The bad was the install, in the video they claim you can deflate and slide thru coil springs, maybe if you have a lift and can walk under this is possible. If you are doing these in your garage with vehicle on jacks, forget about it!!! Ended up dropping the springs out and inserting bags, that was the ONLY way I can get them to fit. Does what they are designed for and feels like they will last.

by:

I have purchased 3 sets of Coil-Right. The product is very good but the installation instructions were terrible. The first set (2023) I installed per video instructions and it failed. The puck that is placed at the top of the bladder fell of and caused a catastrophic failure. The bladder was punctured and was basically destroyed. The second set (2023) I installed per the video but I enlarged the hole in the puck to help is stay on top of the bladder It failed also. The third set (2024) installed per the new installation instructions which removed the bump stop at the top of the tower. So far they seem to be working better but I think eventually the puck will diappere because there is nothing to hold it inside the spring. Time will tell. This is the only product for my vehicle I can use. 2021 Toyota Sienne LE.

by:

The kit works but unfortunately the bags leak out within 15-20 minutes. I had to route the lines inside the cabin and have my son maintain pressure during the long road trip

by:

As most have indicated fitting the bags in the springs is the hardest part. one tip I found helpful was once the bag was partially in, force the bottom of the bag with the air tube into the center of the spring then slowly let the air go back into the bag. Once it had some air in it i was able to move it around and get into place. once installed at 20 psi it raised my back end two inched. from 35" to 37" It is now level with the front of the vehicle. my vehicle is a 2015 armada platinum. Yes it has the auto leveling system. But the system wasn't functional. I've used these before in a 2010 armada platinum and it worked out great

by:

Great product. I must say that they were a little tough to install. A very tight fit. Fortunately for me I had the availability of a vacuum pump. With that I was able to evacuate all the air out of the bags which made them flatter, with that, it made it easier to slide them between the coil springs. I tow a small camper trailer, I usually run around 20 psi in the bags. This keeps my vehicle level and adds for a smooth ride. A great product.

by:

They work good put 20000 miles on car and have no issue. The squeak a little once in awhile but only noticeable when window down. They are much easier to put on with car jacked up and tire off.

  • Front Suspension Enhancement For 2021 Ram 1500 Classic With Snow Plow
Hello Lawrence, thanks for reaching out. Beefing up the front suspension of your truck is definitely a good idea if you plan on adding a snowplow, and I do have a good option for you. That said, there are no front air bag kits made for the 2021 Ram 1500 Classic 4x4. What I recommend instead is the Timbren Front Suspension Enhancement System # TDF15004B. These are 4,000 lb capacity rubber jounce-style springs and they will do a great job supporting the front of the truck while you plow....

  • Recommended Front and Rear Air Bags for a 2015 Ford F-350
I do have an option for you but the only type of air bags/springs we offer for a 2015 Ford F-350 are designed to aid with towing or hauling heavy loads. For this, I recommend the Firestone Ride-Rite Air Helper Springs part # F2597 for the rear and the Firestone Coil-Rite Air Helper Springs part # F4160 for the front. The rear air bags install between the leaf springs and frame and the front air bags install inside the coil springs. These kits are not designed to raise the height of the...

  • Will the Firestone F4160 Front Air Springs fit an F-350 With an Aftermarket Leveling Kit?
I can confirm that the Firestone Coil-Rite Air Helper Springs # F4160 will fit a 2019 Ford F-350. However, these are designed for use with stock suspension and we cannot say whether or not they can be used with aftermarket parts. This does not mean they will not fit, but again, I just cannot say they will for sure.

  • Recommended Front Air Springs For 2005 F-250 Diesel With Coil Springs
The suspension kit I recommend for your 2005 F-250 4X4 is the Firestone Coil-Rite Air helper Springs # F4160. This kit installs in your front coil springs and includes the air springs brackets, air springs, air line, hardware, and separate valves. Using a suspension enhancement system like this does not increase the load-carrying capacity of your truck, and is designed to be used with a suspension system in good working order. To be able to adjust the amount of air you put in your springs...

We have the Firestone Coil-Rite kit part # F4160 as a fit for the front axle of your 2019 Ford F-350 which will work great to support the suspension due to the weight of your snow plow. Firestone is the industry leader for air bags because of how well they are made and how long they last.

  • Recommended Front Suspension Enhancement for 2014 Ford F-350 With 4-1/2 Inch Lift and Snow Plow
Assuming you have the factory coil springs your best option will be the Firestone Coil-Rite Air Helper Springs # F4160. These are for the 4WD, if you have a 2WD then the # F4101 would be the correct part. These provide 1,000 lbs of load-leveling support by supporting your front coil springs. They will help to improve steering, braking, and headlight aim while reducing wear on your suspension. If you do not have the factory coil springs, your only option will be the Timbren Front Suspension...

The best options for you so long as you have the factory coil springs are with the Firestone Coil-Rite Air Helper Springs part # F4160 for 4x4 and part # F4101 for 4x2 or the Coil SumoSprings Custom Helper Springs part # CSS-1094F for 4x2. I will need to know exactly which compressor system you have on your 2021 Ford F-450. Typically the compressors will have either a single path or dual path controller. While this will allow you to control the Rear Air Springs # F35FV separately on a dual path if you combined it with the Front Air Springs # F4160 you would only be able to control the front and rear separately rather than all 4 corners with a wireless controller.
