Rear Suspension Support

Towing or hauling a heavy load can cause rear sag as your factory suspension compresses under the weight of the load. This means that the rear axle is trying to support not only the extra load but also the weight of your vehicle. And because there is less weight on your front axle, your front tires make less contact with the road, which causes problems with traction, steering, and braking. SumoSprings upgrade your vehicle's factory suspension to level your vehicle, improve driving performance, and keep your ride comfortable.

Installed spring when it is not compressed

SumoSprings provide progressive load control - the more you load them, the stiffer they become. With a lighter load, the springs will compress easily for soft engagement and a less bumpy ride. The closed-cell urethane material allows for smooth contact between the springs and your vehicle. And the springs act like a shock absorber to dampen road vibration.

Installed spring when it is compressed

The springs can also compress by as much as 80 percent to support a heavy rear load and to help your factory suspension bear up under the load. This evens out the weight, which levels your vehicle and ensures that your front tires are making better contact with the road. A level ride means that you have improved driving control, ensures safe headlight aim, and helps to minimize sway. The springs also support your factory suspension, which helps prevent sagging and reduces bottoming out.

The springs work independently from one another to support each side of your vehicle. This action helps to reduce body roll when you make a sharp turn. This also helps compensate for an off-center load.

Durable, Custom-Fit Springs

These microcellular urethane springs are tough. They resist abrasion, oil, salt, and UV rays that can more quickly wear out other springs, and they perform well in temperatures ranging from -25 F to 200 F (-33 C to 93 C).

SumoSprings compress vertically with minimum expansion to the sides, so they won't be damaged by nearby mechanical parts and they fit safely into tighter spots. And unlike air springs, SumoSprings require no maintenance or adjustment.

The helper springs are custom designed to fit your vehicle, and they install easily - no drilling required.

As advertised very easy to install these Sumo Springs on my 21GMC 1500. I only installed the plate not the 1” spacer. I tow an RV and expect the ride to be more balanced and able to carry more “stuff”. Ride after install is still smooth but on larger bumps I can notice stiffness. Very satisfied right now

by:
2020 Grand Design Momentum G-Class 5W Toy Hauler

Super easy to install on my 2021 trailboss. Haven't towed with them yet do we will see. I added the 1" spacer. May end up taking it out. Only half inch of space.

by:
2019 Chevrolet Silverado

Ordered these for my 19 Silverado 1500 hauling a 8100 lb (empty) 1200 lb tongue at, 37’ travel trailer. No more sag at all. I used the 1” spacer for more preload. I may take that spacer out between hauls as she seemed to ride pretty stiff unhitched. Other than jacking the ass end off the ground it is an easy install. About 20 mins not including jacking. Package arrived on time

by:

when I purchased my truck this was the first upgrade I did. Easy to install much bigger than the OEM bump stops. Keeps my truck level while towing my camper.

Comments
I would say it is doing what it is supposed to do. No sag. I feel better knowing they are there and know they work.

Terrific product and great recommendation from the staff at etrailer. A year later I couldn't be happier, would highly recommend the product, but the website as well. I've now purchased several products and have been very satisfied.

by:
Chevrolet

I have had these for one year on my Chevy Traill Boss. Absolutely love and wouldn’t hesitate to install again. My truck suspension is softer than other Chevys and I hated the squat when carrying loads, even lighter ones (500lbs). With the sumo springs, it’s not an issue. My truck squats less with 1500lbs in the bed with them than it did with 500lbs without. Ride quality is unaffected. Install was extremely easy. Floor jack and basic hand tools took me 20 minutes max.

by:

Very easy to install. You don't notice they are there until you add load to your truck. Very impressed with this product. Simple upgrade which makes a big difference. Greatly appreciate etrailers recommendation.

by:

Easy to install. No sag, no sway, nice ride. Did exactly what I needed.

by:
Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Since I've installed the SumoSprings my 1500 doesn't sag in the back when I'm towing my trailer. They were very easy to install in less than 45 minutes. It actually wouldn't have taken me that long if I jacked up the passenger side higher. My only knock is the ride isn't as soft when not towing so that is my reason for not giving 5 stars.

by:

I installed this product on a 2020 Silverado 1500 HD crew cab 4x4... TRUCK doesn't sqaut or sag at all with 4,000 # trailer hooked up . Or weight in the bed 1200# ( quad n misc, camping equip. And still delivers an excellent 1/2 ton Chevy ride full or empty . 30 - 45 min install ...

by:

My truck now bottoms out anytime someone is riding in the back seat. Very rough ride on a truck that was very smooth with the OEM bump stops.

Comments
This sounds like something is not right with this kit. I will email you the warranty number for SuperSprings.

by:

Absolutely worth the money! Easy to install and works just as advertised!

by:

No change in ride with no load.
Not
nearly as much squat with 4700LB/750-HW.
I had to lower the ball height on the truck 1 1/2 inches because
the trailer was no longer level (high in front)
The ride was firmer with the trailer attached.

by:

I put these on to help with towing sag pulling a Travel Trailer. They did help but I did not like the ride made it to ruff when hitting ruff road like pot holes or the bump going on to a bridge. So I took them off and put on a set of Roadmaster active suspension. And I like them much better great ride with them towing and when not towing. So if you want a quick fix at a budget price go with the Sumo Springs if you want a good ride spend the extra and get the RAS.

by:

Easy to install, worked as intended. I used the spacer to have less sag.

by:

Work great and give a nice gradual response as apposed to sharp jolts.

2021 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Great Looking Product that is simple to install.
2021 1500 Silverado Crew 4x4 3.0 Duramax.
Installed yesterday but haven't towed with it yet. I did dive it today about 150 miles and truck rides just as it did before installing the Sumo's.
Hoping it will help level and stabilize our truck while towing our 2020 Flagstaff FKS25. Having the Sumo's 2800 springs installed, in conjunction with our Kurt Equalizing Hitch, we are hoping for a smooth, stable, sway free season.

Only thing I would ask Sumo is " why do you include the extra spacers for standard sprung 1500's. I know that the spacers will be needed for Trail Boss 1500's but why make the rest of us have to pay for the spacers which we may never need? Thinking a separate part number for a Trail Boss application or 1500's with 2" life kits would be in order.

by:

Great product. Leveled off the truck bed under load, would highly recommend them.

by:

Work good easy to install. Would get them again

by:
GMC Sierra

These Sumo springs arrived quickly, and were very easy to install. They look like a high quality product. I put them on my 2020 GMC Sierra 1500 in about 1/2 hour. I purchased these for extra support when pulling my 5th wheel and this weekend I plan to try them out.

by:

Delivery and service was fast. Product is great as well. Thanks.

by:

I think these were the perfect choice for my application. I like to say from light hauling to towing my RV they keep my suspension firm.

by:

Order process was quick and very easy. Excellent package tracking and they even followed up to make sure my order was received and I had no other concerns! Great prices and fantastic service, who could ask for more. Highly recommend etrailer!

by:

Easy installation. Will be hooking up trailer soon and determine if the ride height and quality has improved. Additional spacer is available if needed to decrease the ride height.

by:

Cap screws included are to short. That made it difficult to get them started into the pickup frame.

  • Best Option for Addressing a Squatting Rear End on a 2016 Chevy Silverado 1500
SumoSprings would definitely be the solution I would recommend for your squatting concern. The SumoSprings Solo Custom Helper Springs - Rear Axle item # SS45MR have a 2,800 lbs capacity which would eliminate that carolina lift look you get when your bed is loaded. These springs have progressive load control, which means that the springs compress according to the weight of your cargo. If you're not towing or hauling you won't notice a difference unless you hit a pretty big bump. The leveling...

  • Will the SuperSprings Sumo Springs SSR-209-54 Also Fit on a 2020 Chevy Silverado 1500
I checked with my contact over at SuperSprings and he tells me that the SumoSprings Solo Custom Helper Springs SSR-209-54 you mentioned- part # SS45MR -is not specifically designed for the new body style of the 2020 Chevy Silverado 1500 but will fit. This was also confirmed by our install team that it can be installed on your 2020 Silverado 1500; it's just not designed specifically for this truck as the # SS45FR and # SS65FR are. • Is There Supposed to be a Gap After the SumoSprings are Installed on a 2020 Silverado 1500
The SumoSprings Solo Custom Helper Springs, part # SS45FR, for the 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 are meant to have that 1-1/2" gap when there is no load. This is to ensure that the ride isn't stiff while unloaded. Adding spacers would negate that benefit. It sounds like you have installed them exactly as they need to be. I've linked to a video review of these springs below.

Since your trailer is about 5000lbs meaning your tongue weight is between 500-750lbs, and you are adding an additional 400lbs to the bed of your truck you are adding around 1150lbs to the rear of your 2021 Chevrolet Silverado RST Z71 4x4. With that number in mind, I recommend the SumoSprings Solo Custom Helper Springs # SS45FR which offers 1500lbs of support which is perfect for the weight you mentioned. The SumoSprings Solo Custom Helper Springs I recommend for a 2020 GMC Sierra 1500 is part # SS45FR. They feature a simple bolt-on install so there should not be any issues. It looks like we have heard back from a few customers with a 2020 that there were no issues. I do see the review you speak of but I don't have any other examples of this issue so it would seem isolated.

  • Can SumoSpring for 2020 Chevy Silverado be Used with Weight Distribution
Yes you can use a weight distribution system with a suspension enhancement kit like the SumoSprings that you mentioned. The SumoSprings Solo Custom Helper Springs # SS45FR that fit your 2019 Chevy Silverado will not affect your unloaded ride quality essentially at all. There is a gap between the springs and the axle so the only time you may notice some slight stiffness is going over a pretty significant bump.
