Rear Suspension Support

Towing or hauling a heavy load can cause rear sag as your factory suspension compresses under the weight of the load. This means that the rear axle is trying to support not only the extra load but also the weight of your vehicle. And because there is less weight on your front axle, your front tires make less contact with the road, which causes problems with traction, steering, and braking. SumoSprings upgrade your vehicle's factory suspension to level your vehicle, improve driving performance, and keep your ride comfortable.

Installed spring when it is not compressed

SumoSprings provide progressive load control - the more you load them, the stiffer they become. With a lighter load, the springs will compress easily for soft engagement and a less bumpy ride. The closed-cell urethane material allows for smooth contact between the springs and your vehicle. And the springs act like a shock absorber to dampen road vibration.

Installed spring when it is compressed

The springs can also compress by as much as 80 percent to support a heavy rear load and to help your factory suspension bear up under the load. This evens out the weight, which levels your vehicle and ensures that your front tires are making better contact with the road. A level ride means that you have improved driving control, ensures safe headlight aim, and helps to minimize sway. The springs also support your factory suspension, which helps prevent sagging and reduces bottoming out.

The springs work independently from one another to support each side of your vehicle. This action helps to reduce body roll when you make a sharp turn. This also helps compensate for an off-center load.

Durable, Custom-Fit Springs

These microcellular urethane springs are tough. They resist abrasion, oil, salt, and UV rays that can more quickly wear out other springs, and they perform well in temperatures ranging from -25 F to 200 F (-33 C to 93 C).

SumoSprings compress vertically with minimum expansion to the sides, so they won't be damaged by nearby mechanical parts and they fit safely into tighter spots. And unlike air springs, SumoSprings require no maintenance or adjustment.

The helper springs are custom designed to fit your vehicle, and they install easily - no drilling required.

I have a Ram 1500 with a soft side slide-in camper. The SumoSprings reduced squat and eliminated sway. Exactly what I needed.

by:

It takes a little while to install them but they work great. No sag when hauling my trailer.

by:
2018 Ram 1500

When installing the springs I discovered that one of the mounting plates (1 out of 4) had 2 of the holes missed drilled and was unable to install. I had to send back to etrailer.

Sorry to hear about this defect. I see in your account that the manufacturer has provided you with a new mounting plate.

by:
2014 Ram 1500

took about 45 mins to a hour to install mostly because of bolt up other wise probably 30 min install if bolt up was not in such a tight location. I did leave out the spacers which left me with about a 1 inch gap where as I had about 3 before install with OEM bump stops. I have not loaded a trailer on my truck yet but I did load around a 1000lb bail of hay right after install into the bed and you could not really see a drop in the back. Moment of truth will be when I load my travel travel which is the main reason I bought these due to sag. 2014 Ram 1500 4x4

by:

Did exactly as advertised. RV trailer rides smoother, headlights arent' blinding oncoming traffic because of lifting the front end. Excellent product.

by:
Dodge Ram Pickup

One year in, they are still terrific and make a world of improvement in the Ram spring suspension when towing.

Even our friends that follow us when traveling commented how much more stable our trailering is.

by:

I rated Smo Spring at 5-excellent. They made towing my 30' camper so much easier as it the truck doesn't bounce as much. I dis add the preload disk and when empty, my truck rode just a little rougher, but to me it was a small price to pay for safer towing

by:

Great product. Cured the sagging problem with my truck while towing my trailer.

Its working great. Leveled the truck and trailer perfectly.

by:

Springs are great work as advertised

by:

At first SumoSprings worked well. I drove to Arizona pulling a 21 ft camper and stayed for six weeks. I stayed at several camp sites. I notice my truck was higher on the passenger rear side and the truck was slightly swaying when driving. I looked under the truck and saw that the rear driver SumoSpring was gone. I removed the the other SumoSpring and found that it was smashed on one side. I installed the Firestone coil-Rite air helper springs on 3/30/2023.

by:
Dodge Ram Pickup

Really happy with the Sumo's on my 1/2 ton Ram. The stock Ram coil springs are a comfy ride and without the spacers that is maintained. Under a load the truck handles much better with a trailer or cargo. Installation was really easy and no maintenance is why I chose these over some other air springs.

by:

Why did choose the SUMO springs? I considered: Timbren, and several airbags and the SUMO springs. After all, I decided maintenance free is my highest priority therefore, the airbags fell of the list. I chose SUMO over Timbren. The Timbren are a bit shorter than the Sumo springs that means they engage later / under higher load. Moreover, the Timbren are rated for ~5000 lbs that means they are very stiff. I expect the Sumo springs to meet my needs: they engage early and add ~ 1500 lbs which should be sufficient if the truck tows a trailer with a hitch weight of ~600 lbs.
Pros:
- very simple to install - no special tools or setup required
- parts fit well
- top quality
Cons:
- price vs competition
Installation in hour or so on my drive way. On the RAM 2019 (new style) removing the OEM bumpers was easy - just wiggle them out with your hand. For the installation of Sumo helper springs it is helpful to use a 13mm a Ratcheting Combination Wrench. That will speed up to tighten the 8 nuts per spring. You still can use just a regular 13 mm combination wrench.
Now what is the result of the springs? So far, I used the truck without hitch load. The springs engage early. The ride without load is a bit stiffer than before. The real test will be once I hock up the trailer. The trailer has a hitch weight of ~600lbs. Stay tuned.

by:
2022 Dodge Ram Pickup

I received them on time. They appear to be good quality. Install was fairly easy, I recommend using a rachet wrench. The fit is good. I'll see how they work towing a trailer over the next couple days. My install was on a 2022 Ram 1500.

by:
2015 Dodge Ram Pickup

On a 2015 Ram 1500. The Sumo springs work great. I went from a loaded ride height of 35 inches to 36 1/4 inches. But the real improvement is in the ride. No longer have the squishy rear end wobble that I used to have. Combined with my weight distributing hitch my ride height improves to 37 1/2 inches. Truck is level along with my travel trailer. When I'm not loaded I don't even notice that I did anything. Still rides like factory. My only complaint is in the installation. Eight nuts with washers per spring and there is no space at all on multiple nuts to fit a so met or even a ratcheting wrench. Took about an hour in my driveway. Other than this minor inconvenience, I have to say excellent product.

by:

They are fine when pulling a trailer, help with squat well. However when not pulling the springs sit very close to the axle causing a hard ride especially on rough roads or pot holes.

by:
Dodge Ram Pickup

I pull a 24 ft trailer w/ one slide out. It weighs roughly 5K (more loaded). My RAM 1500 is well balanced for the tongue weight and , of course, when not pulling, the truck drives as if the sumos were not there-which they are NOT when the weight comes off. I have noticeably more control overall. Glad to have purchased these.

They were installed by Dodge dealership--no issues. A great product.

by:
2015 Ram 1500

I should of gotten airbags.
I bought
these in hope of making towing my camper feel more stable and I was let down big time. These did not help in towing and in fact made towing worse. I had a neighbor that thought these were awesome when he got them for his truck but he has also since gone with air bags. My truck didn't handle very well with or without towing and I had to remove them.
I still do not have air bags but I also haven't had time to camp. So, once camping picks back up I will be buying air bags.

by:

The SuperSpring Solo work as advertised. They definitely help level the load when pulling my 27' camper. My only complaint is that they fit so tight (1/4" gap) between the bottom of the SuperSpring and the axle that as soon you load anything you are already using the SuperSpring. I would have preferred a little more of the oem suspension for day to day driving.

by:
2016 Ram 1500

Quality product install was simple and straight forward. Would have given it 5 stars except I installed the 1inch spacers included in the kit. Made the Sumo spring touch the axle immediately with no load. Did not see in the instructions were the 1inch spacer was optional. Without the spacer the Sumo spring is roughly 1/2 to 3/8 from the axle with no load. I do think if you have a leveling kit or lift, the spacer would be a good idea it is nice that the kit comes with the option.

by:
Dodge Ram Pickup

The Sumo Springs worked as advertised. Installed them on a 2021 Ram 1500 Big Horn 4x4. I had to install them with a wrench, the socket set didn’t have enough clearance. Took a little bit of time and patience but got them installed. I pull a travel trailer with a 600 lb tongue weight. Towing the trailer was smoother and dampened the rear bouncing when going over rough spots on the road. I would recommend this product.

by:

A year later the SumoSprings did exactly as advertised. I am pleased with the product and the service I received from Etrailer

by:
Dodge Ram Pickup

This product does what it says it will do. One of the issues that I have is the difficulty to install this product. The 2020 Ram 1500 on the passengers side has a stabilizing bar that interferes installing all the nuts on the rear of the mounting plate spring. My truck supposedly has a 1 inch lift from the factory (Big Horn North Edition). I used the plastic extension as recommended in the installation instructions and even with the 1 inch factory lift, using the plastic spacer makes the spring rest on the rear axle with no load in the truck. I'd recommend to not install with the plastic spacer. The ride is much stiffer but I'm OK with that as when my trailer is attached the ride is as expected.

by:

They are great I pull fifth wheel around and lot of bumper pull trailers and they have been a life saver when comes to steering and handling the heavy loads

by:

Assembly went very well. I used the spacer and it actually raised the truck 1/2". After the camper was attached, the rear-end only dropped 3",much better than the 6 to 7" before.

by:
Dodge Ram Pickup

They definitely stiffen the suspension on this ‘22 Ram 1500. I used the 1” extension plate and will try it out pulling my aluminum horse trailer with 1 horse. I may remove the extension if the stuff ride gets uncomfortable.
A couple of bolts were hard to get to. Took about 2 hours and some cussing to install.

Thanks for the picture! For your 2021 Ram 1500 I recommend the SumoSprings Solo Custom Helper Springs item # SSR-307-47 over an air bag system. When you are not towing or loaded down you won't notice they are installed. Under a heavy load these springs will compress by as much as 80% to support your suspension and keep your truck...

The best part you can add to your 2021 Ram 1500 Bighorn for towing a 30' travel trailer is the Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution System # EQ37120ET. This hitch system will not only allow you to redistribute the tongue weight evenly across your Ram and reduce sag but will also add sway prevention to make driving safer. The large surface area on the side of the travel trailer makes it more likely to encounter sway caused by strong winds. This hitch is rated for a trailer with a tongue weight...
