An example of sag on a truck's rear axle under a heavy load. The Timbren Suspension Enhancement System levels the vehicle.

When hauling heavy loads in the cargo area or by pulling a trailer, you will often see the rear of the vehicle sag while the front end rises. In these cases, the rear axle is handling not only the weight of the cargo, but more of the vehicle's weight as well. Because less weight is on the front axle, the front tires are making less contact with the road. Overall vehicle handling - traction, steering, and braking - is negatively affected. The resistance from Timbren's Suspension Enhancement System works with the vehicle's factory suspension to keep the vehicle level and improve your driving performance.

Diagram of the Timbren spring installed

The Timbren system has a vehicle-specific bracket that will be bolted onto each frame rail above the rear axle. Hollow rubber springs are bolted to the bottom of the bracket and hang down to where the bottom of the spring sits one inch above the axle. The inch of clearance allows the existing factory suspension to operate normally under light loads and standard terrain, ensuring the smooth, comfortable ride you are used to.

Animation of a standard Timbren rubber spring

Timbren Suspension Enhancement Systems are designed to work progressively. When the hollow rubber springs are compressed, the convoluted design causes them to quickly collapse along the folds. Once the folds are compacted, the stacked barrel shape provides increased resistance, stiffening the suspension and keeping the vehicle level.

Timbren suspension system works to prevent body roll

Each hollow rubber spring works independently to support the driver's or passenger's side of the vehicle. This is helpful when you swerve or make sharp turns. Each spring is activated when it is needed, so body roll is greatly reduced. The independent action also works well when hauling off-center loads.

An example of a trailers swaying

Because the vehicle handles better with the springs, less turbulence will be passed along to the trailer helping to keep the trailer in line. Your driving comfort is further enhanced if the trailer does begin to sway (from a gust of wind or passing of a semi) because the movement from the trailer is not transferred to the vehicle. This also works to make the sway subside quicker.

An empty truck on a bumpy road without Timbren

Another great feature of the rubber construction is that the springs absorb most of the road shock, creating a smoother, more stable ride overall. Wear and tear on the factory suspension is also lessened as the rubber springs work to prevent bottoming out on rough roads.

Compared to the competition:

Timbren's suspension enhancement systems are much easier to install than air springs - no air hoses are needed to be run, no compressors or gauges to hook up, and no manual adjustments necessary. The rubber construction causes Timbren's springs to be more elastic than similar products constructed of micro-cellular urethane. More elasticity allows for a more comfortable ride because the rubber has more travel.

Dodge Ram Pickup

2022 Ram 3500, 30 minute install time, great product. Hooked up camper without sway bars and only squat 3/4 inch, where before 4 to 5 inches. Recieved product in 3 days with etrailer staff sending me numerous emails. Great job to etrailer staff. Thanks

The installed very easily and without incident. However, after the first outing (about 1000 mi on paved roads) the ride quality proved to terrible that I removed them. They solved the sway problem I had but rear suspension rebound was so harsh I was afraid the truck frame was likely to be damaged. It was like having no suspension at all in the rear.

Very good quality and took less than 30 minutes to install. I tow bumper pull RV's and a 5th wheel. Can't wait to tow 1 and see how it works.

Works great. I also have 1 on a 99 2500 Silverado. Thats why I purchased this one. You dont know you have it until you hook up a trailer or load something in the pickup. Then it just works. I will definitely continue to purchase one with each pickup I purchase.

Easy installation in about 40 minutes. On heavy truck with dump body and hoist the install has no gap between SES and axle. This is not effecting the empty ride and should definitely improve the stock suspension sag when loaded. Very happy!

2016 Dodge Ram Pickup

So I recently had two product purchases from etrailer, my Timbren load suspension upgrade and my truck bed camper frame mounted hold-downs, both to be installed on my 2016 3500 Ram. The installation and performance of both of these products went very well. I received great phone support from etrailer operators, as my buddy and I have in the past. It was my buddie Mikie who originally recommended your Company from numerous purchases he has made with you.

the product was very easy to install, but I was very dissatisfied with the ride of the truck after installing. The rubber distorted and there was almost metal contact with the bolt holding the spacers in place with the real axle housing. We have replaced your product with an air ride suspension which I am extremely happy with. I would not recommend this product to be used.

Didn't come close to needing the rubber discs that come in kit. Kind of a waste as these are somewhat expensive. What I used of kit seems to work fine.

Arrived early, thank you.

Very knowledgeable and helpful with my purchase. Followed up to make sure everything was fine. Great experince.

It looks like the product I received was used. Not too excited about that.

Customer Service will reach out to you.

  • Rear Suspension Enhancement Recommendation for 2016 Ram 3500 Towing 25k Trailer
For the amount of weight you are towing with your 2016 Ram 3500 I would recommend the heavy duty Timbren kit for your truck part # T94VR. This will provide up to 12k of additional suspension support which will help your truck that is pretty near it's towing capacity. This won't give you additional capacity beyond what you truck is rated for, but it will help with the sag quite a bit.

The warranty on the Timbren Vehicle Suspension, # T94VR, is limited lifetime warranty. The parts are warranted against defects in workmanship and materials, under normal use and service, for the life of the vehicle on which the kit was originally installed. Severe use vehicles like tow trucks, dump trucks, and snowplow trucks have a 5-year or 250,000 mile warranty. The warranty is only on parts it does not include shipping or labor. • What is the Difference Between my Payload/Cargo Capacity and Towing Capacity
There seems to be a bit of confusion here, which I'll try to clear up. There are 3 main capacities related to the weight your vehicle can handle that you generally want to know; your payload (cargo) capacity and towing capacity are going to be two different ratings, and your truck will also have a combined weight rating (GCWR) which is the maximum combined weight of the truck, payload (cargo) and trailer. From what I was able to find with my research, the 2012 Ram 2500 with the 6.7L Diesel...

  • Does the Pin Weight of a 5th Wheel Trailer Count Towards the Payload Capacity
You're correct that the pin weight of your trailer is going to take away from the payload capacity, since that weight is going to be over or slightly forward of the rear axle of your truck and also correct that it is typically around 18- 20% of the GVWR of the trailer. The payload also gives you 150-lbs that is not considered (the average male driver) so it's technically 150-lbs more than what it says. If you have a 10000-lb trailer, the tongue weight should be around 1800-2000-lbs (you...

  • Recommendation for Suspension Enhancement on a 2015 Ram 3500 4x4
Great question. Suspension Enhancement Sytems (SES) are intended to assist suspension in good working condition, but will not correct any bowing in your axle or increase the towing capacity of your vehicle. Assuming your vehicle suspension is in good shape and your vehicle and hitch are rated to carry the 25,000 pounds, you would definitely benefit by adding an SES. Both the Timbren SES and the Firestone Ride-Rite Air Helper Springs are similar in that they both use convoluted springs to...

  • Height of Timbren Rear Suspension Enhancement System T94VR For 2015 Ram 3500 Cab & Chassis
I checked with Timbren, and these come with a 1 inch spacer, so with the spacer, the height of the kit Timbren Rear Suspension Enhancement System # T94VR is 7-1/4 inches; without the spacer it measures 6-1/4 inches. You mentioned having 6 inches, and I'm not sure if you meant 6.25, but the # T94VR do require at least 1/2 inch of space under them so they would seem to be too big for your 2015 Ram 3500 cab and chassis. • Helper Springs for a 2014 Ram 2500 Diesel with 5th Wheel Prep Package
For a 2014 Ram 2500 the only Timbren system that is listed is # TDR2500D. The other one you mentioned, # T94VR, is designed for 3500 models and is rated much higher that you would need at 12,000 pounds. System # TDR2500D is rated for 8,600 pounds but considering that the pin weight of the trailer will be much lower than this that 8,600 pounds is more than enough. The springs install on the bottoms of the truck frame rails so they will not interfere with the 5th wheel prep package on your truck.

  • Timbren Helper Spring Recommendations for a 2017 Ram 3500 4x4 Diesel Short Bed
I will be happy to help with some rear helper springs for your 2017 Ram 3500 4x4 diesel short bed. First, for your application (towing a 5th wheel trailer) I do recommend going with Timbren springs rather than air bags since Timbren springs do not require maintenance or for you to add/remove air from air bags. But air bags are superior in other ways including having the ability to level the bed side to side and adjust the ride quality to be more or less stiff. For Timbren springs that...

Yes, the Timbren Rear Suspension Enhancement System, # T94VR will enhance your current suspension reducing the body roll you are currently experiencing. With the Timbren Suspension Enhancement System, each hollow rubber spring works independently to support the driver's or passenger's side of the vehicle.
