An example of sag on a truck's rear axle under a heavy load. The Timbren Suspension Enhancement System levels the vehicle.

Whether you're hauling heavy loads in the cargo area or by pulling a trailer, you will often see the rear sag while the front end rises. In these cases, the rear axle is handling not only the weight of the cargo, but more of the truck's weight, as well. Because less weight is on the front axle, the front tires are making less contact with the road. Overall handling - traction, steering, and braking - is negatively affected. But the resistance from Timbren's Suspension Enhancement System works with your factory suspension to keep your vehicle level and improve your driving experience.

Diagram of the Timbren spring installed

The Timbren system has a custom-fit bracket that will be bolted onto each frame rail above the rear axle. Hollow rubber springs are bolted to the bottom of the bracket and hang down to where the bottom of the spring sits, one inch above the axle. The inch of clearance allows the existing factory suspension to operate normally under light loads and standard terrain, ensuring the smooth, comfortable ride that you are used to.

Animation of a standard Timbren rubber spring

Timbren Suspension Enhancement Systems are designed to work progressively. When the hollow rubber springs are compressed, the convoluted design causes them to quickly collapse along the folds. Once the folds are compacted, the stacked barrel shape increases resistance, stiffening the suspension and keeping the truck level.

Timbren suspension system works to prevent body roll

Each hollow rubber spring works independently to support the driver's or passenger's side of your vehicle. This is helpful when you swerve or make sharp turns. Each spring is activated when it is needed, so body roll is greatly reduced. The independent action also works well when you are hauling off-center loads.

An example of a trailers swaying

Because the vehicle handles better with the springs, less turbulence will be passed along to the trailer, and this helps to keep the trailer in line. Your driving comfort is further enhanced if the trailer does begin to sway (from a gust of wind or a passing semi), because the movement from the trailer is not transferred to the truck. This also works to make the sway subside more quickly.

An empty truck on a bumpy road without Timbren

Another great feature of the rubber construction is that the springs absorb most of the road shock, creating a smoother, more stable ride overall. Wear and tear on the factory suspension is also lessened because the rubber springs work to prevent bottoming out on rough roads.

Compared to the Competition

Timbren's suspension enhancement systems are much easier to install than air springs - there are no air hoses to run, no compressors or gauges to hook up, and no manual adjustments to make. The rubber construction makes Timbren's springs more elastic than similar products constructed of microcellular urethane. And more elasticity allows for a more comfortable ride because the rubber has more travel.

Great addition to my 2018 ram 1500 I also installed Bilstein 5100 shocks and heavy duty coil springs along with the bump stops

The fork lift operator couldn't reach far enough to center them over my axle, but it didn't matter, because I installed air lift air springs and the Timbren bump stop spring enhancements. I can't believe how well they performed together. It was only a short trip with this load, and I'd never haul this heavy of a payload in a 1500 unless it was a short trip, but it wouldn't have been an option without these enhancements. The fork lift driver was even impressed. He asked me what I was using. These products kick serious ass! AMAZING!

2020 Ram 1500 Classic

Excellent product, very easy to install. It raised the hitch of my 2020 Ram Classic 1500, 2 1/2 inches with the bed loaded and connected to my Coachmen 34 foot Freedom Express Ultralite. I ordered the product while I was away camping and it had arrived when I got back. I installed them while still connected to my camper before it was unloaded. I’m pleased.

2019 Dodge Ram Pickup

2019 Ram 1500, 5.7: After reading multiple reviews on this product versus the air bag things that go inside the coil springs for my I went with this. I just finished a 300 mile trip with my 23' travel trailer and couldn't be happier. Though the trailer isn't super heavy I didn't like the way it made the Ram squat. Adding this system eliminated that, and improved the handling. Driving without a load isn't bad either. I noticed it a few times when going over large dips/bumps at higher speed, but it isn't a problem for me. Highly recommended.

They installed just as described, and they work just as described. I have hauled dirt, sand, and pulled trailers since installing the Timbrens, and I am no longer trying to spotlight squirrels in the trees. I agree with the review I read while I was shopping, "why are these not original equipment for these trucks?"

They still work great! The truck stays level when hauling and towing. I am very pleased with this product.

2013 Dodge Ram Pickup

These "enhanced" bump-stops have definitely improved the ride quality of my 2013 Ram 1500 quad cab when pulling our 7500 lb. 29 foot travel trailer. The trailer probably has 500+ pounds of food, clothes, kids toys, etc inside as well. The truck bed probably has another 800'ish pounds of equipment in it that compresses the suspension before I even hook the trailer up. With the stock stops the rear suspension hardly moved. After adding the new stops, the rear suspension had travel again and the steering felt less twitchy.

Unloaded truck will hit the new stops only if I hit a pretty harsh bump but it's only noticeable if you're paying attention to it. With a loaded bed (no trailer) hitting the stops is more noticeable but you still need to hit a decent bump for them to touch.

They are very easy to install. Take the time to read the instructions and watch the installation video before you pay someone $50-$75 for a 15-20 minute job.

I would buy them again.

The bump-stops have been excellent. Absolutely worth the money.

2012 Dodge Ram Pickup

I have attached the Timbren product to my 2012 Dodge Ram and am very impressed with the product. etrailer answered my question that I needed to know if the Timbren product would take the squat out of my truck when I hook up my 5th wheel rv. The proof is in the attached pictures I took to share with you and potential customers. Your customer service & product knowledge is outstanding and that is why I am a faithful customer. As far as the installation of the product, I could not find an easier thing to do....It's harder to change a light bulb! Of course your installation video was very informative which made things a lot easier.

Helped make my decision a no brainer....thanks for the pics they sealed the deal.
-- comment by: James T - 06/14/2013
Fantastic....The truck drives like a dream! If and when I hit any potholes or bumps, of course you still feel them, but the control is there with no fish tailing. As far as pulling my 5th wheel, it feels like everything is one unit and floats right along!
Ron L - 05/10/2014
thanks Ron. Great information and you helped me with my decision.
-- comment by: Mike L - 12/28/2014
Very good illustration and explanation. I have a 5th wheel and am experiencing the squat problem. Question: Is the installation strictly a friction fit or do I have to install a bolt with nut?
-- comment by: John T - 05/09/2015

For John T. They are a friction fit, installed mine in less than 15 min. Slight harder ride when unloaded, but they work perfectly for carrying the load of the trailer. Highly recommend.
-- comment by: Tony O - 05/27/2015

Ive been debating pulling a fifth wheel with a 1500. What size trailer do you have? What is the weight and pin weight, if you dont mind me asking?
-- comment by: Travis - 03/15/2016

It did exactly what I needed to do. I had really bad chassis roll and soft suspension in the rear of my truck. This eliminated the issue and gave me a stronger ride in the rear.

I have been carrying an 80 gallon fuel tank tools and equipment with my pick up. Constant weight on the bump stops. There is some wear between the components of the bump stop but they are still solid.
Casey - 11/06/2021

I replaced the oem bumper stops with these because I was pulling a travel trailer with it at times and the pickup was squatting down more than I liked thinking these would be better and they do keep the pickup more level with a load on it. The problem is with no load there is not enough clearance between the stops and the frame, also the dodge ram has a sloped bracket that the bigger stop hits first making it a stiff ride with no load.

Thank you for the review! A solution for you would be getting air springs instead of the Timbrens. Air springs can be inflated and deflated as you need and so when you are not needing the extra suspension, you have the ability to deflate the air without having to install and uninstall springs like the Timbrens. If you combine the wireless compressor with the airbags, that would be an easier install for you as there would not be airlines that would need to be run through the cab as the compressor would be Blue Tooth controlled. I have attached links to both the compressor and the air springs.
-- Etrailer Expert Brooke M - 09/21/2021

Stops truck from sitting on its but with even modest amounts of tongue weight. However rude quality is the trade off. Trucks bounced like a buckboard even at slightest bumps when unloaded.

Timbrens eliminate most of the rear sag when loaded, but the ride is rough without a load because the spring is constantly engaged. I think that an air system like item # AL60818
Air Lift 1000 Air Helper Springs for Coil Springs - Rear
for your 2017 Ram 1500 would be the best option for you for the highest quality ride with and without a load.

Dodge Ram Pickup

Excellent product. Obviously, easy install. We have a 4x4 Ram pickup. We pull a light trailer so the truck springs handle most of the weight. However, we’ve hit the “stops” a couple of times. Solid, as advertised. After 1 year install, very pleased.

These are a simple to install and a great fix for a saggy butt while trailering. Certainly helps improve tracking and steering.

Love my Timbrens! It gives my truck and travel trailer the perfect amount of stability without the squat.

We use them for hauling a travel trailer to eliminate squat along with equalizer bars and they do the job.

Really easy and simple to install! The ride support, hauling, and especially when towing my cargo trailer, and when towing my travel trailer was very noticeable. There was definitely not as much sway and my pickup rode flat, the tail end didn’t dip at all. I was looking at purchasing a soft ride air suspension system for over a thousand dollars and this saved me money to use for other needs. Plus I didn’t need to drill any holes in my bumper or bed to accommodate any air inlets. I have over 20 thousand miles since I installed them a year ago, and they’re still working like the first day they were installed. If these ever wear out, I could replace them over 5 times for the cost of an air suspension system, and in a whole lot less time or work needed. Family members have installed them on their trucks and are glad I let them know about them and the time and expensive they were saved.

2017 Ram 1500

Purchased to help my suspension when pulling around my 2 horse BP trailer. Tested them out the day I installed them with a 16' dump trailer (which is too much trailer for my 1/2 ton). Took a 20 mile ride on the highway and some in rough shape back county roads (to test the ride and to make sure I seated the Timbren in securely). I am super impressed. They preformed as advertised and my truck sits level. The ride is much better with the load and I love how it doesn't affect my ride when not loaded.

I change my own oil and headlights but that is about as far as my mechanic skills go. They were super easy to install. It took me more time to take the tire on and off than to remove and install these. I watched an installation video, used two small blocks of wood to seat them, probably 30 minutes of my time. Would definitely recommend this product.

2011 Dodge Ram Pickup

A heavy workload on a Ram 1500 will cause the truck to squat with just 1 inch of clearance in the wheel-well. The stock suspension is soft and it feels precarious when under load.

I would not say that Ram dropped the ball on their suspension since many of their 1500 customers do not load the truck down to use it to its rated capacity and the soft ride appeals to a large segment of drivers who cannot find it in other trucks. However, it seems that the Timbren bump stops are what should be on the truck if you are not getting a 2500 or 3500 but need to tow and haul.

The Timbren rear enhancement system immediately improves the handling on the Ram 1500 and stands up even when placing it under load. It is almost like buying a whole new truck. I cannot compliment this product enough and I am extremely pleased with how the truck handles both loaded and unloaded. It is not too stiff and it does not feel bumpy like other enhancements might. But it feels sturdy and the truck feels stronger almost right away.

I could have gone with a different distributor for these parts but is more than just a distributor. You can find official videos on most of their products which will give you honest information on their products and explain how to install and use those products. If you have a question, you will get a reply from them with an expert on the subject. They are interested in finding you solutions first and the sales are just a byproduct from their expertise. I did not find these parts cheaper anywhere else, but I still would have gone with even if they cost a little more. I chose because I know I can trust them to get me the good stuff.

2012 Dodge Ram Pickup

I have installed the Timbren SES on my 2012 Ram 1500. Total time including removal of OEM bumpers was 45 minutes. I added a preliminary step to the installation procedures. I cleaned the receptacle where the OEM bumper was located to remove the dirt and residue. That made the new parts slide into position easily. I used a small wood block as suggested to ensure complete seating of the new bumpers. They fit perfectly. I have approximately 1.25" of clearance between the bumpers and the rest. Can't wait to get my trailer hooked up to see how they perform.
Excellent service as always from etrailer!

2016 Dodge Ram Pickup

To say I'm very happy with this product is an understatement. First off, shipping was fast and the communication from George was top notch. Secondly, installation was as easy as it gets. Find a safe, flat area to jack your truck up by the frame (this creates space between the factory bump stops and the axle) then remove the factory bump stops. You may need a flat head screw driver for this to pry the old bumps stops out (easy)...
insert the new Timbren Suspension System...a 6 inch long 2x4 would be helpful here....safely place the 2x4 atop the axle directly under the Timbren system, then slowly lower the vehicle. The weight of the vehicle will force the Timbren system up into the receiving end and this should complete the install.
It took me longer to dig out my floor jack, cut a small piece of 2x4, then installing the Timbren system.
Lastly, I immediately hooked up my camper a 24' (27' all in) Forest River and instantly saw my 2016 RAM leveled out. I have a 3 hr trip planned in the coming weeks and will offer some feedback on the ride with this new Timbren system in place. Pretty impressed thus far

2010 Dodge Ram Pickup

Item just arrived today, not installed yet on vehicle because new truck has NOT arrived for pick-up at dealer. Please note however, that this will be my third Ram truck and I had them on the last two Rams. I had them installed on the second truck within 10 days of taking delivery. Trailering or not, these bump stops are "excellent" for extending the life of the shocks, preventing sway under load, and keeping the load level (in my experience). Only regret is that I did NOT learn of them until the first Ram I used them on was already two (2) years old!

Dodge Ram Pickup

These are good for what they are used for. The ram 1500 rear coils just make is sag too much. These really hold a load for towing and pay load . My only complaint is it does make tbe truck ride very rough and every once in a while even with the truck unloaded you do feel them. However if you push your 1/2 ton truck further than you should like I do these are great to have

Dodge Ram Pickup

I put these on my 14' Ram 1500 that has Mopar 2.5'' lift system. It took me longer to crawl under the truck than it did to pull off stock bump stops and install the rubber shocks. A little bit of soapy water and they slid right on. No need to jack up truck or use of any tools. Pulled 16' bumper pull stock trailer loaded down the same day and was very pleased with the elimination of bounce from the rear. Rams have coils in the rear that make the truck drive like a dream empty, but bouncy as heck pulling a trailer. I recommend this product to anyone with a Ram. Boots sit about 1.5'' above axel so still get same smooth ride when empty and support when you put on a load.

Still holding strong on my 1500. I have enjoyed the system so much I will be ordering one for my 2017 Ram 2500

Installed these to stay away from the cost of Airbags on my 2019 Dodge Ram Classic, towed Camping trailer with them for the 1st time and i am very pleased with this product. A little bouncy at times depending on road conditions but over all these timbrens kept my tow vehicle level with trailer and no Sag, installed in 20 minutes! Easy Peasy

2019 Ram 1500 Classic

Very easy to install took about 30 minutes. If it manages the weight of my trailer I will be more impressed with your product.

The installation was easy, the product is outstanding, makes towing my trailer a dream

With Timbren Suspension Enhancement # TDR1500DQ installed in your 2014 Ram 1500 there will be a slight gap between the bottom of the springs and the axle so the unloaded ride height of the truck will be the same. Take a look at the picture I have included. I have also linked a video showing an example installation.

  • Installation Of Timbren Rear Suspension Enhancement System On 2016 Ram 1500 Truck
I have attached a link to an installation video of the Timbren Rear Suspension Enhancement System, part # TDR1500DQ on a 2014 Ram 1500 that would be the same for your 2016. Installing this system will not affect the ride of your truck when it is empty as it becomes more rigid when thetruck is carrying heavy loads. The nice thing about this system is that it works independently if you are carrying...

  • Jounce Spring Kit for Lowered 2015 Ram 1500 Sport
Lifted and dropped trucks are not ideal for towing since the height change can affect how level the hitched trailer can be and also the amount of rear-end squat you have from the trailer's tongue weight. A set of rubber jounce springs like the Timbren kit # TDR1500DQ (which does NOT fit the regular cab version) will stiffen the rear suspension when it is under load but will not otherwise alter the ride height or ride quality. When you're not towing the kit will disengage and you won't even...

  • Should a Weight Distribution System Allow Rear Suspension of Dodge Ram to Sag
It sounds like your weight distribution system isn't rated high enough for the weight of your towing setup. A properly rated and adjusted system shouldn't still allow the rear suspension to sag. The best way to pick out a weight distribution system is to base it off of the loaded tongue weight of the setup when it is loaded and ready to tow. This figure also includes the weight of any cargo behind the rear axle of the tow vehicle. I attached a help article on determining tongue weight...

  • Will a Set of Timbrens Installed in a Truck Cause Weight Distribution System to Be Set Up Different
If you install a set of Timbrens on your 2015 Ram 1500 you will end up having to lighten up slightly on the spring bar tension. The reason is because the suspension will now be reinforced slightly which means the WD system wouldn't need to apply as much spring bar tension to level the setup. In most cases a properly rated and set up WD system will not require additional suspension enhancement. But you could also be wanting the Timbrens for heavy cargo in the bed of your truck and not for...
