An example of sag on a truck's rear axle under a heavy load. The Timbren Suspension Enhancement System levels the vehicle.

Whether you're hauling heavy loads in the cargo area or by pulling a trailer, you will often see the rear sag while the front end rises. In these cases, the rear axle is handling not only the weight of the cargo, but more of the truck's weight, as well. Because less weight is on the front axle, the front tires are making less contact with the road. Overall handling - traction, steering, and braking - is negatively affected. But the resistance from Timbren's Suspension Enhancement System works with your factory suspension to keep your vehicle level and improve your driving experience.

Diagram of the Timbren spring installed

The Timbren system has a custom-fit bracket that will be bolted onto each frame rail above the rear axle. Hollow rubber springs are bolted to the bottom of the bracket and hang down to where the bottom of the spring sits, one inch above the axle. The inch of clearance allows the existing factory suspension to operate normally under light loads and standard terrain, ensuring the smooth, comfortable ride that you are used to.

Animation of a standard Timbren rubber spring

Timbren Suspension Enhancement Systems are designed to work progressively. When the hollow rubber springs are compressed, the convoluted design causes them to quickly collapse along the folds. Once the folds are compacted, the stacked barrel shape increases resistance, stiffening the suspension and keeping the truck level.

Timbren suspension system works to prevent body roll

Each hollow rubber spring works independently to support the driver's or passenger's side of your vehicle. This is helpful when you swerve or make sharp turns. Each spring is activated when it is needed, so body roll is greatly reduced. The independent action also works well when you are hauling off-center loads.

An example of a trailers swaying

Because the vehicle handles better with the springs, less turbulence will be passed along to the trailer, and this helps to keep the trailer in line. Your driving comfort is further enhanced if the trailer does begin to sway (from a gust of wind or a passing semi), because the movement from the trailer is not transferred to the truck. This also works to make the sway subside more quickly.

An empty truck on a bumpy road without Timbren

Another great feature of the rubber construction is that the springs absorb most of the road shock, creating a smoother, more stable ride overall. Wear and tear on the factory suspension is also lessened because the rubber springs work to prevent bottoming out on rough roads.

Compared to the Competition

Timbren's suspension enhancement systems are much easier to install than air springs - there are no air hoses to run, no compressors or gauges to hook up, and no manual adjustments to make. The rubber construction makes Timbren's springs more elastic than similar products constructed of microcellular urethane. And more elasticity allows for a more comfortable ride because the rubber has more travel.

Ford F-250 Super Duty

The Timbren Rear Suspension Enhancement System was easy to install and works very well with our 5th Wheel attached. With no load in the bed of the truck (F250 Super Duty) the ride is a bit stiff, but with a load or with the 5th Wheel in tow the ride is very smooth and the Truck no longer dips in the back.

by:
2016 Ford F-250 Super Duty

After one year the Timbren Rear Suspension Enhancement System has performed as
advertised. My 2016 F-250 does NOT squat with the fifth wheel trailer attached and the ride quality with trailer attached has also improved. Springs arrived quickly and took about 30-40 minutes to install. Excellent Product for towing!!!

Product is in the third year of service and has performed flawlessly. Just a warning to everyone CHECK THE BOLTS!!!! I found one of them loose and vibrating while doing a pre-trip check!!

After a year these suspension supports have been put through the ultimate test from pulling a 35 foot bumper pull RV and a fully loaded 28ft car hauler not to mention all of the landscape supplies loaded in the bed of the truck. In all the situations I absolutely had no problems with sag or sway. With no load my truck had the same ride as factory. Very pleased.

2012 Ford F-250 Super Duty

I read the recommendation to another buyer and decided to try this product on my 2012 Ford F250 Superduty. I needed help for my 25' goose neck trailer. EASY to install. Worked perfectly with 15K of hay + 6K of trailer weight. The rear of the truck barely set down on the factory overload springs. Empty ride does not seem to be affected as the Timbren pads do not contact the overload stops.
Thanks for a perfect solution without great cost and installation hassle!

Still going strong even pulling a 38 foot fifth wheel toy hauler.

2016 Ford F-250 Super Duty

These may be a five rating, just put them on today so time will tell so I rated them a 4 for now, and the install was a bit of a pain as a result of short bolts. After installation, my F250 Super Duty 4x4 (no lift) has about ½” between the frame and the Timbren SES bump stop. Took me about 1.5 hours to install both sides. Taking off the old bump stock while not complicated was a bit of a chore. But a little muscle and time and they came off.

I did encounter an issue which certainly elongated the install time. The two bolts (long ones) that are meant to feed up through the bump stop with a lock washer through the internal bulb washer were “to short”! I tried and tried, I even smashed the lock washer down a bit and retried, no go. The bolts on either side would not thread unless the washer was off, so…I installed them without the lock washer. I’ll have to keep an eye on them I guess? Analysis…the two long bolts supplied are too short by about an 1/8th of an inch to thread into the Timbren SES frame assembly.

This product is basic and will get the job done, however, a set of airbags will give you both increased support and improved ride quality. I recommend trying the Firestone Ride-Rite Red Label Extreme Duty Air Helper Springs part # F2703
Firestone Ride-Rite Red Label Extreme Duty Air Helper Springs - Rear Axle
$484.66
. If you want to operate the airbags inside the truck you can use the Firestone Air Command I part # F2097
Firestone Air Command I - Analog Gauge w/ Heavy-Duty Compressor - Single Path - 150 psi
$360.87
. You could also try the Roadmaster Active Suspension system part # RAS3611-SHD
Roadmaster Active Suspension Custom Leaf Spring Enhancement Kit - Heavy Duty
$569.00
as long as you do not have a factory overload spring. If you do have a factory overload spring then part # RAS3611-SLHD
Roadmaster Active Suspension Custom Leaf Spring Enhancement Kit - Heavy Duty
$569.00
is the one you will want to use.

The Timbren rubber springs are a great addition to the truck 2013 Super Duty Lariat Crew Cab 172" 4x4. The truck has the 20" wheel option which requires the factory to place a 2" leveling block up front. That makes the truck level of course, taking away the rake, however in doing so makes it look like it's squatting when loaded. Before installing the Timbren springs I loaded the truck with a pallet of pellets and the wheel well sat at 38 5/16" from the ground. After the installation the same load was placed in the bed and the wheel well measured 39 9/16" from the ground. The Timbren springs saved over an inch of squatting meaning more weight on the front for steering and breaking. The ride improved from the motion of the ocean leaf spring ride while pulling our travel trailer to a more smooth but firm at the same time feel, a better ride than empty which does not engage the Timbren springs. This product is the fraction of the price of air bags and far less complicated/ less parts and things to go wrong. One of the original bump stops gave me a hard way but wasn't too bad. I installed the Timbren springs 19 March 2016.

2013 Ford F-250 Super Duty

I ordered the Timbren Suspension Enhancement Kit on Monday and received it on Wednesday with the standard shipping. (Free on orders over $150.00). This is the third order from etrailer.com and every order has been expedited quickly and received before date quoted. All my orders have been correct and good quality. I installed the Aeon Rubber springs on my 2013 F-250 4x4 Diesel in about 20 minutes just like the video showed. With my truck bed loaded with supplies and bumper hitch trailer hooked up, my truck bed is just a hair below level; before it squatted a couple of inches. The road test will be tomorrow.

Here are some pics. I installed the timbren could in about 20 minutes and put them to work the very next day pulling my LE3505 Weekend Warrior Fifth wheel. My 2012 F250 power strike was sagging horribly before purchasing these coils. The coils make the truck perform like a one ton & rides wonderful! Thanks for the opportunity to not have to install Air Bags!!

by:

They work great! Keeps my F-250 level when pulling my 37 ft fifth wheel. No more headlights shining in the trees.

by:

Just installed these so haven't had a chance to put them to use. We have a 5th wheel RV and was told by a mechanic that these will stop the rear end sag and also help with any sway problems.
Also need to really give a big cheer for etrailer, very friendly and fast service! Thanks etrailer!

2016 Ford F-250 Super Duty

I had thought I wanted air bags for my 2016 F250 but after talking to some friends I decided to give these a try. EASY installation, and they Work! My truck is not equipped with the factory overload springs and once I loaded my 7x14 dump trailer the suspension sagged a lot. Once the Timbrens were installed the truck sat much more level and drove a lot better! Highly recommend!

by:

These rear SES bump stops were very easy to install. The driver side was a little more difficult due to the wiring harness on the chassis. I installed the at dusk going into darkness with a little light (that was free) from Harbor Freight. It only took about 30-40 minutes to remove the stock bump stops and to install the Timbren SES. I will be using to assist in hauling my fifth wheel camper.

by:
2016 Nissan Leaf

I installed these on my 2016 F250 4X4 and the installation process was quite simple. I did not experience any difficulty removing the factory bump stops that a few others had experienced. After the installation and with my 8500 lb. 5th wheel attached to the truck, I noticed a change in measured rear ride height of only 3/8 inch. My trailer is not a heavy 5th wheel and my truck already had the heaviest leaf springs Ford makes (upgraded camper package option), so this may be why I did not experience more of a ride height change over the 3/8". All this being said, I am still happy with the ride with the Timbrens. The small change in ride height was enough and I no longer receive oncoming traffic night time headlight flashes wanting me to dim my headlights.

Comments
Only had the use of the Timbrens for 6 months as I traded the truck in for a new one. The Timbrens were great while I used them. The only regret is that the new truck wont accept the Timbrens I had on the previous truck New and different frame.

2012 Ford F-250 Super Duty

I installed these on my 2012 Ford F250 because I have two friends who have them on their trucks and they pull a travel trailer and a fifth wheel camper. I was impressed with the difference it made compared to my truck and camper Parked next to theirs'. I am mechanic and I see no reason why anyone would have trouble installing these them selves. Clean off the Nut and end of bolts before trying to loosen. Spray some WD-40 on the threads. Put on some gloves and use a 15mm wrench to loosen factory nut. Be sure to hold up on the factory bump stop because it has a line up pin that keeps it from turning as you loosen the nut. The driver side is a little more aggravating to get to because of wiring harness but there's plenty of room to use a wrench first then a 3/8" drive rachet and short extension with a good 6point 15mm standard depth socket will speed up removal. Then installing the new parts is a breeze. Just follow directions or etrailer videos on YouTube. Took longer to remove factory bump stomps than to install new ones. Maybe 45 mins total on original ones maybe. Then after preassembly of new ones, it took maybe 20 mins to install completely. Give yourself 1:30 hrs of time and enjoy your truck not sagging around town when loaded.

Comments
I have had zero problems with the Timbrens on my truck. I have pulled our camper and several tag along trailers hauling equipment and parts. They do exactly what they are supposed to. Saves on sag by over an inch. No complaints here.

2014 Ford F-250 and F-350 Super Duty

Installed the Timbren stops as instructed. Total time was about 30 minutes. The installation would have been half that but one stock stop was tough to remove due to rust.
I'm very pleased with the looks of the installation, quality of the product and the service from etrailer. I'll report back next week after I hitch up to my 5th wheel but I do expect everything to be good.

by:

Installed these to the rear of a 2016 Ford F250. Great improvement over the factory bump stops. Helps greatly when towing a 5th wheel. Minimal truck sag and the ride when towing is a huge improvement. I don't notice much change in ride when just driving the truck (which is good). Easy install.

by:
2015 Ford F-250 Super Duty

This product has performed exactly as advertised. We pull a fifth wheel rv with a hitch weight of 2300 pounds. After adding the Timbren Rear Suspension System to our Ford F-250, our truck sits perfectly level when hooked up. We feel that it was a much more cost effective way to keep our truck level as opposed to installing an air bag system.

Comments
I still like the suspension product that I purchased from Timbren. It helps keep my vehicle level when we tow our 12,500 lbs fifth wheel RV with a hitch weight of about 2400 lbs, although when I purchased the product we were towing a lighter model. I have been thinking about ordering the heavier duty model you offer to help off set the increase in weight of our new trailer.

Product is as advertised. Not as versatile as airbags but not as much to go wrong with as airbags either. Nice compromise. etrailer was awesome from ease of finding product that fits my F250 to quick shipping and informative installation video.

2012 Ford F-250, no overload springs. Loaded 24,000 lbs on a 32' gooseneck. Pickup would squat too far. Installed Timbrem rear suspension enhancement and pickup runs almost level and rides great!! All I needed to handle the load. Great product!! Would recommend to anyone looking for overload springs. Installed in 30 minutes!!

2013 Ford F-250 Super Duty

Excellent quick shipping. The install on my 2013 F-250 was very straightforward and quite easy. Product seems very well made. Just as mentioned, they sit about 3/4 inch from making contact while the truck is unloaded, so does not affect the empty ride. I have not towed with them yet, and am looking forward to seeing how they handle the load.

by:
2016 Ford F-250 Super Duty

I love the way it helped my suspension I cannot wait to hook my fifth wheel up to it and try it out

by:

Great at preventing the rear end from sagging with the trailer on, the truck stays level. The ride with the trailer on is better, however with no load the truck rides rougher than it did before I installed the Timbren Rear Suspension Enhancement System. Since I drive more miles unloaded I wonder if air bags would have been a better solution for me. The Timbren system works fine and I have no problem with it functionality as it works to level the truck and makes it safer to haul heavy loads.

  • Rear Suspension Enhancement Recommendation for a 2012 Ford F-250 4x4 Crew Cab Diesel
The Timbren suspension enhancement, # TFR250SDG, that you have referenced is my first choice for your truck. The Timbren springs are designed to do exactly what you need plus they will reduce side to side body roll, absorb road shock, and will not affect the empty ride of the vehicle. When you have a load in the bed, like your 5th wheel trailer, the bed will drop and what the Timbren springs do is take of the gap between the axle and frame more than the factory bump stops. We have found that it varies a little bit between vehicles. For some vehicles the unloaded ride quality is totally unaffected with the Timbrens. Typically this is on higher capacity vehicles where the suspension is already pretty stiff and doesn't move much when unloaded. On lighter duty vehicles where the suspension moves quite a bit some people have reported an increase in harshness from the Timbrens. For your 2012 Ford F-250 you probably wouldn't feel them.
