An example of sag on a vehicle's rear axle under a heavy load

Whether you're hauling heavy loads in your bed or cargo area or you're towing a trailer, you will often see the rear of your vehicle sag while the front end rises. In these cases, the rear axle is handling not only the weight of the cargo, but also more of the vehicle's weight. Because less weight is on the front axle, the front tires are making less contact with the road. Overall handling - traction, steering, and braking - is negatively affected. But the resistance from Timbren's Suspension Enhancement System works with your factory suspension to keep your vehicle level and improve your driving experience.

Diagram of the Timbren spring installed

The Timbren system comes with custom-fit brackets that are bolted onto each frame rail above the rear axle. Hollow rubber springs are bolted to the bottom of the bracket and hang down to where the bottom of the spring sits, 1" above the axle. The inch of clearance allows the existing factory suspension to operate normally under light loads and standard terrain, ensuring the smooth, comfortable ride that you are used to.

Animation of a standard Timbren rubber spring

Timbren Suspension Enhancement Systems are designed to work progressively. When the hollow rubber springs are compressed, the convoluted design causes them to quickly collapse along the folds. Once the folds are compacted, the stacked barrel shape increases resistance, stiffening the suspension and keeping your vehicle level.

Timbren suspension system works to prevent body roll

Each hollow rubber spring works independently to support the driver's side or passenger's side of your vehicle. This is helpful when you swerve or make sharp turns. Each spring is activated when it is needed, so body roll is greatly reduced. The independent action also works well when you are hauling off-center loads.

An example of a trailers swaying

Because the vehicle handles better with the springs, less turbulence will be passed along to the trailer, and this helps to keep the trailer in line. Your driving comfort is further enhanced if the trailer does begin to sway (from a gust of wind or a passing semi), because the movement from the trailer is not transferred to your vehicle. This also works to make the sway subside more quickly.

An empty truck on a bumpy road without Timbren

Another great feature of the rubber construction is that the springs absorb most of the road shock, creating a smoother, more stable ride overall. Wear and tear on the factory suspension is also lessened because the rubber springs work to prevent bottoming out on rough roads.

Timbren Suspension Enhancement Compared to the Competition

Timbren's Suspension Enhancement Systems are much easier to install than air springs - there are no air hoses to run, no compressors or gauges to hook up, and no manual adjustments to make. The rubber construction makes Timbren's springs more elastic than similar products constructed of microcellular urethane. And more elasticity allows for a more comfortable ride because the rubber has more travel.

Video Transcript for The Low-Down on the Timbren Suspension Enhancement System

Today we're gonna be taking a look at a popular upgrade for your pickup trucks. It's the Timbren Suspension Enhancement System. All you gotta do is put your vehicle in the fit guide, just to get the kit that'll have a custom bracket so it'll fit the truck. There's a lot of different ways that you can beef up your suspension and a lot of options on our site. But I like these the best, because it literally took me maybe 15 minutes to install. So if I we're to compare this to airbags, airbags are kind of a pain, you have to run airlines you probably need a compressor.

And if you don't get a compressor, you gotta run out and air them up. They're a little bit more customizable, but you don't really have it completely dialed in. With this, the stop is exactly where it is, and as your suspension starts to sag, it'll kick in right away and there's a lot less maintenance and it's the most cost effective way to kinda beef up your suspension. So if you want my opinion, this is the way to go. So here is what we added today.

So we basically just replaced the factory bump stops. So there's a lot of different situations where we're gonna really need these. We'll notice the gap down here. We're gonna have a lot less of a gap than we did with the factory system. So, if your vehicle sags under a load whenever you have a lot of stuff in here.

You have a 450, you're planning on doing some pretty big stuff with it, so a lot of the times it'll make your headlights just go way up bright and you're blinding everybody that you're driving against. Also with less of a load on the front wheels, we are going to have a little bit less good steering and handling just because of the weight transferred to the back. So, you bought a big old truck, you're planning on doing quite a lot of heavy hauling, so this isn't going to increase our capacity of our truck. It is gonna have a limit of 12,000 pounds, but it is going to do a lot for you, what Well, a lot of that sag whenever you have a lot of load in the back, what happens is it starts going like that. One, you're gonna be that guy on the highway that everybody's flashing lights at because once your front end starts to raise, it's gonna look like high beams and you're gonna be blinding everybody.

You don't wanna be that guy, trust me. Also, whenever that weight kinda transfers to the back, there's gonna be less weight on the front. So less weight on the front, that's what steers. We're not gonna have near as good of handling as if we have these on, and it's a little bit more level to where we keep the weight kinda distributed a little bit more. Also with the leaf springs, they're gonna engage a lot quicker with the Timbren Suspension System. So your leaf springs aren't gonna be working a whole lot. It's gonna limit trailer sway and all sorts of stuff. So if you really just wanna kind of protect your truck and just make the whole riding experience a little bit nicer, it's definitely the way to go. Whether you're hauling with a ball mount, or a gooseneck or fifth wheel, it's not gonna have any interference with the gooseneck or fifth wheels in the bed of your truck. So you don't have to worry about that. Some of you guys we're wondering, and Adam's saying, it's not gonna be a problem. So one, I like the black color, 'cause it doesn't really stick out like the factory ones. And also these are a lot smaller than the ones we put on here, there's only about a finger's length in between there. So they're definitely gonna engage even with some of the lighter loads. And that'll do it for a look at the Timbren Suspension Enhancement, and I'm Adam with etrailer..

I have not put any weight on it yet so that will come later. I have a 2007 G.M.C. 2500 H.D. and I pull a 40 foot Big Horn Traveler. What I want to talk about is the install. It was quick only took about a hour. Take the tire down and start. Had no problems it went just like the video showed. I did not use the big washer I didn't have enough room.I have about 1 inch of travel before they come in to play so ride is the same.

by:

nice ride with my 5th wheel

by:

Takes the sag out for a bargain, but not as good as real springs

by:

Super easy to install. After reading several reviews about this product and how folks went about installing, found that I just needed to remove just one of the U-Bolts and just barely loosened the second. Replaced both in about 30 minutes. Shipping was quick and was exactly what I ordered. Reviews were helpful and will definitely use etrailer again.

by:

Bump stops I bought from you are way bigger and so much better than oem. Only took less than 30 minutes to install. It was very easy to install.

by:

great delivery time. I received them this afternoon and installed them in about an hour. thanks to the video that showed everything step by step. thanks for a great product. I think this is just what we needed to help haul our camper and pull our car hauler at the same time. thanks again

Great product, easy to put on. It took less than 45 minutes to put the new Timber butt stops on. Only thing I would request is to tape up the box they cam in, because by the time it travels to your location it’s beat to hell and back. Like the last time I ordered the ones for the front, all the parts were missing. Luckily this time all items were still in the box.

by:

Product fits as described. Will try out when I tow my travel trailer in a few weeks.

by:

Works good when pulling trailer take them out when not pulling for smoother ride only takes about 10 minutes

by:

Came just as advertised. Waiting to install. As an aside: You might want to make sure all box sides are securely taped as the USPO delivered the box with the un-taped side completely pulled away from the box and the suspension parts were pushing out of the box.

Works great

by:

Works great with my slide in camper easy install great product will do the front next

by:

Got them this morning as promised. Haven’t put them to the test yet but installation was a breeze, 30 to 45 minutes. That includes putting away the tools and washing my hands!

by:

Product arrived on time. Installation was easier than the video. Only took me 20 minutes.

by:

Works great. Helps to stabilize my large toy hauler behind my Ram Truck while traveling. My truck stays level with the heavy load.. Highly recommend.

by:

Every thing I got from you guys is all great . Thanks for checking !!

by:

super easy to install. I only used the jack to hold the u-bolts in place. Can't wait to put them to use!

by:

I needed this product to provide more stability when I am hauling our camper. Installation was fast, and the product is helping as advertised.

by:

Easy install / part of the system I used to get the "Sway" out of my awfully heavy truck camper.

by:

Works great. Still looks like new after a year and we use it hard.

by:

Box was not taped and was at my door open. Thankfully all parts were there. Install was easy and just as the videos suggest. Took 20 mins total to do.

  • Recommended Rear Timbrens For A 2019 Jayco Redhawk SE Motorhome
Yes I can definitely set you up. For your 2019 Jayco Redhawk SE Motorhome I recommend the Timbren # TGMRG45MH. These are the 5,600 lb capacity rubber springs and will do a great job supporting the rear of your motorhome. These will be in constant contact with the axle, so seeing a 5" gap with wheels on the ground is normal. We have not got a chance to shoot an install video for these yet. I do have the manufacturer instructions linked below if you want to take a look. It will be a pretty...

  • Comparing Timbren Suspension Enhancement Systems for a 2022 Coachmen Leprechaun on a Chevy Chassis
The Timbren Suspension Enhancement System # TGMRG45MH (5,600lbs) I find will give you the smoother ride since it is not as firm as the Timbren # TGMRG45 (8,600lbs). If you will be hauling close to the maximum weight capacity or hauling a trailer with significant tongue weight the firmer springs will be your best option to reduce sag and provide additional stability.
