The Stax Pro2 is one of the most economical ways to transport 2 kayaks on your roof rack. This post-style carrier stabilizes your boats so you can carry them on their sides. The carrier also utilizes foam blocks that contour to the curve of your kayaks to protect them from scuffs and scratches. And because it carries the boats on their sides, you may have extra space on your roof to carry additional gear if your crossbars are long enough. You can even carry 2 additional kayaks by adding 2 more sets of foam blocks and tie-downs (all sold separately).
When you're not hauling your boats, the posts can be folded down to increase overhead clearance. This reduces the likelihood that you'll have to remove the carrier when you pull into your garage.
This carrier includes 5 cam-buckle straps for a solid hold while you transport your kayaks. Use 4 straps to secure your kayaks to the post and your vehicle's crossbars. For added security, wrap the remaining strap around the middle of both kayaks to secure them to the carrier. A set of bow/stern tie-downs are also included to secure the kayaks to the front and back of your vehicle. If your vehicle doesn't have any tie-down points, you can get an anchor kit (sold separately) which will let you create anchor points in the creases of your vehicle's hood and hatch.
The carrier clamps to most crossbars without the need for tools. Simply set the posts on your crossbars, slide the mounting brackets over the bolts, and secure them with the T-knobs.

Good first rack for new kayakers.
We needed a carrier solution that folded down easily because of our garage door height. The Malone Pro2 Kayak Carrier has performed flawlessly over the past year. The kayaks remain stable and never shift even at freeway speeds. The foam blocks fit our crossbar well and offered a rattle free ride, which is nice. The one drawback to this system is how difficult it can be to actually route the straps. Without a ladder, it can be nearly impossible to get the strap over the kayak and hooked into the carrier properly. After you find a system that works for you, it becomes easier but I still think that the stationary carriers are more user friendly in that regard.
Ordered and received three products; a Yakima DoubleDown 4 bike rack, a Yakima hitchlock, and a Malone Stax Pro kayak carrier. The website contained a ton of information which allowed me to make an informed decision re which type/model and manufacturer of each item to choose. Ordering was simple and I received the items on the estimated date of delivery. I detected a manufacturing flaw in one of he items, however when I contacted the manufacturer the customer rep immediately shipped me the necessary parts and tools to repair the item. The installation of the rack and carrier was simple, especially having observed the videos on the etrailer website. Thus far we have transported two adult bicycles on the Yakima DoubleDown and the ride was very smooth as if there was no rack or bikes. We have also transported one kayak using the Malone carrier system and like the bike rack, the ride was very smooth and quiet as if there was no 10' kayak on the roof. The bike rack is on our 2015 Subaru Forester and the kayak carrier on our 2010 Chrysler Town and Country. Overall a very good experience and I would highly recommend etrailer and the Yakima DoubleDown and the Malone Staxx kayak carrier system (as well as purchasing the HitchLock to prevent the theft of the rack and bikes!).
This is a one-year anniversary of purchasing the hitch for my Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV. I've kind of had time to forget how painful it was to crawl around under my car for a couple of hours, struggling to tighten the last bolt. But now it all feels worth it. I got a solid hitch that looks great and works great for way less than I would have if I had the dealer install it. Worth some discomfort lying on the ground cursing tight spaces on the underside of my car.
I have had these for 1 year now and have used them several times. They have worked exactly as advertised. Keeps my kayaks secure and once you have the process of mounting down it is pretty easy. Nice product.
Fit well onto my crossbars. Included everything you need to be able to use it right out of the box. I prefer the versatility of the post style over the cradles. Seems like solid construction that I anticipate lasting.
Very helpful with no issues switching mounting plates
Great product, well made and not too expensive. Actually using 2 pairs, side by side to carry 4 kayaks.
