I acquired a second kayak and needed a system to fit the factory racks on my 2011 Toyota RAV4. Etrailer.com has always had information on what fits and has always had the item needed for the job. I attached the Yakima BigStack to the top with ease, and, with one other person to hold the kayaks while I secured, tied two of them down for a long road trip to Northern Minnesota. The system worked just fine. The only caveat was in the configuration of multiple boats in the instructions. The diagram has two boats on the same side of the posts, however, I found it more secure to put one on either side ( other reviews of this product on different Internet sites have found similar results.) The boats made it through the trip with no shifting.

One year later: Still using the system and have had no problems thus far. As always, I recommend etrailer.com for any racks and accessories you may need no, Im not employed by them, Ive just always found exactly what I need with them.

Where do I start?

I've been whitewater
kayaking for 22 or so years now. I've always used used either Yakima or Thule products...

Until I bought a 2015 Nissan Rogue with a naked roof. The curvature of the roof and large door jams mean that Yakima and Thule can't make racks for them. I went to a place that does custom installs and again because of the curvature of the roof, they couldn't give me a rack. This meant no kayaking which is really bad news.

Enter the Rhino rack system. I purchased the feet, the fit kit, the cross bars and a Yakima "big stack" stacker. The first issue I had is the reccomended size for the Nissan Rogue is only 48 inches. Way too small too haul 4-5 (very light) whitewater kayaks. I called etrailer and they were SUPER helpful, told me I can buy the 65 in cross bars and they'll work fine.

I held my breath and placed my order. I was nervous leaving my trusted name brands. The order arrived super fast (they told me it would arrive by Friday but it actually arrived on Thursday) and everything was packaged rock solid. I was impressed.

I read the instructions and put the rack system on my car. It took about a hour (it was hot and I worked slowly) but the rack system is SUPER SOLID. I love it. Rhino might have a "forever" customer out of me.

-The rack system is very stable. I can't move it with my hands by pushing or pulling.
-The rubber stripping you put on the top and bottom of the bar is an awesome added feature AND it reduces wind noise.
-Adding the fairing reduced wind noise even further. With four boats on the roof you couldn't hear any extra noise.

The ONE thing I dislike is that you need to use the supplied Allen wrench to take the rack on and off the car. It's a small complaint, but other systems I've used in the past don't have them.

I paid much less for this system than I would have if I purchased one of the aforementioned systems, but I'm really really satisfied with the product. We will see how well it holds up over long-term use, but it looks awesome!

Worked great on our Subaru Crosstrek with factory crossbars. Loading very easy, and it was very secure, for our 2 kayaks. The Yakima Big Sticks are easy to install/setup and take off. Very happy with our investment,

by:

Good product. Always am a little nervous that they will slip on the rack but they never have. (This is b/c we mixed Yakima on this one with different manufacturer for the rack and Yakima is built to be multipurpose so not perfect fit.) That said, nothing but success so far.

by:

Strap Failure After First UsePut two kayak on my roof (tandem and single about 12' long to transport 400 miles. The sticks are easy to install, however out of the box one strap kept slipping and another frayed almost completely. Thank good I had secured the load with my own strapping since I did not trust the Yakama straps. Also, you need a buddy to load with you since the kayaks want to slide away from the sticks.

by:

Difficult for one person to load kayaks on roof. You need more than two hands. Used it once - will now buy used racks, one for each kayak.

by:

I have had the exact opposite experience. The straps are all solid and strong and the kayaks are rock solid on there. They even included little rubber tubes for padding for the front and aft tie-downs. In addition to many local trips, I drove 8 hours each way to Michigan last summer and the rack was perfect.

by:

The product quality can speak for itself, but i was extremely satisfied with the turn around time. i received my package in plenty of time for a planned camping trip. Also your customer service was top notch. i got a phone call checking my address for shipping and thought it was really great that someone was actually handling my order with care and it wasn't just me and a computer. So thanks alot. I'll for sure be using this service in the future

by:

Excellent support system for the kayak. Easy to install.

by:

Product shipped and arrived very quickly and everything claimed online was true about this carrier.

by:

Great product. We had no problem loading and moving two kayaks. I would buy this product again!

by:

Eh, a lot left to be desired. I wish i had bought two J hooks instead. This works but the J hooks would be a lot easier and I feel like i would be more comfortable on the highway with the J hooks

Super helpful Customer Service staff.

Great
product.

Delivered very quickly.

Great experience all around.

  • Kayak Carrier for 2 Kayaks and a 2012 Toyota RAV4
Some but not all J-Style kayak carriers have length restrictions. I did not see anything unusual about your Native Ultimate kayaks that would prevent them from being loaded on J-Style carriers. What I recommend is the Yakima JayLow # Y04073 which can handle 2 kayaks with a combined weight of up to 110 pounds (please note the factory roof rack on your RAV4 is limited to 102.6 pounds). I have linked a video review of this carrier for you. Having one carrier for both kayaks will save you...

  • Can the Yakima JayLow Kayak Carrier be Used for 3 Kayaks
The Yakima JayLow Kayak Carrier # Y04073 is only compatible with up to 2 kayaks so if you're needing to carry more than 2 kayaks you'll need the Yakima BigStack # Y04041. This is confirmed to fit the Yakima HD bars which are 3" wide x 1-1/2" tall so this should fit pretty much any application out there.

We have exactly what you are looking to replace the mounting hardware for your Yakima BigStack. The Replacement Mounting Hardware # 8860051 includes 1 bale, 2 bale pads, 1 T-bolt, and 1 knob so you will need 1 of these for each of the BigStack posts.

  • Post Style Kayak Carrier That Can Carry Two Kayaks and Fit Yakima Round Crossbars.
We do have post style kayak carriers that can be used with the Yakima round crossbars like the BigStack part # Y04041 but the Rhino Rack Nautic part # RRS520 was not designed for this size bar so it would not work.

  • Is It Safe To Carry Kayaks On Your Roof When They Stick Out Of The Back?
There is nothing unsafe about having your kayaks sticking out a little bit when they are loaded. If it were to stick out a little further you may have to put a red flag on the end of it but for two feet, you're fine! If you wanted to be extra safe, you can grab this safety flag # EM05302 and attach it to the end of your kayaks!

  • Best Kayak Rack for 2011 Toyota RAV4
Thanks for the photo, that water looks pretty awesome! In regards to the best way to carry two kayaks on your 2011 Toyota RAV4 in windy conditions you are right that the kayak carriers that allow the kayaks to sit in nests - also called J-Style carriers - are going to be the most sturdy, secure option. The kayak carrier that is the best for this is the J-Style Kayak Carrier # E98878 because it comes with integrated load straps to secure your kayak to the carrier, and a strong aluminum...

I recommend going with The Thule Stacker, part # TH830, which you referenced. • Kayak Carrier Recommendation for a 2012 Toyota RAV4 with Factory Crossbars
The Thule Hull-a-Port part # TH834 has been confirmed as a fit for your 2012 Toyota RAV4 with factory crossbars so it would work well for you since you said you wanted a J-style carrier. This carrier can be used on kayaks that are up to 36 inches in width so it would work well on yours that is 33 inches wide. I attached a review video for more info for you to check out as well.

For a kayak carrier confirmed to fit the factory crossbars of your 2015 Subaru Outback and would work well with your ocean kayaks that weigh 45 lbs I would recommend the Thule Hull-a-Port part # TH834. You will need to check the roof capacity of your vehicle and be sure that you do not exceed that figure with the weight of your kayaks and these carriers that weigh 10 lbs a piece. I attached a review video for these carriers for you to check out as well.

  • Best Kayak Carrier for Hauling my Two Kayaks on my 2020 Ford Explorer
My favorite kayak carrier for your situation is the etrailer J-Style Kayak Carrier part # e98878. It is a very well made carrier that can be folded down when not in use to reduce the time it takes to use them when you want them. They are designed to fit your already existing cross bars and will be strong enough to meet your 2020 Ford Explorer XT. • Can Yakima BigStack be Used to Transport Paddle Board Vertically
When it comes to transporting a paddleboard you will want to carry it flat to best protect it. Since the Yakima BigStack # Y04041 would mean you have to carry it on it's side I recommend using a kit like the 33-1/2" Long Rhino-Rack Surfboard and SUP Pads w/ Tie-Downs # RRRWP05 instead. This is a simple application and it will take up less space than a whole carrier that sits wider than the paddle board itself. You can try putting your bike racks next to each other and face one towards the...

  • Can 4 Kayaks be Carried on Malone XtraLight Trailer
Yes, you can definitely use your Malone XtraLight to carry 4 kayaks! To do this I recommend using 4 sets of the Yakima JayHook Kayak Carrier # Y04084 which comes with it's own set of tie-downs. For a more economical option you could use the Yakima BigStack # Y04041 with the extra set of tie-downs # Y05006, but this will be a little bit more of a hassle when loading and unloading your kayaks. • Can You Mount 2 Malone SeaWing Kayak Carriers
I doubt you will be able to use two on the roof at the same time but measure to ensure. The Malone SeaWing Kayak Carrier with Tie-Downs, # MPG107MD is just under 28" wide. If you mount this as close to the outside of your vehicles crossbars as possible, I think the inside edge of your kayak will be about 20 inches inboard.
