Sweet Roll Fit

Single-Person Rear Loading

Yakima's SweetRoll makes it easy for one person to quickly and easily load a kayak or stand-up paddleboard onto a roof rack from behind a car or SUV. This rack is great for transporting a sea (touring), river (whitewater), or recreational (fishing) kayak.

Sweet Roll Pivoting Saddle

This system includes 4 saddles with spring-loaded, pivoting heads that adjust to the shape of your boat as you load it.

Sweet Roll in Saddles

Rubber rollers on the 2 rear saddles allow you to easily load a kayak onto your roof rack crossbars by yourself. Just place the bow between the saddles and roll the boat toward the front of your vehicle until it rests evenly on the front and rear saddles. Molded rubber pads on all 4 saddles securely grip your boat's hull and protect it from scratches and scuffs. So the hull of your boat will be cradled snugly, and you'll be able to pat yourself on the back for making it look so easy.

Tie-Down Straps

Yakima Tie Down Strap

This kayak carrier comes with 4 nylon tie-down straps. Two tie-down straps secure your kayak to your roof rack crossbars. Loop these straps through your crossbars and around the hull of your boat and secure them with the integrated cam buckles. The cam buckles are rubber-coated so you don't have to worry about damaging your kayak or scratching your vehicle's paint when you toss these straps over your kayak. Use the optional clips to secure loose strap ends so they won't flap in the wind.

SweetRoll Bow Stern Tied Down

Two Bow/Stern tie-down straps with stainless steel hooks let you anchor your boat to the front and rear of your vehicle. Tying down the bow and stern helps to prevent the boat from shifting forward or backward during transport. A protective sleeve on the strap helps protect your bumper from scratches and friction damage. And ratchet pulleys allow you to easily adjust the tension of the straps to ensure the boat is secure on your roof.

Tool-Free Installation

Sweet Roll Saddle Mounted

The mounting clamps on these saddles fit most crossbar configurations without the adapters. To install, simply place the saddle on your crossbar and turn the integrated handle until the mounting clamp is tightly secured. If you have round crossbars, the included adapters will provide a secure fit, preventing the saddles from twisting or sliding on the bars. Each saddle has a removable plug that you can replace with a Yakima Same Key System (SKS) core (sold separately) so you can lock the system to your roof rack. Yakima's SKS cores can be swapped out to make all your Yakima locks keyed alike.

Excellent product, easy install, secure on the crossbars, a bit lower ride height and a simple rolling mechanism. A significant improvement over my older Yakima Handroll racks.

by:

The Sweet Roll will not support my Old Town Topwater 10.6. The brackets spread out on the crossbar under the weight. This year I will try a Yakima Big Catch. The Sweet Roll works fine with our Old Town Loons.

The Old Town Topwater is a heavier 34 inch wide sit on top style kayak. It looks like you may be pushing or exceeding the 80 lb capacity of the Yakima SweetRoll Kayak Carrier. The Yakima BigCatch Kayak Carrier part # Y04091 has a 150 lb capacity so it is a much better option for your kayak.

by:

The product was gust as described and as always the customer service with e-trailer is too notch. Very happy with the purchase.

by:

Pretty disappointing. The product is not really made for Yakima's round bars. It's made for their rectangular bars. Round bar adaptors are included, but they are poor. Even if you clamp them on very very tightly, they will tend to rotate on the bars and the saddles don't stay level when you slide the kayak on. Even during transport, they have been rotating sometimes, causing the kayak to become slightly loose in the saddles. Very disappointing for the price. I would not recommend these for use on round bars.

by:

Nice product. Put them on my Yakima HD tundra truck rack. hauling two kayaks with a trailer. Use a T-Bone bar to help push the kayaks into the carriers and to unload them.

by:

Sweet Roll was easy to install. Lock sets matched my Yakima bike rack therefore I only need 1 key! Only thing about Sweet Roll is that given angle of roof (Jaguar F-pace), kayak has to be lifted onto back Sweet Roll ( cannot simply be pushed from the ground).

by:

These kayak racks are great. They fit any size bars on the car, sturdy, easy to put on the car, and fit any size kayak. I have four kayaks and these can be adjusted for any size or type of kayak. Having the rollers on the back set make it super easy for this 70 year old to load my kayak by myself on the top of my car. I would definitely purchase again!

by:

I just received my Yakima SweetRoll kayak carrier. I can tell that it is very well made and it fits the crossbars on my Tacoma perfectly. It may be awhile before I go kayaking (it is winter), but I look forward to using this product.

by:

Have used this product for the past year. It has remained attached to my roof rack and works like a charm each time. Have had three different kayaks mounted and each time they conform to the shape and hold them securely in place.

by:

Excellent product but ridiculous that they sell the locks separately. Not cheap I must say. I don't know who would want to buy the rack and not be able to lock it while you leave your vehicle at the trailhead or put water put-in. Poor taste business tactics. Not sure I'll be buying any more Yakima products. Disappointed customer.

by:

Very good product; works well as intended.

I had to stop using them because they would indent my tandem kayak at the point of contact. This may just be an issue with the kayak length and weight and how I strapped it down.

by:

Had a set of these and needed another, nothing compares to them when solo kayaking and putting on car, now trailer by onesself

by:

Big improvement over my old HullyRoller s.

by:

Product is performing well. Has been left on my truck most of the time. Does not show any sun damage.

by:

Great product- we have a 13.5’ tandem kayak and the loading and unloading is so much easier that my wife doesn’t cry…

by:

This item was delayed or several months, and the seller kept us well-informed throughout that time on its status. Excellent follow-through! Grateful for the consistent communication.

by:

Superb all the way around!

SweetRolls are fantastic. Big improvements over the prior type. I like the single screw method of clamping the units to the bars. Its a secure clamp that, so far, has prevented the unit from rotating on the round bar. The pads hold my yaks securely when they are strapped down.

  • Roof Rack/Kayak Carrier For A 2017 Ford Explorer And A 2014 Subaru Forester
Good morning, Donna. So, according to Malone, the # MPG217 roof rack does not fit the factory raised side rails on a 2017 Ford Explorer. I would have to offer you a different roof rack for this vehicle like the Rhino Rack # RR98VE. You can use a Malone rack on the factory raised side rails on the 2014 Subaru Forester, but the 65" bars are too long. The longest bar recommended for this vehicle is a 58", the # MPG216. You can definitely carry two kayaks using this setup. The Yakima Sweet...

  • Saddle Style Kayak Carrier that Can be Used on Load Bars of Truxedo Elevate Ladder Rack
Hey Lisa, we have a solution but the load bars of the Elevate ladder racks are too large for any of the clamp on style kayak carriers to fit on them. Instead you would need a carrier setup that was designed to fit the top channels on loadbars like the Rhino Rack Nautic 581 part # RR581. This comes with hardware that attaches the rack to the top channels of the bars you have so it will fit and work great.

The Yakima SweetRoll Kayak Carrier w/ Tie-Downs part # Y04074 fit crossbars up to 3-1/2" wide and 1-11/16" tall so you will not have an issue clamping the SweetRoll system to the Rhino-Rack Vortex Crossbar System part # RRVA180B-RRRLT600 that measure 71" long x 3-1/8" wide x 1-3/16" tall. The feet of the system fits into the channels of the XR hard tonneau covers with Trax Rails.

  • Best Solution to Carry a Kayak on a 2010 Hyundai Santa Fe
I can't say that I've ever seen anyone try to use a truck bed extender like the Malone Axis Truck Bed and Roof Load Extender - 2" Hitches - 375 lbs # MPG907 on an SUV like your 2010 Hyundai Santa Fe, but I suppose it's possible as long as extreme care is taken to secure the kayak into the vehicle. I would consult with your local laws on this to be sure that you're not violating any laws that might pertain to items extruding from your vehicle. The best solution would be to use a roof rack...

  • 2 Kayak Carrier Recommendation for Fitting on Narrower Crossbars
I attached a picture of a single kayak carried by the Yakima SweetRoll Kayak Carrier # Y04074 and it takes up most of the roof rack crossbars which would be longer than what you have so I'd anticipate two not fitting but I do have a solution. For carrying two kayaks on narrower bars the Rhino Rack 2 Kayak Carrier part # S512-S512X is a really great option since the rack does not require much bar space and it holds them very securely.

I have a couple different options for you for locking kayak carriers. Notably, none of them lock the kayak itself, but all do lock to the bars to prevent theft of the carrier. During a recent training session conducted here by the folks at Yakima, we got to test the SweetRoll Kayak Carrier. We were all impressed by how much easier the rollers made the task of loading a kayak. Due to the width of two kayaks sitting side by side, you should make sure your round crossbars are long enough.
