Create a more stable ride for your tow vehicle and trailer with a weight distribution hitch. Adding spring bars to your towing system applies leverage, which transfers the load that is pushing down on the rear of your vehicle to all of the axles on both your tow vehicle and your trailer, resulting in an even distribution of weight throughout. The result is a smooth, level ride, and it also gives you the ability to tow the maximum capacity of your hitch.

Blue Ox weight distribution system

Selecting a Weight Distribution System

The tongue weight rating is the most important factor in determining which size weight distribution system you should use. If the bars of the system you choose are rated too high for your towing setup, they will create a rigid ride, which can result in a bouncing trailer. If, on the other hand, the bars are not rated high enough, the system will be unable to properly distribute the weight, rendering it virtually useless.

To determine the proper weight rating for a weight distribution system, you must first determine your trailer's tongue weight. Then add the weight of the cargo behind the rear axle of your tow vehicle. These two measurements make up the tongue weight rating for a weight distribution system.

2 Types of Sway Control

The TrackPro features 2 different sway control technologies to provide the best towing experience possible.

Positive Caster Keeps Trailer Centered

Blue Ox TrackPro Positive Caster

The TrackPro is built with a positive caster angle - pointed toward the rear of your trailer - to help stop sway before it even starts. This is the same technology that vehicles use to stay centered on the road. When you turn a corner in your car and let go of the steering wheel, the wheel automatically corrects itself and returns to center. This is caster taking over. Likewise, the TrackPro features a positive caster angle built into the hitch. Working in tandem with the tapered spring bars to create a self-centering force, this caster angle helps to keep your trailer consistently centered behind your tow vehicle, even during high winds and sharp turns, resulting in a smoother towing experience.

Steel-on-Steel Friction Corrects Sway

Blue Ox TrackPro Steel-on-Steel Friction

While this system does its best to keep your trailer in line, the TrackPro is also able to correct sway should it occur. Unlike many traditional weight distribution systems with chain-style setups, the TrackPro uses steel brackets to hold the ends of the spring bars, and therefore your trailer, in place. While chain-style setups do a good job with weight distribution alone, they aren't really designed to limit sway, so they typically allow a good amount of side-to-side play.

In addition to better holding the trailer in line, these brackets create friction with the spring bars to combat sway that might occur in heavy winds or following sudden maneuvers. When this type of sway happens, the tapered ends of the spring bars slide within the L-brackets that are mounted on the trailer tongue. When each spring bar moves forward or backward, or side to side, it rubs along the bracket, creating friction. This friction limits the movement of the spring bar, which minimizes further side-to-side movement of the trailer. The steel-on-steel friction that occurs with the TrackPro's spring bars is the same sort of friction that is used with locomotives that pull loaded railcars that weigh multiple tons, so you know it'll be highly effective.

Fast, Easy Setup

Blue Ox TrackPro Hitch Head

Many weight distribution systems require you to manually adjust the pitch of the hitch head by stacking washers. This can be a tedious, trial-and-error process where you have to unhook your trailer, disassemble the head to add or remove washers to get the desired tilt, put it all back together, and then determine if you have the correct placement. If the pitch still isn't right, you have to do it all over again.

The TrackPro removes all of that hassle with an easy-to-use hitch head that has the required pitch already built into it. Whereas other systems require washers to help achieve the proper tension in the head, the positive caster angle built into the TrackPro ensures the proper pitch, so there's no need to manually adjust the tilt. The only adjustment that may be needed is the placement of the head on the shank. Move the head up or down along the weight distribution shank to achieve the proper rise or drop for your setup. No additional, fine-tune adjustment is needed.

My only gripe with etrailer is shipping quality. This is a heavy item, well constructed, heavy duty, not lightweight. To ship this in a standard cardboard box without reinforcement is nuts. When delivered by UPS this box had gapping holes and part of the contents were protruding outside the shipping box. My UPS driver stated that such heavy items should be attached to a wood skeleton inside the box to keep from moving around during shipment. To my amazement all the parts were present, albeit banged up a bit with paint damage and gouging. So be aware that you may find your order in similar condition. etrailer responds to me with yada yada. Not real happy with this one but the unit itself is quite robust although a little black enamel will be required.

by:

Came with package in only fair shape but all parts were there and installed easily. Looks like good quality wdh, easy to hookup too.

by:

Item received timely and in good condition. Installation was rather simple, as the instructions were very good and everything for well. However, on of the pins was missing. This was a minor inconvenience, as I was able to find one at the closest hardware store 10 miles away. This is the only reason this is not a five star rating. Upon completion of installation, pulling my grooming trailer with the water tanks partial or full at greater than 55 mph was no longer a harrowing experience that I often wondered if I would survive. If you pull a trailer often, and it had swaying issues, this product is absolutely necessary.

I will have our customer service team reach out to you. The manufacturer prefers to have you use the hardware that comes with the system however if you do need to use replacement hardware in a pinch you will want to make sure that it is grade 8 hardware.

by:

These were easy to install on our 2021 Cherokee Wolf Pup trailer. The sway control is very good and the towing is now a very smooth safe ride. Backing is very easy. The only drawback is we have to raise the trailer tongue and truck pretty high with the jack to get them on easily. Lots of tension on the bars. Safety and smooth towing is why we purchased and for this i would recommend purchasing.

by:

This is a strong, well built WD hitch receiver. Arrived undamaged and I was able to install it easily, instructions were clear and etrailer has several videos that make it clear just what to do. My only concern was that the amount of noise the tension bars would make with movement, especially turning, but that has turned out to be minimal. The recommended setting of the hardware where the bars rest turned out to be just right for my 2015 Odyssey, and the camper (Little Guy Mini Max) and van ride level and within specs. Driving the combo was very satisfactory with nary a wiggle or sway, and ground clearance is also fine . I do have one complaint, and other reviews mention this too: the hardware that mounts on the trailer tongue tends to rotate during the stress of use, and I have had to readjust mine twice now. The use of nylon lock nuts for this hardware was not a good choice by the manufacturer. I am switching to lock washers and standard nuts of proper rating to see if that solves the problem. Were it not for this issue, I would have given a 5-star rating.

by:

Towing a single axle 6x12 3500# Enclosed cargo trailer with a Jeep UJK. This unit has worked flawlessly. Great stability even with Arizona cross winds. Can recommend it. Warning, this is one very heavy piece of kit. It is solid.

by:

Happy with the product and was an easy install. After watching a few videos of how to hook up to the trailer, it’s easy enough for my wife to hook up to travel trailer on her own. Pulled thru some pretty tough terrain in Big Bend and survived some tough mountain passes in Colorado. So far so good. Definitely happy with our purchase.

by:

During these times everything is more difficult. I think it is so important your administration and the entire e trailer team knows you have all endeavored to persevere and have done an incredible job! Keep up the great work. Special thanks to Patricia and Marty

Everything from initial questions, Marty purchase and results with product ranks an 11 out of 1-10. Thank you keep up the great work!

by:

Easy to use. Does a good job of reducing bounce and sway. We got hit with a huge sidewind gust in west Texas once that blew our little trailer almost into the next lane, but were able to get it back under control. Winds were 55mph and gusts higher!

by:

When I first started using the blue ox I had a smaller vehicle and it worked out great!! No dropping of the tow vehicle and never had an issue with sway.

by:

the order delivered was missing the tool for the spring bars. I contacted etrailer and a replacement was sent immediately

by:

It works well, I did lose one of the pins, holding the bar in place while I was driving, notice no performance decrement, but was amazed that I lost it

by:

Looks well built. Had a missing part that was replaced quickly

by:

We use this with our Winnebago Hike, it’s a great hitch. The sway was almost not existent, even in bad cross winds.

  • Recommended Weight Distribution Hitch For A 2016 StarCraft AR One 14RB 255 lb Hitch Weight
We can definitely set you up with a weight distribution system to use on your 2016 StarCraft AR One 14RB. This camper has a hitch weight of about 255 lbs, so both the Curt # C69JR and the Blue Ox # BLU65FR will be rated much to high to use with a camper like this. For example the # C69JR is made for campers with a hitch weight between 800-1,000 lbs. Instead I recommend the Blue Ox TrackPro Weight Distribution Hitch # BLU36FR. This is made for campers with a tongue weight between 200 and...

Hi Art, You have a couple good options there, but between the Blue Ox TrackPro and Fastway e2, go with the former, from Blue Ox. The correctly rated hitch for a 3,500 lb trailer is the following: - Blue Ox TrackPro Weight Distribution w/ Sway Control # BLU36FR While both systems have 2 points of sway control, what I really like about the TrackPro compared to the Fastway is its ease of use. • Can Spring Bars of Blue Ox TrackPro be Upgraded to Higher Spring Bar Rating
Your current Blue Ox TrackPro part # BLU36FR as it sits does not have the correct rating for the larger trailer you are going to but there is a pretty easy solution. You can just swap the spring bars out with the part # BLU52FR and you'd have a higher rated system that would work great. This will give you a tongue weight rating of between 800 and 1,000 lbs which would be perfect for your trailer.
