Wire was just what I needed to add the battery charger wiring to the 6 pin receptacle for the TOAD vehicle.

by:

Was larger gauge than I needed but worked just fine. This 10 gauge wire is blue but my stock wiring was about 14 gauge but since the used a circuit breaker to cross connect it was not a problem.

by:

Exactly as described!

by:

Excellent brake controller. etrailer was prompt in shipping and service outstanding. Would definitely buy from etrailer again.

This brake controller is working great. Would recommend it Easily adjustable for driving conditions

by:

Exactly what I needed to re-wire my trailer. Fast shipping and good price.

by:

Ordered a pair of Dexter electric brake kits for my trailer. Everything arrived within a few (3) days in good shape. Installed on the trailer, everything works as advertised. I have ordered from etrailer several times over the past few years. Always great service and prices. Customer service and tech assist is especially good with these folks. I would send pictures but the trailer is out working.

Fast delivery - Ordered on 9/29/17 - Received on 10/4/17
Excellent heavy gauge wire!
NOTE for etrailer managers. I am a technical person by nature and speaking only for myself, when I buy and pay for a specific amount of something, I expect to get that amount. I'm not pinching pennies with you here; BUT, I bought 30' of this wire and when I received it, I measured it twice and came up with 29' 9". Most places I've dealt with in the past where I buy wire, angle iron, etc.. would give you a couple of inches or more than you ordered versus a couple of inches shorter than what was ordered. Very stingy in my opinion and not fair to your customers.

by:

Couldn't be happier. Bought a couple of 4 to 7 way adapters, some 10 gauge wire and a couple of 40a breakers. Recommendations from etrailer were thorough and well done.
All installed on both vehicles ... both working just great.

by:

Good price, and just what I needed for carrying the heavier loads needed for charging the trailers on board battery, and running the refrigerator/freezer.

by:

The wire itself seems okay, although the packaging wasn't great. Ordered 75 feet of wire along with a coupler. The wire was coiled in the bottom of the box, with the coupler sitting on top of it in direct contact. I noticed some nicks in the wire insulation as a result of the coupler edges hitting it during shipping.

eTrailer did a great job of shipping quickly! Order packaging needs some serious attention.

by:

The wiring harness set is flawless and the installation went smooth, even for this less than electrically inclined guy. A couple hours or work and I was on the road towing with confidence

by:

Very heavy good gauge wire for supplying 12VDC power to my trailer.

by:

The wire was perfect for the application (electric trailer brakes). The sales person, William, who helped me, was most helpful.

by:

Ordered several electrical connectors, wire and a wire tester .. all items came in good condition ,looking forward to using the tester as soon as I can I am sure it will do the job.

by:

ettrailer was extremely helpful with adding brakes to my utility trailer. This wire was just one component in the upgrade. Thank you etrailer. I would definitely recommend them.

by:

This served its purpose for installing a trailer battery charge line. It was nice that I could order a specific length from retailer since I didn't need a whole roll.

by:

Order accurately filled, (I even called back to add some items). The order even came more quickly than I expected. Quality of the parts appears to be excellent!

Thank you!

Working fine. No problems.

by:

Nice thick sturdy wire, I used it to run 12v power supply from battery to circuit breaker then to to 7 way plug.

by:

Very happy with the wiring. Works well, easy install. less memory then I expected. Nice having power from my tow vehicle to my trailer.

by:

It's been a long while since I've ordered anything from etrailer, but, as usual, you folks came through in flying colors. The package was boxed well, shipped on time and the correct products, that's a real plus in today's internet shopping zone.

by:

Great service as always!! Fast delivery! Etrailer has it all covered with product and install information, they make it easy!!

by:

Everything is as expected! Top quality and rapid delivery. If You need trailer products this is the place!

by:

I have not performed my installation yet but this is to compliment you on your order processing and shipping. This is my second order and everything was well packaged and delivered right on time. I recommend your site to people all the time. Thanks!

by:

Product arrived as promised and everything works great. The staff at etrailer I worked with was fantastic. Thanks, Brian

  • What Would Cause Voltage Drop Between Front of Trailer and Brake Assemblies
Typically if there's a large voltage drop like you mentioned the issue is the longer run of wire not being a heavy enough gauge of wire. You'll need to use 10 gauge wire like 10-1-1 to make the run from the front of the trailer back to the assemblies and you'll see the voltage drop be much smaller.

  • Gauge Wire Recommendation for Wiring up Trailer Brakes
I'd recommend using 10 gauge wire like part # 10-2-1 (sold by the foot) for the brake power and ground wires as this will be more than adequate and will ensure you get plenty of amperage to activate the brakes.

  • Troubleshooting Electric Drum Brakes That Do Not Grip Despite Functioning Magnets
Based on your troubleshooting efforts so far I suggest that you test the trailer brakes without using a vehicle and brake controller; you can test the trailer brakes directly by applying +12V power and ground to the appropriate contacts on the trailer plug. Please refer to the linked photo. A set of jumper cables and 10-gauge wire like # 10-1-1 or # 10-2-1 make it simple enough to "hot wire" the brake circuit with the full power from your vehicle battery or a well-charged spare. If you...

  • Is 14 Gauge Wire Too Small for Electric Trailer Brakes
Yes, 14 gauge wire seems too small. I would go with 10 or 12 gauge. For 10 gauge you can use # 10-1-1 and for 12 gauge use # 12-1-1. These wires are sold in increments of 1 foot. So if you needed 20 feet of wire you would enter 20 in the quantity box. The 12 gauge would be the best option. You mentioned replacing the brakes with the Nev-R-Adjust a year ago. It has probably been long enough, depending on how many miles were put on the trailer, but just to be sure even Nev-R-Adjust brakes...

  • Tekonsha Prodigy Brake Controller Shows S.H Code
If the Tekonsha Prodigy P2 Trailer Brake Controller part # 90885 shows a short in the system in idle conditions then you most likely have a short on the blue brake output wire. I recommend to inspect the blue wire from the brake controller to the back of the vehicle at the 7-way for any frayed or wire insulation cracks. If you find damaged wire you would need to replace it with part # 10-1-1. If the wiring is older, I recommend to check the 7-way plug on the vehicle side and trailer side...

  • Can I Power Lights On My Horse Trailer With a Small Battery Installed on Trailer
The location of where to install the battery really depends on the trailer. Typically it's installed in the tack room area in the front of a horse trailer but it really only matters that it's out of the direct way of the weather and is a place you'd be able to reasonably install the battery. For wiring you'd want to use 10 gauge wire like part # 10-1-1 which is sold by the foot. I'd recommend routing the wire in the same way from your trailer connector along the gooseneck of the trailer....

  • Should Trailer Lighting Ground Wires Run together and Then to Front of Trailer
I'd run the two white, ground wires together and then use a heavier gauge wire like part # 10-1-1 (10 gauge sold by the foot) to the front of the trailer to the main ground harness and you'd be good.

  • Is the 10 Gauge Blue Primary Wire # 10-1-1 UV Outdoor Rated
I spoke with my contact at Redline and he informed me that this 10 Gauge Blue Primary Wire, part # 10-1-1, is rated for general outdoor purpose and would be considered UV exposed outdoor rated. You would not have to worry about UV damage to this wire if you were to use it in an outside application.

  • Troubleshooting RV Electric Brake Assemblies Receiving Different Voltage when Brakes Applied
It's possible that the brake magnets on the underperforming assemblies are bad, as you mentioned in your question. There are a few ways you can test the magnets which are detailed in the article I have attached for you to review. I also recommend looking at the wiring that is going from one side to the other on your trailer. Depending on what gauge wire you are using, switching to a higher gauge like # 10-1-1 might help. Check for any pinched or damaged wires and fix them as needed. The...

  • Troubleshooting Interior Trailer Lights Towed by Silverado Not Active
The interior lights of your trailer would be receiving power from the 12 volt accessory circuit of the 7-way which on Chevy trucks like your 2004 model is most likely just not active and you'd need to make a couple connections under the hood. If you check out the attached help article you can see the connections under the hood you'll need to make.

  • Troubleshooting Brake Controller that Shows False Connection
Sounds like you have a ground somewhere on the brake output circuit of your 7-way wiring. What you need to do first is check the 7-way for any corrosion on the output pin and clean as needed first. Typically when a brake controller is getting a false connection reading the issue is almost always corrosion causing a slight short which confuses the controller into thinking a trailer is connected. Next check the back of the 7-way for any corrosion or exposed wiring and fix as needed. If the...

  • Can Two 6V Batteries be Wired in Series with 7 Foot Distance Between Them
The 7 foot wire between your two 6V batteries may result in a bit of a voltage drop on the output. The exact amount, if any, will also depend on what wire gauge you are using on the batteries. I do recommend using a thicker gauge wire for your application, as this will present less resistance to the current flow to help with this distance. You can use 10 gauge wire like # 10-1-1, which is sold by the foot.

  • Wire Gauge Used to Wire Trailer Mounted Batteries
If the wire you're speaking of is the power feed from the 7-way trailer connector to the battery, then yes # 10-1-1 will work great. If the wires you are speaking of are to power a trailer accessory such as a winch, the gauge of the wire will depend on the amperage draw of the accessory and the distance of the wire run. If you were indeed asking about installing a winch, I've linked a help article on that subject that you'll likely find helpful.

  • Gauge Wire Recommended for Wiring up Trailer Brake Assemblies

  • How Does a Trailer Battery Get Power from Trailer Wiring
To connect a 7-way to a 12 volt battery all you would need to do is run a length of 10 gauge wire like # 10-1-1 (sold by the foot), from the 12 volt accessory post of the 7-way (the 2:00 position), to the positive terminal of the battery. If you have a trailer jack that uses a 7-way style of connector for attaching to the trailer you could easily cut the wire from that connector and run it straight to the battery.

The brakes of your trailer should activate if you pull the pin on your breakaway system. Since it is not and you are getting a message on your brake controller that says to check brake system it would appear that you have a problem on the brake output circuit of your trailer most likely after where the breakaway system attaches to the circuit. You can try running the ground of the assemblies back to the main ground of the trailer, but I suspect that the problem is somewhere on the wiring...

  • Will Trailer 7-Way Charge Line for Trailer and Camper Battery Affect Alternator
The wire that will carry the 12 volt power circuit from your truck battery to the camper and trailer battery will be small enough you wouldn't be putting too heavy of a charge on either battery to really tax your alernator enough to prevent charging the truck battery. The charge on those two batteries would be at most a maintenance charge and would not top of a dead or depleted battery. We do not have any triple hitch setups at this time.

  • Can Trailer Battery Be Charged Through Trailer Wiring Connector
The gauge wire used for the 12 volt pin of a 7-way is light enough that you'd never be able to charge a dead battery on a trailer with it, but if you were in a situation where you had a battery with a solid charge on it that needed to be kept topped off while traveling charging it through the 7-way will work just fine for that. Basically the amperage is so low that it can't really put a heavy enough charge on it to bring a dead battery back to life, but after some light use on a charged...

This typically is caused by a bad or insufficient ground.
