Video Transcript for Feature Breakdown: Jacketed 2 Wire (Brake Wire)

Today, we're going to review part number 12-2-1. This is the Deka Jacketed 12 Gauge 2 Wire Brake Wire. This is sold per foot. This duplex brake wire is made with 2 plastic insulated primary wires right here. You can see it at the end. They are laid parallel and they are covered with this high quality plastic jacket which protects the insulated conductors.

Now each conductor is color coated. You can see black and white. Usually when this is used on brake applications, the black would be your power, the white would be your ground. It gives nice, easy identification. This is designed for use with 50 volts or less. Now each wire gauge is a 12 gauge measurement and this wire is sold per foot.

As you can see right here, I do have 1 foot pulled off but you can order as many feet as you'd like. That should do it for the review on part number 12-2-1. This is the Deka Jacketed 12 Gauge 2 Wire Brake Wire sold per foot. .

Wire and jacketing is tough and correct gauge for the standard RV braking systems.

by:

Forst of all,I received all items on time, and the packaging was undamaged as were the contents. The rims were exactly as I had hoped and I've already had the tires mounted on them. The electric brake wire looks great as well and will be perfect for my project.

by:

Great service won’t ever order from any other trailer parts distributor.

by:

Heavy duty wire for electric brakes. Many manufacturers of trailers use a light wire which doesn’t carry current very well.

by:

It’s wire. What can I say. Bought this when I bought my brakes. Nice to be able to get quality products all from the same place. Great service and price.

by:

Even though I didn’t need the cable,it was a quality cable , and was shipped quickly

by:

I have ordered several things from etrailer and have not yet been dis-satified . Everything is always as described and arrives in excellent condition For anything trailer these guys are the go to guys Prices are as good as it gets and many times with FREE shipping I have rebuilt several vintage trailers and etrailer has been my source for whatever I need to get it on the road and safe

by:

Great products and Great shipping

by:

Perfect for my trailer. The wire arrived on time and I’m very satisfied with Etrailer

by:

great products and service!

by:

Received the items quickly but box and contents were damaged due to poor packaging, wheel bearings were put in a plastic bag and attached to the brake drums which when the load shifted around the 2 brake drums would contact each other and smash into the attached wheel bearing’s and damage them rendering them unusable, now I’ve got my trailer sitting on jack stands with the hubs removed waiting for a claim to be processed so I can get some new wheel bearings shipped to me so I can put everything back together. Come on guys you need to do better at packing things up.

Item is as described. A high quality, heavy gauge, stranded, 2-conductor, jacketed cable.

I Used this cable to connect the electric brakes to the 7 way connector on my trailer. The wires were all color-coded for easy identification.

This cable is durable with a strong outer jacket.

by:

Used this wire to go from front of vehicle to rear, one conductor for the 12-Volt power, the other for the electric brake control.

I use one wire for 12-Vdc and do not use the second wire in the cable. I am using the Curt 7-way Bluetooth controller instead of a cabin mounted controller.

This wiring has held up phenomenally over the past year of installation. I have been underneath the vehicle changing parts and have inspected the insulation jacket while there. Everything looks as good as the day I installed it after a full year of use in Central New York weather. Would highly recommend.

Two years in and the wiring has been switched through three different vehicles and still holding up phenomenally! It was really worth its weight!

by:

The only complaint I have is that my last few orders have been shipped by USPS instead of FEDEX or UPS. I was used to getting my orders much sooner than what the USPS is capable of.

by:

etrailer has been my “go to” for a few years now. Communication is always a top priority and their customer service is second to none! Regarding this Echo, I use it all the time when pulling with our 2019 Subaru Accent and often use it on other vehicles that have older/delayed brake controllers.

by:

I needed to retrofit my twp axel trailer to get it state inspected. I bought everything I needed from etrailer. I love one stop shopping! I was very pleased with the delivery time and the high quality of parts I bought. The brakes work like a charm. The only thing that I would suggest for the company is to recommend break away automatic braking device when selling these brakes. It was required by law in Pa and I had to buy an automatic brake locally.
I would do business with these folks any day. I highly recommend.

by:

Excellent quality and strength. Why skimp on something as important as your hitch? I have purchased three of these Draw Tites - I guess a repeat customer will scream about the true quality a company can garner from repeat customers. When you pull show cars worth six figures, you can't afford a poorly made hitch.
Step up, step out, and don't fret what you are pulling.

by:

I am giving two stars, vs one star, because they did send what was ordered in a timely manner. That said, I will never order from etraler again. The complete lack of thought and concern for packaging the order was shocking. Two brake drum kits (we are talking at least 75 pounds total) were thrown into a larger box, along with 100' of loose brake wire and 4 un-packaged or boxed grease seals. There was zero protective packaging and the actual shipping box was of the same gauge/weight as the boxes the drums came in....medium duty corrugated cardboard at best. Needless to say, the shipping box was semi-opened when it arrived, and 3 of the 4 grease seals were missing. This whole situation was/is unacceptable.

by:

The wire was awesome to use to wire my trailer tail lights with.

Gpopp

5/12/2021

The wire was installed on a 1960 TourAHome and is working well under the trailer, I have not noticed any weathering of the wiring jacket. I still have some in stock for future use.

by:

It is so nice to have wire that I know will be heavy enough and durable enough to actuate brakes to stop a tilt bed trailer with a tracked bobcat and accessories, about 11K pounds. The weenie wire that it replaced made me nervous every time I took the trailer out. Works well. I actually extended it to the second axle and capped it off to use on a future set of brakes for that axle (which I will certainly get from etrailer!)

by:

Used this cable to run power from a voltage reducer to an LED light bar on a 48V golf cart. Fit the bill of what I needed, looks to be good jacket, insulation and wire quality. Installed about 10 months ago and no issues.

by:

I wanted a jacketed wiring for a snowmobile trailer brakes to protect from the elements. Initially thought it was a little expensive, however it's a quality product and I appreciate being able to buy it by the foot.

by:

Good wire. I'll have to order more since I didn't order a long enough piece.

  • How to Connect a Charge Line to a 7-Way Connector
Yes, you can. You will want to connect one end of the ground wire to the Pollak Black Plastic, 7-Pole item # PK12706 and the other end to your cars battery or a suitable grounding location nearby. You'll have to have a ground connected to your Camry for the Battery Charge Wire Kit item # DM66VR to work with the 7-way connector. You will want to use a 12 gauge wire like item # 12-2-1. For the brake wire on your 7,000lb car hauler you will want to use a 12 Gauge Wire # 12-1-1 for the power wire. The ground wire can either be grounded to the frame or you can use the Jacketed 2 Wire # 12-2-1 if you are not using the frame as a ground. You technically can run one hot lead from the battery and split it out before the circuit breakers and it will work. I prefer to use the separate wires like # 12-2-1 just to keep from splicing an additional time. Basically you would be taking the surface area that the current runs down and splitting it instead of giving it the entire pipeline to save a foot or two of wire depending on where you place your circuit breakers. You are correct that Deka Jacketed 7-Wire # DW04914-1 uses 12-gauge conductors for all but the ground wire, which is 10-gauge. There are several variables with trailer brake wiring that we generally do not know when our customers ask about the wire gauge that should be used for re-wiring a trailer's electric brakes. The length of the trailer (and the required wiring) and the number of axles (and brake assemblies) can vary and when we do not know all of the particulars for every installation...
