Video Transcript for Bonded 4 Wire: The Breakdown

Today, we're going to review part number 16-4B-1. This is the Deka bonded four wire per foot. This is a parallel primary wire that has four parallel conductors bonded together by this thermal plastic insulation and each conductor is independently color coded for easy identification. Basically, can see that it has the normal four wire color coding. The green, which is your right turning brake wire. Your yellow which is your left turning brake wire. Your brown, which is your tail lights, and your white, which is your ground. Each wire is a 16 gauge and again, on this part number, the price is per foot.

I have a foot of wire right here so you can order as many feet as you like. This is designed for use with 50 volts or less. That should do it for the review on part number 16-4B-1, the Deka bonded four wire per foot. .

This review covers an earlier purchase of backing plates and brake assemblies for my double axle 16' trailer as well as new wiring for this trailer after repeatedly repairing the wiring purchased from a local store. The brakes work perfectly and the new wiring is so much better than my previous locally purchased wiring. The only problem I have now is remembering to adjust the brakes between the loaded and unloaded trips. Makes the tires last longer!!

Wires are holding up great!! No more breaks or disconnects. This project completes a refitting of my 16 ft car hauler. Earlier parts included brake shoes and backing plates and a new trailer to truck power cable. Very satisfied with all of the items purchased from e-trailer.

Your description on line was the best of anywhere I found. I'm going to make 2 wiring harnesses for my pickup. I'll be towing it behind my motorhome so 1 harness will be from the front bumper to the rear of the bed for a light bar I'm making. Then the 2nd harness will be from the front bumper of the pickup to the rear of my motorhome. I also ordered 2 12" 4 wire loops for each end of the 2 harnesses I'll be making.

They worked out great!

Wire came with cut insulation

by:

Thick heavy gauge wire, with stout insulation.
Not like the thin stuff in a harbor freight light kit.
This is something you will be proud to put on your trailer.

helpful comparison, thanks!

Having all your wiring color coded and matching for accessories on your camper or trailer is a must as far as im concerned. This roll does just that and makes repairs and connections so much easier. It also prevents shorts and incorrect wiring that alone makes it a must have.

by:

Yet another part purchased for my 10K lb trailer build.
I am planning on mounting a waterproof junction box for my wiring, these wires will be used to power all of the lights on the trailer. I will run separate wires for the trailer brakes and battery. The quality of this wire looks to be pretty nice.

by:

Fast delivery - Ordered on 9/29/17 - Received on 10/4/17
As a benefit, wire is 16G rather then the normal 20G you find in the stores that have ready made harnesses.
NOTE for etrailer managers. I am a technical person by nature and speaking only for myself, when I buy and pay for a specific amount of something, I expect to get that amount. I'm not pinching pennies with you here; BUT, I bought 30' of this wire and when I received it, I measured it twice and came up with 29' 10". Most places I've dealt with in the past where I buy wire, angle iron, etc.. would give you a couple of inches or more than you ordered versus a couple of inches shorter than what was ordered. Very stingy in my opinion and not fair to your customers.

This helped make rewiring my trailer very easy .

Trailer gets used twice a month

by:

Excellent product, quality, and exact wire gauge I was looking for. I love that I could buy the exact length I needed without buying an entire spool of wire. I'm using this wire on my utility trailer. I needed to lengthen the trailer wire that connects to the vehicle. I covered the wire with split loom and bought new connectors for both truck and trailer. It looks and functions great! Thanks!

by:

Good product. Recieved order fast.

by:

super fast shipping. exactly what was needed to get my flatbed trailer back on the road. Prices were great and customer support is fantastic. thanks for all the help and great products.

by:

Quality products that allows us to our trailer to automotive OEM standards vs the bound to fail system of the original trailer manufacturer

by:

Worked out well and has held up.

by:

Hi, I am sorry to give you a not so good review but I feel I must be honest. When I received my wire it was in a rat nest I spent some time unknotting it and some of the wires were not connected to the bonded 4 wire by at least 11/2 foot. however the shipping was fast. Thank You David S.

by:

Online ordering was very easy. Customer service emailed updates every step of the delivery process and allowed me to track my order very easily. Everything came in as expected and in great shape. My first experience with Etrailer has been very pleasant! Thank you!

by:

It is wire. However, the length was the reason for ordering as local retail outlets only had 25 foot lengths available and I didn't want splices in the middle of my "toad" taillight connections.

by:

As always my order was received in record time. The products are great quality with some of the best customer service I have ever received. Etrailer goes above and beyond to provide great products as well as very informative technical information.

by:

The wire, rollers and the fenders were all received in good condition; and are installed on the trailer.

Your site was easy to order from, the price was good; and thank you for your promptness in delivering the order.

by:

Great for running to back and front of the flat bed for the two sets of brake lights.

by:

Great people fast service and they take care of any problems you might have

by:

Excellent new wire that I used to completely rewire the trailer. Very good quality, good insulation, nice fresh multi-strand copper wire inside. Superb! Very satisfied!

by:

This wire worked great and is the same gauge on all four wires rather than having a bigger gauge on just the ground like some wire is. I'm glad I ordered the amount I did because I didn't think I would use it but I did.

  • Recommended Parts to Rewire an Old Trailer w/ Brakes
Hey Isaac! While we don't have one specific all in one kit we do have every component you will need to update your trailer's lighting and brakes. I recommend using the Trailer Wiring Kit item # ET7WK. This includes a 7-Way connector, a junction box to provide you with a organized and weather proof storage area for all your wiring connections, and all the necessary hardware. You will then just need additional 16 gauge wiring item # 16-4B-1 for the light circuits and 10 gauge wiring item...

  • Parts Needed To Install A Brake Controller On A 2023 Freightliner Cascadia
You do have the option to utilize the air brakes on your 2023 Freightliner Cascadia to control electric trailer brakes using the Hayes Air Actuated Trailer Brake Controller, part # HA100400C. However, we mostly recommend just using an electric brake controller since they tie into the stop light switch of the tow vehicle, making it irrelevant what kind of brakes it has. For an electric brake controller I recommend the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 # 90195. A very solid, user friendly brake controller....

  • How To Power A Trailer Connector On A Towed Vehicle
Towed vehicle wiring, like the Curt Custom Tail Light Wiring Kit for Towed Vehicles # C96JR, only sends power to the tail lights and wouldn't be sending anything to the trailer connector. You would need to wire a second connector to the back of the Jeep, like part # 47565, and splice it into the tail light wiring with some bonded wire # 16-4B-1 in order to get the signals from the lights for the bike rack.

  • Junction Box and Trailer Lighting Recommendation for 26 Trailer
Often times, people will run the wires from a 7-way such as yours to a junction box like part # 38656. From there, they will run the standard wire colors to the trailer lights, brakes and battery. I have attached a photo that shows how this setup works in the junction box. Most molded 7-way pigtails will come wired with the RV style color code. If you ever need to replace your 7-way connector in the future, you could simply open the junction box, remove the connector and wire loom and install...

For a 4-1/2 inch diameter trailer taillight that can do stop/tail/turn functions we have the part # STL43RB which would work well. For a rubber grommet then we'd need the part # A45GB. Then for a pigtail harness you'd need the part # A47PB. For the 2-1/2 inch amber lights you'd want the part # MCL59AB and for a grommet for this you'd need part # A55GB. For a pigtail for this you'd want part # A46PB. Then for 4-way wiring sold by the foot you'd want the part # 16-4B-1.

  • Replacing 7-Way Connector on Vehicle that Uses Non-Standard Trailer Wiring Colors
Sounds like you are trying to replace a 7-way trailer wiring connector on a vehicle and the vehicle has non-standard wire colors as well as the new wiring harness. Best option will be to test the wires on the vehicle with a circuit tester like part # PTW2993 to determine their function and then wire accordingly to the connector. I attached a diagram that shows how a 7-way normally wires up as well. You'll use this to wire the vehicle wires to once they have been identified.
