Video Transcript for Deka Wiring 16-4B-1 Review

Today, we're going to review part number 16-4B-1. This is the Deka bonded four wire per foot. This is a parallel primary wire that has four parallel conductors bonded together by this thermal plastic insulation and each conductor is independently color coded for easy identification. Basically, can see that it has the normal four wire color coding. The green, which is your right turning brake wire. Your yellow which is your left turning brake wire. Your brown, which is your tail lights, and your white, which is your ground. Each wire is a 16 gauge and again, on this part number, the price is per foot.

I have a foot of wire right here so you can order as many feet as you like. This is designed for use with 50 volts or less. That should do it for the review on part number 16-4B-1, the Deka bonded four wire per foot. .

Your description on line was the best of anywhere I found. I'm going to make 2 wiring harnesses for my pickup. I'll be towing it behind my motorhome so 1 harness will be from the front bumper to the rear of the bed for a light bar I'm making. Then the 2nd harness will be from the front bumper of the pickup to the rear of my motorhome. I also ordered 2 12" 4 wire loops for each end of the 2 harnesses I'll be making.

They worked out great!

Fast delivery - Ordered on 9/29/17 - Received on 10/4/17
As a benefit, wire is 16G rather then the normal 20G you find in the stores that have ready made harnesses.
NOTE for etrailer managers. I am a technical person by nature and speaking only for myself, when I buy and pay for a specific amount of something, I expect to get that amount. I'm not pinching pennies with you here; BUT, I bought 30' of this wire and when I received it, I measured it twice and came up with 29' 10". Most places I've dealt with in the past where I buy wire, angle iron, etc.. would give you a couple of inches or more than you ordered versus a couple of inches shorter than what was ordered. Very stingy in my opinion and not fair to your customers.

This review covers an earlier purchase of backing plates and brake assemblies for my double axle 16' trailer as well as new wiring for this trailer after repeatedly repairing the wiring purchased from a local store. The brakes work perfectly and the new wiring is so much better than my previous locally purchased wiring. The only problem I have now is remembering to adjust the brakes between the loaded and unloaded trips. Makes the tires last longer!!

Wires are holding up great!! No more breaks or disconnects. This project completes a refitting of my 16 ft car hauler. Earlier parts included brake shoes and backing plates and a new trailer to truck power cable. Very satisfied with all of the items purchased from e-trailer.

A good value.

A year later, I have no complaints. Keeping in mind, the wire gets little use abuse...

Good product. Recieved order fast.

by:

Thick heavy gauge wire, with stout insulation.
Not like the thin stuff in a harbor freight light kit.
This is something you will be proud to put on your trailer.

helpful comparison, thanks!

Wire for trailer lights, good product.

by:

Yet another part purchased for my 10K lb trailer build.
I am planning on mounting a waterproof junction box for my wiring, these wires will be used to power all of the lights on the trailer. I will run separate wires for the trailer brakes and battery. The quality of this wire looks to be pretty nice.

by:

Having all your wiring color coded and matching for accessories on your camper or trailer is a must as far as im concerned. This roll does just that and makes repairs and connections so much easier. It also prevents shorts and incorrect wiring that alone makes it a must have.

by:

Excellent product, quality, and exact wire gauge I was looking for. I love that I could buy the exact length I needed without buying an entire spool of wire. I'm using this wire on my utility trailer. I needed to lengthen the trailer wire that connects to the vehicle. I covered the wire with split loom and bought new connectors for both truck and trailer. It looks and functions great! Thanks!

by:

Good prices, good service and quality p roduct.

by:

This helped make rewiring my trailer very easy .

Online ordering was very easy. Customer service emailed updates every step of the delivery process and allowed me to track my order very easily. Everything came in as expected and in great shape. My first experience with Etrailer has been very pleasant! Thank you!

by:

Only improvement it could have would be to label the wire with the functions like you get from Auto Zone.

by:

As always my order was received in record time. The products are great quality with some of the best customer service I have ever received. Etrailer goes above and beyond to provide great products as well as very informative technical information.

by:

super fast shipping. exactly what was needed to get my flatbed trailer back on the road. Prices were great and customer support is fantastic. thanks for all the help and great products.

by:

Good product easy to install just seemed a bit cheap. It was easier than building my own harness.

by:

The wire, rollers and the fenders were all received in good condition; and are installed on the trailer.

Your site was easy to order from, the price was good; and thank you for your promptness in delivering the order.

by:

I ordered 40' of this for re-wiring my 15' trailer (running it down both sides). This wire is solid yet easy to work with, i.e. separating out an individual wire for splicing, bending, snaking inside trailer framing, etc. This wire is color coded with the 4 standard colors for trailer wiring.

by:

I liked the product I purchase from etr ailer.

by:

I am very pleased with the products I have purchased from etrailer. They were shipped right away. Just what I needed. I highly recommend this site.

by:

Excellent new wire that I used to completely rewire the trailer. Very good quality, good insulation, nice fresh multi-strand copper wire inside. Superb! Very satisfied!

by:

It is wire. However, the length was the reason for ordering as local retail outlets only had 25 foot lengths available and I didn't want splices in the middle of my "toad" taillight connections.

by:

Great for running to back and front of the flat bed for the two sets of brake lights.

  • How to Rewire a 7-Way that Got Ripped Off From Trailer
I have done the same thing with trailer 7-ways. I thought I had disconnected everything but drove off and ripped off the 7-way from the trailer. It took me a couple times of this happening for me to really start making sure I had disconnected everything. What you will first need to do is determine the function of each of the wires on your trailer and then wire it to the 7-way using the diagram I attached as a reference. To determine the function of each wire will require you to either...

Since they both stopped working at the same time and the circuits you mentioned draw more amperage than the running light circuits the issue sounds like a bad ground for the trailer lights. Make sure that the trailer and vehicle side connector are clean and free of corrosion inside and out. The main connector grounds should be attached to clean and corrosion free bare metal surfaces. The light grounds should also be attached to clean and corrosion free bare metal surfaces. If there is...

Wishbone running light circuits can easily be used with standard trailer 4-way wiring setups. It sounds like that is how you intended to wire you trailer but I believe you have a couple wires mixed up. From the picture you submitted it looks like you have everything wired up properly as all of the colors match properly. But as I looked up further on the...

  • Wiring Up Trailer 7-Way That Only Has 4 Wires
Looks like your trailer that has a 7-way is only wired up for turn signal functions. This is pretty common so there is nothing to worry about. Since the colors of your trailer wiring aren't standard you would need to wire the connector by function and not color. That being said it looks like the white wire is for ground. What you will need to do is use a jumper wire to run each circuit to a 12 volt battery post to see which circuit illuminates and then wire using the diagram attached....

  • Troubleshooting Trailer Wiring that Stops Working When Headlights Are On
Try improving the connection of the main ground wire of the trailer wiring harness. Make sure it is attached to a clean metal surface. Or you can run all of the trailer wires back to the main ground. This is actually the ideal solution. But you can also check the current grounds for the lights to make sure they are making a solid connection to a clean metal surface. What you described is the classic insufficient ground scenario so finding a way to improve the grounds will fix the problem.

  • Why Do Some Trailer Tail Lights have 3 Wires and Some have 2 Wires
A lot of trailer lights have 3 wires. One wire for running lights, one wire for turn signal and brake lights, and one wire for ground. Check the back of the light assemblies because it might indicate the functions of the wires. Other lights may only have 2 wires. These lights will have a wire for running lights and the other for turn signal and brake lights. There is no ground wire because they ground through the mounting hardware. If you can tell me the manufacturer and model number...

  • Can Trailer 4-Way be Ran to Trailer with 8 Wires for Trailer Wiring
It really just depends on what the wires are for. Most likely you have several ground wires among the 8 as well as a couple running light circuits in there as well. You just have to run all of the wires to the correct circuits. The 4-way wiring of the part # 16-4B-1 has a white wire for ground, a brown for running lights, yellow for left turn/stop, and green for right turn stop. You would just need to identify all of the wires on your trailer and run them accordingly.

In a 4-pole wiring harness the brake and turn signals are combined into one wire, the yellow wire for the left (driver's) side and the green wire for the right (passenger's) side. Running lights, or taillights, are carried on the brown wire for both sides of the vehicle and trailer. Since your lights do all work, just some of them illuminate dimly, chances are that the issue is localized at those specific lights. More often than not, the type of issue you describe is a result of a weak...

The part # 16-4B-1 is sold by the foot so if you needed 45 feet of the wire you'd need to order a quantity of 45 so that you'd get a 45 foot long section. Basically we have a really big spool of this wiring and whatever quantity you order is the length we cut the wire to.

  • Why Does Trailer's Wiring have Two Brown Wires
The brown (running light) wires all run to each other as they carry the same circuit. The reason there is two browns on the trailer side is because there are running lights that are on both sides of the trailer. Aside from that all the rest of the colors match with the white running to the trailer frame as a ground.

  • Why Would Core of Ground Wire of Trailer Wiring Turn Black
A ground wire getting hot and discolored is typically a sign of too much amperage being pulled through the wire. An easy fix for that is to reduce the amperage draw of your trailer's wiring by switching to LED lights or by going with a heavier gauge ground wire that can handle the additional amperage. I attached a page that has all of the LED trailer lights we offer as well.
