Video Transcript for Deka Wiring 16-4B-1 Review

Today, we're going to review part number 16-4B-1. This is the Deka bonded four wire per foot. This is a parallel primary wire that has four parallel conductors bonded together by this thermal plastic insulation and each conductor is independently color coded for easy identification. Basically, can see that it has the normal four wire color coding. The green, which is your right turning brake wire. Your yellow which is your left turning brake wire. Your brown, which is your tail lights, and your white, which is your ground. Each wire is a 16 gauge and again, on this part number, the price is per foot.

I have a foot of wire right here so you can order as many feet as you like. This is designed for use with 50 volts or less. That should do it for the review on part number 16-4B-1, the Deka bonded four wire per foot. .

Wire came with cut insulation

Worked out well and has held up.

by:

Great people fast service and they take care of any problems you might have

by:

Quality products that allows us to our trailer to automotive OEM standards vs the bound to fail system of the original trailer manufacturer

This review covers an earlier purchase of backing plates and brake assemblies for my double axle 16' trailer as well as new wiring for this trailer after repeatedly repairing the wiring purchased from a local store. The brakes work perfectly and the new wiring is so much better than my previous locally purchased wiring. The only problem I have now is remembering to adjust the brakes between the loaded and unloaded trips. Makes the tires last longer!!

Comments
Wires are holding up great!! No more breaks or disconnects. This project completes a refitting of my 16 ft car hauler. Earlier parts included brake shoes and backing plates and a new trailer to truck power cable. Very satisfied with all of the items purchased from e-trailer.

Your description on line was the best of anywhere I found. I'm going to make 2 wiring harnesses for my pickup. I'll be towing it behind my motorhome so 1 harness will be from the front bumper to the rear of the bed for a light bar I'm making. Then the 2nd harness will be from the front bumper of the pickup to the rear of my motorhome. I also ordered 2 12" 4 wire loops for each end of the 2 harnesses I'll be making.

Comments
They worked out great!

Thick heavy gauge wire, with stout insulation.
Not like the thin stuff in a harbor freight light kit.
This is something you will be proud to put on your trailer.

helpful comparison, thanks!

Yet another part purchased for my 10K lb trailer build.
I am planning on mounting a waterproof junction box for my wiring, these wires will be used to power all of the lights on the trailer. I will run separate wires for the trailer brakes and battery. The quality of this wire looks to be pretty nice.

Fast delivery - Ordered on 9/29/17 - Received on 10/4/17
As a benefit, wire is 16G rather then the normal 20G you find in the stores that have ready made harnesses.
NOTE for etrailer managers. I am a technical person by nature and speaking only for myself, when I buy and pay for a specific amount of something, I expect to get that amount. I'm not pinching pennies with you here; BUT, I bought 30' of this wire and when I received it, I measured it twice and came up with 29' 10". Most places I've dealt with in the past where I buy wire, angle iron, etc.. would give you a couple of inches or more than you ordered versus a couple of inches shorter than what was ordered. Very stingy in my opinion and not fair to your customers.

by:

Having all your wiring color coded and matching for accessories on your camper or trailer is a must as far as im concerned. This roll does just that and makes repairs and connections so much easier. It also prevents shorts and incorrect wiring that alone makes it a must have.

by:

Excellent product, quality, and exact wire gauge I was looking for. I love that I could buy the exact length I needed without buying an entire spool of wire. I'm using this wire on my utility trailer. I needed to lengthen the trailer wire that connects to the vehicle. I covered the wire with split loom and bought new connectors for both truck and trailer. It looks and functions great! Thanks!

by:

Good product. Recieved order fast.

by:

Online ordering was very easy. Customer service emailed updates every step of the delivery process and allowed me to track my order very easily. Everything came in as expected and in great shape. My first experience with Etrailer has been very pleasant! Thank you!

This helped make rewiring my trailer very easy .

super fast shipping. exactly what was needed to get my flatbed trailer back on the road. Prices were great and customer support is fantastic. thanks for all the help and great products.

by:

Hi, I am sorry to give you a not so good review but I feel I must be honest. When I received my wire it was in a rat nest I spent some time unknotting it and some of the wires were not connected to the bonded 4 wire by at least 11/2 foot. however the shipping was fast. Thank You David S.

by:

The wire, rollers and the fenders were all received in good condition; and are installed on the trailer.

Your site was easy to order from, the price was good; and thank you for your promptness in delivering the order.

by:

It is wire. However, the length was the reason for ordering as local retail outlets only had 25 foot lengths available and I didn't want splices in the middle of my "toad" taillight connections.

by:

Excellent new wire that I used to completely rewire the trailer. Very good quality, good insulation, nice fresh multi-strand copper wire inside. Superb! Very satisfied!

by:

I ordered 40' of this for re-wiring my 15' trailer (running it down both sides). This wire is solid yet easy to work with, i.e. separating out an individual wire for splicing, bending, snaking inside trailer framing, etc. This wire is color coded with the 4 standard colors for trailer wiring.

by:

Great for running to back and front of the flat bed for the two sets of brake lights.

by:

Wonderful customer support from Will in ordering and installation.

by:

Item looked to be of good quality. Ended up being too short for my application I was using it for. 3-foot measurement is from the plug end to the end of the cable and this includes the already stripped area of insulation on the end.

by:

As always my order was received in record time. The products are great quality with some of the best customer service I have ever received. Etrailer goes above and beyond to provide great products as well as very informative technical information.

by:

I ordered this to re-wire my horse trailer. product arrived as described! Fast shipping and excellent customer service!

  • Standard Color Code for Wiring Simple 4 Wire Trailer Lighting
You have it right so far, the 4-way connector is just as you have stated. Remember that Yellow has a L in it so that is the left side brake/turn signal and green has a R in it so that is the right side brake/turn signal. The colors for wiring a 7-way connector are as follows with the 4 colors of the 4-way connector remaining the same. White-Ground Brown-Tail/Running Lights Green-Right Turn/Brake - Remember green has an R in it Yellow-Left Turn/Brake - Remember yellow has an L in it Blue-Brake...

  • Trailer 4-Way Wiring Harness has 2 Wires Coming Out of Running Light Pin
It sounds like you have a wishbone harness. A wishbone harness has 2 wires for the running light circuit, one for each side of the trailer. That way you do not have to run a jumper wire from one side of the trailer to the other for running lights on both sides. These two running light wires will be spliced together to connect to the single running light wire on a 4-Way. Yellow/brown would be for the left side and green/brown the right side. On a 4-Way, trailer side, the covered pin is...

  • Troubleshooting Clearance Lights that Blink with the Turn Signals
It sounds like your clearance lights are run to the stop/turn signal circuit instead of being run to the running light circuit. I would recommend you verify the wiring of your trailer and make sure that you have the correct circuit run to your clearance lights. The running light circuit is typically a brown wire and the circuit right next to the ground circuit that is jacketed on the 4-way. Check out the FAQ article I attached on trailer wiring also.

  • Troubleshooting Running Light Circuit on Trailer
The first step in troubleshooting your trailer taillights would be to determine if the problem is on the vehicle, or in the trailer wiring. Start first by using a circuit tester like part # 40376. Turn on the vehicle headlights, and use the tester to check the pin on the trailer connector that carries the running light circuit. If you have a 4-pole connector, test the pin fed by the brown wire. If you have a 7-way, check the pin in the 11:00 position. If you get a signal on that pin, the...

  • Troubleshooting Trailer Light Malfunctions - Running Lights Not Working But Everything Else Is
If the turn signals are working properly on your boat, but the running lights do not work, then this is most likely a ground issue. The turn signals and brake signals do not require a constant power like what is needed for the running lights. So this is usually when grounding issues become apparent. Since everything is new on your boat trailer, I would check to see if the ground wire on the trailer is grounded to an appropriate metal surface. Boat trailers are commonly made of aluminum,...

  • After Replacing 4-Way Trailer Connector the Trailer Running Lights Do Not Work
Your trailer has what is called a wishbone harness. This means that it has 2 running light wires (brown), one for each side of the trailer. These harnesses are used so you do not have to run a jumper wire from one side of the trailer to the other to get running lights to both sides. Since you have connected the 2 brown wires together and are not getting any running lights, I suspect there is a ground problem or a bad connection at the connector on the running light circuit. Make sure...

  • Troubleshooting Malfunctioning Left Turn Signal on a Boat Trailer
If the connector on your van seems damaged, you should by all means replace it. The symptoms you mention also would lead me to believe you might have an insufficient or weak ground connection somewhere in the system. Check the point on the trailer tongue where the ground from the trailer connector attaches. Make sure this connection is secure and not corroded. Check the connections for each lamp, as well. A trailer lamp will either have a separate ground wire that grounds to the trailer...

  • Troubleshooting Left Side Running Lights Not Working When Brake Lights Activated
It sounds like there is a ground issue somewhere on the trailer. A weak ground will typically show itself when there is more draw on a system, such as when you have the running lights on and then need power the brake lights on top of that. First check to make sure the main ground on the trailer wiring harness is secured to a clean, bare metal surface that is free of any corrosion or debris/paint. If the main ground is good, I recommend checking the ground connection on the left side tail...

  • Wiring New 4-Way Connector on Trailer with 5 Wires
The colors you mentioned are white for ground, yellow for left turn/stop, green for right turn/stop, brown for running light which means that brown with yellow is for the left side running light and brown with green is for right side running light. I attached a help article on trailer wiring for you to check out as well.

  • Why Does Trailer's Wiring have Two Brown Wires
The brown (running light) wires all run to each other as they carry the same circuit. The reason there is two browns on the trailer side is because there are running lights that are on both sides of the trailer. Aside from that all the rest of the colors match with the white running to the trailer frame as a ground.

  • Troubleshooting Trailer Lights That Only Work When Standing On Trailer Hitch
It sounds like you have a classic ground issue somewhere on your trailer wiring. Since there is a weak ground on the trailer the ground is being completed by the hitch ball/coupler connection, and the additional tongue weight you create when standing on the hitch is essentially improving this connection. Check to make sure the main connector ground wire on the trailer is secured to a clean, bare metal surface. It might be worth it to remove the wire and sand down where you have it attached...

  • Identifying Wire Color Functions on Trailer with 4-Way Wiring
The trailer wiring you have represents two very common color standards. green will be right turn/stop white is ground yellow is left turn stop brown is running light The new wires that have brown and yellow or green are the running light circuit but designated to either side of the trailer. The green and brown is for the right side and yellow and brown is for the left side.

  • Wiring New 3 Wire Light on Trailer to Replace 2 Wire Light
I can't be certain what the function for each of the wires are on your new trailer lights, but one of the three wires is likely for ground. Your old/existing trailer lights grounded through their mounting hardware, which is why they only had two wires and didn't need a third for a ground connection. If you turn the light assembly over, the functions for each wire should hopefully labeled somewhere. The most likely scenario is that the black wire is for ground, the green wire is for stop/turn...

  • Solution for Needing Trailer Lighting that Won't Ground Through Hardware
Your idea is exactly what I would recommend. The lights ground through the hardware but not all trailers are capable of supporting this so running a jumper wire from the mounting hardware to the ground circuit of the trailer harness's ground is the correct solution.

  • Why isn't 5-Way Bonded Wire Sold by Foot
I really wish we had bonded 5-way wiring but we only have 4-way wiring like part # 16-4B-1 which is sold by the foot. Since the fifth circuit normally runs to a reverse lockout that is right at the front of the trailer normally it's not needed to have wiring that runs all the way back to the rear of a trailer.

On the left side the black wire gets ran to the yellow wire and then on the right to the green.
