Video Transcript for Review of Deka Wiring - 16-14 Gauge Butt Connectors - DW05744-10

Hello everybody. This is [email protected] Today, we'll take a look at the DECA blue butt connectors, for the 16 to 14 gauge size wire. It is for a quantity of 10. Now, these blue butt connectors will join two lengths, of 16 gauge or 14 gauge size wire, and they'll insulate the connection with the heat Shrinkable nylon, for adjustability and durability. Now, the blue color will indicate the size wire that this connector will fit, which is the 16 to 14 gauge size.

And if you don't remember what size the color is, you can just look on them and they're stamped on there, 16 to 14 AWG. Now, to install your wires in this, What you'll do is, get your two wires you want to connect, and you'll strip off about a quarter of an inch of the insulation on each end, and you'll take the first wire, and you'll slide it into the tubing, all the way until it won't go any further. Basically, there's this metal casing in the middle, and right in the center is a stopper. So when you push the wire in, it'll hit that and stop, so then you just make sure your stripped wire is underneath the metal casing. Take your crimper, crimp down on that metal casing, to make your connection.

And then, you'll do the same for the second wire on the other side, take the strip, then push it all the way until it'll go no further, make sure it's under the metal casing, take your crimper, crimp down on it, and then they'll both be crimped. And then, what you'll want to do is probably grab each wire, and just pull on both of them or just tug on it slightly, to make sure you have a nice, good connection. Once that's all done, you have a good connection, then you'll take a heat source, like a heat gun and then you just apply heat over this whole installation, and that'll cause this heat shrink insulation to completely shrink and seal around the connection, and prevent the elements from causing any problem with your wire connection. Now, this part number is for a quantity of 10 connectors. We do also sell this in a single piece, which is part number DW05744-1, and a five-pack, which is part number DW05744-5.

But that should do it, for the review on the DECA blue butt connectors, for the 16 to 14 gauge size wire for a quantity of 10..

I want to thank you for all your help with my trailer you were more helpful than you realize. So this is my trailer for a 22' Flats Cat shallow draft Catamaran. I totally dismantled my trailer and buffed by hand with a wire buffer and sand blasted in some spots and applied multiple coats of some very expensive galvanize paint (Z.R.C.). I installed all new C. E. Smith Carpet (about 80'), seven new LED waterproof lights, new springs, new equalizers, new tongue jack, new wench, new safety chain, new chain brackets, all new SS hardware and a 35' long wiring harness.
I was able to send only one review with a picture of the safety chain and brackets. I'm having a little trouble with the rest..oh some of these items were bought locally or from your competitors, until I found ETRAILER. Your prices were cheaper for the exact same things. Your helpful how to videos were helpful. And Rose, your personal helpful knowledge made my buying experience very pleasant, I actually enjoyed talking to you! Thanks to ETRAILER and specifically to Rose G.

Just upgraded to a 2016 Odyssey and need to tow my camper.
Purchased the OEM hitch and OEM custom harness (from car to 4 pin on hitch. OEM Hitch comes with nice beefy flange where the 4 pin connector mounts. But I needed a 7 pin for electric brakes and bought this ETBC7 kit to do the job.

I ended up cutting a custom hole in the bumper cover and figuring a way to mount the bracket in this kit directly to the OEM hitch. Wanted to share photos of the install for anyone else in the same boat. Advantage of my install is that the 7 pin is mounted above the bracket, protecting it from injury from low clearance obstacles on the road. One Con, is I had to mount it upside down so it didn't interfere with the metal bumper under the bumper cover.

One issue I remember is that the Ground wire on the 7 pin harness didn't come close to reaching an available frame member, at the side of the car. I had to cut off the ring lug and extend it out to the edge of the car to complete the install. But it is done now!

Didn’t end up needing these but I have no reason to not rate them 5

I don't usually do product reviews but wanted to post this one. This was my first purchase from etrailer. I purchased all four brake assemblies for our 5th wheel which I felt was the easiest and best way to go and had my drums machined. It was a very easy transaction, the parts came quickly and fit as they should. Very pleased with the product although I have not put the trailer on the road yet.
BUT- The packaging was very poor. The assemblies were in a carton twice as big as it needed to be without adequate packing and the items rattled around to the point that two shoes were knocked out of place on the backing plates. I was able to correct it and no damage done, this time. Please improve your packaging.
I would definitely buy from etrailer again.

Worked very well on a trailer tongue replacement rewire.

by:

With the instructions provided, a left handed monkey could hook it up. Works perfectly

by:

Have to have a helper ride in tow vehicle to adjust the sensitivity to match the RV breaking force. Example, you don’t want the tow vehicle trying to stop your RV. Just want it to stop it’s own forward motion. Once that’s done it’s ready to tow with no worries. Had 2 radio remote braking systems fail us which is why we went with the permanent one that’s wired up to RV.

High quality parts, expert guidance from eTrailer, competetive pricing!

I like them.

I thought it took a little more heat than they should to melt. Other than they work fine.

Easy install, nice quality set up.

The connectors worked as expected.

Great for my lighting upgrade project for my trailer.

I purchased a 5th wheel wiring harness and heat shrink butt connectors,
for my 2015 GMC Sierra. I installed a tail gate light bar and did not want to cut the factory wiring. With the harness I was able to plug into the factory trailing plug
and butt connect to the light bar, while still being able to use both the 7 blade and flat trailer connectors. It made for a easy and very clean connection. thank you to
Steve and the E trailer web site for helping make this a easy job.

Lights worked great and connectors did the job.

Worked great for installing the trailer connector on our Chevy Colorado. It's nice to get all the supplies for your project from one place. Shipping was fast. Had the order in two days!

by:

Being a new boat owner I was quickly overwhelmed by what I didn't know. Re-wiring, re-lighting my trailer was my first project. etrailer has a wide range of products, but most important to me, was their added product information and instructional information which helped me make the right selections to get this done. Add to that is their very competitive prices. etrailer will be my go to source for my future trailer needs.

by:

I bought these based on an installation video on etrailer for RVST50 (trailer brake/signal lights). In the video they used these. They are for 16-14 gauge wire. The wiring in the lights is 18 gauge. I’m not an expert, wasn’t sure if I could use them, so I just ended up going to Home Depot and getting the correct size. The product itself is as described.

I found etrailer a few weeks ago while searching for items to repair my boat trailer. Since then, I've made 4 or so purchases from them. Each transaction was perfect and stress-free. They respond promptly with emails updating the progress of the transaction, respond quickly to any email inquiries, ship almost immediately, and follow up after delivery. I've since recommended etrailer to friends who have the need for their service. It's a pleasant surprise to stumble across an awesome internet site such as etrailer, where reasonable prices and customer satisfaction are important to them.

by:

Received my towbar, Airforce One and lighting kit in less than a week! Great videos and knowledgeable people, can't wait to get everything installed this week and get on the road. Thanks Susan and George for such a wonderful experience.

by:

Easy to use and heat shrinking was uniform and complete with minimal effort.

by:

Easy replacement. Working great

by:

I used everything I ordered with the exception of the harness (it was a fuse, not the harness, hey, I'm new to this). I ran into a small glitch but Michael Howell's EXCELLENT knowledge and customer service helped me get it fixed almost immediately. The trailer is good as new now and all the lights work perfectly. Thanks etrailer!

by:

Everything arrived in good condition. Only thing that could have been better for me would have been installation instruction sheet. I was able to get that information from the web site. Have bought from etrailer before and never have had problems.

  • Reasoning To Reinstall T-Connector that Has Sides Reversed
I was able to pull up your order to see you have the Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector C56150 which has since been discontinued. Connecting the green side of this T-connector to the drivers side tail light won't effect the stop light function on your trailer, but will reverse the turn signal functions on your trailer. So, you definitely want to disconnect the harness and reconnect it on the correct side. Until you are able to do this, your vehicle...

  • Can I Wire My Backup Camera System into the Vehicle's 7 Way Trailer Plug
There isn't a specific product for this application but you could splice into your trailer wiring harness to provide power for your backup camera. The best solution for you on this is going to be to splice into the running light circuit on the 7 way connector, so that all you'll have to do is turn the lights on the truck on in order to activate the camera; using the 12v aux circuit would draw power from the battery constantly and likely drain the battery. The running light/tail light circuit...

Your Tekonsha Prodigy P2 Trailer Brake Controller # 90885 thinks there's a short somewhere in the wiring. My first recommendation is to check the ground, as this is usually the cause of nearly all wiring issues. Ensure that you have a proper ground (i.e touching bare metal). Next would be to check all the connections to ensure there isn't any loose wires that could potentially be touching and pulling apart and then touching again, giving you the "S.H" error code. I went out to the warehouse and used our wire gauge measuring tool to measure the wiring on Low Profile RV Combination Tail Light # RVSTL61. It falls between 16 and 18 gauge wire so at the tightly wound ends it would measure a little smaller. So in other words 16 gauge. You can use 14 or 16 gauge wire for your marker and tail lights on your camper. I recommend using the Deka 14 gauge jacket wire # DW04923-1 because it's insulated for abrasion and chemical resistance. Having more marker lights means more draw on your circuit, and the reason I would go with the 14 gauge wire is because it can handle more amp draw. You also may need heat shrink butt connectors like # DW05744-10 to join lengths together. I included an installation video and video review...

You could easily replace the worn out 4-way on your trailer with a new 7-way. For that you would want the part # H20043.
