Video Transcript for Complete Breakdown of the Ring Terminal

Hello, everybody. This is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today we're gonna take a look at this 5/16 inch yellow ring terminal for a 12 to 10 gauge size wire. Now the ring terminal here is used for all types of electrical work where wires need fastening to a stud. Usually it connects to the end of a bare wire to give a better electrical connection to that stud. Now this part here is designed to attach a 12 or 10 gauge size wire to a stud size of 5/16 of an inch diameter.

Basically, your bare wire will insert into this brass sleeve portion of the terminal and then it's secured by crimping it into place. The ring terminals, you can see, are color coded using the vinyl insulation sleeve. This one you can see is a yellow color, which means it's designed to fit the 12 gauge to 10 gauge size wire. They also offer them in a blue color, which will fit a 16 to 14 gauge size wire, and a red color, which will fit a 22 to 18 gauge size wire. Basically, the higher the wire gauge number is, the smaller the size of the wire is.

But that should do it for the review on the 5/16 inch yellow ring terminal for the 12 to 10 gauge size wire.

Works as advertised.

Works as described. Spoke with Madison about my order and she was very helpful and addressed all my questions. etrailer has always had what I needed.

by:

The manufacturer of my trailer screwed the grounding wire for the trailer into the tongue of the trailer using a self-tapping screw. That lasted about two months before the wire snapped free. Instead of having that happen again, I used this product by crimping the grounding wire to the but end and then I placed the cotter pin from the trailer coupler through the loop and the wire from that pin makes constant contact with the loop, allowing grounding. Worked like a charm and there's no tension on the grounding wire anymore.

Ordered several things to hook up trailer brake controller on my 2014 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited. Everything was promptly shipped and at a fair price.
Will use etrailer.com again, if I have the need.

Im all thumbs and was able to totally rewire my trailer in an hour or so. No problems. I am legal again with my lights!! Thanks.

  • Replacement Power Wire Parts for Tekonsha Wiring Kit on a 2018 Ford Focus
Hey Victor, thanks for reaching out! To replace the power wiring that comes with the Tekonsha T-One # 118548 wiring kit for your 2018 Ford Focus you need the following: - 12 Gauge Wire # 12-1-1 (sold by the foot) - In-Line Fuse Holder # C58470-1 - 10 Amp Fuse (found in kit # PT52FR) - Connectors # DW05745-5 and # 44-5356A You can probably find a kit at your local hardware/home improvement store that includes the 10 Amp fuse and connectors and unfortunately there isn't a whole kit...

Hi Reuel, The Buyers Products 2-Way Die-Cast Zinc Trailer Connector # 337TC1012 pins are labeled positive and negative on both the front and back. To connect the wires you'll just need to remove the two bolts in the back and slip on some ring terminals # 44-5356A and then rethread the bolts back into the socket.

I would be happy to go over everything you need to flat tow your 2019 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk with your 2019 Forest River Forester. Unfortunately the Blue Ox Base Plate Kit # BX1143 you mentioned is not compatible with your Blue Ox Alexxa Tow Bar BX7435 due to it requiring base plates with a different bracket spacing, so you will need a new tow bar as there is not a base plate kit available that will work with your tow bar.. I still recommend going with the # BX1143 but instead recommend...

  • Trailer Brake Controller Installation in 2014 Jeep Wrangler JK
Your 2014 Jeep Wrangler JK does not have a plug-in brake controller port under the dash so wiring in a controller like the Prodigy P3 # 90195 will require hardwiring. We offer a complete installation kit # ETBC7 that includes all the parts needed, including a 7-way. Although you have a 7-way socket now, its not a bad idea to have a spare on hand. The kit includes the duplex wiring to bring brake and 12V power signals to your trailer connector, and circuit breakers and connectors to install...

  • Will SMI Stay-IN-Play DUO Drain Battery on 2006 Jeep Liberty While Flat Towing
Since the SMI Stay-IN-Play DUO Supplemental Braking System # SM99251 uses power from your 2006 Jeep Liberty's battery to engage the compressor, it is possible that the Stay-IN-Play could potentially drain the vehicle's battery over the course of a number of hours. We have not heard reports from our customers on this, but it is a possibility. I was not able to find any known issues of the Liberty's battery being drained while in tow mode in the vehicle's owner's manual. One thing that...

  • Cost Effective Wiring To Install 7-Way For Curt Echo Controller on 2008 BMW X5 With Battery in Trunk
The Curt Trailer Connector Adapter part # C57672 can certainly be used to install a 7-Way on the 2008 BMW X5 to use the Curt Echo Wireless Brake Controller part # C51180 instead of the kit part #ETBC7L. I recommend to use the Curt trailer connector part # C57672 and the Power Wire Kit for Electric Trailer Brake Controllers part # BRK-ELECKIT because it has a shorter amount (10 feet) of 12 gauge wire since your battery is in rear cargo area. This kit also comes with all of the components...

  • Brake Controller Troubleshooting, Recommendation and Installation on 2019 Jeep Compass
Are you speaking of the Tekonsha Prodigy RF? If so, the trailer connector on the vehicle needs funtional lighting circuits and a 12-volt constant power supply to the pin on the 7-way trailer that's in the 1:00 position. Assuming that you're using an adapter such as the # 37185, you'd plug the 4 pin plug on the adapter into the corresponding plug on the vehicle, ground the white wire to the vehicle chassis or frame and extend the black wire so it'll reach the vehicle's positive battery terminal....
