Today we're going to be taking a look at and showing you how to use the Hopkins Trailer Wiring Solution Kit with Circuit Tester. Part number HM51000. It comes with this nice reclosable case that you can keep in your glove box, so if you ever go out to the lake and your lights didn't work you'd have a way to test them and repair them. It's going to come with this nice LED test light. It will work for low voltage and for regular 12 volt power. It has some electrical tape, it will have a couple of ring loop terminals of various sizes, and a couple of self tapping screws if we had to replace a ground wire. It also has some quick connects.
A little bit of dialectric 00:00:44 grease if you we're having to change out a bulb, you'd want to put some of that on the socket so you keep all of your corrosion and rust out of there. You'll have a new cover for your four flat connector, and some zip ties. This would be a great thing to keep either in your boat or in your truck in the glove box, so if you ever have a wiring problem and you're on the road, you can just pull this out and repair it. Now you can see we're testing our lights on our trailer. We've got one that's out with our power on. We're going to take our test light that's included with our kit.
We're going to find a suitable ground and we're going to take our LED tester. We'll check our wire. This one's got power, so that's going to be our power wire. We're going to turn off the power, and we can go ahead and connect up our wire. I'm going to go ahead and strip back our wiring about a quarter inch. We're going to take one of our blue butt 00:01:38 connectors that came with our kit.
Place it in there. We're going to give it a nice crimp. You want to get a nice set of crimpers. That way you don't over crimp or under crimp your connection. We'll slide it in the other side.
Now we can tape up that connection, and we'll go after our ground. We want to tape it up to keep all the moisture and corrosion out of our connection. We know this other wire is going to be our ground, so we're going to go ahead and connect them back together. Strip it back as well. Take our other blue butt connector, slide it into position, give it a little bit of a tug. Make sure it's connected good. You always want to make sure you have the proper crimp, so you don't have the wires fall out. If you over crimp it you can break the wires inside our connector. We're going to go ahead and put our electrical tape on our ground wire here. Then we're going to test our system to make sure our light works. We know we have power. If it's not working, more than likely, it's going to be a bad bulb. We'll go ahead and test it. Tuck our wires back away. That took care of our wiring repair rather painlessly, with the help of our new Hopkins kit. That's going to do it for our look at the Hopkins Trailer Wiring Installation Kit with Circuit Tester. Part number HM51000.
