Something is miswired or shorting for sure. Definitely don't want to have the steps out while moving! I have included some pictures that should help. Do your steps operate with a manual override switch? If so then it is likely that switch. If the steps are supposed to lock out or unlock automatically when the ignition is turned on then it is likely the ignition wire in one of the connectors for the steps. view full answer...
