The breakaway battery that is designed to work with the Hopkins Engager Breakaway Box # HM20121 is the Hopkins Breakaway Kit Replacement 12V Battery # HM20008.
To provide you with both the Hopkins Engager Breakaway Box # HM20121 and a breakaway battery, I recommend going with the Engager Trailer BreakAway Kit # 20099. The battery included in the kit is a 12V, 5-amp hour battery that is designed to power the trailer's brakes for 15 full minutes in a breakaway situation. A break-away switch... view full answer...
Since the charger is already included with the kit, you do not need to purchase one separately with the Hopkins breakaway kit you asked about:
- Hopkins Engager Push-To-Test Trailer Breakaway Kit w/ Built-In Charger # 20099
The built-in charger on the Engager is designed to prevent the battery from over-charging, and it also includes the very handy push-button test that will tell you if the battery is low, charging, or fully charged.

A trailer breakaway system must have a dedicated battery on the trailer. If it did not have its own battery the breakaway system would not operate if the trailer connector disconnected from the vehicle. A dedicated breakaway battery is required so that an uncoupled trailer's brakes will activate to bring it to a stop, but a second backup battery on the trailer is not required.
I linked our main page for trailer breakaway kits. We offer basic kits like # C52026 and kits with a built-in... view full answer...
Generally a breakaway kit is installed mounting the battery to the frame but it doesn't have to be. We carry a few different chargers separate from the kits themselves and I've linked our selection for you.
The most popular of the chargers if the Hopkins # 20011. To install the Hopkins charger the black wire connects to the power coming from the vehicle battery, the red wire to the breakaway kit's battery, and the blue to the pin.

Breakaway pins are not universal, so you wouldn't be able to replace your pin with another brand. However, breakaway switches are universal, so you can mix and match them to work with your UPG Model 42914 breakaway kit.
With that being said, your best bet is to use the Hopkins Replacement Break-Away Switch, 44" Lead Wires # HM20014 and replace the entire switch. view full answer...
Our most popular breakaway kit is the Hopkins Engager # 20099.
It works with tandem axle trailers and has a built-in charger with a battery tester.

Yes! The only model we carry that is compatible with a 3-axle trailer and has a test light/charger on the battery case is the Curt Push-To-Test Trailer Breakaway Kit with Built-In Battery Charger - Top Load # C52044. I went ahead and attached a demo video that walks you through the features. It is important to note that you need to have a brake controller that works specifically with electric over hydraulic brakes in order for this breakaway to be compatible with your setup. view full answer...
Unless your state requires a 9AH battery you actually only need a 5AH battery for a HydraStar EOH actuator. For example, the HydraStar # HBA16 which is rated for disc brakes is compatible with a 5AH breakaway battery kit.
Since you need a breakaway battery kit that is compatible with up to a triple axle trailer I recommend the Tekonsha # 50-85-313 because it has a built-in charger, is a top load so it's easy to read, comes with a test button, and is DOT compliant. I recommend going with the Hopkins Engager Push-To-Test Trailer Breakaway Kit with Built-In Battery Charger # 20400. This breakaway kit has a push to test feature which clearly displays the battery status, will work with single and tandem axle trailers, and includes a 12V rechargeable battery. view full answer...
If you are needing a breakaway kit for your Myco trailer then I highly recommend the Tekonsha Push-to-Test Trailer Breakaway Kit # 50-85-313.
It features a test button that lights up an LED light which indicates if the battery is fully charged, charging, or recharging, plus it has a built-in battery charger. You will need to purchase a mounting bracket, like part # 50-85-115, separately. Tekonsha is one of the most reliable manufacturers that we know of when it comes to electronics. If you just want to replace the trailer's 7-way blade-type wiring (but not all of its lights) you can do this most easily with a 7-way junction box like # e99011, which includes a 7-way plug and cord. Kit # HS381-9000 also includes the necessary butt connectors and ring terminals, and wire loom too, so this will be the easier option.
We also offer complete trailer breakaway systems, like the Hopkins Engager # 20099, that will activate your electric brakes in the event of an accidental... view full answer...
You can use electric brakes like part # AKEBRK-7-SA (for 5.2K - 7K axles) along with an electric breakaway kit like the Hopkins Engager # 20400 to add a breakaway system to your 1999 Featherlite gooseneck trailer.
Since I'm not quite sure the weight capacity of your axle(s) or if you have hub/drums already I would need to know this information before I could make any specific recommendations. If you are just looking for a breakaway kit then the Engager that I mentioned above is a great... view full answer...

We typically recommend going with 10 Gauge Wire # 10-1-1 and Butt Connectors # DW05745-5 for the battery 12V power just to allow as much power to "flow" through it as possible. That's what I recommend using for the installation of your Tekonsha Breakaway Battery Kit # 20020.
You won't need to place a fuse or a circuit breaker on your trailer side of things. view full answer...
Happy 4th to you as well, Jerry!
Since you already have your 2017 Toyota Tundra set up for electric brakes you just need to add an electric-over-hydraulic (EOH) actuator and the breakaway battery kit. Here is what I recommend for your application:
- Actuator for Drum Brakes # HS381-8066
- Actuator for Disc Brakes # HS381-8067
- Breakaway Battery Kit # 20400

I may have a solution for you, but the largest breakaway system battery we offer comes with a 10 amp hour battery # BRW87FR; the complete system is the Bright Way Push-to-Test Trailer Breakaway Kit with 2-Amp Charger and 10 Ah Battery - Top Load # 3802311.
I'm not aware of a breakaway system that uses a battery that large and this would be the best solution we have available for this. view full answer...
Part # PTW2997 works great for charging your breakaway battery when the trailer is not in use. This product is easy to hook up and fairly inexpensive compared to the price of a new battery. I strongly recommend this product.
We do not carry any breakaway kits that include a solar panel but adding this unit will keep your battery charged on the trailer while it is being stored. When you are going to tow, you can unhook the unit from the battery and it will be good to go while towing. view full answer...
First you will need a Trailer Breakaway Kit # C52042. This will include a breakaway battery and breakaway switch. As long as you still have the 7-way # HM20048 and a Junction Box # 38656 still on your trailer you will only need 12 Gauge Wire # 12-1-1 to run from the junction box to the brake assemblies. If you are missing anything else from the trailer please let me know and I can point you in the correct direction. Be sure to inspect the brakes as there could be something wrong with them... view full answer...
