One way to identify the roof material type without removing it from your roof is to go to your vent fan and remove the inside trim cover. Manufacturers will typically pull it down and staple it to the vent opening. After speaking with out expert install team I would NOT recommend patching or replacing only part of the membrane. It will just set you up for future leaks and other problems where the seam will be.
