You can use safety cables instead of chains if your trailer is under the weight rating of the cable. The safety cables are made from nylon coated steel. I do not recommend using the Curt 7500 lb rated safety cable part # C80176 because that would be cutting it pretty close with the weight of your trailer.

There are two sets of safety cables that are required by law for all flat-towing application. There are what is referred to as short and long safety cabes. Short safety cables connect the base plates to the vehicle and long safety cables connect the base plates to the RV's trailer hitch.

The addition of a dual hitch receiver adapter like part # RM-077-4 may require longer safety cables, but that will depend on the length of your current safety cables. This adapter will add 10-1/4 inches between the tow vehicle and the towed vehicle. I spoke to my contact at Roadmaster about the RoadMaster 8" Safety Cable Extensions part # RM-910648-8 and they stated that each cable is rated for 8,000 lbs but that does not means it will give you 16,000 lbs in total as if one were to break, you will still only have a 8,000 lb capacity. This is going to be true for most safety cables and chains. Good question. The Blue Ox Base Plate # BLU37UR for the 2023 Ford F-250 does indeed come with a pair of cables. These cables are actually part of the installation hardware, and are not the tow bar safety cables. The included cables are called "permanent safety cables" and are used to help secure the base plate to the frame of the vehicle. The difference between coiled safety cables like # RM-643, and straight cables like # RM-645, other than the design, is the applications for which you would use each. For example, some tow bars, like # RM-422, have built in safety cable channels which would ideally work with straight cables. The channels hold the coils up so that they do not get caught on anything or drag on the ground. So for a tow bar with built-in channels, I recommend straight cables.

I spoke to my contact at Roadmaster and he told me that because the holes on the base plate are so small, the short safety cables of the Roadmaster Crossbar-Style Base Plate Kit # 1528-3 are used to connect directly to the safety cables from your RV. Yes you can use safety cables in place of safety chains as long as they are rated for the weight of the trailer.
