Installing Electric Brake Controls on a 2010-2014 Dodge Ram
Replacing a Factory Brake Controller with an Aftermarket Brake Controller On a 2010-2014 Dodge Ram
Technical Bulletin
SUMMARY: 2010-2014 Dodge Ram With Factory Integrated Trailer Brake Module (ITBM)PROBLEM: The Dodge factory ITBM (Integrated Trailer Brake Module) is not to be used with electric over hydraulic trailer brake systems. It is to be used with electric trailer brakes only.SOLUTION: To use a trailer with electric over hydraulic brakes, you will need to install an aftermarket brake control. To install an aftermarket brake control you will have to disconnect the ITBM. This will turn on a warning lamp on the instrument cluster. In order to disconnect the ITBM and not get the warning lamp, your local Dodge dealer will have to reconfigure the TIPM (Totally Integrated Power Module), of the truck. Once the TIPM has been reconfigured, and the ITBM has been unplugged, you can use a vehicle specific brake control harness such as the Tekonsha #3021P or Towready #22293, to install the aftermarket brake control. To disconnect the ITBM, you will need to contact Business Center to remove the sales code (XHC). The TIPM will need to be reconfigured. Once the sales code has been disabled you can disconnect the ITBM electrical connector, under the dash, without getting the warning lamp.

I have a question on a 2010 dodge ram 3500 that has a factory brake controller (itbm) that was install at factory as listed options list on truck from build date. I might be miss reading these instructions but reconfiguring the tipm, im guessing you mean removing the itbm from the options list? sales code xhc. Im kind of only seeing this as a possibly if this was a dealer install and was added to the option list by a dealership, with it being a factory build option we cant remove this from the option list. Is this correct or are we missing something.
If you want to remove the factory brake controller without causing a code you need to take it to a dealer and have them clear it our and disconnect it. Then you can install a brake controller that will work with other styles of brakes, not just electric.
Yes, the new brake controller will work whether or not you have the ITBM reprogrammed on your 2012 Ram 2500. I recommend the P2 #90885. It will require harness #3021-P which will plug into a connector located under the dash near the emergency brake…
The best brake controller option to go with is one that activates the brakes proportionally instead of time delayed. A proportional brake controller will activate the trailer brakes at the same time and with the same intensity as the tow vehicle…
The Reese 15K 5th Wheel Hitch 30049 that you referenced is the same as the Reese 16K 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch part #RP30051 save for the head but they both use the same base, Reese Square Tube Slider for 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch part #RP30048. I am not…
Yes, there is an option for you to use the much higher quality tankless water heater as well as a door that is going to work for your 15-1/2" x 16" cut out. What you will need for the water heater itself is the Furrion unit you mentioned: -…
The brake controller harness is located under the dash on the drivers side, just left of the steering column, and near the emergency brake pedal. See picture at the right. I am sending a link on the installation instructions on a 2010 Dodge Ram. It…
To install an aftermarket brake controller like the Tekonsha Prodigy, you will have to disconnect the Integrated Trailer Brake Module. Doing so will turn on a warning lamp on the instrument cluster. In order to disconnect the ITBM and not get the…
A local Dodge dealer will have to reprogram the truck to disconnect the factory brake controller. That will allow you to install an aftermarket brake controller like the Tekonsha Prodigy P3, #90195, which is an excellent brake controller by the way.…
Your 2011 Dodge Ram 2500 would not need any computer work done at a dealer to activate the brake controller. Most likely the brake controller just needs to have an initial setup done on it and you'll start feeling the trailer brakes like you…
I looked up the owners manual for the 2014 Ford F-150. On a 4x4 SuperCrew with the 3.5 liter EcoBoost, 145 inch wheelbase, and 3.55 rear end the gross combined weight rating will either by 13,400 pounds (for limited models) or 15,500 pounds. If you…
It sounds like the control panel on your MaxxFan 6200K #MA00-06200K has gone out, which would explain the erratic functioning that you're describing. You can replace the circuit board on this unit with part #MA10A21276K. I've linked a short…
For a 2010 Dodge Ram 1500 with a 7-way there is a port under the dash that will be used for the install of a brake controller. The install harness part #3021-P is the harness to use. The plug you are looking for is a white, square connector above the…
I spoke to Tekonsha about finding the exact location for the brake controller on your truck and they told me that for your 2019 Dodge Ram 1500 "the connector is behind the area in the attached picture and from what we’ve been told you can reach…
