Specs:
These low-profile, aerodynamic Vortex Aero crossbars let you build a stylish aftermarket roof rack from scratch. The crossbars require 4 Rhino-Rack legs (manufactured in 2014 or later) and a custom fit kit to mount it to your roof. Each bar extends past the roof rack legs to maximize the space for mounting carriers and accessories. Rubberized Vortex strips in each crossbar's top channel disrupt airflow for a quiet ride, and the bars are constructed of aluminum so they won't rust. The crossbars also include Secure Core endcaps with plastic locks to help deter theft of channel-mounted accessories.
The rubberized Vortex strips in the top channel of each crossbar disrupt airflow with evenly spaced, wave-shaped grooves. This carefully controlled turbulence minimizes wind noise and whistling, so you won't need to add a fairing to your roof rack. And the slim, elliptical Vortex Aero crossbars cut through the air with minimal drag - even at highway speeds.
The Vortex Aero crossbars are made of structural-grade anodized aluminum with H-shaped internal extrusions. These extrusions strengthen the bars without adding a significant amount of weight. And the aluminum bars won't rust so you can leave them on your roof year-round.
Each crossbar has a channel in the bottom for mounting to Rhino-Rack roof rack legs (sold separately). Each end of the channel includes a rubber ruler to help you center the bar on your roof. Simply use the numbers and hash marks on the rulers to ensure the legs are spaced properly in the channel.
Each Vortex Aero crossbar has a built-in C-channel so you can carry channel-mounted accessories such as bike racks, watersport carriers, and ski racks. The Vortex strips in the top channels come in 3 pieces, so they're easier to adjust than a single long, continuous strip. You can remove, trim, and re-insert the Vortex strips around the mounting hardware of your accessories to keep the crossbar channels capped and quiet. Replacement strips (sold separately) are also available if you remove your accessories or switch to clamp-on accessories.
You can also attach most clamp-on accessories to the bars, and the Vortex strips provide shock-absorbing, no-slip cushions for any accessories that rest on them.
Each crossbar includes 2 Secure Core locking endcaps made of durable polypropylene. These endcaps lock with a universal tubular key. The polypropylene locks secure the endcaps to the crossbars and help to secure channel-mounted accessories to the crossbars. For maximum security, you can upgrade to endcaps with all-metal lock cores (RRVA-LEC4 - sold separately).
Durable nylon legs let you mount Vortex Aero crossbars to your vehicle's factory elevated side rails. Custom-fit leg clamps tighten with included tool for easy installation on your rails. Pair with 2 crossbars to create a complete roof rack.

After pulling one of the ends pieces off, I saw that the blue key was inside the crossbar next to the measuring strips. Took me a minute but figured that part out, but the instructions were easy to follow. Can’t wait to test it out on my Kayaks! I have this installed on my Toyota Corolla LE 2013.
we traveled some 500 Miles at 70-80 MPH. With a Thule Cargo Box on the Rhino Rack Vortex Crossbars, on the Cadillac XT6. Absolutely quiet, and stable. Actually got 22+ MPG!! Love 'em!!!
Package, both items appeared used, but in good condition. The legs were not in the factory box, but just a eTrailer box. The instructions were hard to follow, even with a little help from YouTube. Just about to test drive to check the noise level. Time will tell, there is soft rubber on the legs and it may be wise to remove these when not in use, especially during Florida summers.
I purchased the Rhino legs, cross bars and J-style kaya carriers together and could not be more pleased with the combination. The system was installed in an evening and used the next day. The legs were very simple to install on the cross bars and then mount on the vehicle.
I wouldn't buy these bars again. Starting with the good, they work as a roof rack and have allowed me to transport my kayak. So that's been great! That said, I would have spent more to get a different kind of rack. These have a serious design flaw. They're hollow tubes with an open slit down the middle. They give you a rubber strip to plug up the hole as best you can, then you put caps on either side of the bars. The bars basically act as two giant clarinets on top of your car. No one can stand the whistling/squealing when they drive in my car. They ask me to take the bars down when they drive with me. I thought this was normal for temporary racks until I was in the car with a friend who had different temp racks and didn't hear a thing.
Just what I was looking for for my 2021 MB Metris Cargo Van with Raised Rails, for hauling a 14-foot SUP. I wanted as low profile as possible and the Rhino Rack SX Series Legs and Aero Crossbars looked best. Relatively easy to set up.
etrailer was great but the "lock" on the end caps should not really be called locks - it's more like a "tighten" since even if they are locked into place you can just pull the end caps and they will come off. which means the rubbers are too short or soft or does not fit snug into the locking hole
it would be nice (but not required) to get some tips on how to get those rubber fittings in - do you put on one end and pull them through vs do you lay them on top and push them in. things like that which would help assembly even better
I haven’t installed rack yet and everything appears to be in order.
* I wasn’t anticipating that Rhino -Rack Sports Ladder Peg (s602) be made of plastic.
Does it have the strength, durability to perform well and not get brittle in colder temps?
Unfortunately, the vortex aero crossbars whistled very loudly on my 2022 Subaru Crosstrek. In addition, I found it difficult to center the crossbars with the SX series legs. And, finally, these legs would not stay tight for more than a day or so.
Using Rhino-Rack Vortex Aero Crossbars, Using Rhino Kayak holders. Also use a Rhino bicycle rear receiver mount. Love Rhino products.....strong, well engineered, low noise, and every part is quality... mounts, straps, etc. Photo is departure picture from last years trip to Big Bend, Texas. We probably put a couple thousand miles on these pieces of Rhino equipment on all types of roads at both Big Bend Park and Big Bend State Park... You really cannot go wrong buying Rhino products. Everything they make is well designed and will not disappoint.
Fits my 22 Subaru Outback Wilderness awesome! Great low profile and minimalist design. My only dislike is the bright white Rhino Rack logo on each foot. Sorry Rhino, your name/logo needs way more graphic design; the white silk screen was able to come off with acetone and elbow grease, but I wish the whole rack setup was fully blacked-out from the factory without bright decals or logos. One of the cross bar boxes arrived open/damaged, but contents were fine. Great rack tho!
Rack is great but the cross bars are odd with the rubber strips when you mount things. I needed to buy new strips because they got messed up but overall good rack for roof top tent!
Been wanting to get a roof rack for my small Honda H-RV suv for some time now. Finally decided to pull the trigger on one and opted for this Rhino rack system.
Watching the etrailer install video and following the manufacturer's instruction, the front rack went on easily and perfectly. However, the rear track turned out to be a very long process. Why? Because I thought the manufacturer's measurements for the rear was an error. After the rack was assembled, it didn't seat into the roof channel at all. It appeared to be well short. So, I proceeded to use my mechanical ingenuity to get this rack to fit on my own. After a lengthy span of time and numerous adjustments, I'd come to realize that the manufacturer's measurements were correct. The footing did not sit perfectly until the unit was fully tightened against the vehicle. Live and learn.....once again.
The rack is absolutely solid, and looks very clean and sharp on top of the H-RV. I could not detect any additional noise while driving, even at highway speed.
The main purpose of this roof rack was for transporting my recreational kayak. I was not aware that these bars had a rubber strip running along the entire top of the bar. This turned out to be perfect for the kayak. Now, I didn't need to buy a specific kayak cradle. The kayak, one strapped down, is held absolutely secured to the rack.
I am very happy with this product! Once again, etrailer comes through perfectly with another of my order. Prompt service and indepth product info are the reasons why I shop here!
Its been one year since I installed the Rhino Rack crossbars and I have absolutely no issues. The main use is to carry my Kayaks on my 2013 Subaru Impreza utilizing Yakima JayLow kayak carriers. The only caveat is to be sure to properly cut and install the plastic channel inserts (underside) or you will experience an annoying whistling sound. If you're looking for high quality crossbars, I highly recommend these.
These legs with the Rhino-rack Vortex Aero Crossbars - 59" - Black - Qty 2 are a perfect fit for our Subaru Outback Wilderness with good overhang for a kayak loader. Check out the eTrailer video showing the install on a Wilderness. The info on their site is first class and a good reason to buy from them.
I bought the rhino rack rooftop rack a year ago and am very pleased with my purchase. I also added a rhino rack bike carrier to carry my road bike with me. It has performed very well on several camping trips in the past year.
This is a quality product. From the web site to the rack parts to the assembly instructions, it was easy to assemble and the quality was impressive. I own 3 Thule racks, 2 Yakima and now this set of Rhino racks with Aero bars and I couldn't be more pleased. When my Mom gifted me her 2003 Toyota Corolla with only 42,000 miles on it, I decided to make it my daily driver. My Friday includes dawn patrol surfing, so I needed a way to carry surfboards and I wasn't sure I could get roof racks that worked.

The rack legs and cross bars were shipped immediately and arrived 3 days ahead of the expected delivery date. I was impressed with the ease of assembly and installation. The installation videos on the web site were very helpful. The rack is fitted perfectly to my vehicle and it blends nicely with the black trim on my roof rails. I am very pleased with the equipment and the price was actually about $50 below a similar rack assembly from a well known competitor. Chelsea D, who took my order over the phone, was very helpful and made the process very simple. Thanks for exceeding my expectations.
The parts were simple to install. The foam padding did drop out as I manipulated the parts, so being aware of its placement during installation was important.
The neat, clean appearance of the items provides a nice look for my 2012 Kia Sorento.
The process took about thirty minutes to complete. I watched the installation videos to prepare, and was glad I did so. The small trim pieces which go beneath the cross bars (in the adjustment slots) proved the most challenging pieces to measure. I recommend placing the cross bars on the towers and measuring everything for location first, then figuring out how much material you need for those slots. The last, short bit of trim may be measured just prior to installing the end caps, and you can poke it in the slot and trim it in place.
I am very pleased with the etrailer.com. Easy to navigate website and expedited shipping for no extra cost. I ordered and received my product in about a week, which is very reasonable for being across the country.
The product arrived in tact and with no damage. Easy to put the rack bars on my jeep. I've included pictures of the completed result. We plan on buying the attachments that will mount our bikes and when we do we will be doing so from etrailer.
Easy to install on the Bronco Sport factory roof rails allowing for a very low install height for the Pioneer platform!
Excellent product, with excellent quality. It fit my 2017 Nissan Sentra perfectly. The construction of the product is made to last many years, while offering versatility and protection to my car. I bought the Roof Racks a year ago, to be able to transport construction materials, since I did not have a Truck. And it has been one of the best purchases or investments made. I really recommend it. Satisfaction is guaranteed.
The crossbars & side rails were fairly easy to install especially after watching the etrailer videos & with a little help from my husband. I use them on my KIA Seltos to carry a kayak. So far they have performed well.
These feet worked like a charm! We were able to use these to install the Rhino Pioneer Rack onto our existing factory rack (2007 Toyota Land Cruiser). Adam at etrailer.com was awesome!
