Specs:
These low-profile, aerodynamic Vortex Aero crossbars let you build a stylish aftermarket roof rack from scratch. The crossbars require 4 Rhino-Rack legs (manufactured in 2014 or later) and a custom fit kit to mount it to your roof. Each bar extends past the roof rack legs to maximize the space for mounting carriers and accessories. Rubberized Vortex strips in each crossbar's top channel disrupt airflow for a quiet ride, and the bars are constructed of aluminum so they won't rust. The crossbars also include Secure Core endcaps with plastic locks to help deter theft of channel-mounted accessories.
The rubberized Vortex strips in the top channel of each crossbar disrupt airflow with evenly spaced, wave-shaped grooves. This carefully controlled turbulence minimizes wind noise and whistling, so you won't need to add a fairing to your roof rack. And the slim, elliptical Vortex Aero crossbars cut through the air with minimal drag - even at highway speeds.
The Vortex Aero crossbars are made of structural-grade anodized aluminum with H-shaped internal extrusions. These extrusions strengthen the bars without adding a significant amount of weight. And the aluminum bars won't rust so you can leave them on your roof year-round.
Each crossbar has a channel in the bottom for mounting to Rhino-Rack roof rack legs (sold separately). Each end of the channel includes a rubber ruler to help you center the bar on your roof. Simply use the numbers and hash marks on the rulers to ensure the legs are spaced properly in the channel.
Each Vortex Aero crossbar has a built-in C-channel so you can carry channel-mounted accessories such as bike racks, watersport carriers, and ski racks. The Vortex strips in the top channels come in 3 pieces, so they're easier to adjust than a single long, continuous strip. You can remove, trim, and re-insert the Vortex strips around the mounting hardware of your accessories to keep the crossbar channel capped and quiet. Replacement strips (sold separately) are also available if you remove your accessories or switch to clamp-on accessories.
You can also attach most clamp-on accessories to the bars, and the Vortex strips provide a shock-absorbing, no-slip cushion for any accessories that rest on them.
Each crossbar includes 2 Secure Core locking endcaps made of durable polypropylene. These endcaps lock with a universal tubular key. The polypropylene locks secure the endcaps to the crossbars and help to secure channel-mounted accessories to the crossbars. For maximum security, you can upgrade to endcaps with all-metal lock cores (RRVA-LEC4 - sold separately).
Durable nylon legs let you mount Vortex Aero crossbars to your vehicle's factory elevated side rails. Custom-fit leg clamps tighten with included tool for easy installation on your rails. Pair with 2 crossbars to create a complete roof rack.

There was wind noise (whistling) when all the rubber spacers were not installed, now it’s very quiet. I also installed the Yakima fishing rod//Ski holder. I wound up deviating from the directions and using the third lot, so the clamps would close on the bar. So far so good, without the fishing rod holder it’s low profile enough to get into garages, etc. Fast delivery on the products.
Love these aero bars. Perfect for on my 2018 Grand Cherokee Trailhawk. Run fairly quiet and perform as expected. As always the customer service from etrailer was top notch.
Looks a great and we’re super easy to install.
2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee L 4x4 Limited
The quality is very good. Ordering was easy and installation using the video made the process so simple. Glad I order them from here instead of somewhere else.
Indeed they were the wrong parts in the box marked demo on them.
The new parts came and I was able to
Put it on my car with no problem!!
Thank you for listening to me and helping me problem solve. It looks great on my car and I'm ready to load the kayaks now!!
Kalie is a gal that sent me some return labels so I'm going to put that on the box and send it back to you guys!
I bought this item because I wanted a quiet low-profile bar. unfortunately, this bar is incredibly loud and whistles. I've reached out to Rhino Rack and etrailer and have received no responses. Would not recommend this product.
Easy to install. The pins on the legs clamp perfectly into the fixed points on the car's flush rails. This is a nice low profile set up. The top of the crossbar is about 4" above the roof glass and does not interfere with opening the sunroof. This is a very sturdy setup for our Thule Motion XT XL. etrailer shipped extremely fast. Very pleased with my purchase.
Excellent system. Little to no wind noise. Measurements to mount the rear bar to the 2020 Equinox are incorrect in the instructions but easy to adjust to an exact fit.
etrailer.com's videos and additional customer support made the purchase of a Rhino Rack system from them for our 2010 Malibu a no brainer. The rack fit the car perfectly, and with the videos and clear instructions that came with the kit, I got it installed on the car with only one misstep. The instructions came the the measurements in centimeters and inches. I didn't have a metric tape measure, and ended up messing up converting fractions to decimal.
My Daughter is going to college 500 miles away and is moving into an unfurnished apartment and needed to pick up some small furniture that wouldn't fit in her Malibu. She purchased several items from Facebook Marketplace and was able to transport a twin bed and mattress, a medium sized desk and some dining room chairs (in several trips) with no problems.
The only thing I can think of to improve the installation would be to have the Inches measurements in decimal or to include an inexpensive metric tape.
I use this on my 2016 Ford Focus sedan. It's awesome. Only issue I had is that with my canoe strapped down, the rubber strip collapsed down into the t track where the gunwale pressed on it, after a few months of use. I realized that 3/8 diameter rod, or stiff plastic tubing, was perfectly sized so that it could be laid in the track with the rubber strip installed normally over it. The tubing supports the rubber strip and keeps it from collapsing under the clamping pressure. Overall, this is a great system. Very solid and quiet.
Bought these to go on our RAV4 Prime. They look much better than the standard Toyota racks, were easy to install, and have stood the test of time a year later (making it through a New England winter just fine). we’ve used them to hold a Yakima Rocketbox without problems.
Hello sorry for the late response/review. I would have to rate the rhino rack set up a 3.5 The measurements to set the feet up and the video that was previously sent was not for my 2022 honda accord.
The rack fits well and looks good but it has a whistle. It’s common with racks to have that problem but how hard would it be for rack manufacturers to engineer a rack that won’t make noise? There are videos on YouTube showing people doing all kinds of rigging on the crossbars to stop the noise- if they can do it why can’t the manufacturers do it? Why should I have to wrap tape and cords and all kinds of other crap to the crossbars to fix it?
I purchased the Rhino legs, cross bars and J-style kaya carriers together and could not be more pleased with the combination. The system was installed in an evening and used the next day. The legs were very simple to install on the cross bars and then mount on the vehicle.
Just what I was looking for for my 2021 MB Metris Cargo Van with Raised Rails, for hauling a 14-foot SUP. I wanted as low profile as possible and the Rhino Rack SX Series Legs and Aero Crossbars looked best. Relatively easy to set up.
Time consuming to assemble, once you hit 25 mph you can hear a faint whistle from the sound bar. Double checked all plugs to confirm there were no gaps in the top or bottom rubber but noise continues. Easy to remove so decision made the use only when there is a need vs leaving on my jeep full time. Disappointed.
I purchased this kit along with the aero bars for my 2012 BMW X3. Great product and appears solid. I relied heavily on the you tube install video that saved me a considerable amount of time. Would definitely purchase again for future vehicles.
I haven’t installed rack yet and everything appears to be in order.
* I wasn’t anticipating that Rhino -Rack Sports Ladder Peg (s602) be made of plastic.
Does it have the strength, durability to perform well and not get brittle in colder temps?
Unfortunately, the vortex aero crossbars whistled very loudly on my 2022 Subaru Crosstrek. In addition, I found it difficult to center the crossbars with the SX series legs. And, finally, these legs would not stay tight for more than a day or so.
Using Rhino-Rack Vortex Aero Crossbars, Using Rhino Kayak holders. Also use a Rhino bicycle rear receiver mount. Love Rhino products.....strong, well engineered, low noise, and every part is quality... mounts, straps, etc. Photo is departure picture from last years trip to Big Bend, Texas. We probably put a couple thousand miles on these pieces of Rhino equipment on all types of roads at both Big Bend Park and Big Bend State Park... You really cannot go wrong buying Rhino products. Everything they make is well designed and will not disappoint.
You have to order the cross bars and connector hardware separately. I also ordered the end cap locks.
I consider myself a pretty good DYI person and it took longer than I expected according to other reviews on here to get everything installed and overlapping the same on both sides.
Once installed the crossbars are very solid. I do get noticeable wind noise at say 70+MPH.
I installed these on a 2020 Jeep GC Overland and they look and function great! Was a bit concerned about the sun roof retraction with the bars, but there is plenty of clearance. No issue.
I for sure recommend the Rhino Rail crossbars. Etrailer is a great site to get the bars. Given the COVID issues and supply chain breakdowns retailers are facing, they still had everything I ordered to me in a very reasonable time frame.
Fits my 22 Subaru Outback Wilderness awesome! Great low profile and minimalist design. My only dislike is the bright white Rhino Rack logo on each foot. Sorry Rhino, your name/logo needs way more graphic design; the white silk screen was able to come off with acetone and elbow grease, but I wish the whole rack setup was fully blacked-out from the factory without bright decals or logos. One of the cross bar boxes arrived open/damaged, but contents were fine. Great rack tho!
The bars to the job as far as carrying the load, but there's a big difference between "wind noise" and "an extremely annoying whistling". Wind going over the bars makes a very annoying whistling noise and there seems to be no fix other than purchasing additional wind deflection products.
These crossbars were easy to install, are sturdy when installed and look great on my factory side rails when installed with the SX Series legs. The standard end caps are an all-plastic affair and use a little key to engage a cam lock. That plus the distance from the end of the crossbar to the nut that tightens the foot onto the rail keeps things relatively secure. Most people probably want to opt for proper locking end caps, though.
The rubber vortex strips look nice and give items something grippy to rest on. I haven't tried a load test yet but did drive around in moderate wind on the highway in multiple directions. Other than a slight whistle at 70 mph, you'd never know they were there. Overall, real happy with the product and looking forward to hauling some stuff around with them.
Great sturdy rack. I put it together myself and have already started using it. I was concerned that it would cause leaks in the door the way it has to mount..but its Florida and its rainfall in the past few days and no leak! The weak link would be the end caps..two do not lock on and im concerned the will fly off at some point.
