A Safe Ride is a Comfortable Ride

If you're looking for the best tie-downs for your camper, frame-mounted is the way to go. The frame is the most solid part of your entire vehicle, so it just makes sense to attach your camper to something that's not going to warp, bend, or twist. Even more importantly, the camper's center of gravity will sit lower and its weight will be spread across the entire bed. This avoids a top-heavy load perched on top of your bed rails that's liable to sway and get pushed around by crosswinds. The camper's not going to shift or slide around while you drive; it's going to stay put, and your truck is going to handle just like it does without a camper.

Quick Tip: If you have a plastic or spray-in bed liner, it's important that you use a rubber mat under the camper to eliminate any sliding or bouncing.

Don't Ruin Your Truck's Looks

Frame-mounted tie-downs are also a great pick for preserving your truck's good looks. The brackets install on the frame, tucked nearly flush with the underside of the vehicle. Remove the arms from the brackets when you're not hauling your camper, and the brackets will be barely visible.

Custom Fit, No-Drill Installation

Completely custom to your vehicle, the tie-downs attach to exisiting holes in your frame so that there's little to no drilling and no need for any modifications. Because they're custom, you'll want to use our in-house application guide to make sure you get the exact right model. The tie-downs you need might be different depending on what type of hitch or other accessories you have.

Securing Your Camper

TorkLift Tie Down Example

Once the tie-downs are installed, use a set of turnbuckles (sold separately) to secure the camper to the tie-downs. The shank on each arm has 2 pin holes so you can choose how far out they extend, that way the turnbuckles can reach the anchors on your camper without making contact with your truck. Tighten the turnbuckles to the correct level of tension (not too tight!).

where to put camper tie downs

Make sure the anchor points are offset from the tie-downs instead of lined up with them so that they will hold your camper from multiple angles. This is important for keeping your camper from shifting. Two holes in the attachment plate of the tie-downs let you find the best angle for you camper anchors.

Video Transcript for Torklift Custom Frame-Mounted Camper Tie-Downs Installation - 2004 Dodge Ram Pickup

Today on this 2004 Dodge Ram Pickup 3500 Series Quad Cab, were going to install part number TLD3109. This is a TorkLift Camper Tie Downs. This tie downs are installed in the back of the bumper. To get our vehicle ready, we went ahead and sprayed it down with some Penetrant to help loosen up the bolts. What well need to do is go ahead and remove our bolts. Now were looking at the passenger side and this will be identical for our driver side as well.

Youve got a variety of bolts we have to uninstall, these locations and these two as well. Our tie down bracket is going to up in this place and this will be stuffed back on top of it. Now what we can do is actually just leave these as loose as possible and let this rotate out of the way as well too. We dont want to take them completely off. To loosen these fasteners up, were using the 15 mm socket. Well use the same socket on these two bolts.

These two bolts will require a 21 mm socket. On the other side is a handle nut. Lets go ahead and slide our bracket into place and then well install the hardware that comes with the kit right here. Well push that from the inside to the outside and then on the threads on the inside here, well install a flat washer, a lock washer and a nut. At this point, were going to leave this loose and were going to reinstall the original hardware. On this side, were going to start from the top and work our way down. With all our hardware loosely installed, well go ahead and tighten it down and then torque them down as per instructions.

Now to tighten these fasteners down, Ill need a 3-1/4 inch socket and a wrench. With all the bolts tightened down and torqued for our passenger side and basically were going to repeat all this on our driver side. With the tie down receiver in place and tightened down, well go ahead and install the bit insert. Well just go ahead and slide it in. You have a couple of adjustments for your tie downs. In this case, well just go ahead and just push it all the way in for storage and install the lock pin or snap pin.

That will finish it for the TorkLift Custom Frame Mounted Camper Tie Downs for the back of our truck part number TLD3109 on our 2004 Dodge Ram Pickup 3500 Series Quad Cab. .

The drivers rear didn't get built correctly. the hole to put the tie done is missing. I had to drill a hole into the tie down so I could use it. Didn't notice the problem until I went to put the camper on my pickup. The other three are fine.

    by: Craig03/25/2022

Forklift tie downs are manufactured to exact fit to existing manufactured frame rail holes. They lined up perfectly and after 6000 miles with camper on board have stayed secure. The only downside, (this is relative to when and ware you use you camper) they will corrode when driving through snow covered roads that have been treated with sand and/or salt. I use an oil based product to protect them corroding.

Easy install, very effective way to keep the camper were it's supposed to be. Just bought a new truck and ordered another set for it. As long as I have a bed mounted camper I will be using this tie down system.

    by: Jerry12/15/2018

On my 2017 Ram 2500 HD, were easier to install than the front ones because you don't have to put that bolt inside the frame. There is a standoff for a wire on each side that had to be removed, and will need to be secured with a cable tie or something (see attached picture). I had to remove my Trekstep from the driver's side, but I knew I would have to do that, so no big deal. Again, these are very sturdy, thus very heavy, and lighter aluminum tie downs might be considered to reduce weight.

This products is well made. The transaction was easy and the product arrived as expected. I've been using this product for a year and I have no complaints. It has held up well and does what it was designed to do.

The rear mount arrived this morning, and I immediately went to installation,,,the only thing that could have made things easier would be, if I had a more powerful air wrench to take the bolts out,,,lol.

Looks great! The quality of your product is impressive! And, to think the dealer wanted to charge me $200 to put them on.

I see these as a permanent attachments to my truck,

    by: Jerry08/04/2023

Love the TorkLift Tie-Downs! They are rugged and make loading and unloading much easier than my old basic Tie-Downs.

    by: Wilk06/27/2021

Seem like a solid well built product. A bit of a pain to install and the instructions could have been more clear and the manual put together better but overall satisfied.

    by: Cameron 07/08/2021

Easy to install and super secure! Made my Lance 1020 feel like its part of my truck. Highly recommended for the juggernaut class truck campers. I’ll never go back to the stake pocket style or bed mount tie downs again.

1 year later, Im still very pleased. Ive gotten many positive comments from people that didnt know they existed and, after talking to me, plan on upgrading themselves.

TorkLift frame mounted tie downs, Torklift Fast Gun tie downs - AWESOME! Arrived Thursday as promised, picked the new Cirrus camper this morning. Installed the frame mounted tie downs - front and back - 1hour 45 minutes. Thank you etrailer!

The TorkLift frame mounted tiedowns for my truck bed camper mounted perfectly on my 2016 RAM 3500. They are holding my camper on very securely and will be tucked away nicely when I remove the camper for Winter. I plan on making a footstep to slide into the receivers then, so I have much easier access to my high truck bed when I use it to haul firewood. The only suggestion I have is that we cleaned up the punched out pin hole edges with a file, inside the receivers. The sharp ridges would have scratched the hold down assemblies a bit when inserted into the receivers. Maybe an opportunity for a manufacturing process improvement there?

Very stable easy to set up system

    by: Eric A.06/29/2017

These camper tie downs have been fantastic! They were easy to install and have made securing my camper a breeze. I really like how easy it is to pull the tie down portion of the brackets out when you aren't carrying the camper. In my opinion this is the only way to secure a truck camper.

    Comments
They were great. I ended up getting a different truck and bought another Torklift setup for the new truck. I couldn’t imagine using anything else for securing a truck camper.

The only Truck Camper tie down devices that I will ever use.

    by: Clifford 03/20/2024

Easy to install whole job front and rear just under 3 hours

    by: Nick 02/22/2024

They still work great after a year : )

    by: Bruce 10/31/2019

These are very well made. They installed easily and fit perfectly. My only concern is that the tie down/turnbuckle attachment hole is slotted and looks potentially weak as a result. I don't know that it's weak, it just looks like making it without the slot would be a lot stronger.

    Comments
After a year, these have worked out very well. The slotted holes I was concerned about have not been a problem.

I am really happy with tork lift rear tie downs on my 2004 3509 Dodge Ram dually. They have worked out good for me. I did have to move my rear camper tie downs so the tie down rods would clear the fenders but overall I am very happy with the tie downs.

    by: Scott07/07/2021

It fits just beautiful and works great for my pickup camper.

    by: Mike12/05/2021

Great tiedowns, easy to install. Both slide in section of the tiedowns had areas where either the shipping caused issues or they had been used, not sure. Some of the powder coat areas were scratched up to bare metal. Other than that, they are nice and out of the way when not being used.

    Comments
I will have our customer service team reach out to you. I also recommend touching up the tie downs with a rust resistant paint prior to installation.
