Video Transcript for Fastenal Wiring - Tools for Wiring - 101131802 Review

Speaker 1: Today we're taking a look at a self drilling hex screw. Now this screw works great for grounding a wiring harness to a trailer frame or vehicle frame. It has the hex head design, and this is a self tapping screw. So self tappers don't necessarily need a pilot hole, or a pre drilled hole in order to penetrate the surface that the screw is going into. You can tighten the screw using a quarter inch socket or a wrench. And this is a number eight by half inch long screw.

So that measurement, the half inch measurement, is taken from the bottom of the screw head to the very end of the screw, so that measure's a half inch. That's going to do it for today's look at the hex screw with the self tapping design, or self drilling design.

These bolts are so good they practically screw themselves. Honestly, what can you say about a bolt? It worked.

Worked very well with the 1/4" metal loom clamp, item #A0250 to keep the power wire for the Tow Ready Trailer Wiring in place and away from moving parts

Worked very well in my 2015 Siena and rides very stable after installation! Very good product quality!

This was recommended in another comment by an etrailer employee to use to attach part # BK70BB - Trailer Light Mounting Bracket to the curt cargo carrier. These screws were way too small for that usage. I ended up using some 1/4 inch self-drilling screws that I had and added these to my stash.

I agree with Rick, these screws DO NOT fit part BK70BB - Trailer Light Mounting Bracket

Products arrived quickly and were exactly what we ordered for rewiring our trailer as follows: 35 ft 4-way trailer wiring harness with 42" ground wire; metal loom clamps; wire loom and hex screws with wash heads. This company has a very good selection with good prices and economy shipping.

My brother and I purchased suspension parts, brake kits, wiring kit, led lights and other accessories for are car trailer. Great products, will by from etrailer again.

These screws were recommended by etrailer and worked perfectly for mounting hose clamps on the underbody of our minivan!

Perfect. etrailer rocks for me

Exactly what I needed to complete my in stallation

Ordered several towing and cargo products for a pending trip in 4 days! Great communication from the eTrailer team (George and Jamie) on delivery dates, etc. One product was not available in the warehouse, but eTrailer contacted the mfr and had them drop ship with express delivery to meet my timing needs. Really no effort on my part to get this great service -- just seems to be the way they operate. I keep ordering from them, and they keep exceeding expectations. Way to go! A+++

Ordered a pile of stuff to do a complete trailer rewire.... all was perfect!! I'll be back for my next project!

Parts work great, service and tech support was excellent.

  • Left and Right Turn Signal Blink at the Same Time and Reverse Light does Not Come On
It does sound like you have a poor ground on the trailer wiring. That is the most common reason for lighting to act erratically like you described. The ground of your trailer wiring needs to be attached to a clean bare metal surface of your vehicle. The circuit tester will still show power on the functions because it has power but if the ground is bad the functions will still not work correctly. If you give me more information about your situation, like your year make and model and what...

The T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # 118670 you asked from will utilize a self tapping screw like # 101131802. This is the #8 x 1/2" screw.

The Hopkins Never Fade Trailer Bubble Level Set - Graduated - Two Way - Stick On/Screw On # HM08526 you referenced does not come with mounting screws. I recommend using the Hex Screw - Self Drilling Unslotted Washer Head # 101131802 for your fiberglass camper installation. Be careful not to over tighten or they may damage your camper or level.

  • Installation of Ground Wire on Tekonsha Plug in Wiring Adapter for 2006 Toyota 4Runner
The Tekonsha Plug-In Wiring Adapter for Electric Brake Controllers - Toyota and Lexus # 3040-P does have the separate white ground wire with ring terminal. It is to be connected to a bolt that connects to a bare metal surface. You may want to simply use a sheet metal screw like # 101131802. I've attached a couple videos to assist.

  • Will the 1/2 Inch Metal Loom Clamps Work On a 5/16 Inch Frame Rail
Yes, the Metal Loom Clamp part # A0500 will work on a trailer frame that is 5/16" thick. The Metal Loom Clamp will actually work on pretty much any frame thickness but you will need to make note of the size screw used. I recommend the Hex Screw part # 101131802 for a 5/16" thick frame as it is 1/2" long. The Wire Loom part # 459075 can then be added to protect your wiring. I have attached a list of our other wiring accessories for you below as well.

Yes, the Tekonsha Custom Wiring Adapter for Trailer Brake Controllers part # 3031-P is a plug and play harness that will allow you to install the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 Trailer Brake Controller part # 90195 on your 2018 Toyota Tacoma without any cutting or splicing. You will however need to ground the white wire to a bare metal surface with a self-tapping screw like part # 101131802.

  • Both Turn Signals Flash at The Same Time
The cause of both turn signal lights flashing together would almost certainly be attributed to a poor ground. There are several grounds you will want to check which include one for each light, the trailer side trailer connector and the vehicle side trailer connector. One of these locations will more than likely contain the problem you are experiencing. It is important to make sure each ground is attached to a bare metal surface. It may be necessary to undo the ground wire and then use some...

All you need to do is plug one end into the P3 and the other end into the port underneath your Tacoma's dash; you will need to ground the white wire of the adapter to a bare metal surface using a self-tapping screw such as # 101131802.

  • Can 2 LED Domed Utility/Multipurpose Lights Light Up a 24 Foot Box Truck
The utility light # ILL24CB has 36 diodes so it will be on the bright side. Two of them will probably provide a decent amount of light but 3 would be better especially if light is essential. Attaching the lights to the ceiling using a high grade automotive type of double-sided tape would suffice. What I recommend is to use self-taping screws, like # 101131802, so you will not have to drill and then just seal the holes with a sealant like # 0160297. It would be best to attach screws to...

So what you could use is the part # 20174 with the mounting brackets # 106873 and you'd be able to attach everything. • Where To Connect The Ground Wiring From The 4 Pole Connector # 18004 On My Trailer
When installing The 4-Pole Trailer End Connector # 18004 the easiest way to attach the ground wire would be to attach the white wire to a clean, bare metal surface on the vehicle with a self tapping screw # 101131802, and adding a ring terimal # 44-5310A. A good ground location would be on the trailer frame or sheet metal that is not painted. I attached a review video link below.

  • LED Tailgate Light Bar Only Works Without Taillights On
I am sorry to hear about the issue you are having with your light bar. The problem you described sounds like a ground issue. If you have a light bar that plugs directly into a 4-way then I would remove the ground from the 4-way and then attach it directly to a bare metal surface on the vehicle with a ring terminal part # 44-5310A and self-tapping screw part # 101131802. The majority of issues like what you described are caused by a bad ground as the circuit cannot handle the extra load...

  • Right Hand Tail Light Goes Out When Vehicles Headlights Are On
I am assuming that you mean the right hand trailer tail light goes out when you turn the headlights on in the vehicle. If that is the case then this sounds like a ground issue. In order to remedy this you are going to need to reground each tail light assembly and both the vehicle side and trailer side trailer connectors. The tail light assemblies will ground via a single wire or the mounting hardware. If they ground with a single wire then you will want to remove the wire, sand down the...

  • How to Make Ground Connection for LED Lights Installed in Van
Vehicle and trailer lights often use a white wire for ground, while other lights might use their mounting studs or mounting base to establish the ground. These lights could have only one wire, the hot lead, since the ground is made by the hardware that installs it. If your light has two leads, black and white, the white wire is most likely the ground. This can be attached to metal framework if available or you can run a ground jumper wire to a suitable metal surface to ground it. Since...

Most likely the Optronics Trailer Light # STL56RB would work on your 1994 Shorelander boat trailer, or at least there would be a way for you to make them work. But I would still check out the mounting area on your trailer to determine how easily they would install on your trailer. The universal mounts are two inches apart on center. This unit also grounds through a ground strap, and if your current trailer grounds through the mounting hardware you would need to run the ground strap to...
