Easy to install. I removed the rear bolts, bolted the hitch in place, drilled the front holes and bolted them. One tip. Install the wiring harness first. The receiver is 15 inches to the top of the square. The whole job took an hour. Great product!

2004 Ford Ranger

Took less than an hour to install on my 2004 ford ranger edge. The full size spare still fit though I took it out for the install as it needed some air...

by:

After owning and using for a year, I can confidently say it is amazing. If you're wondering about fitment it is design to go around the spare tire in its stock placement. It bolts directly to the frame using existing mounts for the rear bumper and factory hitch. The kit came with all neccessary hardware. Great product that will last me many more years of use

by:

Fit exactly as described. On the rear most bolts getting out the manufacturers j-clip was easier than expected. Just had to tap in a small chisel or large flat screwdriver to spread the plates far enough. After that they slid right out. Being able to easily access my under bed spare with this hitch is exactly hw I wanted.

by:

Installation was so easy. Simple, complete instructions and online video. High-quality, strong hitch. My truck is happy!

The Curt 13138 fits my '97 Ranger perfectly. The 3 toughest parts with the install were 1. Loosening the bumper bracket bolts, 23 years of rust will make that tough 2. Cordless batteries were dead and the wife had knocked a hatchet onto the extension cords. So I soaked the bumper bolts with PB _and rust penetrant and fixed the extension cord in the half hour while the batteries charged. 3. I was working solo, so trying to balance, align and hold up the hitch while trying to get the first hitch bolt installed was not possible until I supported the hitch with a bucket. It really was a simple install and if I went out prepared would have taken 30 minutes. Even with drilling the 2 holes.
It looks good, tows my trailer, works with my bicycle and canoe carriers.

Perfect fit, easy to order, arrived quickly, great price.

2 photos- bucket supporting hitch for solo install and nice new clean hitch on my filthy truck.

This Curt Hitch receiver is absolutely amazing!! Nothing beats the quality of USA made hitch receivers!! I’d recommend this to anyone, it fit my 2005 ford ranger like a charm! We installed it in less than 20 minutes, just needed a helping hand to hold it while I got the bolts seated. 10/10 very happy with my purchase. Thanks etrailer!!!

by:
2008 Ford Ranger

The hitch is excellent; however, it was poorly packaged. Basically, the hitch was just put inside a carboard box and not secured. As a result, a portion of the hitch was sticking out of the box when it arrived. That portion of the hitch was scratched down to the metal.

Comments
I will have our Customer Service team reach out to you. I recommend touching up the affected areas with a rust resistant paint which you will then have on hand for regular hitch maintenance.

2010 Ford Ranger

Solid piece of hardware
Well thought
out
Am not exactly a pin ball wizard but got er done in OK time
Ford ranger 1997 bolts came out easily....remove & discard bolt clips
Only remove two bolts...but loosen all 4 so clips can be popped out
Buy a good 1/2 " drill bit ahead of time
Wear real eye protection...do u want hot metal filings in your eye?
Forgot to order the pin
Excellent customer service and follow through
Wish I had done this 10 yrs ago

Hitch receiver works great with my trailer and addiction to free woodchips.

by:
1999 Ford Ranger

Once I got bumper bolts removed, took about 30 minutes, with a help of friend holding one side, to mount and secure. Lowering spare really facilitates mounting. No drilling required, excellent fit with easy to follow instructions. Will use to pull my ski boat and pop up camper. Looks extremely sturdy. Like distance from ground to receiver. Highly recommend product, ordering easy and delivery and packing was excellent.

2002 Ford Ranger

First off, the install took just 15-20 minutes. The product fitment for bolt up was flawless and it has a good powder coated finish. Your install videos were great as they prepared me as to what I needed before the hitch arrived (like an 18mm deep wall impact socket). Thanks for posting those!

Biggest drawback is that it makes it pretty much impossible to lower the spare tire without having to remove the receiver. Not something that I will be looking forward to when and if I get a flat. I'm going to chock that up to me running the next size up from stock tires? They aren't much bigger but maybe that's how close the fitment is to the stock size?

Comments
James, thank you for your review. Since you mention that your spare tire is not stock size, I recommend that you relocate your spare tire before use to prevent any damage.

1995 Ford Ranger

My hitch arrived several days ahead of the estimated time. It came securely packaged with all the hardware I needed. Most other places I looked to purchase from couldn't ship for at least 45 days, these guys shipped it right out. I removed my spare tire, although I wouldn't have to and got to work. Took about a half hour to install. Great experience, I will continue to use etrailer for my trailer and hauling needs.

The trailer hitch for my husbands truck was a perfect fit and was delivered earlier than expected. Overall We are very pleased with the services your company provided and will highly recommend to anyone looking for your products.

2001 Ford Ranger

The hitch was very easy to install, took about 30 min. It fits perfectly to my 2001 Ford Ranger. The tow bar is very sturdy and is very well made! The delivery was fast, I ordered it on a Monday, and it arrived on Friday.
I would most DEFINETLY recommend this to anyone who is considering this for a tow bar.

1998 Ford Ranger

Easy install, other than having to drill two 1/2" holes in the truck frame. Nice quality hitch. I have a 1998 Ranger 4X4 so the tires are at the larger end of the OEM tire range (P235/75R15). My spare tire did fit in the well once the hitch was in place, however the tire is shifted a little bit forward due to interference with the hitch's square receiver tube. My spare is suspended on a crank-up cable mechanism, so placement is not critical. It's fine though, very secure.

I like the way this hitch is mostly hidden from view once installed. Very clean look.

Exactly what i needed, plus it came earlier than expected. It was so easy to install . It said professionals 30 min, amateurs 90 min. Well, i'm no pro, but in about 45 min i was done, easy peasy!

I've had this hitch for a year now, and it's still as great as it was on day one. It tucks up behind the bumper nicely to keep a nice clean appearance, and the powder coating has help up nicely. No complaints from me. Installation was easy, removing the hitch the previous owner put on was the hardest part.

by:

Love it! Bolted right on in about 30 min. Wish everything was so straightforward!

by:

It's a robust product with a good finish.
My
only problem (hitch) was my vehicle (2001 Ford Ranger, Edge 6'bed) frame/bumper attachment had clips that couldn't be removed until the other bolts were backed out to provide clearance to slide the retainer out.

I am happy with etrailer.com and the many purchases I have made over the years.

  • Is Drilling/Spare Tire Relocation Required to Install Curt Trailer Hitch 13138 on 2000 Ford Ranger
The spare tire should not be an issue for Curt trailer hitch # 13138 for your 2000 Ford Ranger. The instructions, linked for reference below, state that relocation of the tire bracket is not required. Provided that the spare tire is a stock size then I do not anticipate there being an issue. Regarding any drilling it would appear that some trucks that take this hitch already have the required mounting holes on the frame. Others do not. On models that do not two 1/2 inch holes will need...

I'm not 100% sure what size tire came on your 2006 Ford Ranger but if the 245/75R16 spare you have is the stock tire then you won't have any problems with the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # 13138 installed. We did have a customer send in a picture where the Curt receiver was really close to their tire but they had bumper up in size which is where the problem came from. • Can Curt Trailer Hitch # 13138 Be Installed and Fit Around the Spare Tire on a 1994 Ford Ranger
You will be able to install the Curt Trailer Hitch, # 13138, on your 1994 Ford Ranger and still keep the factory spare tire in position under the truck bed. After installing the hitch, you will need a 19 millimeter, open-ended wrench to remove the spare tire as the hitch will interfere with the normal spare tire removal method. • Is there Drilling Required to Install Curt Hitch 13138 on a 1998 Mazda B Series
Some of the vehicles this hitch will fit require drilling and some will not. This hitch uses 4 bolts. On all trucks at least 2 of the holes are present and on some trucks all 4 are present. At the most you would have to drill two 1/2 inch holes, but you can use the hitch as a template to assist the process. I spoke with one of my contacts at one of our hitch manufacturers an it appears the 2nd pair of holes started appearing in 2002, so you will most likely have to drill. I have added...
