This fully welded trailer hitch receiver bolts onto your vehicle's frame with no welding required. Powder coated steel is sturdy and corrosion resistant. After much research about hitches for my 2008 Ford Escape I settled on etrailer because of the detailed information concerning installation. I am visually oriented so having video to guide me was a huge help! In just an hour I had the hitch done! I need to use a small trailer from time to time and the car had no hitch on it. This will help me when I need to make a trip to the dump, haul off spring clean-up and get my Pelican boat to the lake. If their were ten more stars to click on I would click on number 10 for sure!
This is a great place to order from. You can actually talk to a person.
I ordered a hitch for my 2007 Ford escape. It fit perfectly took about an hour to install including wiring harness.
Thanks
Heavy duty, well constructed and smooth welds on the hitch I received. Like other reviews it had punctured the shipping box and I had a small spot missing the powder coating. I also did not need to use the thick spacer on my 2008 Mercury Mariner, the holes would not line up with it.
Arrived quickly. Could have been packaged better. Everything needed to install included, went on easily and in about 20 minutes I was pulling my trailer like I needed to. Looks pretty good, I am happy with this hitch.
Instructions say installs in 30 mins for professional and 60 mins for diy'er. Wrong. This is only true if you want to enlarge a existing hole large enough of pass through the bolt and brackets by grinding the metal unibody frame. I don't like grinding because latter it will rust. Even if you paint the spot latter it's better to find another way to pass through the harware. I removed the bumper and brackets to avoid grinding. This is why I'm a diy'er, because a shop probably would not repaint the exposed metal.
Wow,
A year after the product was purchased - very unexpected follow up by a retailer.
Must say it was one of the easiest automobile accessories to install given its size and weight. I was able to install the hitch frame myself in a friend's garage with the simplest of tools following the provided directions.
Fit like a glove, meets expectations, and despite a season in New England, still looks great under the rear bumper.
Highly recommend.
Custom fit. Easy to install. No modifications needed. Purchased it so my daughter could carry her (and her friends) bikes on a 3-bike carrier, when they went on a road trip somewhere. Opened up storage space in her Ford Escape, for their bags and camping gear. Hitch is even sturdy enough to haul my small towing trailer around, when it came time for her to move, with all her stuff!
Good welding, good fit, good finish, easy installation. I will use it to tow a small trailer with my '05 Mazda Tribute. I opened the frame holes with an angle grinder and die grinder for extremely easy access (my frame is boxed). It took about an hour for prep, install, and cleanup (part of every job). All told- a very good value.
Just completed the hitch install. It was very easy, had a little trouble around the exhaust but no big deal. Very nice hitch and shipping was fast. I will definitely recommend etrailer to anyone needing a hitch.
Installation was easy and the finish looks great. The only thing I would mention is that the instructions say a 2007 and later model year mariner/escape/tribute should have open ended frame rails and mine were sealed but a few minutes with some large drill bits took care of my access problem
Trailer hitch receiver is awesome, bought it for my Ford Escape for the other half to tow her trailer and it works out great, etrailer.com is a great site to get all your trailers and towing needs!
This is the 2nd Curt hitch I have installed in the past two years, the other being on my 1996 F150. This one (13650) I installed on my 2008 Mercury Mariner, and I continue to be impressed with Curt products. Everything lined up perfectly and the hitch went on easily, looks great, and is way more heavy duty than anything I would ever need on a Mariner. No drill required on this one, leave it in the toolbox. I would recommend Curt hitches to anybody. My only complaint is, and this happened with both this hitch and the one I installed on my pickup, is they show up looking like they were dragged BEHIND the FedEx truck instead of inside of it. I was able to spot-paint the areas that were dinged/scratched down to bare metal, but it was very close to being returned/exchanged based on my opinion of what's acceptable. Other than this issue, it's a great product.
Thanks for the shipping upgrade and prompt delivery. The Curt hitch and wiring harness went on with ease just as advertised. I installed the hitch and wiring harness in my garage with the help of my 11 year old son (see attached photo). The video on etrailer.com was a terrific help. I am already looking for things to attach to my new hitch on etrailer.com. You have my business, and I will certainly pass along your web site to all in need of parts.
Install was fairly easy and straight forward. Like some other reviews, using the spacer on the passenger side did not allow the side holes to line up with the frame even when tightened, so I removed it and all bolts tightened just fine. The 2 in receiver will give me the added confidence for a loaded bike rack and utility trailer.
I don't like to buy products on line but I did it when I needed a hitch for my excape. The hitch showed up in 3 days with regular shipping that was free. I do not have a garage or many tools I I hope it fit correctly and would be easy to install like the add said. It fit like a glove and was installed in a hr. I will tell anyone I know needing trailer products to give etrailer.com a try .
Great video install description. Fits like a glove on 07 Ford Escape hybrid awd.
I did the install alone so putting up hitch and bolting while holding the spacer in was tough, but nothing a little Duct the didn't help with.
Etrailer is doing things right with fast shipping and accurate information. This CURT hitch and T-one wiring harness was quick and easy to install.
We have yet to use the hitch, but we learned some valuable things when we installed the hitch on my 2011 Ford Hybrid Escape, which I wanted to pass along to others who may be struggling to install the hitch on a similar car.
1) Providing only 2 guide wires to guide the backing plates and the bolts through the frame is not enough. The guides start to deteriorate after a use or two, and we were nervous that they would come off before the plates and bolts were through the frame and in place. It would be GREAT if there were 6 wires included, one for each bolt.
2) There was only a vague reference to having to enlarge the holes in the frame to be large enough for the backing plates to fit through. While we were able to figure it out on our own, there is no clear indication that you would need to drill out the hole in the frame to make it large enough to pass the plate through.
3) Once the backing plates and the bolts were in place, there is nothing to keep them from being pushed back up into the frame when mounting the hitch. We made plastic retaining plates to hold the bolt and plate in place while we were mounting the hitch. This kept the hitch from “accidentally” pushing the bolt back up into the car frame.
4) The instructions said it would take a pro 30 minutes and a novice 1 hour. Ha! We found that very hard to believe. It took us a solid 2 hours to install the hitch given the challenges we ran into above.
I installed this receiver on our 2012 Ford Escape XLT 4x4. Everything lined up perfectly. There was no interference from the the exhaust hangers. The fish wires worked great. The hardware slipped in easily from the end of the frame rails. I think it took a whole two beers from setup to cleanup to leisurely install this hitch.
this product was as described and in excellent new condition when it arrived with in a week of ordering, no shipping charge. The hitch installed just as the instructions and the video outlined, using a floor jack I was able to install it by myself in less than an hour. looks great, solid and pretty.
Great product easy to install the video on the web page was a lot of help. Very fast processing and shipping I will buy from etrailer.com again.
Very nice fit. My only complaint was the thicker recommended spacer for above the exhaust caused the bolt to extend out at an angle and not far enough. I spent an extra hour trying to make this fit and then to remove it and install a standard spacer. This one hour job took me two hours. If I had another one to install it probably would only take me 30 - 45 minutes. I installed to use with a bike rack and possibly other cargo racks down the road.
Purchased for 2012 Escape XLT w/3.0 V-6. Installed it by myself today, which took a bit of planning. These are not a light weight product. Everything fit perfectly. My only suggestion for etrailer would be to cut the fish wires about 5 inches longer. They are just a tad too short to fish from the farthest bold position. I used a short piece of an old fish tape to extend mine, and everything went smoothly.
Very easy to do took less than 40 mins ( I did remove exhaust pipe from hanger for the install, just use some spray lube easy off, easy on) It was nice to have 2 bolt springs , one of mine got hung up & broke but having 2 in kit really helped.
I also removed the spare tire for the install was easy to do & made it easier to put on but not necessary.
I even used the box it came in to lay on the ground to do in my driveway, so easy to do without putting on a lift.
I installed it today. Not hard but you need patience. I didn't lift my Ford Escape, didn't loosen muffler or drilled holes bigger. Driver side was the hardest because the end of the chassi hole was a little tight but I pride it open enough that I could squeeze the screw in. Once I got all the screws in I put the hitch in place. It's a tight fit so once you get it up it will hold. I then began to pull the screws through and put the nuts on. Warning!! The 2 screws that go at the far end opposite the rear bumper leave off. Use that wire to leave it on the 2 end screws. Once you have it on than fish the 2 bottom screws. I didn't do this so as I was fitting the hitch on I pushed up the screw too far and it fell inside the chassis. I was able to fish it out but definitely avoidable.I bought the wire kit quick plug in as my Ford has the hitch wire already.
