It just 16 gauge wire, but the video explaining the light relay installation indicated the perfect amount to complete the routing and installation.

The wiring is still in place with no signs of wear.

  • Troubleshooting Power from Connector on Pickup but No Trailer Lights
If the connector on your pickup shows power for the lights when you test it then the issue should be on your trailer. You can verify this by connecting a different trailer to your pickup or by using a 12V battery to power the individual pins on your connector. Just ground the negative terminal and use a wire from the positive terminal to power the different pins. The most common issue with trailer lights that aren't working is a bad ground. Since none of your lights are working though...

  • Troubleshooting Trailer Lights that Work Only When Cinder Block is Placed in Back of Trailer
If your lights are working when you add weight to the back of your trailer you likely have a short. I would start off by checking the wiring directly under the location where you place the cinder block. If your grounds are securely connected to a clean, bare-metal surface then there is most likely some wires on the underside of your trailer that have a stronger connection when the block is in your trailer. Look for any places where the wiring is damaged or pinched and replace it with 16...

  • Troubleshooting Curt Custom Vehicle Wiring Harness Blowing Running Light Fuse
The reason the Curt Custom Vehicle Wiring Harness you purchased is blowing a running light fuse is there is a short somewhere on the running light circuit. I recommend thoroughly checking the brown wire on the connector back to the connectors on your 2006 Dodge Dakota looking for any spots where the wire is showing that could short, or for any other damaged sections of wire. Any damaged spots will need to be replaced by splicing in # 16-1-1. I included a link to a helpful article on...

  • Troubleshooting Radiator Fan With 12V Battery Where Wires Get Very Hot
The wires may not be the correct gauge. They should not have been hot with 12V power. The motor may be drawing too much power as well. If the motor isn't overheating, than replacing the wires should solve the problem. You can use # 16-1-1 or # 12-1-1 depending on the amperage needs of your motor and the length of wire needed. Longer distances requires thicker gauge wire for proper amperage.

  • Troubleshooting Utility Trailer Light Dim on Right Side
It sounds like the right side of your trailer may have a bad ground connection. I recommend visually inspecting your wires for missing insulation or fraying and then using a tester to see if you are getting the same voltage on each side of your trailer. If the voltage is the same, you most likely have a bad ground connection which is often found in the mounting of the lights themselves. You want a bare metal to metal connection free of corrosion or debris. You may also want to use some...

  • Troubleshooting Trailer Running Lights Not Working When Other Functions All Work
It is likely that there is a bad ground when only one function isn't working. Check your main ground connection on your trailer as well as the ground connection at your tail lights. The tail light ground can often be in the mounting hardware if it doesn't have a separate ground wire. Make sure the connection is bare metal to metal and free of corrosion or debris. You will also want to check your trailer connector to make sure that running light pin is free of corrosion and debris as...

  • Fixing Running Lights on Trailer Connected to 2016 Ram 1500
Fuse F29 is the first place to start troubleshooting on your 2016 Ram 1500. It is the blue 20 amp fuse specifically for your trailer running lights. If that fuse is in tact, then the next thing to do is put a circuit tester on your 10 o'clock pin of your bumper 7-way trailer connector. If you have power at your 7-way for the trailer lights, then clean your trailer connectors with some sand paper and plug in your trailer. Next, check the ground connection on your trailer. You will...

  • Troubleshooting No Running Lights Front or Rear on 2013 Jeep Wrangler
On your 2013 Jeep Wrangler the parking/running lights not working on your vehicle will not be a fuse box issue since we know other functions still work. I recommend first checking to make sure you have the daytime running lights turned on. Next check the M17 and M18 fuses in the Totally Integrated Power Module located under the hood of your Jeep. Use a circuit tester to determine if power is getting to either side of each fuse using a circuit tester like # 40376. You can use the probe...

First check the running light circuit on your 2017 Ram 3500 using a circuit tester like # 40376. This function is on the 11 o'clock pin of your 7-way as you can see in the attached photo. If you do not have power there, check your fuses as outlined in your owners manual. If you do have power at the running light pin, then you will want to check the ground connections on your trailer. You will have a ground connection at each tail light, so you will want to check that wire, or the...

  • Running Lights on Trailer Not Working, Vehicle 7-Way Tests Good
There is a possibility that the ground for the tail lights on your trailer is not sufficient for the running light circuit so I would start here as it is rather easy to do. However, if both sides of the trailer are not working and the other lights (stop/turn) are working then that leads me to believe you have a shorted wire. I recommend obtaining a circuit tester and testing the brown wire just behind the trailer side trailer connector while the running light circuit is active. If you don't...

The 60 inch blue wire of part # 20036 used to make the connection to the reverse light function is 16 gauge. Additional Primary Wiring can be purchased by the foot in 16-Gauge Black # 16-1-1 if needed. A video resource is included below should you want additional information.

  • Troubleshooting Trailer Running Lights Not Working But Trailer Connector Has Power
Since you mentioned you are getting power to the brown running light circuit wire, but the running lights are not turning on there is few a possibilities. The most common issue is a ground is bad. I recommend checking that the running lights have a ground wire connected to clean corrosion free metal. If they ground through the studs make sure they are attached directly to metal. If the trailer has a tilt bed or is aluminum you may need to run a jumper wire from each lights ground to the...

  • 7-Way Adapter for 2007 Toyota FJ Cruiser Towing Surge Brake Trailer
To convert your 4-way to a 7-way to tow your trailer with surge brakes you'd want the 7-way adapter part # 37185 which your 4-way would plug into. You'd need to run the purple wire to the reverse light circuit of your FJ Cruiser to activate the reverse lockout solenoid of your surge brake actuator. For wire you could use the # 16-1-1 which we sell by the foot.

Basically you'd need to mount it on the frame of the trailer in a location that allows the 7-way enough length to reach the front of the trailer. For wiring we have 10 gauge wire like part # 10-1-1 which you'd run for the ground, the 12 volt accessory, and the brake output. To run the wires for the lighting functions you could use the part # 16-4B-1 which we also sell by the foot. This a jacketed set...

  • How to Create a Better Ground for a Clearance Light on a Trailer
Since you have already determined that it is a ground issue (which is almost always the problem) I would try sanding down the area you are installing the clearance light on. A good ground will have a solid connection to a clean, bare metal surface. If the screws are loose (as you found) or the metal has some paint or debris on it there could be some issues. If that doesn't work you can also try using a ring terminal like part # DW05737-1 and some 16 Gauge Wire # 16-1-1 to create a better...

I recommend we start by testing the 4-Pole connector on the # 118381 harness. You can use a circuit tester, like # 40376, to test the pins on the connector for each function. This is easiest if you can have a buddy sit in the vehicle and signal the lights while you test for the functions at the connector. I have attached a video showing how to test a 4-Pole connector for you. If the connector doesn't test for the proper stop, turn, and taillight functions, then you will want to check...

Trailer wiring generally uses 16 gauge wire, part # 16-1-1. However, with a long trailer like yours you may want to go with a larger like 14 gauge # DW07550-1 or even 12 gauge # 12-1-1. Each size is sold by the foot. You will need to have the lights at the rear of the trailer of brakes and turn signals. Also since the trailer will be 10 feet wide you need clearance lights on each side.

  • Troubleshooting Trailer Wiring on 2004 Ford F-250 Super Duty
Because you are losing functions when you connect your trailer, it sounds like you either have problems at the connectors with dirt/corrosion or you have a bad ground wire. I recommend testing each function individually using a circuit tester like # PTW2993 to test your trailer connection on your vehicle when your trailer is not connected. If you have a brake controller you will need to use the manual override to test that function. If there is an issue, check your ground wire connection...

  • Wiring Diagram for Home Made Trailer

One solution to help wire everything together is to use a junction box with your trailer's 7-way connector, like # 277-000141. This way you can run all of your trailer's wires to the box instead of to the back of the connector. To wire you brakes you'll want to use 10 gauge wiring # 10-1-1. For the lights you can use 16 gauge, # 16-1-1. Both are sold by the foot. When looking into the back of...

  • Wiring a Truck Bed Camper Shell Brake Light on a 2007 Ford F-150
To wire a brake light only on a truck bed topper/camper shell you will need a dedicated brake light only circuit. Tow package wiring would not work because the brake light circuit and turn signal circuits are together. So you would either need to find a wire under the truck that is dedicated brake light only or you would need to tap into the CHMSL (center high mount stop lamp) circuit. Check the owners manual to see if the CHMSL is fused by itself or if the fuse handles other functions...

The owner's manual for your 2015 Ford Fiesta says that for automatic models, not manual models, of the vehicle the battery needs to be disconnected to flat tow it. I cannot recommend going against the manual so the battery should be disconnected on automatic models. This is because some things in the vehicle will be powered on when you have the vehicle set up for flat towing according to the steps in the manual. You can provide power to the vehicle battery via the running light circuit...
