Features:

  • Strap provides extra support for your hitch receiver when you use a hitch-mounted bike rack or cargo carrier
    • Limits torque placed on hitch receiver by heavy accessory
    • Evenly distributes weight to stabilize hitch accessory and prevent bouncing
  • Cam buckle design allows for quick connection and release
    • Attach one end to the bike rack and the other end to the vehicle
    • Pull strap through the cam buckle and towards front of the vehicle to increase tension for a secure fit

This strap is recommended for use with bike racks and other hitch-mounted accessories to avoid putting too much strain on your trailer hitch. Some Class I and Class II 1-1/4" hitches may require that you use a stabilizing strap to ensure that the hitch does not experience excessive torque while transporting your gear.

This simple strap has helped reduce most of the swaying and bouncing in our hitch mounted Thule bike rack. I like the little velcro loop to bundle up the excess length - it works great. My only complaint is that the strap rubs against my Subaru Outback near the top of the hatch and has marred the paint finish a little, but we have used it a few times for long trips between PA and ME, and maybe that's to be expected. That said, I would definitely buy it again!

I use use a Curt Hitch "Flat Carrier"
https://www.etrailer.com/Hitch-Cargo-Carrier/Curt/C18110.html
for
loads on my 2005 Prius.
Bought the recommended support strap and liked the way it took the up-down bounce stress off the hitch, but the carrier still wobbled left to right, rotating slightly within the hitch receiver. Bought a second strap and the two stabilized the load very nicely. I needed a light cord between the two straps at the top of the hatch door to encourage them not to slide off the corners of the door.

I am quite pleased with our flat carrier. We keep the loads low enough & centered enough to not block the brake lights and the license plate. Weve used it to carry bikes as well.

by:

The Cam buckle keeps the bike rack from bouncing, so I would assume (I know) that should put less stress on the bike rack over time.

by:

Purchased this strap as a backup support for the bike rack that I will be using with my new etrailer hitch.

by:

The strap helped to stabilize the bike rack .. Strong & sturdy .. If you get the bike rack & hitch spend the extra for this ... Worked great on my 2013 vw beetle convertible ..

It still works perfect .. very happy

by:

Outstanding product. The stitching and material are heavy duty. Looks great on my Honda Accord and Thule bike rack. Thanks!

Rating the best. Super good company to deal with.

Your install videos rock!
Great selection
of products, with lots of honest reviews.
Excellent support with domestically based agents.

by:

My purchase was an easy choice with advice I received from customer service. The hitch is working great no problems. You can't go wrong making your purchase from etrailer.

Product works great just like day 1. I look forward to many years of use when maintained properly.

by:

I love how this fits in the top of the hatch. Store my cargo carrier from rattling when either loaded or empty. Bought 2 because we transfer the carrier to another vehicle sometimes.

by:

We were very impressed with the quality of the Curt Trailer hitch we purchased, its price and how quickly it arrived.
We had the hitch installed by a very good local mechanic for a fraction of the cost quoted by our Honda dealer.
The hitch support strap that was recommended works perfectly with this hitch.
We highly recommend this hitch to anyone.

by:

Works great!

by:

This strap is easy to use and I appreciate the peace of mind I have while driving knowing there is extra support of my hitch mounted bike rack. The Velcro fastener makes it easy to bundle the strap’s “tail” so it doesn’t drag while driving.

by:

Install was very easy, instructions were clear.

Be sure to use WD-40 to loosen up the muffler attachments. That one step alone made this job easier than I expected.

This hitch is used to attach a goal post, so I can carry my kayaks on top.

Great customer service, the best.

by:

Box to hitch 1 minute.
2 ebikes and
ready to roll 10 minutes.
A whole new world has opened up. This is absolutely the easiest, most versatile rack ever. At 65, my days of putting a light bike on a roof rack are over. This will handle almost anything.
The service and attention to detail was amazing. The eTrailer team seems like friends at the local bike shop. BUY IT HERE!
Gotta go, mountains to ride.

by:

We used our new hitch thanks to etrailer.com !

The bike rake fit perfectly .. we used the support strap too!

Off we go!

by:

Feels much safer and stable with the st rap

by:

Can hold my five bikes easily

They
are hybrid trail bikes.

Have to check weight limit for 5th bike.

I bought two stabilizer straps just for piece of mind. They certainly won't hurt

by:

GreT service and timely delivery. Product meets my expectations.

by:

I've been using the hitch for my bike rack and it has been performing as expected. Absolutely no problems. A little harder to install than expected, but with a little help from friends it is still where it belongs.

by:

I've used etrailer.com before, and the service is excellent. The step-by-step video showing the receiver installation on my model year car was extremely helpful.

by:

simple and effective. Works as advertised. Actually one of the better stabilization straps on the market. the buckle is strong and has a durable non marking coating. I'd recommend buying 3 at a time (two to stabilize to an overkill level, and one backup because you know how life is)

Nikhil

5/25/2023

Continues to perform as intended

by:

Simple, easy to use, effective.

by:

Gives you that little extra stability.I like it.

by:

The product does exactly as advertised. And I had a quick question about installation and was given a quick and satisfactory answer from customer service when I called

by:

Just finished about a 300 mile round-trip and the strap definitely helps stabilize the hitch-mounted bike rack. The only issue was that the angle of the clip was too much for the hatch on my Golf GTI so I had to bend it a little to get it to fit.

Etrailer Expert

Katrina B.

4/3/2023

Bending the clips will cause the straps to potentially lose their capacity.

  • Does Curt or Draw-Tite Hitch Have Better Ground Clearance for 2020 Kia Soul
The Curt # C67FR does have better ground clearance than the Draw-Tite # DT25GR for your 2020 Kia Soul. The reason you have to make a cutout for the Draw-Tite and not the Curt is because Draw-Tite decided to add a plate between the crossbeam and the receiver whereas the Curt has the standard downtube (see attached). The Curt instructions do call out using the Support Strap # 18050 for all non-trailer loads but this is something they are in the process of eliminating from their instructions....

  • Recommended Hitch and Bike Rack for a 2006 Honda Accord
Yes, they'll work fine together! The Curt 2 Bike Platform Rack item # C18085 works with class I hitches like the Draw-Tite item # 24787. No, the use of the Curt Cam Buckle Stabilizing Strap for Hitch-Mounted Accessories item # 18050 is not required for use with Draw-Tite hitches just Curt ones. It wouldn't hurt but you're not required to for warranty reasons. The Draw-Tite Hitch item # 24787 is confirmed to fit both the sedan and coupe models of the 2006 Honda Accord.

  • What 2" Hitch do You Recommend for My 2019 Subaru Legacy?
For your 2019 Subaru Legacy, I recommend the etrailer Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Matte Black Finish - Class III - 2" # e99YR. This hitch comes with the easiest installation process out of any hitch we carry for your vehicle. It only takes about 1 hour and includes all of the mounting hardware required for installation. If you plan to use non-trailer loads such as bike racks or cargo carriers, you need to use stabilizing straps # 18050 with those accessories. If you do plan on...

  • Hitch and Platform Bike Rack Recommendations for 2015 VW Golf SEL
It's certainly not hopeless, we can get you though this! Let's begin with the hitch. Trailer hitches are classified according to their capacity. The smaller the vehicle, the lighter the capacity. Because your Golf is a compact car, it uses a Class I hitch which has the lowest capacity. For a hitch, I recommend the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C11412. Any trusted mechanic would be able to complete the installation for you. I've linked you to the install instructions, so you can print...

  • Trailer Hitch Recommendation for a 2011 Mazda 3 Sport Hatchback for Use with a Bike Rack
I will be happy to make some hitch recommendations for your 2011 Mazda 3 Sport hatchback. I recommend Draw-Tite trailer hitch # 24843. The reason I recommend it over the Curt option is because with Curt you would have to use stabilization strap # 18050 when using the hitch with your bike rack per the Curt warranty requirements. Draw-Tite does not have that requirement. While there are 1-1/4 to 2 inch adapters that would work there are a couple of problems. First, the use of an adapter...

  • Mounting Hole to Receiver Face on Curt Trailer Hitch # C12270 for a 2000 Subaru Outback Wagon
I do have a way that you can determine the clearance with Curt trailer hitch # C12270 installed. Take a look at the instructions I have linked for you. Find the mounting point on the vehicle for the forward most attachment point (towards the front of the vehicle). Measure from this mounting hole straight back towards the rear of the vehicle 18-1/4 inches. This is where the face of the receiver will be. If you measure from that point to the distance required to clear the rear bumper, you...

Only a Class I hitch, part # C11411, is offered for your 2015 Volkswagen Golf SportWagen. This Curt hitch fits the TDI models other than the R edition. The hitch offers a 1-1/4-inch receiver opening (like a Class II) and a 200-lb tongue weight (TW) capacity. Installation requires no drilling and mostly basic hand tools. The only special tool needed is a torque wrench like # ALL944001. In this Class I hitch you can use compatible Class I accessories like 2-bike racks and cargo carriers....

There are only 1-1/4 Class I hitches available for your 2010 Smart Fortwo. The 2 inch hitches are reserved for vehicles with higher towing capacities like trucks and SUVs. For more info check out the FAQ article I attached on hitch classifications. The only hitch I can recommend for your vehicle would be the Curt Hitch part # C11020 that you referenced. • Trailer Hitch & Wiring for 2014 Ford Edge
Both Draw-Tite and Curt hitches are good quality products. While one given hitch fit may favor one brand over the other in total they both offer excellent products. Curt hitches can sometimes have a nicer powder coat finish, and since they are made in the USA they do offer that appeal. Of the options available I suggest the Draw-Tite 2-inch Class III hitch # 75992 for its lower price and freedom from the Curt requirement of using a support strap with non-trailer loads like bike racks....

Yes, the Swagman XTC part # S64670 that you referenced will fit and work well in the Curt hitch part # C11383 that you have installed on your 2013 Mazda 3. This rack is designed to fit 1-1/4 inch hitches like this and we have found works very well in them. • Can a Hitch Adapter Be Used With the Thule Doubletrack To Increase Ground Clearance
You can use the Brophy Hitch Adapter # HT5R for your Thule Doubletrack. However there are a few things to keep in mind. When using a hitch adapter, the weight capacity of your trailer hitch will be decreased by 50 percent. It is likely that the trailer hitch on your 2014 Volkswagen Jetta is a Class I hitch. So if your hitch has a 200 pound weight capacity, with the adapter on it can only carry 100 pounds. Since the Doubletrack weighs approximately 46 pounds, this means the total weight...
