Video Transcript for Draw-Tite Chrome Hitch Ball Review

What's up everybody It's AJ with etrailer.com. Today, we're gonna be checking out this Draw-Tite "2-5/16" ball. With a weight capacity of 12,000 pounds. Now it also has a diameter down here of the ball of inch and a quarter. So, just make sure you get the right Ball Mount for it to go on. Let's check it out.

It's gonna be a solid steel construction, we also have Chrome plaiting around the outside. So it's great for those heavy duty instances, you don't have to worry about leaving it outside. Also has this nut and locknut included with it, so you don't need hardware. It comes with all the hardware you need to get it put onto your Ball Mount. Speaking about the Ball Mount, you wanna make sure you get a Ball Mount that can handle this weight.

So this is right for 12,000 pounds. You wanna to make sure that the Ball Mount does too, so this one is also 12,000 pounds. So that's good to know that you can run on that and you wanna always go with the lowest tow rating. So let's just say the hitch was rated for 10,000 pounds, then we default to 10,000 pounds. 'Cause we don't wanna max out the hitch.

If you're not sure of what kind of coupler you have on your trailer, it's usually listed on your trailer. You can see here it says "2-5/16" coupler or ball is what we need for this coupler. So that's how I knew which ball to go with this trailer. So when you're ready to attach your ball, there's two things that you wanna make sure. Is the ball size being "2-5/16", make sure that's right for your coupler.

And then make sure the diameter is correct for the shank or the Ball Mount you're gonna put it on. So, this one's gonna be an inch and a quarter of a diameter. So we know this is gonna fit this. Gets right in there, you drop that. Now it's got the included lock washer and the nut here. We're gonna get this tightened up by hand. Just get it started, until you get it as tight as you can. Then we'll come back with tools, and torque it down. So we got our tools and need a pretty big wrench for this. It's gonna go on here on the flat side of the base of the ball. That flat side's made so that wrench can go on there, when you go the torque it. And we got the socket at the bottom, and our torque bar. And that's what we're gonna lift up there and torque. And obviously here, it's pretty beefy. So, it's gonna be hard to do it this way. So there's a couple different things you can do. One of 'em is if you have a vice in your garage, you gonna flip this around, put the vice on this part and that'll hold that in place. And you can use your torque bar, and socket to tighten it down that way. We're using the hitch right here, just to hold in place. And since we have a shop, we have a bunch of different sockets and the torque bar. And the torque bars are sold separately, as well. You will need this to do the specific torque ratings that are in the instructions and they're pretty hefty. So you might have to rent one from an auto parts store, just to torque this down. But what we're gonna do to help us out with tools we have is flip it to the side. So that's gonna be easy to hold the wrench, and use the torque bar at the same time. Now this way, it's gonna make it much easier 'cause the wrench kind of just sits there like that. And then our torque bar will go on the other end. So I'm gonna hold the wrench with this hand, just to get it started. Now, if you have an extra set of hands might not be a bad idea to have somebody hold the other ranch. Just so you can focus on torquing down the other side. But right now these are the early stages, so we just need to get it started. Only thing left to do is lower it down and get it hooked up to our trailer. With the safety chains hooked up, we're ready to hit the road and get towing. It's a really good heavy duty ball. Just make sure you get the right heavy duty Ball Mount that goes with it. That way you can maximize that weight capacity. Well, I think that does it. Thanks for hanging out and I hope this helped..

Kimberly was extremely helpful and knowledgeable about the product I was interested in purchasing. She patiently answered all of my questions and followed to let me know my item had shipped. Actually came 2 days earlier than expected b/c I making preparations for a race which helped tremendously!!!

by:

Great product for a great price. Will be back but I don't think it will be for anyone replacements as these will last my lifetime!!!

by:

Perfect fit for the ball mount I bought this for. Dimensions are accurate.

by:

Great quality. Fit and finish excellen t.

by:

Excellent advise for proper product. Needed to clear my tailgate away from trailer jack so solution was offered to extend ball mount back 3 1/2”. Perfect solution.

by:

Works as intended

by:

We use this trailer ball to pull our 20' cargo trailer. We moved from northern Arizona to western Kansas with the trailer. Seven trips overall, and no problems with the hitch. Holding up great!

by:

Does the job, got a little wear on the top of the ball right away which might have been due to me having skimped on the hitch grease but it's held up after a dozen plus outings. Still, maybe a bit more resilience might be nice. Not afraid to get another given the price though.

by:

The products are great, but the packaging sucked. I ordered 2 trailer balls that were unpackaged so they rolled around in the box damaging the threads. My drop hitch was sticking out of the box

by:

etrailer is the best!

by:

They were very knowledgeable about products, pricing was good, and delivery was
quicker than expected. Peyton did a great job!

by:

Seems like a good product. Only aggravation was not being able to find a 1 7/8" socket or a torque wrench that went to 450lb. to mount it. Luckily my trailer dealer mounted it for me, though probably with an impact wrench.

Comments
keeping it greased, its worked fine and still has its chrome plating

I purchase a used trailer recently and have made several purchases from etrailer to include a Straight-Line Weight Distribution Hitch (RP 66084), 2 5/16 Ball (19286), RV Generator Plug (CAM 55333), Aqua Hose, sealing trim for roof and side seams etc...

All of the products have arrived on time and are of high quality. The trunnion bar holes on the RP 66084 were missed drilled so I called etrailer(Laser) and he shipped me out replacement bars which arrived sooner than expected along with a return label for the miss-drilled bars.

Products are quality, service is quality and inventory is exceptional.

It is a pleasure doing business with them.

My F150 had an OEM 4 pin trailer plug and hitch.
The 118242 - 7 pin connector with wiring harness is the ticket. The hardest part of the install was dropping the spare tire. The plugs connect directly to the factory plugs and the harness length is the correct length.
The 3035-P brake controller connector harness was just as easy. Plugs right in to the OEM plug next to the ECM connector and the other end into the brake controller.
The PK12711U-26 - 7 pin bracket and hardware kit fastens directly the OEM bracket that is on the hitch. My truck had an OEM 4 pin trailer towing set up with the hitch. The OEM hitch had the bracket welded on it to attach the 7 pin mounting bracket to it.
These kits make this install very easy and professional looking.
If I have one complaint, the hardware kit to attach the 7 pin connector bracket is set up to fasten the bracket directly to the bumper with 2 - self tapping screws provided in the kit. The kit also includes 4 #12 machine screws with toothed washer nuts to attached the 7 pin connector to the bracket. This is fine if your truck hitch doesn't have an attaching bracket welded to it. The kit should included in it 6 #12 machine screws and nuts along with the 2 self tapping screws. Since my OEM hitch actually had a bracket welded to it to attach the 7 pin bracket to it, I had to use two other #12 screws and nuts to attach the 7 pin bracket to the OEM bracket on the hitch. Not a big deal, just a thought.
It took me about 2 hours, start to finish to install the 7 pin connector, trailer controller, and add the two relays in the OEM relay/fuse box under the hood.
I highly recommend these kits.

Fits perfectly on the new hitch fast sh ipping

by:

With this hitch I now feel safe towing my 6k lb, 26' travel trailer with my 1500 pickup truck. Just finished a 2200 mile trip. Also I like the fact the new hitch puts the trailer a little further behind the truck because I can open my tailgate fully when hitched. Like another fellow, I had to drill out the hole for the spring bar cover pin.

by:

What awesome timing ! I was just looking up where I can post a review and here we are. I can't say enough how very very pleased my husband and I are. Great quality fast delivery i can't say enough. Thank you we will be ordering again from you !

Going to cut the threads off and use as part of my security/lock system on my car trailer.

The weight distribution hitch I purchased is outstanding. Quick shipping, easy to install, and excellent service and information at etrailer.com. Just used the hitch to go camping. What a difference it made in towing my camper. I also made several sharp turns both forward and in reverse with no problems. I highly recommend this product.

I needed a weight distribution system that would allow me to safely tow my 8,000# boat and trailer. James was very helpful suggesting the best rig for my application: surge brake compatible, able to be backed up while connected, and properly sized given my tongue weight. I also needed the pole tongue adapter. I was amazed that the parts arrived just two days later! I have done a pre-install check and all will fit beautifully. etrailer and James did an outstanding job from selection to delivery!

Weight Distribution hitch, & hitch ball.
It
is so easy to place orders, confirmation and tracking number sent as soon as item is shipped (very fast process), products arrive on time and in great shape. Easy to follow instructions, trailer is set up and ready to roll. Pulling a 2016 Rockwood Mini Lite, with a 2012 Ford F150

The RB2 hitch and hitch ball arrived in a matter of days after I placed the order. I was very impressed with the customer service follow up from the time I placed the order until I received the order. The excellent flow of information kept me well informed.
I installed the hitch per the instructions, and it was relatively easy to follow the instructions and get the intended results. I spent about an hour doing the installation, and it could have been faster, but I wanted to go slow and make sure I understood each step. This was the first time I had installed a weight distributing hitch, so it was important to be careful. Very happy with the hitch, and happy with the entire process of ordering from etrailer. Will do business again.

  • Where to Find the Hitch Ball Size for a Trailer Coupler
That's not info we have available to us since the manufacturers don't list it. It's also not uncommon for trailer owners to change couplers which can sometimes change the ball size. Most likely your trailer has a 2 inch ball or a 2-5/16 inch ball like the # 19286 you referenced. Your best option would be to contact the seller and ask what size ball the coupler has listed on it as it will be stamped there.
