My first time ordering from trailer, and I will definitely go back to them in the future. George J let me know when my shipment was on the way. Carol C. let me know it had been delivered. It came three days early! Their customer service has been outstanding and I am grateful. I needed to replace some parts in my electric brakes on my 17' Casita SD, which had failed state inspection in Virginia. The dealer wanted $400 to replace the magnets. I went with a right and left wheel assembly kit made by Dexter, the company that made my axle. New everything! Not messing around. The good: Just four nuts/ bolts! The bad: two of those nuts on each assembly required more than wrenches to remove them. Be prepared! Have a plan! The two behind the swing arm can be hard to reach with a socket. And two of those broke free from the brake assembly plate, so they just spin. I had to grind the head of the studs off with an angle grinder, after removing the brake shoes. See photo. After removal challenges, assembly was easy. Just four bolts and two wires! I reassembled with an anti seize compound on the threaded studs, so that when I have to do it again, hopefully the nut's are not frozen on the studs. Etrailer's service was awesome and their prices were the best as well. I'm a believer and will go with them again. Excellent transaction and support! Oh yeah... my packages arrived in new boxes and in perfect, ready to install condition. No issues with my red at all. Give them a try!

I purchased a brake assembly and hub kit for my travel trailer. I had a 100% positive experience with etrailer. Very helpful in placing my order.
All parts were correct and fit perfectly.
The only minor problems I encountered were as follows. The printed instructions included with the hubs were copies, that had been recopied about 3000 times. Practically illegible. One of the brake assemblies arrived without the small plastic clip that secures the wires for the brake magnet to the backing plate. Both of these small problems were "in the box" from Dexter and not the fault of etrailer
I will have no hesitation dealing with etrailer in the future.

I am completely satisfied with my partspurchase 1 year later.

by:

The brake parts were all correct for my application and installation was straightforward with minimal tools needed. I did take the extra step of soldering the wire connections because that is the best way to do it IMO.

Stephen at etrailer was very helpful. He made sure I had all the right parts for my application. and they were on their way very quickly.

I will say that I tried to use my local dealer first because I like to support local businesses, but unfortunately, they were having trouble finding the right parts for my trailer. When we did find them, they were 50% more expensive for the exact same parts that etrailer supplied. I would also have had to drive 80 miles round trip to get them.

The reason for the 4-star rating is because of shipping/packing. The parts were heavy in large boxes with no packing material to hold them in place. Two of the hub sets were out of their boxes and there was a crushed grease cap. So, better packing to keep things in place in the boxes or use a smaller box would be nice.

I attached a few pics of before and after also tmy very worn hubs. You can see that eh armature is worn down to the studs and the magnets are starting to show the coils. It was time. Also a short video or timelapse that I titled, Trailer Brakes in 18 seconds

Time to replace original brakes on Jayco travel trailer. Bought two fully assembled genuine Dexter trailer brake kits. One kit for each axle. Purchase price was excellent and received fully assembled as described. Packaging was great with no damage. Free shipping! The brake assemblies looked good with no issues. Definitely new! Installed with no issues. No missing hardware. Their website was easy to use. Will buy from them again. As a side note, really appreciate the videos they provide on their website to help as required.

We hadn’t changed anything on our 16ft trailer in 18 yrs. While the design had changed a bit all the new equipment fit like the original pieces.

by:

These are awful. The first set I installed kept on catching and sticking on, despite constantly adjusting them. The second set was lightly damaged in shipping (etrailer customer support is top notch and sent a replacement set out right away) but I installed them after the first set refused to work right. They're better but they're still the grabbiest trailer brakes I've ever towed and make it hard to get a decent setting on the brake controller for good braking that doesn't snap your head each time you step on the pedal but provides decent braking performance. Save your money and buy generic brakes, instead.

I wondered if you had also gone through the process of what we call bedding the brakes? This process allows the brake shoes and the magnet to seat to the drum. What you would do is drive the trailer out into an open area, like an empty parking lot. Get up to around 40 MPH and apply the manual override on your brake controller. Make sure the brake controller is set high enough where it will fully engage the trailer brakes [usually the middle setting will be just fine]. Do not hit the brake pedal during this time, as you want to slow down your vehicle and trailer with only the trailer brakes. You will most likely have to do this about 20 to 30 times to properly seat the brakes. When you feel like your brakes are properly seated, pull over and check for signs that you are done: a bit of smoke is normal and your brakes should be very hot [brakes should read 350-400 degrees with a temperature gun]. If you don't see these signs, then keep repeating the process until your brakes are properly seated.

@JennyN I didn't follow the procedure for bedding the brakes that you outline but I did definitely get the first set of brakes ripping hot on a couple occasions before I realized they were sticking on. They were brand new brakes and drums so it doesn't seem like they ought to take so much work to bed. I was borrowing the trailer from a friend (and did the brakes as part of the 'rental' aspect of it) and have given the trailer back in the meantime. I'll let him know about the bedding procedure and maybe that will improve some of the grabiness he also noticed.

The parts that I received were very well described. They installed perfectly with no problems.

by:

Very pleased with the Dexter 10" electric brakes that I put on my car hauler. They were very easy to install. As others have said, the most difficult part was removing the nuts that retained the old brakes. I soaked them with penetrating oil prior to starting the work, yet still had to cut two off. There was plenty of wire to connect to the trailer wiring - better too long, than too short! And love that they are made in the USA.

by:

Easy to install and worked better than expected!!

by:

e trailer made everything easy for me. I ordered the dexter electric brake kit for my camper on Wednesday evening, and by Friday morning I had received everything that I ordered. The dexter brake kit is USA made. I will be ordering from etrailer.com again. Extremely happy.

by:

Products are great and service was excellent. The packaging for the hubs was too light. By the time they got to me some of the boxes had holes and a couple parts were missing.. Etrailer very promptly sent me replacement parts.

by:

Great purchasing experience; from live chat where questions were quickly answered, to fast delivery of correct parts.

by:

Bought an older trailer that needed work. These brake kits worked great. They came with everything needed to replace the old ones. Super easy install. 4 nuts on the back connect 2 wires install the drum adjust and done.

by:

These units are solid as a rock. High quality, easy to install and work perfectly.

The brake assemblies were a perfect fit with the bearing race surfaces of my existing spindle. They electric brakes engage and disengage properly

by:

Old brakes completely wore out and no longer functionable. New brakes installed easy and I cleaned up old drums and reused. Needed to use trailer for a 1000 mile trip to pick up a truck cab and brakes worked good going out and great coming home after wearing in to old drums. Have worked super ever since. I often haul heavy loads and need good functional brakes like these.

Brake assemblies and drums arrived in perfect condition. Packed very well. It seems that way to many items from other online retailers come delivered damaged. UPS is hard on packages. etrailer.com also has superb customer service. Prices are very good. Thanks etrailer.co. Trailer lights were packed well to.

by:

Great communication regarding the brake assemblies. And, the shipping was extremely fast, two days. I anticipated a Monday or Tuesday delivery.
I am very pleased with Etrailer’s level of professionalism.

by:

Delivered exactly as described. All hardware included. Parts assembled. No guessing at all.

by:

Everything arrived in only a couple of days. All items were wrapped and boxed to prevent any damage in the shipping process. All items were as described and great quality. Thanks etrailer!

etrailer customer service for returns and their products as a whole are third rate at best. Every product arrives damaged from terrible packaging and handling by etrailer. Customer service sometimes responds and their return policy is garbage at best. buy elsewhere

  • Why Is There A Clicking Noise Coming From My Electric Drum Brake Assemblies
If you're hearing clicking it's most likely just the brake controller testing for connection to the brake magnet in the assemblies # 23-26-27 by sending a pulse and energizing the magnets, causing them to cling to the hub for a second. It's normal for certain brake controllers and wouldn't be a cause for worry.
