Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite's Tested Tough program provides testing standards far superior to those outlined by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), the go-to source for engineering professionals.

Each Draw-Tite trailer hitch receiver undergoes extensive fatigue testing and static testing with the ball mount that is either supplied or recommended for use with that particular hitch, thus ensuring results that are applicable to real life use. Fatigue testing is also conducted on hitches rated for use with weight-distribution systems.

In addition, Draw-Tite performs static testing on a simulated automobile, as opposed to the rigid fixture used for SAE testing, resulting in a more true-to-life scenario. Technical Support

The hitch is pretty much what I was looking for. We're only using it to mount a carrier to haul two bicycles around with no intention of asking it to any more than that. In that regard the hitch receiver is exactly what we wanted. I think it could have been boxed better as the hitch had punched thru the box in a couple of places and the box was way too big for the product so it bounced around during shipping, I suspect. The interesting part was that the instructions that came with the hitch were for a Chevy Impala! The instructions and drawings had nothing to do with mounting the hitch to a Mazda 3 but the good thing is that etrailer has excellent photos showing how the hitch is attached to the car and I used those. I was working at night with a single flashlight but it only took me about 20-25 minutes to get everything where it's supposed to go! It fit perfectly to the car and is rock solid. The bike rack tends to wobble a bit but with it secured in place we know it's not going to go anywhere while on the road. I've included a picture of the whole setup with bikes.

The main thing is that I'm quite pleased with how it all turned out. We got what we wanted and installation was simple. When we get another car we will order another receiver hitch from etrailer.

Still using it! Nothings come loose and Id still recommend it. The only issue I have with the hitch is that the two looped bars I guess to attach a chain from a towed trailer can get in the way when I or remove a cotter pin for the bike rack. But I can work around that and get the job done. I thought about cutting them off but when we eventually sell the car the next owner might want that feature.

2012 Mazda 3

The shipment timing was reasonable, the price is good, the quality of the metal is good. Can’t give 5 stars because it was quickly placed in cardboard box without properly secured/wrapped. Part of it broke through the box, and some paint is chipped on the sides and I’m worried about rust.

I will definitely have our customer service team reach out to you. I recommend touching up the affected areas with a rust resistant paint which you will then have on hand for regular hitch maintenance. When the hitches are installed on the vehicle over time they will be hit with road debris which will cause nicks and scratches over time.

I believe this is the third hitch I’ve purchased from Each time I’ve been completely satisfied with the product and the service. Below are pictures of the hitch on my 2010 Mazda 3 hatchback.

2010 Mazda 3

Owned for over a year. Installed on mazdaspeed 3. Consistently haul sailboat, utility trailer and bike racks. Held up great and has even taken a few blows from dips in the road. I would recommend it.

It took me longer to gather my tools than install this hitch. Took me less than 10 minutes. I didn't even need the wire to fish the bolts through the frame on my Mazda3. With the rectangular washer attached, I held on to the washer and was able to put the bolt in the right spot easily.

My only complaint is that the hitch arrived with several spots where the paint was rubbed off and showing bare metal. It would be so easy for etrailer to take a few seconds to look over the hitch before throwing it in a box and shipping it out. I had to wait another week for a can of touchup paint. That's the only reason I knocked down the rating from excellent.

2013 Mazda 3

This hitch is awesome. The whole experience was great. Hitch shipped super fast and installation took me about 15 minutes. Instructions were clear and simple to understand. Sturdy construction and the connection points on the car are solid. Will definitely be coming back for any other hitch or bike carrier needs I have in the future. Thanks guys!

2013 Mazda 3

Staff worked with me to get the right parts and got everything out quickly. Packaging was a little lacking, it was essentially loose in a box and managed to punch through the side, bending the frame and chipping most of the paint off of the edges. After hammering it back into shape and repainting the bare metal to avoid rust it fit like a glove and the instructions were easy to follow.

-Staff Support

-Poor packaging caused it to bend and chip, increasing install time

Sorry to hear about the damage. Covering any bare metal with anti-corrosive paint is the way to go with rust prevention. Here are more tips in this help article:

As described. Really easy to install. I backed my car up on ramps to have some extra room. Very discreet looking as well. You can only see the hitch receiver. You can not se the cross bar unless you are low to he ground.

2010 Mazda 3

Excellent for a bike rack, it took me about 30 minutes to install it by myself with out a ramp to lift the car,i just put it on the drive way and it was enough room to work with.

works well after 1yr. Still on my car. Too bad I don't use it as frequent as I would like.

Simple to install, simple to use. Get a buddy to help with the install. Much easier then trying to lift it on your own upside down on the floor.

A great hitch. I bought it to support a beefy, tray style, bike rack. It works perfectly for that. It was simple to install myself.

Extremely easy to install. I did it alone (no help) in about 20 minutes. I can finally pull my trailer with my car! Thanks etrailer!

The hitch arrived quick and packaged properly. Attaching it to the car was relatively easy and I'm happy with the purchase from etrailer.

2010 Mazda 3

Finish and fit were perfect. No drilling or welding required. Perfect for a bike rack. YES IT DOES FIT THE MAZDASPEED 3

2010 Mazda 3

The hitch fits my 2010 Mazdaspeed3 perfectly and installed in about 20 minutes with basic hand tools. I can also confirm that it fits with a Corksport cat-back exhaust no problem.

2012 Mazda 3

Product arrived as described! It fit my 2012 Mazdaspeed 3 perfectly can't wait to use it! Installed it myself took me about 15 minutes with no Jack.. I recommend this product now let's see how it holds up.

2013 Mazda 3

I have not used the hitch yet, even though I installed it two months ago. Life gets in the way. But the install went relatively smoothly. I read where this can be done by yourself by using bricks to hold one side up while you secure the other, but me, I got a helper and that was still a bit of a challenge. The instructions are as good as can be expected I suppose, but the there is no substitute for the video that etrailer creates for your vehicle. Whenever you get 'stuck' on something, you just go back to the video and it made it perfectly clear which screw to use and how to thread the screw to the right location. Without the video, I would have become frustrated. The only minor issue I had was needing to buy a deep well socket for two of the bolts. The bolts are too long. I guess the extra length comes in handy for initially trying to put the nut on the bolt, but after that, just a bit too long. As stated, I have not used the hitch yet, but have no reason to believe I will have any issues. Very happy with my purchase - very good support team at e-trailer.

A year later, Ive had no issues and no regrets buying this hitch. I would definitely use etrailer on future purchases.

2010 Mazda 3

This trailer hitch was a breeze to instal. It literally took me 20 minutes to instal! The fit was perfect. Couldn't be more pleased.

2012 Mazda 3

At this point I am not happy with this hitch. Claims to have a 200 pound tongue load but I can actually see and measure deflection of the reciever when placed under only a 120 pound load. This measurement is compaired to the body and not the ground, etc. This is a real safety issue for me. I am currently having Etrailer contact Draw Tite to show validation of testing on this model (Mazda 3 2012 Hatchback). I question if it is actually a sub class 1 (ie tongue load rating of 125 lbs). I do not recomend this product until these safety concerns are answered. If the hitch is not torquing around the 1.25" draw bar then the frame connection points chosen by draw tite are sub standard location points.

I hope that I do not have to follow behind your trailer. The hitch is rated for up to 200 Lbs tongue weight but not your car.

2013 Mazda 3

Great hitch. Shipped out next day, arrived in 2-3 days, install was straight forward. Make sure you have a deep socket (11/16") because the vertical bolt by the muffler was too tight to get a wrench at. Otherwise, installation was straight-forward and exactly as advertised on the website and video. I would highly recommend this hitch.

Its been great! Not a single issue since installation. Highly recommend you guys to my friends.
Scott S - 09/14/2016

Took me about an hour to install. had to run to Lowes and grab a deeper 11/16ths socket. Other than that a piece of cake!

Thanks for reaching out. Thing has worked great for me. The car is pretty low so sometimes it scrapes going in or out of bad driveways, and I should probably get under there and tighten it up, but yeah, super satisfied with the purchase.

2013 MazdaSpeed 3

Mounted the hitch on 2013 Mazdaspeed3. Install took a total of maybe 30 minutes and without any trouble. Perfect for my bike rack. (I don't like the roof mounted, or strap on ones). Thanks

I have hatchback mazda 3 2013,I think the new bike rack I bought is 2 of a square part.would that work with this 1 14 receiver ???

  • Will 2-Bike Platform Rack Work With Class l Hitch On 2011 Mazda 3
The Draw-Tite # 24843 trailer hitch is a confirmed fit for your 2011 Mazda 3. This is a Class l trailer hitch and it has a 1-1/4 inch receiver opening. One thing to be concerned with when using any hitch accessory with a trailer hitch is the clearance at the back of your vehicle. For the Draw-Tite hitch, the distance form the center of the hitch pin hole to the back of the rear bumper is 5-1/2 inches.

  • Which Hitch is Recommended for 2012 Mazda 3 Hatchback
For your 2012 Mazda 3 Hatchback the Draw Tite Hitch part # 24843 fits regardless of the taillight style so it would be what we recommend. The taillight style matters when picking out trailer wiring harnesses which is tied to this fitguide so that's why you have the different hitch options based on that as well.

I do have a solution for you, however the Draw-Tite # 24843 will not fit a 2010 Mazda 3 Sedan. The hitch to fit your Mazda 3 Sedan is the Draw-Tite # 24842. #24842 is the same hitch as the one you are inquiring about, it's just made specifically for the sedan due to the differences in the rear fascia and its bolting pattern. Which, is the main reason # 24843 will fit the Speed 3 and hatchback models but not the sedan.

If there is no where to attach the stabilization strap # 18050 for use with the Curt hitch # 11383 on your 2011 Mazda 3, 5-Door then you may be interested in a different hitch like # 24843 from Draw-Tite. It does not require a strap. The Draw-Tite trailer hitch will fit models with or without LED tail lights but will not fit MazdaSpeed models. The other option is to try to hook the strap off to the side of the rear hatch rather than right at the top so you avoid the spoiler.
