Castle Rock Radials

Castle Rock Tread Close-Up

Unlike standard trailer tire tread, which has solid, continuous ribs, the tread on these Castle Rock radials has ribs with breaks. These breaks allow water to run off to the sides. The Castle Rock tread also has sipes. Siping is a process in which thin grooves (or sipes) are cut into the rubber of the tire. The grooves channel water away from the tread so that the tire makes better contact with the road. Both of these features greatly improve traction during wet, snowy, or icy conditions.

Castle Rock radials are constructed with double steel belts and double nylon cords. A protective layer of nylon is wrapped around the steel belts to help prevent tread separation.

Radial Tires vs. Bias Tires

Radial tire vs bias tire graphic

Radial ply tires are designed for trailers that are towed on the highway. The cords on a radial tire are positioned at a 90-degree angle to the direction of travel so that they lay across the width of the tire from wheel lip to wheel lip. This construction prevents the cords from rubbing against one another when the tire flexes, unlike the cords on a bias ply tire. As a result, radial tires have less rolling resistance and heat buildup, which leads to a longer tread life and improved steering at higher speeds.

Had a blowout while driving my enclosed trailer and this tire is the Perfect replacement tire

by:

Arrived early and in good conditions.

by:

I bought this tire to replace exactly the one that was on the trailer. I've found different manufacturers tires are not exactly the same size even though the numbers match. I had one tire on my dump trailer locking up when I applied the brakes. It was a different manufacturer and when comparing it was actually about a 1/2" smaller height wise. This is the exact tire that the rest of the tires on my trailer are and it has been working great. It is just a tire. Not to much t report on.

by:

Very efficient and prompt service. Easy to place order

Matched others tires perfectly.
Very
quick delivery.

by:

etrailer was the only place I could find to order a tire that matched the other three tires on my RV. Ordering was easy and the tire was delivered when they said it would be. The tire was delivered in a cardboard box with handles making it easy to move around. If I ever need another tire I would definitely use etrailer.com again.

by:

Thank you. Very fast service!

by:

I had a blowout on my way home from Florida back to Texas on my travel trailer. Half way home and was glad had a spare. When I got back I called the local dealership and they referred me to etrailer.com because they couldn’t get it in stock from their supplier. Looked up on internet and found the exact match.
Ordered on Friday and arrived on Wednesday, even with a 3 day holiday. Easy process to order. They had in stock.
Happy with order.

by:

Received excellent service! Needed to get my travel trailer tire replaced in order to go on trip soon. Did not expect to get shipment so quick. Really appreciated it.

by:

My review is not going to be based on the tire itself due to I ordered this it to replace the tire I blew. This review is going to be on etrailer.
This is the 2nd time I have ordered a product with etrailer. They are very professional and very knowledgeable about the products that they sell. They keep you informed about item being shipped. I will keep ordering from them.

by:

I called around and could no one had this in stock but could order it with no idea when it would arrive. The dealer I bought the camper from suggested going to etrailer.com and they not only had it but sent it the same day and it show up 2days later. You can't beat that! I have bought other things from etrailer.com and always great to work with.

Worst tires ever!!!! Many blow outs and wear problems. Broken belts in new tires. These tires have destroyed many a fender well!!!

by:

I rate 5 stars for the following reasons: (a) etrailer had the best price for my trailer tires, (b) the order was delivered by UPS in 3 days for free, and (c) I was kept informed by email of the progress of my order.

by:

I needed a new tire for my travel trailer and retailer provided several choices. The ordering process was very easy and the tire was delivered in less than a week. I will definitely use etrailer again.

by:

It was the exact same tire I needed due to a blow out. It arrived quickly, in perfect condition. I have ordered multiple times from trailer, all products as advertised. Will recommend them, anytime.

by:

Worst tire I have ever bought ever one has been a total blow out.

  • Is 10 PSI Increase Normal After Inflating Trailer Tire to Max PSI When Cold and Then Travelling
What you described is perfectly okay. Trailer tires are designed to be inflated to their max psi when cold and any pressure change that occurs from driving as long as the speed and weigh ratings aren't exceeded is perfectly normal. Also the changes you mentioned are very common.

  • Tire Recommendation for Size 225/75-15 for Trailer
Let me give it to you straight Eric...we don't carry the Carlisle tires so I can't in good faith recommend them to you as we don't have any direct experience with them. From what I can find on them online they see to be a pretty standard trailer tire where some report good results and others say they aren't reliable. The best tire we have in the size 225/75R15 would be the Castle Rock part # 274-000029 which has a really nice tread pattern, a higher Load Range, and comes with a roadside...

  • Correct Tire Pressure Needed For a Castle Rock ST225/75R15 Tire on 2021 Starcraft Super Lite 281BH
As your Castle Rock ST225/75R15 shows 80psi cold that is the pressure that you want to have for your 2021 Starcraft Super Lite 281BH. It sounds like you may have the Load Range E version of the Castle Rock ST225/75R15 Radial Trailer Tire # 274-000029 as our load range D only requires 65psi cold. Be sure you are checking and filling the tires when they are cold as the air pressure in the tires will increase as they are driven and become warm. This is normal for tires to be filled when cold.

  • Replacement Tire For A 7.00-15LT Tire
The reason you tire looks small is because it isn't mounted to the wheel and inflated. The closest comparable match to your 7.00-15LT tires is going to be a 225/75R15 like the Castle Rock ST225/75R15 Radial Trailer Tire - Load Range D # 274-000029. It's going to an inch shorter in overall diameter.

  • How Warm Do Castle Rock ST 226 225/75R15 Tires Get?
I checked with Castle Rock and the Castle Rock ST 226 225/75R15 item # 274-000029 you have should be 50 degrees warmer than the air temperature after being on the highway for 30 minutes. Tire experts generally consider 195 degrees as the maximum tire temperature, as past that the temperature will start impacting tire life. Past 250 degrees will the tire will start losing strength, and will wear even quicker.

  • Does Tire Weight Rating Double Since the Same Tire Will be on Both Sides of the Axle
Yes, for a single axle trailer you will add the weight rating of both tires for your total tire weight rating. So for the Load Range D Castle Rock ST225/75R15 Radial Trailer Tire # 274-000029 you will take the individual rating of 2,540 lbs at 65 psi and that increases to 5,080 lbs. Please note that you are always limited by your lowest rated component. So if you have a 3,500 lb axle then you're still limited to 3,500 lbs even though these tires are rated for 5,080 lbs together.

In general, the higher the load range and capacity the higher the ply rating will be, so if you are using 4-ply tires and have 15 inch wheels, it sounds like you may not have a tire with the correct load capacity so in your case I strongly recommend going to a trailer tire with a higher ply rating, and a higher quality tire.
