Video Transcript for Review of Goal Zero Portable Chargers - 200 Watt Solar Panels - 287-32409

Michael: Hi there. I'm Michael, with etrailer.com. Today, we're going to take a quick look at the Goal Zero Boulder 200 briefcase solar panel. This solar panel set is going to have two of the Goal Zero 100 watt monocrystalline solar panels. It's going to connect those two together. So, it's going to be very easy to transport.

So it's going to be great for, maybe if you're camping off-grid or if you're out tailgating, you want to wait to capture that solar energy and use it to power up your electronic devices, this is a nice set to consider. This will work with any of the Goal Zero power packs or generators. On the backside here, we do have our eight-millimeter connector. This connector is going to connect to any of those Goal Zero power packs or generators. You might need an adapter for some of them, but most of them will connect just with this eight-millimeter connector. This is going to give us up to 200 Watts of power, maximum.

It's going to provide 18 to 22 volts and up to seven amps. You can see, we have the integrated kickstands on both panels. That's going to allow the panels to be free-standing, so we don't have to attach them to another structure, so we can easily transport them. And it's also going to allow them to recline at a nice angle so that they capture more sunlight and are more effective that way. These are designed to be used temporarily or permanently, so, you could mount them in a permanent location if you wanted, on the top of your RV or something like that, so that they're always there when you need them. But because of that, they are built very rugged.

So this is a nice strong tempered glass here. So, you're not going to have to worry about rain or anything like that. They are waterproof, the panels themselves. You do want to make sure that all your connection points are protected from any water if they're going to be left out in the rain. But we also have a nice black aluminum frame here, so that's going to resist rust and corrosion.

They've also included these corner supports, so as we are moving it around, and we don't have to worry about fitting that aluminum frame on anything, and we've got a little bit of extra support on the edges there. When we went to fold it up, when we're ready to pack up at the end of our trip, you can see, we do have two hinges here that hold the two panels together. Those are nice, strong hinges to support our panels. And on the other side, we got a latch at the top and the latch at the bottom that allow us to hold the panels together. And then, we've got this nice carry handle so that we can pick up the panels and carry it with us. Now, this is about 42 pounds. So it's definitely carriable but not something that you'd want to hike long distances with, but it will be very easy if you're just hitting it in and out of your camper or the back of your vehicle, and setting it up nearby, and very easy to move around. They do include a canvas bag.If you're going to be transporting it, you can use this to help protect it. I don't know that I would necessarily use the canvas bag very much, myself, just because it is just canvas. It might take a little bit to fit the panels in there, but it is a nice option to have, that just zips up around the handle so that you have the handle always connected to the solar panels themselves. When we have it folded up like this, it is right about 40 inches tall, by 26 and 3 quarters of an inch wide. And it's only about three and a half inches deep. So, it shouldn't take up much room to store it when you have it folded up. When we have it unfolded, it's going to, again, be 40 inches tall. And then we're going to essentially double our width to 53 and a half inches wide. And then because it will only be as thick as one of the panels, it's only going to be one and three-quarters of an inch deep. So, you will need a little bit of space, probably about five feet of room, for the width. And you might as well have about five feet for the depth to just make sure that you've got plenty of room for everything. This does come with a one year warranty. And I think this is going to be a great option if you're wanting to have a great way to collect solar energy, use it with your Goal Zero Yeti solar chargers, just to make sure that you have electricity when you need it. So, that's going to complete our look for today. Again, I'm Michael with etrailer.com, thanks for watching.

  • Will Goal Zero Boulder 200 Solar Panel # 287-32409 Fit Zamp Connector on 2018 Forest River
A zamp solar panel socket is basically a standard two pin style socket that Goal Zero Boulder 200 Briefcase Solar Panel # 287-32409 could be ran to easily but you'd need to come up with a male zamp connector so that you could then wire to the panel and plug into your 2018 Forest River Sunseeker.

  • Can the Goal Zero Boulder 200 W Solar Charger be Connected to a Furrion Connector
It is possible to connect the Goal Zero Boulder 200 Briefcase Solar Panel # 287-32409 to your 2018 Forest River Surveyor Travel Trailer. I spoke to a contact and he said you would need a 20 amp Charge Controller to regulate the solar input to the battery. He also said you would need a Furrion plug with bare wire negative and positive wires to connect to the solar panel. You will not be able to run the refrigerator or other appliances, it is used to charge your battery.

  • Portable Solar Panel Kit Recommendation for 2018 Retro Trailer Solar Inlet
Thanks for the photo! The Goal Zero Boulder 200 Briefcase Solar Panel # 287-32409 uses a specialized connector that is different from what you have pictures but we have the Go Power Portable Solar Panel with Digital Solar Controller - 200 Watt Solar Panel # 34282610 that comes with an adapter to fit that inlet. A lot of the newer solar panel systems are from Go Power so odds are your trailer is setup with this same brand. This is a plus because this portable kit uses a PWM charger which...

  • What Soloar Power Panel Do I Need for a 12-Volt Trolling Motor Running Between 13-54 Amps?
I went ahead and called my contact at Goal Zero. He calculated that a 12volt trolling motor running at 54 amps would be a wattage of 648. For this, I recommend the Goal Zero Boulder 200 Briefcase Solar Panel # 287-32409. If you are in need of a power station, I recommend the Goal Zero Yeti 1500X Lithium Portable Power Station - 120 Volt # GZ64FR.
