Installation of Tekonsha Brake Controller Adapter

This adapter plugs into the 6-pin connector on your vehicle's built-in brake control wiring harness. Older models will have the harness located underneath the dash, to the left of the steering column, taped to another harness near the emergency brake pedal. Newer models have the harness under the dash, above the gas pedal.

To install your electric brake controller you need to connect the wiring of the controller to your vehicle. Certain manufacturers offer pre-wired options, typically known as tow packages, wherein these wires are run for you from the dash to the trailer connector on the back of your vehicle. Often, a brake controller wiring harness is included with your tow package. This harness plugs into a port beneath your dash and connects to the four wires of the brake controller. If, however, you have a brake controller with a plug in place of the four loose wires, you can use the Tekonsha adapter.

This adapter requires no hardwiring. It is designed to plug directly into your electric brake controller for the simplest installation possible. Because there are no wires to connect, installation is not permanent. You can unplug and remove your brake controller at any time and securely stow it away.

2008 Nissan Titan

I purchased the 3050-P quick connect wire harness for the ease of installation.
My 2008 Nissan Titan has the big tow package and I needed an electric brake system.
All I had to do was remove two phillips head screws and the lower dash panel pulls off. Locate the factory brake harness which is taped up at the emergency brake and attach the two together. I routed the harness to the right side of the lower dash because I'm right handed but, there is enough wire to move it to other areas within reason.
I also purchased the pod Pro Series 80500 which serves 1 or 2 axel brake systems. I mounted it to my lower dash on the right side within reach and it plugs right into the wire harness.
I have not had chance to use the new system yet but, am confident that etrailer has sold me a system that will work for me.

Perfect fit.

No hassles with install.

Best
part was Etrailer rep. knew exactly which part I needed on phone and sent me to website reference for further proof of correct part.

Nissan prewired the truck to receive the controller which wiring comes with a simple plug in connection.

All you do is order matching plug from Etrailer which comes with the four color coded leads that match the techonsia controller.

Attach the leads, plug it in, Mount the controller and you’re done!

Excellent service and product.

It’s been a year and as a follow up to previous review I would just add that the unit is working great. This is a testament to the Prodigy unit. When I hooked up a different trailer than my utility trailer which I had been using the controller indicator showed no connection, though it was physically connected. This told me there was a fault in the trailer wiring as it was still indicating good connection with utility trailer. After checking for poor ground on trailer with fault I then inspected the wires to brakes snd found one chewed right into by a squirrel. Reattached and controller indicated a good connection and I was good to go. This would have been a bigger problem with a controller that did not give connection and other feedback info. Also this controller is 5 years old on second vehicle.

2015 Nissan Xterra

It was easy to use this short wiring harness to connect a Tekonsha Prodigy P3 brake controller to the factory installed under-dash connector on our new 2015 Xterra. ALL 2015 Xterras have that under-dash connector, regardless of trim level or model. Previous years may also, just look for the white 6-conductor connector that is taped to a wire bundle under the dash above the right side of the driver footwell (see my photo). The cable was just the right length to make the connection to the brake controller mounted to the plastic panel just up from the hood release tab (see the other photo). Because the brackets supplied with the controller would have placed the controller about an inch from the dash surface, creating a knee-banger situation, I instead use some industrial quality 3M dual-lock fastener (like velcro on steroids) to mount the controller. The controller is securely mounted right up against the dash panel, but is still is removable, if needed.
If you also need a rear 7-way connector harness and the relays that all plug into the factory installed connectors, I highly recommend #118266. It provides everything you will need except for the bracket to mount the 7-way connector to the bottom lip of the rear bumper, see #TM76474.

Excellent quality of materials, fit perfectly fine on our 2018 Infiniti QX-60. Just make sure to take the cap off from the break connector in order to fit the plug and play wire harness. Cap is attached.

Thanks,

I have a 2016 Nissan Frontier with the factory towing package. Etrailer.com could not confirm that the wiring adapter works with my vehicle.

The sales rep I spoke to at etrailer.com was super patient and accommodating. I bought the product not 100% sure if it would fit.

It fits! Super easy install. Plugged one end into the harness under the dash and the other end into the Tekonsha brake controller. Under 1 minute install!

Thank you etrailer for a great buying experience!

Seems it was tailor-made for our Frontier. The ease of installation is only surpassed by a leading name in brake controllers.

2017 Nissan Titan

I ordered this with the # 90195 Tekonsha P3 Trailer Brake Controller. This adaptor is perfect, no cutting into wires or using wire taps, just plug and play, that's the way I like doing things looks more like factory install. worked out great for me on my Nissan 2017 Titan. way to go

by:

My original order was filled incorrectly. I called and they sent the correct product immediately. Customer service is top notch! Product received fit my truck perfectly.

I am still very much satisfied with my Tekonsha brake system and harness. It has continued to work flawlessly and has prevented an accident on more than one occasion. I’m glad I spent the little bit extra considering the ease of installation and continued reliability!

by:
2011 Nissan Frontier

The brake control harness I purchased from etrailer was exactly what I need and was very easy to install; especially with their product video showing step-by-step installation process. The harness works great with my Tekonsha Primus IQ brake control for my 2011 Nissan Frontier. Great product, great process and delivery came in less than a week.

by:

Easy install, video was helpful.

by:

This one worked great. I had previously bought one from another online retailer (exact same part) and for some reason it would not hold the connection with the electric brake controller. It would lose power, basically turn off when on the road. A call to Tekonsha was no help what so ever!

2013 Nissan Frontier

All items arrived sooner than expected and well packaged and protected. Brake controller and wire harness were perfect fits and easily installed. Installed controller on driver side kick plate under dash. Easy to reach and use/adjust but doesn’t hang under the dash or get in the way at all. The extended tow mirrors were easy to set up and adjust and fit my truck well in spite of being “universal “ fit. Not sure if the mirrors will provide the benefits I grope for as have not yet had the opportunity to use them while towing.

by:
2012 Nissan Titan

This brake controller is awesome! SIMPLE to install. I recommend buying the OEM wiring harness for your vehicle. The wiring harness that came with my truck (2012 Titan) was not as good as the aftermarket one I purchased with this controller.

I can't help but add that ETrailer has been GREAT to work with. I got my product extremely fast. Ordering was simple and the follow up to make sure I was satisfied was a nice touch. Great job!

by:

Hard to adjust. Had tech at rv place adjust still grabby. Should have got more modern controller

by:

Well at first when trying to install it, I was attempting to plug it into the wrong harness and it wouldn't fit. Needless to say I was quite upset with etrailer for sending me the wrong harness. I however attempted to locate the white harness plug vs the brown several more times over a course of three days and finally located it plugged it in and low and behold I got trailer brakes. The unit is very easy to set up once you get the hang of it. I'm constantly adjusting the power as I hit the brakes because I'm towing a 10,000 lb trailer and sometimes the power is too much and it jerks the entire truck. There are two adjustable settings power and gain. Once the gain is set there is no reason to keep adjusting it. Once this unit is installed and calibrated it works great. Simply plug it into the factory harness located under the dash, mount it and calibrate it and you are ready to go! The most difficult thing was mounting it, there's not much room for the two screws so it takes a little of fudging to get them tightened to the lower kick panel under the steering wheel.

One wire loom to plug in, what could be easier.

by:
2017 Nissan Armada

I had a little difficulty making sure that this was the correct adapter for my 2017 Nissan Armada, but it is. They are the same connector as 2015.

I also had trouble locating the factory pre-wiring and tgere was nothing in my Nissan owners manual that I could find. If you have a 2017 Armada the pre-wiring is on the right side of the steering column, above the accelerator (see pic). From what I understand, on the previous generation vehicles, the pre-wiring was on the left side near the e-brake.

As far as the product itself, it works, fit properly, and the wiring is solid.

Janet was very helpful in answering my questions and helping me select the correct trailer brake controler for my 2007 Nissan Frontier. Didn't need to cut and crimp wires, it was all plug and play. I needed it ASAP and got it in two days. It's good to have customer service in the U.S. and not have to struggle with foreign accents. Thanks etrailer!

Considering that when you jiggled the wires it temporarily fixed the problem could mean that there is just a loose connection somewhere. It could be in the harness that connects the Prodigy to your 2005 Nissan Armada, or in the port it plugs into. You could try a new adapter wiring harness, # 3050-P, instead of a whole new brake controller.
