Video Transcript for Buyers Products Class 2 Trailer Safety Chain Review

Hi, everyone. Aiden, here with etrailer.com. Today, we're gonna be taking a look at and showing you how to install these safety chains from Buyers Products, with quick links. Now you're gonna have a link diameter of 9/32". And like I said, these do have the quick links on the end. Our set up right here, these chains are a little bit short.

They reach but barely. You're gonna have 48 inches of total length from end to end. So, just keep that in mind. For our application, we would probably just want to go up a size. As you can see in our application it gets pretty darn close to not fitting.

So, I'd probably go for a longer pair personally, and some with some bigger of these quick links because it's a tight fit around our safety chain loop. So, just keep that in mind when you're checking these out, pick up the right size. Now these do have a 5,000 pound weight capacity. So just be sure in the event of an accident, these are up to spec to pull your trailer. Just in case something bad happens.

Now these do have a solid steel construction with a zinc coating. That is gonna help it resist some of the rust and corrosion over time. But just as the nature with these chains being out in the elements and just seeing a lot of heavy use they will eventually rest and corrode. If you do need to replace them, we've got plenty of options here on our site. And that replacement process is super simple.

So, let's check that out now. To get started with our installation, we're gonna remove our old safety chain first. Now there's not really anything wrong with these ones but we wanted to show you the process. For this trailer today, we're actually going to have a cotter pin on the end here. So, we'll just take some needle nose pliers, we can bend those ends back together here. It's a little hard for me to see over the edge here, but we can get those bent back straight so we can pull it through and free up the chain. So once we've got that out, we can pull this pin out and then free up the safety chain on the other side too. With the old chain removed, we can go ahead and install the new one. The way we've got it set up right now, we've got the two links on the end that we'll attach to our safety chain loops. I'm just gonna kind of find where it's even right there because the way we're attaching is just through these points here. So I'll just get it lined up and I'll drop in one of these pins through the link out the other side. I'll just repeat that for this side over here. And then we can secure it with our cotter pins. We'll just pop that through there. We can bend the ends out here to keep it in place. Once everything is connected, we can take our quick links wrap them around our safety chain loops. It's a bit of a tight fit for our vehicle here, but it does fit. And we can run those down and hit the road. And that'll do it for our look at these Buyers Products Safety Chains with quick links. Thanks for watching..

Exactly as advertised. Arrived promptly. Great communication - order confirmation, when shipped, expected arrival. Appropriate packaging. All as it should be - thanks!
Only 1 point - I almost ordered the wrong wheel size. The hole to adjacent hole distance is easy to get wrong if you try to eyeball centers- measuring edge to edge would be more reliable. But a little error here steers you to the wrong size. My existing wheel had a raised feature at the bolt circle diameter that I measured to get back on track.

Arrived exactly as described. Quick link connectors allow easy take-up of extra chain length and attaching to existing chains/welded-on-to-trailer-links a breeze. I used these longer chains to replace the original, shorter chains on my 12' utility trailer after I bought a new truck and the old chains couldn't reach the new truck.

Safety chains or safety cables should be rated for the full loaded trailer weight. Most of the safety chains we have that are rated for your 6300-lb loaded trailer weight will have clevis or S hook connectors that are larger than 5/16-inch. Titan 5K Chain part # TCTSCG30-736-04X1 measures 36-inches from the edge of the end link to the edge of the hook, but the hook's diameter is 3/8-inches which is slightly larger than the 5/16-inch so it sounds like this would not work for you.
